Bulldogs, bellybutton gazing and initial reactions to the 2022 NRL Draw release

In the next of our offseason chats, 2021 champion Tim Moodie a.k.a. the Shady SC Lurker, Catfish and Joe Fitz share their initial thoughts about the 2022 draw release including possibly the team with the best opening draw, look into some stats to prove why you should avoid Rabbitohs for Round 1 teams and for some reason, spend far too long discussing the Bulldogs.  Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! Players to keep an eye on during the 2022 preseason

In this episode, Catfish and Joe Fitz look at the players who 'popped' in 2021 but only had a brief flash of interest or relevance this season (five games or less), and throw out some names to keep tabs on over the offseason in case they continue trending in the right direction for 2022. From names like Ieremia Nanai to Luke Keary, there are certainly a variety of names to chuck on the watchlist!  Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! Introducing your 2021 NRL SuperCoach Champion, Tim Moodie - Raw, unfiltered and uncut

[Recorded the week after the Grand Final - apologies for the delay in editing/uploading, things have been hectic!] Catfish is joined by newly-crowned 2021 NRL SuperCoach Champion, Tim Moodie, for a laidback, more relaxed chat where we celebrate his victory, the Panthers epic Grand Final win, and do a look back over his successful season.  Tim is refreshingly and brutally honest about his approach to SuperCoach, we get to see how Tim's brain works and our chat goes off on tangents and directions never thought possible - and things get really 'real' at the end too for a while. All part of the Tim Moodie experience, it seems!  Please also consider donating to the MyCause page for Jaimee (Tim's sister) - https://www.mycause.com.au/p/262877/help-jaimee-battle-breast-cancer A massive thank you on behalf of Tim and his sister Jaimee for those who have already been incredibly generous so far.  Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! The 2021 Champy Ms Award Show

[This was recorded last Thursday so note that the Dally Ms hadn't had its 'second night' yet!] Maybe it's the first one of many but who knows - in any case, Catfish and Joe Fitz present the Champions' take on the Dally Ms - the Champy Ms (yes bad pun definitely intended). We use a proper voting system inspired by the Dally Ms and apply it via NRL SuperCoach points. Which players receive this prestigious award in 2021?! You'll have to listen to find out (no prizes for guessing the winners unfortunately haha).  Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! This is it - we finally made it! Round 25 and the culmination of all of our efforts; overall and head-to-head. And... our teams suck! The vast majority of SuperCoaches are battling to field even 80% of a full team. However, even if the teamlists sucked, we have an absolute belter of an episode - Bear is BACK and he reunites with Catfish and Joe Fitz. We are joined by numero uno - Tim Moodie, coach of The Villi Army and co-host of The SC Experience podcast, and red hot favourite to take out the title of 2021 KFC SuperCoach Champion! But wait, there's more! We also have SuperCoach guru, Olympic commentator, former Australian Test Cricketer and husband to netball royalty, Trent Copeland!  So yeah, we still have the Round 24 injury wrap, we chat about the games, we also go again with this week's Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Round!  We then hear some serious insight from an elite sportsperson who has played at the highest level, and also we get a glimpse into the mind of the SuperCoach who has been one step ahead of everyone else this season. Do or die, plus it's time for a rest - Round 24, 2021

The penultimate round comes with some serious decisions for SuperCoaches who still have trades. The race for overall glory is still wide open, and the H2H finals are at the "do or die" stage. Catfish and Joe Fitz are here again to help work through the Round 24 match-ups and highlight key points arising from teamlists. We also go again with this week's Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Round!  Strategy-wise, we focus on breaking down which teams may be in positions, depending on how they go this week, to rest their star players, which obviously has massive implications on our SuperCoach teams. If only NRL coaches cared about us, right? We also consider whether it's Captain Turbo all day every day, or whether Cleary is worth the consideration. Or can you have the best of both worlds...? The answer is... maybe!  Timestamps if you want to jump ahead: Injury wrap - 5 min 45s Teamlist Takeaways: 10 min 06s Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Week: 38 min 47s Strategy Chat: 42 min 40s Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! It's really not so Cleary-cut right now - Round 23, 2021

