How to make your marketing documents more accessible

Did you know that in Australia, over 13 million people have one or more chronic (long-term) eye conditions? And that over 575,000 are blind or vision impaired in Australia alone. I certainly didn’t. And I’m embarrassed to admit that until I met Kathryn Collins, a graphic designer that specialises in creating accessible documents (and the 2nd person in Australia to recently qualified as an Accessible Document Specialist with the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP), I had never really spared a thought about the importance of making marketing material more accessible., I had never really spared a thought about the importance of making marketing material more accessible. What is a Certified Practising Marketer and why should you care?

How a brand refresh has re-energised Kids Heart Pilates marketing

In the third and final episode in our three-part series on branding, rather than speak with the branding experts, I speak to a fabulous small business owner who recently refreshed her brand. Liz Dawson is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP), Pilates instructor and owner and director of two businesses; Kids Heart Pilates & Northside Allied Health. How to be the boss of your own time

One of the biggest challenges small business owners face when it comes to getting their marketing done is ‘not having the time.’ A small business owner typically wears many hats and can often feel stretched between pillar and post on a daily basis. And if we are not careful, we can fall into spending our days being ‘busy’ and yet being completely unproductive. The trouble is, as far as I know, no-one has worked out yet how to fit that additional hour into the day so that we are able to get everything done that we need to. We are stuck with our 24 hours and our 7 days a week. And once we accept that, we can start to make choices about how we prioritise our tasks within those 24 hours. Surfers by passion, their company has a relaxed vibe, but they are serious about the service that they provide for their customers. How To Develop a Leaders Mindset with Cathy Burke

Cathy Burke believes that leadership potential rests within every person, every community and every organisation. It just needs to be activated. Cathy works with people in organisations throughout the world to help them develop a leaders mindset. In her previous life as Australian CEO and Global Vice President of The Hunger Project, Cathy transformed mindsets and developed leaders as the foundation of her work in villages around the world. Even in the most difficult conditions, time and again people without anything were able to tap into the power of their mindset to achieve remarkable outcomes in their communities. In this season where we are revealing what goes on behind the scenes in the work that we do, I thought it pertinent to talk about some of the personal development that I have done recently that supports my growth as a human but also as a business owner and of course within my profession as a marketer. Recently, I have felt that any stagnation, or any hurdles that were facing me in my profession and in my business, were not necessarily due to a lack of business and marketing skills, they have been due to a lacking mindset. I recently completed Cathy’s Rising program and I am now aware of the significant role of mindset. In fact, I’d even go as far to say, that in hindsight, if I knew then what I know now, I would not even bother spending any money on any of the many other professional development programs I have done, until I got my mindset in the right spot. Ten things you must know about your customers

The definition of marketing success is getting the right message in front of the right customer at the right time. So how do we know what that message should be? How do we know what the right customer looks like? And how do we know the right channel and timing to use to place our message in their path so they notice us? We ask our customers of course. Your customer has thousands of messages and businesses and people and news and content that’s dropping into their brain each day and forming as their own private perspective based on their lived and learned experiences. In order for your marketing message to make an impact in their already overwhelmed brain, we need to be able to gain a better understanding of their world view and how we can position ourselves within this. Customer research is a non-negotiable in my marketing planning process. For every marketing plan that I develop, I ensure that we have gone out and asked our customers the right question in order to the insight that we need to effectively plan our marketing. While every business and every situation differs, there are 10 common questions that we will generally ask in every customer research project. These help us define exactly how we get the right message to the right person at the right time.
