Death by Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake | Death by Chocolate Mystery Book One

Welcome to the Angela Episode! Angela Maria Hart and Angela Cox discuss Death by Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake (Death by Chocolate Mystery #1) by Sarah Graves.ย  ๐Ÿ“– ABOUT THE BOOK ๐Ÿ“– Life just got a little sweeter in the island fishing village of Eastport, Maine. Jacobia โ€œJakeโ€ Tiptree and her best friend Ellie are opening a waterfront bake shop, The Chocolate Moose, where their tasty treats pair perfectly with the salty ocean breeze. But while Jake has moved on from fixing up houses, she still can't resist the urge to snoop into the occasional murder. Jake and Ellie have been through a lot together, from home repair to homicide investigation. So when they decide to open a chocolate-themed bakery, they figure itโ€™ll be a piece of cake. With Ellieโ€™s old family recipes luring in customers, they expect to make plenty of dough this Fourth of July weekend. Having family home for the holiday only sweetens the deal for Jakeโ€”until the ill wind of an early-season hurricane blows up her plans. When the storm hits, Jakeโ€™s grown son Sam is stranded in a Boston bus station, and her husband Wade is stuck on a cargo ship. But as bitter as the storm is, something even more sinister is brewing in the kitchen of The Chocolate Mooseโ€”where health inspector Matt Muldoon is found murdered. Ellie never made a secret of her distaste for Matt, who had been raining on their parade with bogus talk of health code violations. Now, with no alibi for the night of the murder, sheโ€™s in a sticky situation with the policeโ€”and itโ€™s up to Jake to catch the real killer and keep Ellie living in the land of the free. ย  GoodReads Page: YouTube Link:ย

Fresh Brewed Murder | Ground Rules Mystery Book One

Welcome to the Angela episode! Angela Maria Hart and Angela Cox discuss Fresh Brewed Murder (A Ground Rules Mystery 1) by Emmeline Duncan with The Cozy Mystery Book Club!ย  โ˜•๏ธ BOOK BLURB โ˜•๏ธ Master barista Sage Caplin is opening a new coffee cart in Portland, Oregon, but a killer is brewing up a world of trouble.... Portland is famous for its rain, hipsters, craft beers...and coffee. Sage Caplin has high hopes for her coffee cart, Ground Rules, which she runs with her business partner, Harley - a genius at roasting beans and devising new blends. That's essential in a city where locals have intensely strong opinions about cappuccino versus macchiato - especially in the case of one of Sage's very first customers.... Sage finds the man's body in front of her cart, a fatal slash across his neck. There's been plenty of anger in the air, from longtime vendors annoyed at Ground Rules taking a coveted spot in the food truck lot, to protesters demonstrating against a new high-rise. But who was mad enough to commit murder? Sage is already fending off trouble in the form of her estranged, con artist mother, who's trying to trickle back into her life. But when Sage's very own box cutter is discovered to be the murder weapon, she needs to focus on finding the killer fast - before her business, and her life, come to a bitter end... ย  GoodReads Page:ย  YouTube Livestream Link:ย

Pride, Prejudice and Poison | A Jane Austen Society Mystery Book One

Join Angela, Ben, and the rest of the sleuthing family for the first Cozy Mystery Book Club livestream of 2024! Kicking off a year of coziness with Pride, Prejudice and Poison by Elizabeth Blake. ๐Ÿ“– ABOUT THE BOOK ๐Ÿ“– Antiquarian bookstore proprietor Erin Coleridge uses her sense and sensibility to deduce who killed the president of the local Jane Austen Society. Erin Coleridgeโ€™s used bookstore in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire, England is a meeting place for the villagers and, in particular, for the local Jane Austen Society. At the Societyโ€™s monthly meeting, matters come to a head between the old guard and its young turks. After the meeting breaks for tea, persuasion gives way to murderโ€”with extreme prejudiceโ€”when president Sylvia Pemberthy falls dead to the floor. Poisoned? Presumablyโ€ฆbut by whom? And was Sylvia the only target? Handsomeโ€”but shyโ€”Detective Inspector Peter Hadley and charismatic Sergeant Rashid Jarral arrive at the scene. The long suspect list includes Sylviaโ€™s lover Kurt Becker and his tightly wound wife Suzanne. Or, perhaps, the killer was Sylviaโ€™s own cuckolded husband, Jerome. Among the many Society members who may have had her in their sights is dashing Jonathan Alder, who was heard having a royal battle of words with the late president the night before. Then, when Jonathan Alder narrowly avoids becoming the next victim, Farnsworth (the townโ€™s โ€œcat ladyโ€) persuades a seriously time-crunched Erin to help DI Hadley. But the killer is more devious than anyone imagines. ย  GoodReads Page:ย  YouTube Livestream:ย

