But I got sick… And made the mistake of thinking I had a common cold or flu… When really it was glandular fever. It led to extreme exhaustion and eventually I collapsed. Episode 68 - Is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome REAL?

The Truth about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. This is what we discuss in our latest podcast episode that has just been released. Today, we delved into the question of whether Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a real and debilitating condition. The unequivocal answer is yes. Contrary to misconceptions, CFS does not selectively affect lazy individuals but rather often impacts go-getters and type A personalities. What REALLY causes Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? It's such a big question that I have been asked thousands of times over the past decade, and I'm sure it's one that you've been asked before too. There's no one simple answer, so in our latest Podcast Episode I dive deep into what REALLY causes the debilitating condition of M.E/CFS? Below is what I cover in this short video: CFS is a complex, multi-faceted illness. About 70% of cases are linked to prior viral infections (glandular fever, mono, etc.). Physical and emotional stress, often with a virus, can trigger CFS. Long COVID can evolve into CFS. Environmental factors like stress, toxins, and past trauma contribute. CFS affects the body, brain, immune system, and emotional well-being. Misunderstanding and scepticism from society are common. Recovery is possible; people of all ages and severity levels have reclaimed their health. One significant challenge faced by individuals with CFS is the lack of understanding and belief from the outside world. Society sometimes dismisses CFS, attributing it to being "all in the head" or implying laziness, which is far from the truth. The emotional and spiritual aspects of a person are deeply impacted, leading to a sense of loss and mourning for their old life. Episode 64 - Check this Amazing Story of Recovery from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Meet Kristi - Recovered from Severe M.E/CFS When Kristi first came to me, her first question to me was "Will I be able to hike again?" Before getting Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Kristi was an avid hiker and she was devastated when she could not only hike, but couldn't walk and at her worst couldn't even feed herself. To say that her life had changed enormously since falling unwell, was an understatement. Today, Kristi now volunteers for Search and Rescue and not only can she do this role well, but she is in fact a Type-One Searcher, meaning she's the one who goes through difficult and rough terrain to perform search and rescues. Absolutely remarkable! Especially, because at one point, Kristi didn't know if she would even be able to hike again. Kristi's recovery wasn't instantaneous. She was incredibly frustrated when she was trying to find answers. Multiple Doctors and multiple tests had her going around in circles. She was unwell for over a decade with a long list of symptoms, including nausea, heart palpitations, pain, unable to walk, could not bare to look at any light, and at her worst she couldn't chew food. She came to me at a really tough point. I worked with her to help her solidify the foundations of health which set her up on the right path to recovery. It wasn't easy, it took work and consistency. It took time, being guided to do the right things at the right time, little by little. Kristi had been told she would never hike again. She proved this sentence wrong and actually blew it out of the water. Episode 63 - How Carly Overcame Severe M.E/CFS

Meet Carly - Recovered from Severe M.E/CFS When I was first hired to help Carly with her Recovery, her and her family felt like giving up. They had TRIED EVERYTHING. Spending upwards of $50,000 dollars on treatments and people with little to know improvement. Poor Carly had been through the wringer in terms of trying everything and not getting anywhere. She was exhausted, frustrated and felt like giving up. She didn’t know who to trust, what to do or even what to think, when it came to the possibility of recovery from M.E/CFS. Her biggest symptoms were extreme lethargy, feeling tired all the time, secondary anxiety, muscle de-condition and would often lose her voice when symptoms flared. I explained to her and her family, that what we do at CFS Health is a very different approach to most other one size fits all approaches. What we are going to do is not treat the symptoms, instead focus on building her health from the ground up. We are going to reverse what chronic fatigue syndrome has done for her. Of course nothing happened over night, but within 4 weeks, it was the first time she noticed actual real tangible progress. It was the first time, it all made sense to her in what we were doing day to day and she could finally see the light at the end of the tunnel after a long hard fight. Well, I am proud to say, Carly did recover, not just a little bit, but fully. She runs her own world wide business (incredible brand), she got married (I got invited.. See pic below) and she just had a baby! All of this was a far distant dream 10 years ago. But now it’s her reality. She made it happen. Today I sat down with Carly to interview her on her recovery. Episode 62 - Blake Cured His Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Blake was one of the sickest clients that ever came to see me face to face. He was so bad, he had to cancel his first 3 appointments with me because he simply didn’t have the energy to leave his bedroom. I explained to his mum, if he wants to get better, he’s going to have to do things to help him get better. One of those things was coming to get help. (This was well before the CFS Health Online Recovery Program existed). When he first came through the doors at my clinic, he was so pale that he looked like a ghost, he could barely speak, and could barely keep his eyes open. His sleep was so out of the whack, that the doctors made him do all these crazy sleep tests, take all these sleep potions and medications and nothing worked. What transpired over the next two years with Blake, was truly remarkable. Blake got his life back, he got back to playing sport, he got back to studying and socialising with friends, he was able to start living again. Episode 59 - Graded Exercise Therapy and Why It Doesn’t Work for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Recovery

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence(NICE), in the United Kingdom, released the following guidelines in regards to diagnosing and managing M.E./CFS: “The draft guideline recognises that ME/CFS, which is estimated to affect over 250,000 people in England and Wales, is a complex, multi-system, chronic medical condition where there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to managing symptoms. It stresses the need for a tailored, individualised approach to care that allows joint decision making and informed choice. Because of the harms reported by people with ME/CFS, as well as the committee’s own experience of the effects when people exceed their energy limits, the draft guideline says that any programme based on fixed incremental increases in physical activity or exercise, for example, graded exercise therapy (GET) should not be offered for the treatment of ME/CFS. Episode 58 - Lauren's Inspiring Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Recovery Story

Meet Lauren from the USA. Lauren came to us in an awful way… She suffered pretty severe M.E/CFS. Lauren first went to the Doctor, only for them to turn around and tell her “there’s nothing you can do about it”. She was DEVASTATED. Her health was declining, she had so many unexplained symptoms like brain fog, lethargy, total exhaustion and as you can imagine with the little help or hope she received from her doctor, she was becoming more and more anxious and depressed. Lauren had no practical help whatsoever. At one point she couldn't cook for herself and struggled to get up and down her stairs in her house. She saw lots of different Doctors and was getting no where. One Doctor said she would have to live with this illness for the rest of her life. Luckily, Lauren didn’t buy into that opinion and knew intrinsically that she could heal. She just needed to do the work herself and get the right holistic approach that would help her do exactly that. Lauren found a success story online on our YouTube channel from one of our clients, and after watching it she knew straight away this was what she needed. Within 2 weeks, she put in an application, had an enrolment call and joined The Online Recovery Program. Her initial goals were being able to cook for herself and do the basics around the house. Those goals were accomplished pretty quickly and soon after she was back hiking again and building up her strength and stamina as her health maintained. Almost every week inside our group there was a post from Lauren with pictures from her hike or beach walk! Pretty cool. Initially it was all about getting her baseline sorted so she could stabilise her health and stop pushing and crashing her energy levels. That took a few months of work. But when she finally got that, things started to click. Day to day she just knew what she needed to do for herself and she did it! It worked. Getting her sleep right, her gut health right, routine/structure right and her mindset right were huge components of her healing. Healing her nervous system, reconditioning her body and letting go of the guilt, shame and old life and instead, building into her new one.
