what you've always wanted to know about: being an author

in this episode we asked the wonderful author Rachel Greenlaw.. all the question we selfishly wanted to know about what it is like being an author (especially a fantasy & romantacy author) !! Rachel Greenlaw, the author of “One Christmas Morning” and the upcoming book “Compass and Blade” (which comes out on the 29th of February), dives into her journey as an author. She shares her writing process and inspirations, specifically when it comes to world building & the romantic arcs of her characters. Rachel also very honestly discusses what it is like getting feedback, criticism and also touches on the online spaces of ‘booktokers’. we absolutely loved talking to her and hope you enjoy getting an insight into her mind as much as we did <3 Check Rachel out on instagram here and her lovely website here!! p.s we were very lucky enough to receive early copies of compass and blade and we both read the book in a day. It was the perfect cosy read and the fact that it is the first of an epic romantacy series. Definitely one to add to your 2024 reading list!! another p.s - Leo loses her audio for around 30 minutes in this episode so please forgive us for this and if the audio sounds a little funky xxx we're sorry to stay up to date on our lives, contribute to future episodes and share any of your thoughts - pls do follow us on instagram, tiktok or subscribe to us on youtube here! ☕ also, if you want to join our BOOK CLUB... you can join us here where we are just finishing up ‘eat pray love’ and are expecting some juicy controversial reviews hehe. for advertising opportunities, or you don't have any social media and want to chat, please email us at: [email protected]

In this episode, cara dives into the topic of struggling to make genuine connections: self-discovery: she unpacks the challenges faced when leaving familiar surroundings and entering new social circles. the importance of staying true to oneself, even in the face of cultural differences and societal expectations. instant connections vs. effortful relationships: the gut feeling of instant connections and the pondering of why some relationships require more effort. cara emphasises the value of getting to know people beyond first impressions. quality over quantity: cara discusses the misconception of needing to connect with everyone and the significance of cherishing authentic connections. exploring the idea that different friendships serve different purposes. friendship realities vs. social media fantasies: she addresses the influence of social media in shaping unrealistic expectations of friendships. recognising that true connections involve effort (highs&lows). to stay up to date on our lives, contribute to future episodes and share any of your thoughts - pls do follow us on instagram, tiktok or subscribe to us on youtube here! ☕ also, if you want to join our BOOK CLUB... you can join us here you can join us here we are reading eat, pray, love for our January read <3 <3 for advertising opportunities, or you don't have any social media and want to chat, please email us at: [email protected]

2024 Is going to be iconic

EEPPP how is it already time for our first episode of 2024 and in our opinion its ICONIC. 2024… we feel excited, nervous, scared, and grateful for everything that is to come. join us as we continue with our tradition and take this time to set our intentions for the upcoming year…new habits we want to introduce, patterns we want to break and goals we want to achieve. We also discuss the ways in which we want to push ourselves out of our comfort zone this year! If you would like to join us in this tradition here are the questions that we answer (it honestly is such a fun journaling exercise to do and one to look back on at the end of the year) What is one overarching intention you would like to set for this coming year? (Potentially choose one word that reflects this - our ‘word of the year’) What are three ways you will push yourself out of your comfort zone in 2024? What do you want to do more of in 2024? What do you want to do less of in 2024? What are three things you want to accomplish in 2024 (can be small/big) Thanks again for all of you that have listened to us in 2023 and we are truly excited to continue to make content (that is hopefully better for all of you) to stay up to date on our lives, contribute to future episodes and share any of your thoughts - pls do follow us on instagram, tiktok or subscribe to us on youtube here! ☕ also, if you want to join our BOOK CLUB... you can join us here where we are currently in the process of picking our January read <3 <3 for advertising opportunities, or you don't have any social media and want to chat, please email us at: [email protected]