But after murder claims a favorite customer, Emily canโ€™t rely on a sidekick to solve the crimeโ€”or stay alive. Georgia never skips morning cappuccinos with her knitting circle. Her pals fear the worstโ€”especially Lois, a close friend who recently moved to town. As evening creeps in, Emily and the ladies search for Georgia at home. And they find herโ€”murdered among a scattering of stale donuts . . . Disturbingly, Georgiaโ€™s demise coincides with the five-year anniversary of her sonโ€™s murder, a case Emilyโ€™s late detective husband failed to solve before his own sudden death. With Lois hiding secrets and an innocent manโ€™s life at stake, Emilyโ€™s forced to revisit painful memories on her quest for answers. Though someoneโ€™s alibi is full of holes, only a sprinkling of clues have been left behind. A Brush with Murder | A Paint by Murder Mystery Book One

Welcome to The Cozy Mystery Book Club! In this episode, we will be discussing Bailee Abbott's A Brush with Murder. ๐Ÿ“– BOOK BLURB ๐Ÿ“– A quiet lakeside town in western New York state is the new home of Manhattan artist Chloe Abbington and the backdrop for murder in this series debut by Bailee Abbott. For Chloe Abbington, the transition from fine art painter in New York City to painting-event business owner in charming Whisper Cove is more than a little jarring. But when poison-pen journalist Fiona Gimble writes a viciously negative review of the newly opened Paint with a View, Chloe learns that critics are the same everywhere. And when she finds Fiona's body behind her shop with a painting knife in her neck, Chloe realizes that this picture-perfect town offers anything but peace and quiet. Suddenly, bustling Artisan Alley is a crime scene, and Chloe is the prime suspect. Her sister and business partner, Izzie, isn't much helpโ€”she's busy running the shop, and besides, she has secrets of her own. As shrewd Detective Barrett tries to paint her into a corner, Chloe soon finds that Fiona had plenty of enemies. Theย Whisper Cove Gazetteย columnist wielded her pen like a sword, slicing and dicing just about every shop owner in the lakeside town. With the help of her affectionate canine buddy, Max, Chloe sets out to prove that she's been framed for Fiona's murder. But she'd better learn the fine art of detection quickly, before the real killer paints the town red again. Otherwise, she may end up trading in her paint smock for an orange jumpsuit...or a green burial plot. ย  YouTube Livestream:ย

The Cracked Spine

The Cracked Spine was the March 2022 read for The Cozy Mystery Book Club. A lot of members enjoyed the book and found the idea of "bookish voices" speaking to the main character interesting as well as the potential paranormal elements that may appear in the rest of the series. Many of the sleuthers were drawn to the story because of the Scottish setting. Who doesn't love Scotland?!? Plus, a thoughtful Scottish heartthrob in a kilt who sends a dozen white roses the day after a date was a huge point in the book's favor. ย  The Cracked Spine (Scottish Bookshop Mystery #1) by Paige Sheltonย  In need of a good adventure, Delaney Nichols takes the leap and moves to Edinburgh, Scotland to start a job at The Cracked Spine. She doesn't know much about what she's gotten herself into, other than that the work sounds exciting, and that her new boss, Edwin MacAlister, has given her the opportunity of a lifetime. Edwin has promised that she'll be working with "a desk that has seen the likes of kings and queens, paupers and princes," and Delaney can't wait to get started. When she arrives, she meets her new Scottish family; also working at the Cracked Spine are Rosie, perpetually wrapped in scarves, and who always has tiny dog Hector in tow; Hamlet, a nineteen-year-old thespian with a colored past and bright future; and Edwin, who is just as enigmatic and mysterious as Delaney expected. An unexpected bonus is Tom the bartender from across the street, with his piercing eyes, and a rolling brogue -- and it doesn't hurt that he looks awfully good in a kilt. But before she can settle into her new life, a precious artifact -- a previously undiscovered First Folio of Shakespeare's plays -- goes missing, and Edwin's sister is murdered, seemingly in connection to the missing folio. Delaney decides to do some sleuthing of her own, to find out just what the real story is behind the priceless folio, and how it's connected to the tragic death, all without getting harmed herself. ย  GoodReads Link:ย  ย  YouTube Livestream:ย