There are just three rounds left in the 2021 NRL SuperCoach season but with another highscoring round comes plenty more injury and suspension carnage. More and more teams are being decimated and as frustrating that may be, it shapes up for a fascinating final three rounds to finish the season.  Catfish and Joe Fitz are here again to help work through the Round 23 match-ups and highlight key points arising from teamlists. We also go again with this week's Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Round!  Strategy-wise, we focus on the halfback position - and especially Nathan Cleary - as well as the 2RF position where players are just dropping like flies. We also consider VC/C options and again, strategically where to draw the line on using your final trades.  Timestamps if you want to jump ahead: Injury wrap - 4 min 31s Teamlist Takeaways: 11 min 50s Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Week: 52 min 48s Strategy Chat: 57 min 27s Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! 'Go hard or go home' or running on fumes - Round 22, 2021

The round just gone was certainly up and down for a variety of reasons but we continue to lose SuperCoach-relevant players each week. Plenty of teams are struggling big-time and that shapes up for a fascinating, albeit frustrating, end to the season.  Catfish and Joe Fitz are here again to help work through the Round 22 match-ups and highlight key points arising from teamlists. NRLPhysio was able to join us and deliver some serious insight into what the real concerns are for Nathan Cleary - especially in light of the Reed Mahoney injury - and also Alex Johnston too. We also go again with this week's Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Round!  Strategy-wise, we look in depth at some of the left-field moves that SuperCoaches can make as they make a play for overall glory, or for their head-to-head finals campaigns. We consider some low ownership POD options and discuss the process behind how we identify those PODs for ourselves, look at whether or not it's an option to captain anybody aside from Turbo and we also try work out where the 'line' is for whether or not to pull the trigger on your last or last few trades.  Timestamps if you want to jump ahead: NRLPhysio's injury wrap - 5 min 27s Teamlist Takeaways: 21 min 14s Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Week: 54 min 54s Strategy Chat: 58 min 41s Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! Catfish is here as always to bring you Wackos Whispers this week, plus plenty of Twitter questions (courtesy of Carl McGrath Accounting) involving chat about the second fullback position (Ponga / Paps / Teddy), what to do with Hynes, as well as chat about Holmes, Best, Grant, etc.  Don't forget to get your Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Round entries in! Breaking Olympic and SuperCoach records - Round 21, 2021

Round 20 continued to provide more of what we’ve expected from this year – record-breaking SuperCoach scores, long-term injuries, failed HIAs and some suspensions as well! There’s never a dull moment (for better or for worse) in the NRL this season and thankfully Catfish and Joe Fitz are here to help work through the Round 21 match-ups and highlight key points arising from teamlists. We also go again with this week's Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Round!  Strategy-wise, we look at where the line is in using further trades, who the best CTW replacements for injured players might be, as well as consider whether or not Turbo remains a captain option or not; and if not, who do you pivot to? And some chat about how to maximise your point-scoring potential with the VC loop option.   Timestamps if you want to jump ahead: Injury wrap - 4 min 57s Teamlist Takeaways: 11 min 44s Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Week: 33 min 28s Strategy Chat: 36 min 54s Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! Serious business and the perfect storm - Round 20, 2021

[Apologies for the delay in release - we had some audio problems which required extra editing! Unfortunately meant that we weren't able to include all the recorded content but there's still a lot already!] We thought last week was bad but Rd 20 is a whole new beast with injuries, suspensions and a shortage of trades - the 'perfect storm' if you would. Catfish is joined by former champion Rob Bruns (@nearlythegoat) to preview the Round 20 games and highlight key points arising from teamlists, with a detailed consideration of numerous players and the match-ups. We also go again with this week's Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Round!  Strategy-wise, we consider how to handle "the business end" for both classic and head-to-head formats; some broader advice for those in contention for overall glory from how to use those last few trades, how 'POD' should you go, and other ways to navigate the last few weeks; and some seriously deep planning and mid-round trickery to get the edge on head-to-head opponents as you jostle for a finals spot and also during the finals itself.  Timestamps if you want to jump ahead: Injury wrap - 4 min 10s Teamlist Takeaways: 10 min 33s Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Week: 1 hr 12 min 52s Strategy Chat: 1 hr 17 min 11s Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! Wherein lies the greatest SuperCoach opportunity - Round 19, 2021

