Truth Talks

English, Religion, 1 season, 29 episodes, 11 hours, 9 minutes
Freedom is found in the truth. From a young age, the Lord has placed the desire to know truth on my heart. Through this, He has expanded my view of what freedom in Christ looks like in our lives. We often regard our feelings as truth and therefore give them authority in our lives. There is a problem with that though because our emotions often lie to us and they have no authority; God's word has authority. In this podcast, we look at everything through the lens of biblical truth, so that we may be a generation that truly walks in the freedom given to us through Christ.

Trusting in Truth

There are some truths in the Bible that can be more difficult than others. Sometimes we have to wrestle with those truths. I've been there and thankfully we serve a God who meets us in our doubt and questioning. However, what the Lord revealed to me is that ultimately, it doesn't matter how I feel about God's truth, it matters that I submit to it. This isn't harsh, nor is it an invalidation of how I feel, It's realizing that I'm not God and I don't know best. If I refuse to live under the care of His truth, no matter how I feel or think about it, I'm choosing to step outside of His beautiful design of abundant life, given to us through Christ.  Verses:  Proverbs 28:26 Proverbs 3:5 Job 38 2 Timothy 3:16

How to Fight the Lies

Our emotions often lie to us about who God is and about who we are in Christ, but instead of looking to the truth of scripture we just believe the lies. I mean aren’t we exhausted? Are we not drained from carrying the weight of lies? I’m an emotional person and at times it feels as if my emotions overwhelm me. It feels as though at times I can’t shut the lies out. It’s discouraging. Good News? There is another way to live. Want to know something the enemy doesn’t want you to know? You are not helpless against believing the lies. Through Jesus we have been freed up to choose to believe truth, to choose to live life abundantly. I can believe that God is good despite my circumstances because truth isn’t dependent upon how I feel. I can believe that God loves me and sees me as clean through His son because, despite what I feel, I know what truth (scripture) says. I don’t trust in my feelings, I trust in the truth of Christ. Yes, easier said than done, but that abundant life Christ calls us to? It’s not a fairytale, a lie, or something unattainable. Jesus has made it available to me & you, we’re just missing it. Verses: 2 Corinthians 5:17 2 Corinthians 10:5 Galatians 5:1 Galatians 5:13 Romans 6:6-7 Romans 12:2 John 10:10 Ephesians 6:17 1 TImothy 4:7 Matthew 4 Jeremiah 17:9 1 Corinthians 13 Hebrews 4:12  *Ecclesiastes 4:4* (not Ezekiel)

The Problem with Your Feelings

This episode is something the Lord has really been laying on my heart. What we discuss in this episode is laying the ground work to a problem that I think is one of the number one things keeping us from experiencing the freedom that God has called us to and I think it's a weapon the enemy uses against us. What's worse? We don't even realize it's happening.  Verses:  Jeremiah 17:9 Mark 7:21-22 Proverbs 28:26 Genesis 3: 1-6 John 10:10

The Bible Isn't About You

How we read the Bible matters. If we read the Bible as though it’s about us and that it’s primary purpose it to teach us how to live more like Jesus, or to tell us how much God loves us, we’re reading it wrong. Yes, those are reasons for the Bible, but they aren’t primary reason. The Bible exists to glorify God by revealing to us the character and nature of God. This is important because it changes the way we should approach reading scripture - tune into this episode to find out how! Here is the scripture used in the podcast: John 14:15, James 1:22, James 4:14, 1 Peter 5:7, Ruth 1:16-17, Matthew 26:41, Matthew 12:38-42 , Hebrews 3:1-6

In this episode we discuss different aspects of modesty, along with how Jesus is the greatest example of it.  Verses used in this episode:  - 1 Corinthians 10:31 -1 Corinthians 6:19-20 -1 Corinthians 8  - Romans 14:13 - Phillipians 2:3-8 -Ezekiel 36:26

Righteous Anger

Righteous anger for man is a manmade idea. No where in the bible does it call christians to righteous anger. We are not entitled to anger, of any kind, ever. Sounds like a crazy idea right? Well, so does the call to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Jesus kind of has a habit of flipping the script. In this episode we discuss points like, "Didn't Jesus get angry?" and "Shouldn't we be angry at sin?". Tune in to this episode to hear the answers to these questions and more!  Here are the verses for this episode:  Romans 12:19 Romans 2:1 Matthew 7:1-5 Proverbs 29:11 Ecclesiates 7:9 Ephesians 4:26-31 Colossians 3:8 Matthew 5:22 James 1:19-21 Mark 3:1-5 Matthew 21:12-13 Matthew 23:37-39 Romans 12:9 Micah 6:8 John 17:20-23 Other Resources:  Unoffendable by Brant Hansen

Is Self-love Biblical? (with Kate McCrory)

Hot take: self-love isn't biblical, in fact, it's quite the opposite. We don't need self-love.... we need self-less love, not only is that what we are called to, but without the self-less love of Jesus there would be no cross. Mark 10:25 says "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Jesus tells us to follow Him. This is the Jesus we are to follow, a humbled servant, who looked to other's best interests instead of His own.  Music Credits: Music from Uppbeat (free for Creators!): License code: TFRG0DQQYSHWVQ5H

Forgiving people can be hard, especially when it's exactly the opposite of what we most of the time feel like doing. So why does God call us to forgive in the first place? Is it just because it's the right thing to do, or could it be that the ability to forgive is actually a gift that Jesus has given to us? Listen to hear how the command to forgive actually reveals a little more of God's goodness towards us.