why our inner critics can go f*** themselves

we think its time to tell our inner critics that they can go f*** themselves!! In this longer episode (our way of saying a quick sorry for not uploading last week 🥺) we're taking some time to reflect on our experiences with our inner critic. But first we want to understand all about what actually is the ‘inner critic’. We'll be exploring the philosophy and history behind this phenomenon, as well as the neurophysiology that underpins our self-critical nature 🧠. We share examples of inner critic voices, how it affects us, and its links to various difficulties such as depression and anxiety. We also touch on the reasons why our inner critic should not be trusted ( it is not a true moral guide) and how it is usually formed as a response to environmental conditioning… In next week’s episode we’ll be sharing tips and strategies for managing the inner critic, so that we can all practice more self compassion and self love 💞 and, as always, we want to hear from you! Let us know in the question below.. How do you manage your Inner critic? we had a rough week… tips on managing stress and work/life balance

Its just one of these weeks.. maybe something was in the air?? In this episode we discuss how we’ve been feeling recently and share our recent struggles with switching off from work when things are stressful, finding a better work life balance, and detaching our work from our identity. we talk about: the importance of setting boundaries whilst knowing yourself worth Detoxing from all technology after work Prioritising time for hobbies/body movements /outdoors Detaching work from being a reflection on yourself (especially if you have people pleasing tendancies) I (Cara) personally found this episode really helpful to talk through especially as I had quite a self-inflicted unhealthy week. I want this to be a reminder that its okay to have off weeks and to let yourself go. Let’s recognise that we should be proud of ourselves and how we handle stressful situations, even when also highlighting and recognising that we could be kinder and have a healthier work balance in the future. If you're a student this episode can still apply to you as we recognise a lot of similar feelings that we had at uni/school! to stay up to date on our lives, contribute to future episodes, and share any of your thoughts - pls do follow us on instagram (@the.matcha.diaries), tiktok or subscribe to us on youtube here! Also, if you want to join our book club... you can join us here! for advertising opportunities ( or you don't have any social media and want to chat ) please email us at: [email protected] logo credit: @french75studio

"Under heaven all can see beauty as beauty, only because there is ugliness. All can know good as good only because there is evil. Being and nonbeing produce each other. The difficult is born in the easy. Long is defined by short, the high by the low. Before and after go along with each other. So the sage lives openly with apparent duality and paradoxical unity. - 2nd Verse of the Tao Te Ching In this weeks episode, we have a lot of questions and thoughts hehe.. we discuss the concept of the duality of life and how understanding it and most importantly accepting it.. can change the way we perceive our life!! Some specific topics we question are: - can two things both be true at the same time ? - the conflict and struggle of wanting and striving for self improvement and how that contradicts with self acceptance and self love - how we're allowed to feel all the emotions present in the human experience at the same time - how duality is present in both the human experience and in nature - Is it true that you can only fully know one thing by understanding its opposite ? (love + loss, success + failure, dark + light, the good + the bad) ? song reference: Happy & Sad by Kacey Musgraves join us for the journalling challenge this week as we keep track of all of the supposedly contradicting moments of extreme emotion that we feel throughout each day! so... please pour yourself a matcha and enjoy listening! 🍵 Follow us on instagram (@the.matcha.diaries) or subscribe to us on youtube here.. to stay up to date on our lives, contribute to future episodes, and share any of your thoughts! I (cara) had no idea what we were going to talk about....Leo had a few things on her mind that she really wanted to unload and so.... join us for a truly authentic chit chatty style episode, where leo shares a recent 'going out' experience. leo discusses how the experience made her feel, and the questions that arose regarding clubbing, going out culture, fomo & the pressure to say yes even when you don't want to! how i've failed myself

this was a difficult one … inspired by Elizabeth Day’s podcast “how to fail”, this is part 2 (part1: leo, part 2: cara) of our episode series were we asked ourselves the tough question “what are your biggest failures” ? A question that might seem simple to the eye… but it pushes someone to think about their past, their experiences, things they regret.. but most importantly the lessons that they have learnt, and how those failures are vital to their current successes. the two failures we discuss in part 2 are: saying no to a lot of things growing up (because I cared a lot of what people thought of me) + ultimately missing out on a lot of experiences closing my self off in relationships + friendships a note from cara: recording this episode in itself taught me that it is okay to take space, and made me realise the importance of believing in your worth and the value you bring to those around you. If you ever don't feel like you're good enough, that your voice and story isn't worth sharing, then I want you to know that you're not alone BUT we have to start believing in the reasons we are put on this earth and all the greatness that comes with our presence. p.s if you want to join our book club and come meet us in person... you can join us here! logo credit: french75studios

do our failures define us?