We thought this would be the week to really put the pedal to the metal but alas, there are still many issues plaguing plenty of SuperCoach teams due to unexpected restings, ongoing suspensions, late returns from injuries and plenty of other dramas.  Catfish and Joe Fitz preview the Round 19 games and highlight key points arising from teamlists, and there's a long recap of the multitude of Round 18 injuries. We go again with this week's Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Round!  Strategy-wise, we take a seriously deep dive into the numbers of each position, highlighting the players will leave you behind if you don't have them on your team, and identifying some of the lesser-owned players who can make a difference on the run home. In doing this, we essentially work out the "ideal top 17" and work out where the opportunities lie to make up points on the leaders.  Timestamps if you want to jump ahead: Injury wrap - 7 min 37s Teamlist Takeaways: 18 min 38s Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Week: 1 hr 1 min Strategy Chat: 1 hr 5 min 30s Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! Precious trades and whether it's worth pulling the trigger - Round 18, 2021 (feat. Sam 'BanyoBoy' Rohlf)

The byes are in the rear view mirror but we're not quite out of the woods yet with Origin 3 to come and the 'fun' of post-Origin back-up roulette begins for another round.  Joe Fitz and Catfish are joined by one of the podcast's most popular recurring guests, 2017 Champion Sam 'BanyoBoy' Rohlf! We go again with this week's Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Round!  Strategy-wise, we look at whether it's a priority to save our dwindling trades or push ahead for our final teams, how many players we should have (ideally) for our final teams and also the debate the cost of the trade and what's worth pulling the trigger on.  Timestamps if you want to jump ahead: Injury wrap - 4 min 21s Teamlist Takeaways: 9 min 20s Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Week: 44 min 57s Strategy Chat: 49 min 33s Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! Deathriding Turbo and Semi-professional Pub Trivia (feat. Rob Sutherland) - Round 17, 2021

The second bye round is finally upon us and it's every bit as hard as we expected, but even more so with some of the recent hits that many SuperCoaches have copped via TLT and recent injuries, suspensions, the fun never stops!  Joe Fitz and Catfish are joined by special guest, the Daily Telegraph's very own fashionista, Rob Sutherland! We take a typically humorous look at this week, going through the injury wrap, dissect the teamlists and discuss plenty of key players and we go again with this week's Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Round! We also play a game, and Rob gets to take revenge on behalf of Tom Sangster from a few weeks ago.  Strategy-wise, we look at how to really consider Round 17 and 18 together with trades this week, and planning ahead for Round 18 coverage with post-Origin hijinks inevitable (remember Round 14?!). We also think about where the biggest opportunities are for the catching up bulk points, and also how that might affect your trade strategy for the rest of the season.  Timestamps if you want to jump ahead: Injury wrap - 5 min 23s Teamlist Takeaways: 16 min 42s Who Am I?: 41 min 11s Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Week: 49 min 19s Strategy Chat: 53 min 26s Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! "What's the point of bye planning" week - Round 13, 2021

The Champions are back together to help you all make final preparations for the first bye round of 2021 - the first bye round for almost two seasons in fact! No NRLPhysio this week but we provide a brief injury wrap; Joe Fitz almost nailed the perfect prediction of the highest scoring player of the round and the exact score, and we go again with this week's Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Round!  Strategy-wise, we consider whether points on a bye round are worth more than normal rounds, and whether that should influence your trade target preferences for Origin guns or not; we go through the players that are important this round from 'must-have' to 'scary to watch as a non-owner' and the 'risky' options; we also consider numbers and then also work through whether the mega-trade round coming up should influence our trades this week or not.  Timestamps if you want to jump ahead: Injury wrap - 4 min 55s Teamlist Takeaways: 8 min 57s Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Week: 28 min 41s Strategy Chat: 32 min 48s Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! MAGIC captaincy choices and the benefit of HYNESight (ft. 2020 Champion Joe Naddaf)

It was truly a MAGICal round as SuperCoach points flowed freely and the NRL made the numbers of players disappear on the field during the game, and in subsequent games off the field! LOTS to chat about so an extra long episode this week. Massive thanks to Joe for jumping at short notice! Turbo-charging this round but don't let Paps smear your season

Round 7 is shaping up to easily be the toughest week so far this season, whether it be for trade options, captaincy picks, start-sit decisions and planning for the upcoming rounds. As always the Champions are here to help navigate through the analysis paralysis. Aside from the usual injury chat (with NRLPhysio back and offering some seriously valuable insight regarding the likes of Papenhuyzen, Turbo and Taukeiaho), the teamlist takeaways, and the Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Week. Strategy-wise, we debate: how to best manage the fullback position (looking at Turbo, Ponga, Papenhuyzen and Teddy) striking the right balance at hooker at the hooker position (Simpkin, Grant, Cook, etc.) navigating the traps at FRF (including Papali'i vs the second tier options); considering how many players to aim for in Round 13 bye coverage-wise. Round 6 Late Mail Edition feat. Wackos Whispers and your Twitter questions

