152: Creating Business Rituals to Strengthen Your Community

Mental triggers essentially affect all of us. Founded from psychological and behavioral economics, they are psychological drivers that influence our behavior and the decisions that we make. They can take on many different forms, but join me today as I focus particularly on one that has become entwined with my own business - rituals! Rituals in business can create a profound bond between you and your audience, turning your interactions into something more meaningful and expected. These aren't just habits; they’re things that your audience would notice if they went missing. For instance, I always have a specific way of signing off at the end of this podcast that has become a signature of mine. If I skipped it, you would notice! Similarly, in my membership, content is consistently delivered at 11 a.m. every Friday. If that changed, it would undoubtedly be missed. I invite you to think about the rituals that you can establish within your own business, whether it be an annual event like a year-end review, a monthly Q&A, or even something as simple as a consistent sign-off. Rituals help build a sense of community and connection. I also touch upon how I use a fantastic tool called Searchie to keep my content organized and searchable, which has been an absolute game-changer for my workflow! I am also thrilled to announce my new bi-weekly newsletters tailored for surface pattern designers and creative entrepreneurs. These newsletters, Secrets of the Studio and Beneath the Surface, are packed with resources and insights to fuel your creativity and business growth. I hope that you will listen in as we explore the power of rituals and how they can transform your business. I promise you that you will walk away with actionable ideas to deepen your audience connection! 📒 Episode Notes, Links, & Resources 📒 https://www.professionalcreative.com/blog/152 📝 Read the Transcript 📝 Connect with Bonnie: ▸ ONLINE | http://bonniechristine.com ▸ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/bonniechristine ▸ START SIMPLE IN SURFACE DESIGN | FREE MINI CLASS | https://www.bonniechristine.com/startsimple ▸ FREE SURFACE DESIGN GUIDE | https://www.bonniechristine.com/guide

148: Mini Series: Teach What You Know Part 2 - Knowing Your Niche

If you've ever thought about adding teaching to your repertoire, you're in the right place. Today, we're diving into how to narrow down the topics you can teach, a crucial step if you're looking to diversify your revenue streams. Often, the decision to start teaching comes before you're entirely sure what you'll teach. It's an exciting journey, and once you take the plunge, you'll likely find that you love sharing your knowledge with others. Teaching can be incredibly rewarding, but it all starts with ideation. This episode will guide you through a vision-storming session with five essential questions to help you pinpoint exactly what you should teach. We'll explore what makes your craft unique, those informal moments where you naturally fall into a teaching role, and what people are most curious about when they ask you about your work. Firstly, consider what is unique about what you want to teach. Think about the distinctive aspects of your craft—those elements that set your work apart. Reflect on your informal teaching moments; these are the times when you've naturally found yourself explaining or demonstrating your process to others. These moments can provide valuable insights into what you're naturally inclined to teach. Additionally, research market needs and gaps. While it's unlikely you'll find something completely untapped, teaching from your unique perspective can fill a niche and offer something fresh. Pause and assess your personal passion. Ideating can be exhilarating, but slow down to ensure the topic you choose is something you're deeply passionate about. Once you start teaching, it may become a significant part of your career, so it's vital to choose a subject you can talk about for a long time without losing interest. And last but definitely not least, consider how you can make this uniquely you. Brainstorm the specific ways you approach your craft and create a mind map of your process. This personal touch will not only make your teaching more engaging but also distinguish your offerings from others in the market. By the end of this episode, I hope you'll have a clearer vision of what you can teach and how to transform your passion into a fulfilling new aspect of your creative business.  📒 Episode Notes, Links, & Resources 📒 https://www.professionalcreative.com/blog/148 📝 Read the Transcript 📝 Connect with Bonnie: ▸ ONLINE | http://bonniechristine.com ▸ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/bonniechristine ▸ START SIMPLE IN SURFACE DESIGN | FREE MINI CLASS | https://www.bonniechristine.com/startsimple ▸ FREE SURFACE DESIGN GUIDE | https://www.bonniechristine.com/guide

