7 Cognitive Biases You Were Never Taught

Renowned psychologist Daniel Kahneman said, "The confidence people have in their beliefs is not a measure of the quality of evidence but of the coherence of the story that the mind has managed to construct." The tools shaping our reality, encompassing experiences, hopes, desires, and fears, simultaneously hinder us from perceiving an objective reality. How To Focus On What You Can Control

Tom Brady reshaped the narrative of possibility in the world of football. Growing up in New England, I witnessed the rise of Brady from his humble beginnings to becoming the unparalleled legend he is today. Brady's story didn't begin with championships and accolades. In his early years at Michigan, he faced challenges, riding the bench and battling self-doubt. Yet, a pivotal moment with his coach and a sports psychologist ignited a profound shift in his mindset. The lesson was simple: focus on what you can control. In this episode, I delve into two key lessons from Brady's remarkable career and how they can guide us to concentrate on the controllable aspects of our lives. The Human Brain Paradox

Our brain functions as an incredibly powerful supercomputer, capable of remarkable feats. Yet, it possesses a limitation: it can only entertain a single thought at any given time. This phenomenon introduces the concept of the "Thinking Cost" — every moment spent pondering one idea eliminates countless other potential thoughts, each carrying its own Opportunity Cost. Toxic individuals further clutter our minds, monopolizing our mental processing. In this episode, I discuss the impact of these singular thoughts and two strategies to combat this clutter. Unlocking Your Best Sleep and Focus

We often underestimate the importance of quality rest, spending around 2,920 hours annually in slumber. While we recognize its value, achieving high-quality sleep remains elusive for many. Simultaneously, we are awake for roughly 6,205 hours each year, predominantly working, and often struggle to maintain focus and productivity. The answer to these intertwined challenges lies in reinstalling our natural brain functions with high-quality supplements that feed our brain the precursor nutrients needed for natural hormone production. I recently discovered BrainLuxury, a company offering these solutions, finding them highly effective. Intrigued, I reached out, leading to a conversation with their CEO and Chief Science Advisor discussing the impact of quality sleep and poor sleep on brain performance, common misunderstandings regarding sleep aids, products, and bedtime routines, and the inspiration and science and data behind the BrainLuxury products

Shifting Our Mindset Spectrum

How often do you hear someone say they’re “not a math person,” or sociable, or creative? Or, conversely, how many times have you heard someone described as a “natural?” All too often, we accept that we are born with inherent abilities that we cannot change. In other words, a fixed mindset. Stanford-trained mindset expert Eduardo Briceño has been working to transform that narrative. As co-founder of Mindset Works with Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck, Briceño says the key to success is not simply effort, focus, or resilience, but the growth mindset that creates them. In this episode, we discuss our obsession with labels, strategies for shifting our mindset spectrum from fixed to growth-oriented, how to objectively open our minds to new or opposing thoughts, performing self-assessments to understand our progress toward a growth mindset, and our biologi

The Noise Bottleneck Concept

The Science of Self-Awareness

Metacognition, or ‘thinking about thinking’, is the most important tool we have for understanding our own mind. It is what enables self-awareness as well as what lets us think about the minds of others. It is the ultimate human trait, and in its most rarefied forms is a power that neither other animals nor our current artificial intelligences have. Metacognition teaches us the limits of our own knowledge. Once we understand what it is and how it works, we can improve our performance and make better decisions.