Catfish is here with the usual Wackos Whispers late mail , your Twitter questions and there's a LOT of Condon/Blore chat this week. Also, is it too late for DFifita, and also defining (or re-defining) why someone is a "Trap" or not. He finishes up by doing a bit of an internal monologue as he works out his trades this week - compare his 'vanilla' options (Riki/Niu out for Condon/BKelly) and the 'big balls' / 'swing for the fences' option (Teddy/Riki for Luai/BKelly). Listen to Catfish try rationalise trading out Teddy and tell him how much of an idiot he is haha! Is Cody a Schu-in or is it Munny time? To'o hard to decide!

The season is heating up already and there continues to be critical trade decisions each week. Round 4 will test plenty of SuperCoaches especially with a number of SuperCoach-relevant players already injured, suspended or named but with legitimate injury clouds hanging over their heads. Perfect! Thankfully we get to chat with NRLPhysio, work through the teamlists and then the Champions consider at length the merits of skipping Schuster (and his $$$) to chase the points on offer with Cody or Munny; we debate the merits behind the audacious thought of selling Teddy, and we talk through the process of potentially selling a player with a negative breakeven depending on your trade plans moving forward.  We also go around again in our new segment sponsored by Swysh (heyswysh.com, or @swysh on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) and pick our Swysh SuperCoach Star of the Round - get involved! SuperCoach 2021 launch is almost here - time to get HYPED!

2021 is here and with a new year, new season, brings new HOPE - hope of a better SuperCoach season at least! The Champions had a rough end to 2020, a rough year all around, but we've come back from the preseason in great shape, we've been training the house down, our beep test results couldn't be better and our skin folds... actually, let's not talk about our skin folds. *ahem* However, we do reflect on the mistakes (and good bits) of 2020's SuperCoach and NRL season, and also consider the big question - is the 2020 SuperCoach season an outlier? We also discuss what our preseason preparation actually entails, and we also unveil a bit of a surprise :)  Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really appreciate them all! The Champions' Advice and Last Word (feat. NRLPhysio, BanyoBoy, VK plus this Bear guy too)

It's the final round, and we are PUMPED! It's going to be an exciting finish, even if our teams are shattered to pieces due to unprecedented levels of injuries, restings and other drama.  Catfish is joined by NRLPhysio for the last time this year with the latest injury news, then does a quick rundown of the key takeaways from this week's teamlists including a discussion on what results might potentially impact subsequent games and encourage more 'resting'. Then lastly, four people who have successfully navigated this final week, share their experience and advice on how to approach and also enjoy this final round! It's a big discussion with Bear, as well as input from BanyoBoy and VK, about this final week and what advice we would offer to Hamish, the current leader, and to the chasers lead mostly by Timmy Williams from the SC Playbook.  Thanks again goes to Supercoach Champion (supercoachchampion.com or Supercoach Championship Rings on Facebook) for supplying us with a 2020 championship ring for the winner of our overall group comp - jump in GROUP code 715121 (not league code) if you're not in the group yet! Coaches can clearly cause chaotic changes

Can this year get any harder? It's like the SuperCoach gods are testing us to see how far we can be stretched before we snap and lose our minds! But in some (slightly sadistic) way, this is fun. Apparently. But yes, players are injured, rested, suspended and leaving the NRL bubble for family reasons - all the fun things we can deal with as SuperCoaches!  Catfish rolls solo this week due to a late withdrawal from Bear and also NRLPhysio, and he brings the Round 18 injury wrap, he unpacks the mess that is the Round 19 teamlists and also goes into some of the ways of dealing with the player restings, being short on players this week and how to use those final trades. He also muses on some of the 'fun' parts of strategy in the final rounds of the overall competition.  Thanks again goes to Supercoach Champion (supercoachchampion.com or Supercoach Championship Rings on Facebook) for supplying us with a 2020 championship ring for the winner of our overall group comp - jump in GROUP code 715121 (not league code) if you're not in the group yet! PBs, PODs and Planning, plus(NRL)Physio too