147: Mini Series: Teach What You Know Part 1 - Overcoming the Naysayers

Welcome to today's episode! If you're a creative, you've likely mastered your craft through countless hours of dedication, experimentation, and practice. But have you ever considered sharing that expertise with others? Today, we're diving into why I believe that as creatives, we should also embrace the role of educators. Teaching what we know isn't just about imparting skills; it's about empowering others, giving back to our community, and enriching our own professional journeys. Many creatives hesitate when it comes to teaching. There's a common fear of being judged or not being taken seriously. The term "selling out" gets thrown around, implying that turning to education somehow tarnishes the purity of our work. But let's shift that mindset. Sharing our knowledge is not about diluting our craft; it's about spreading the passion and expertise we've cultivated. It's our responsibility to contribute to the growth of our industry and uplift fellow creatives. The benefits of teaching your craft are profound and in this episode, you’ll learn ten reasons why you should consider teaching what you know. I encourage you to take the leap. The rewards, both personal and professional, are well worth it.  📒 Episode Notes, Links, & Resources 📒 https://www.professionalcreative.com/blog/147 📝 Read the Transcript 📝 Connect with Bonnie: ▸ ONLINE | http://bonniechristine.com ▸ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/bonniechristine ▸ START SIMPLE IN SURFACE DESIGN | FREE MINI CLASS | https://www.bonniechristine.com/startsimple ▸ FREE SURFACE DESIGN GUIDE | https://www.bonniechristine.com/guide

146: The Power of Coaching

Today, I peel back the curtain to share what's been working for my own business. For me, investing in coaching has been a game-changer. If you’re looking to level up your business, understanding the power of coaching can be monumental. This year, I’ve invested more in my education and development than ever before, and it’s been one of the most powerful ways to break through barriers and reach new heights. In this episode, I’ll share my personal journey of investing in coaching and how it has transformed my professional and personal life. I’ve discovered that many barriers we face in business are more about our thoughts and mindset than external obstacles. My investment this year hasn’t just been in a mastermind, although I love being part of one. Instead, it’s been in a coaching program, something I’ve never been involved in until now. We’ll dive into the differences between a mastermind and a group coaching program, and how each serves a unique purpose. We’ll also explore the distinctions between group coaching and one-on-one coaching, and the benefits each can bring. You’ll learn why having a coach who also has a coach is crucial, and how this continuous cycle of growth and support can propel you forward. We’ll discuss the common things that get in the way of our success and how coaching can help us overcome these hurdles. I’ll also share how my coaching experiences have shaped the development of my own coaching program, highlighting the importance of understanding your reasons for seeking a coaching program and how to choose the right coach for you. Whether you’re new to coaching or considering it as your next step, this episode is packed with insights to help you harness the power of coaching for your business. 📒 Episode Notes, Links, & Resources 📒 https://www.professionalcreative.com/blog/146 📝 Read the Transcript 📝 Connect with Bonnie: ▸ ONLINE | http://bonniechristine.com ▸ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/bonniechristine ▸ START SIMPLE IN SURFACE DESIGN | FREE MINI CLASS | https://www.bonniechristine.com/startsimple ▸ FREE SURFACE DESIGN GUIDE | https://www.bonniechristine.com/guide

Hey there, welcome back to another episode! Today, we're tackling a crucial topic that's often overlooked: delegating tasks clearly. You see, delegation isn't just about passing off tasks to your team or contractors—it's a skill that applies to every aspect of your life. 135: Design Your Life: Finding Freedom in Time, Location, and Finances

We hear it all the time: “Build a business so that you have freedom.” You know, that elusive concept we're all chasing after as we build our businesses and craft our lives. But what does freedom really mean? And how do we go about designing a life that gives us the freedoms we want? Well, buckle up because we're about to explore it all in this episode. There are three types of freedom that most entrepreneurs crave: having the time to do what you love, the flexibility to work from anywhere, and the financial stability to support your dreams. But hey, freedom isn't a one-size-fits-all kind of thing. It looks different for everyone, and that's okay! At the end of it all, what do you want to be able to say about your life and what would you describe as a life well spent? That’s really what freedom is to me.  It’s important to chase after your hopes and dreams, but don’t do it haphazardly. Chase dreams with purpose and intention. But in order to do this, you have to get really clear on what those long-term goals are and it's important to be really specific. You can build these freedoms into your business just like I have. So listen on to learn more about how these freedoms can change your business and your life and ways you can start focusing on achieving them. 📒 Episode Notes, Links, & Resources 📒 https://www.professionalcreative.com/blog/135 📝 Read the Transcript 📝 Connect with Bonnie: ▸ ONLINE | http://bonniechristine.com ▸ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/bonniechristine ▸ START SIMPLE IN SURFACE DESIGN | FREE MINI CLASS | https://www.bonniechristine.com/startsimple ▸ FREE SURFACE DESIGN GUIDE | https://www.bonniechristine.com/guide

