It might sound like the distant future, but the use of AI in transport is already a reality.  A British barrister at Temple Garden Chambers, Alex Glassbrook works at the intersection of law and technology of the infrastructure that moves us from A to B: transport. His practice includes the law of advanced, automated and electric vehicles, serious personal injury cases, motor insurance law (including counter-fraud work) and high-value vehicle damages claims. In this episode, he explains how he got into technology law, the regulation of driverless cars and the current obstacles around regulation. Luigi Cantisani, is a Junior Lawyer at Futura Law Firm where he is assisting a number of technology startups. His role also encompasses working alongside teams, assisting with legal engineering as part of Jur.  Luigi is also taking his Ph.D. in Law at the University of Warwick, researching "Blockchain-based Platforms and the Rise of Peer-To-Peer Transactions: Impacts on International Contracts and Trade". After meeting during their studies, John and Guglielmo created Rita, a tool to practically address the data portability issue. Under GDPR and other data protection laws, individuals have a right to request the download of their data in an accessible format. Both John and Guglielmo explain more, but typically this process is very drawn out, with companies, such as Facebook, requiring multiple steps to actually download your data. Rita changes that, allowing you to view and request your data from companies with which it has been shared with. This week we spoke to polyglot and multi-talented Karol Valencia, Legal Services Designer, and Business Innovation Strategist at Lawcus-LPM and Legal Project Leader at eID. Karol's design work looks at law school education systems: she is the coordinator for Peru of the ILSA Alliance, while also a digital transformation lecturer at Wenex Formación by Adams. Karol also works alongside a number of legal tech startups and is a recent EWOLT winner. Intrigued by blockchain and cryptocurrencies but confused how they work or are regulated?  Erika Federis is part of legal counsel at digital payments platform Wirex. While training as a lawyer she was introduced to the area of blockchain and cryptocurrencies during her training contract. Erika Ly operates at the nexus of law, technology and society. Her work focuses on the design and regulation of artificial intelligence and she is passionate about interdisciplinary innovation. Her current positions include being Secretary of the Australian Society for Computers and the Law and a Director at The Legal Forecast. Prior to this, Erika started her career as a 'Technolegal' at Gilbert + Tobin, a leading Australian commercial law firm and worked at one of Australia's first legal technology startups, LawPath. But what if this connection was a fleeting glance?  This episode is with Natalia Krapiva, Human Rights lawyer and Technology Legal Counsel from Access Now. Access Now has the mission of improving society's digital rights through awareness, advocacy and campaigning. While internet shutdowns are an increasingly common phenomenon, the reduction of the internet to 20% of normal capacity in early August in Belarus is propelling more discussion around the topic.  In this episode we discussed what is an internet shutdown, what risks it poses to society and how the shutdown was facilitated in Belarus. After, we look closer at the work Natalia has recently been involved in: litigating in the ECOWAS Togo court, successfully proving that an internet blackout infringes the right to freedom of expression. Hannele Korhonen is a Finnish legal designer who runs her own legal consultancy, Villa Verto. With over 20 years of Contract Law experience, Hannele has the aim of changing the world for the better, improving how lawyers work with contracts and how society interacts with the Law.