we dug DEEP in this episode … inspired by Elizabeth Day’s podcast “how to fail”, this is part 1 (part1: leo, part 2: cara) of our episode series were we asked ourselves the tough question “what are your biggest failures” ? A question that might seem simple to the eye… but it pushes someone to think about their past, their experiences, things they regret.. but most importantly the lessons that they have learnt, and how those failures are vital to their current successes. the two failures we discuss in part 1 are: 1. seeking validation to the expense of other people 2. not treating my body and mind as they deserve a note from leo: this was by far the most difficult episode to record and upload, but i’m also proud of our community that i feel safe enough to be this vulnerable on here. my hope is that even one of you listening will be able to relate and feel slightly less alone, because i know that would have helped me a lot when i was going through these. sending lots of love. p.s if you want to join our book club and come meet us in person... you can join us here! the importance of finding beauty in the little moments

How are you... really? A week ago we did a little check in and asked how you are all feeling. We discuss the importance of finding beauty and happiness in the little things, and share the things we actively do to make our days better. is your subconscious lying to you?

Have you ever had a dream that left you feeling weird the next day but you couldn't quite put your finger on the reason why? Well, I (leo here) had one of those recently - which got us talking & thinking about the meaning behind our dreams and how the subconscious can sometimes harbour long forgotten or deeply buried feelings... So we decided to do some research into the topic... and boy are we glad we did! In this episode we share our findings about the subconscious (obviously with the caveat that we're no scientists, we're merely curious matcha girlies wanting to share our newly acquired wisdom with all of you!), and cover the following: What is the difference between our conscious and subconscious mind? Which areas of our life does the subconscious impact? How does the subconscious communicate with us? How does trauma or negative past experiences impact our subconscious? How can we tap into our subconscious to create the life we want? should we stop striving to be our best selves?

First off - we want to say we're SO sorry about the audio quality, Cara had to record on her phone because she’s at home in Jordan (😍), but we still wanted to upload the episode because we loved recording it... So we hope you still enjoy listening!! In this episode we do something we’ve not done in this way before! We react to an article which seems to contradict the whole principle of our podcast?? We’ll link the article here, so you can have a read along with us. We discuss the topics of: Are the principles of self improvement and self care toxic? Who REALLY is benefiting from Gen z continuously striving towards bettering themselves? Does one have to drink alcohol to live your twenties well? What is better - blissful ignorance or being being all too conscious of all the bad in the world? We ended up having a lot of open ended conversations and would looooveee to hear your guys thoughts on the themes we talked about!! your reminder to be confident & know your self worth

This episode is definitely a listen for when you're on your hot girl walk! We felt so empowered after recording this episode and felt ready to care a little less about what others think and trust who we are a lot more xx In this episode, we address... Where we're at with confidence at the moment How confidence makes every aspect of your life better - friendships, appearances, not being afraid to be your true self The spotlight effect where people tend to overestimate how much others notice aspects of one's appearance or behaviour Affirmations, self worth, and internal trust and how that leads to confidence How being in the moment and living in the moment can give you confidence Our negative bias and why we need to stop listening to it How pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is key to confidence building Everyone says fake it till you make it.. but how do we do it?? the fight against societal expectations