In this episode, you’ll learn about the ways I created revenue during this time and all about the insane and huge decisions I made during this phase. But more importantly, you’ll hear all about the mindset and philosophies I had to adopt during this phase and what it really means to be confident. After The Confident, we head into Bonnie 6.0 and then where I am today as a result of these important and formative phases. What a ride it has been! Join me for this final part for the discussion about building resilience around vulnerability, how to step into a visionary role, and learn all the things I really wish I had known in my journey as an entrepreneur. Lisa Jacobs is a New Year fanatic and she leads the charge as we check in on our 2024 goals. 119: AI vs. Artist - Where Do We Stand?

Welcome to today's episode titled "AI vs. Artists," where we explore the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence in the world of art and design. As AI continues to advance, many liken its impact to the transformative influence of the internet itself. Yes, artificial intelligence can generate art, but it's crucial to recognize that it complements rather than replaces human creativity. It can aid your work, quicken your work, but it doesn’t replace your work. There’s an intersection between AI and creativity, and it is clear that human connection and emotion remain irreplaceable components of art. Despite AI's ability to generate visually stunning pieces, recent studies show that people vastly prefer human-generated art. Why? Every time there is a major technological breakthrough, people feel uncomfortable and uncertain about the future. But usually, these breakthroughs create new opportunities. Let’s reframe the fear mindset and shift to abundance thinking and see how we can allow this tool to assist us rather than replace us. 📒 Episode Notes, Links, & Resources 📒 https://www.professionalcreative.com/blog/119 📝 Read the Transcript 📝 Connect with Bonnie: ▸ ONLINE | http://bonniechristine.com ▸ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/bonniechristine ▸ START SIMPLE IN SURFACE DESIGN | FREE MINI CLASS | https://www.bonniechristine.com/startsimple ▸ FREE SURFACE DESIGN GUIDE | https://www.bonniechristine.com/guide

115: Think Like a Successful Creative

We talk about and hear about growth mindset a lot these days. But what we don’t hear enough about is how a successful creative thinks! We can’t change the way we think if we don’t know what to shift to. So today, we’re talking about what it looks like to think like a successful creative. It’s about more than just positive thinking; it’s about challenging those doubts and questions that we all have and choosing empowering beliefs instead. I’ve been there myself. I have realized that every turning point in my career was a direct result of a mindset shift. And that’s the good news. We can make a shift! With a little bit of intention, we can change the way we think. In this episode, learn the common limiting beliefs of creatives and how these beliefs hamper our creative output and success. You’ll also hear about ways we can overcome these limiting beliefs through embracing a new mindset. When we shift from dreaming to doing, remember that the journey is 1,000 miles, but it starts with a single step. Take a moment to answer these questions: Identify any negative self-talk. What negative phrases do you find yourself telling yourself and how might they affect your confidence and creativity? Challenge your assumptions. What assumptions are you making about your own abilities or the creative industry as a whole that might not be true? Revisit past experiences. Are there any past experiences that have shaped your current mindset?  Future fears. What fears about the future are holding you back? Are these fears based on facts or assumptions? Reality vs. Expectations. How does your expectation of perfection or success differ from the reality of the creative process? 📒 Episode Notes, Links, & Resources 📒 https://www.professionalcreative.com/blog/115 📝 Read the Transcript 📝 Connect with Bonnie: ▸ ONLINE | http://bonniechristine.com ▸ INSTAGRAM | https://instagram.com/bonniechristine ▸ START SIMPLE IN SURFACE DESIGN | FREE MINI CLASS | https://www.bonniechristine.com/startsimple ▸ FREE SURFACE DESIGN GUIDE | https://www.bonniechristine.com/guide 🫶🏼🫶🏼Quick Disclosure: This post includes some affiliate links which means that if you click the link to purchase something on this page, it won't cost you more but I may receive a commission for sharing this with you.