Welcome back to part 2 of us reacting to things you do/did in your life because of societal pressures! In this short chatty episode, we dive into more juicy topics like dating pressures at a young age.. we talk about the power of movies and books and the role it played in making us feel pressured to date and find "the one" at such a young age... We discuss the pressures of dressing a certain way to fit in and finally the pressure to shave in today's society. Why is it a thing? catch up with us: friendship breakups, pop culture controversies & food freedom

... and we're back with another catch up! Whilst Cara is enjoying the sunshine & family time in beautiful Jordan, I (Leo) take the mic and get REAL about my current relationship status and emotions. This episode is part life catch up, part listener Q&A - with questions discussed including: how did i meet my boyfriend? (full story time included 🤪) how to maintain long distance communication successfully? is it natural for number of friends to decrease in adulthood? how to be satisfied with yourself in times of transition (e.g. school to uni, uni to job)? reacting to your friendship breakups

This episode is a juicy/sad/pensive/chaotic one! If there's one thing that hurts even more than romantic breakups, its friendship ones. Those are so often the ones we can't stop wondering and thinking about ... even years later! dealing with change in your 20's

When we asked on our instagram for episode topics you'd be interested to hear, a lot of them were about some type of change - in jobs, in location, in relationships, in bodies etc. So we thought we'd combine them all into one big ol' episode all about CHANGE. Especially in our twenties, we are having to confront different types of changes - moving away from home, going from being a student to a young professional, growing apart from certain friendships or watching our bodies age for the first time (to just name a few examples). In this episode, we touch on our personal experiences and how we've coped/are currently coping with these changes. matcha chat #2: letting go of negative self-talk

Welcome back to episode 2 of our “matcha chats” series - episodes that are filled with heart-spilling topics we care about and want to get off our chests! This week is a little different to our usual episodes, as it will just be me, Cara <3 I thought I would sit down and do a chatty episode on a topic that i know is super relatable, and essentially something that in the past year or so I’ve noticed is taking over me in ways that i don’t want it to. This episode is all about negative self talk and our inner critic. I dive into what negative self talk and our inner critic truly is, I share the common forms that it shows itself, and go into some of my personal experiences (how it affects my self image, relationships and work). I also did a little bit of research so that we could work together to stop this negative voice and ultimately... be our own best friend! Why do we self sabotage?

Do you experience a lot of negative self talk? Do you avoid things a lot? Procrastinate through mindless scrolling? and chronically worry? Then you might be self sabotaging and you don't even know it! Self sabotage occurs when we destroy ourselves physically, mentally, or emotionally to hinder our own success and wellbeing by undermining personal goals and values.. it can be conscious behaviour or unconscious, and presents itself in many different facets of a persons everyday life ( I.e romantic relationships, career, education, family relationships) (Brenner, 2019). In part 1, we understand what it really means to be self sabotaging, we uncover what these behaviours and patterns may look like and share our own personal experiences.. we also encourage you to sit down and journal / list some of the behaviours. In part 2 coming next week, we will dive into the science behind it and understand why our brains are wired this way. We also uncover how can we get better at identifying when we are self sabotaging and break the pattern? Is comparison always the thief of joy?

If comparison is the thief of joy, why is it so bloody hard to actually stop comparing yourself to other people? Why do humans even compare themselves in the first place? Is there such a thing as healthy comparison? How can we use comparison to improve our lives? In today’s episode of the matcha diaries, we attempt to answer these questions, as well as many others surrounding the complex topic of comparison. So many blogs/podcast episodes on this topic we found online always had one main takeaway: “Stop comparing yourself to others''! And whilst that sounds great in theory, in practice this always seemed to prove impossible and slightly too simplistic… So we decided to do a little digging ourselves and explore the scientific reasons behind human’s seemingly endless need for comparison. 💭 Obviously, we are NOT experts in this field and just reflecting on the research we found online (all our sources can be found below). But we still hope that this can give you some food for thought and most importantly, shift your perspective on comparison a little! 💚 So pour yourself a matcha and enjoy! 🍵 Follow us on instagram (@the.matcha.diaries) to let us know what you thought of the episode and your own thoughts on comparison!