Catfish and Bear are with you again off the back of practically their best SuperCoach scores ever (definitely a PB for Catfish), and we're primed for a strong finish to what has been a pretty tough year. We preview the teamlists and match-ups, plus it's all about PODs, and also about how to best prepare for the final three rounds trade-wise, team structure-wise and planning for potential restings including what to do this week with Ponga, Papenhuyzen and others!  NRLPhysio also joins us this week after a few weeks and helps deciper some of the injury dramas this week. Lots of Ps this week, that's for sure!  Thanks again goes to Supercoach Champion (supercoachchampion.com or Supercoach Championship Rings on Facebook) for supplying us with a 2020 championship ring for the winner of our overall group comp - jump in GROUP code 715121 (not league code) if you're not in the group yet! Yeo must decide to hold or sell, this could be another $50k question to'o

Some key names are out yet again due to injury, but it's crunch time and these decisions could mean the difference between $50k, $5k, $1k and no cash at all. With four weeks to go, and also the start of head-to-head finals, it's sudden death for some and it's the last roll of the dice for others. Risk it for the biscuit if you're the underdog, or you're further back, or play it safe if you're the favourite, or in the lead? These decisions are fascinating and what we, as former champions, love to think about for those in the mix.  We chat through the teamlists, give a quick injury wrap (no NRLPhysio again this week unfortunately) and talk through the best options to replace some key outs.  Thanks again goes to Supercoach Champion (supercoachchampion.com or Supercoach Championship Rings on Facebook) for supplying us with a 2020 championship ring for the winner of our overall group comp - jump in GROUP code 715121 (not league code) if you're not in the group yet! Oh no, not Taumalolo! Another gun bites the dust

More injury carnage, surprises in the team lists and what important lessons did we learn this week? No NRLPhysio this week to provide his insight into this week's injuries, but we still do a wrap-up, before we dive into the teamlists in detail.  Lastly, we talk about the best options to replace Taumalolo, and also unpack some key lessons from this past round and how that should influence our final team plans with only five rounds to go.  Thanks again goes to Supercoach Champion (supercoachchampion.com or Supercoach Championship Rings on Facebook) for supplying us with a 2020 championship ring for the winner of our overall group comp - jump in GROUP code 715121 (not league code) if you're not in the group yet! Round 15 Late Mail Edition feat. Wackos Whispers and Your Twitter Questions

Sell the top overall points scorer? Harvard GENIUS and other great ideas

It's a monster episode this week! Round 15 is here, the injuries keep mounting, the teamlists are interesting to say the least - but more importantly, the overall race has blown wide upon with a new overall leader and only 75 points separating the top five teams! NRLPhysio is back to wrap-up the Round 14 injury news - there's plenty of things to discuss - and then Catfish and Bear spend a LONG TIME highlighting the key player/s we have confidence in, and don't have confidence in, this week. We also discuss the difference in strategy, mindset and approach to have for those at the pointy end, compared to those who are pushing for a top 100/1000/etc. finish and how that influences your trades. E.g. to sell, or don't sell, David Nofoaluma?! More injuries and suspensions but my SuperCoach team is still doing better than the Broncos

Catfish and Bear help you sift through all the Round 14 teamlists while trying to make heads and tails of weird coach rotations and selections. They wrestle with conundrums like what's going on with the Roosters, the Eels and just how bad are the Queensland teams at the moment? If you listen close enough you can actually pinpoint the second when his (Catfish) heart rips in half too.  NRLPhysio is too busy for us this week but we also wrap up the injuries and suspension wash-up from Round 13 too.  Thanks again goes to Supercoach Champion (supercoachchampion.com or Supercoach Championship Rings on Facebook) for supplying us with a 2020 championship ring for the winner of our overall group comp - jump in GROUP code 715121 (not league code) if you're not in the group yet! Nothing more certain than death, taxes and injuries derailing our SuperCoach teams

Chaos reigns supreme in the Round 13 teamlists, as injuries, suspensions and mysterious droppings cause havoc in almost every single NRL team this week. Our SuperCoach teams are also stretched to breaking point and that means it's MOVING WEEK if you can get your team set up right and nail the usual decisions. NRLPhysio gives us some insight (although a little bit different this week given late info being released on various injuries) and the Champions are here as always to help navigate you through the carnage and we also keep looking ahead to the coming weeks and to the formation of our final teams. Round 12 Late Mail Edition feat. Wackos Whispers and your Twitter Questions answered

It's high drama this week with some massive potential outs - Wackos Whispers are a MUST this week! What's the Matterson? A massive headache, that's what!

Round 12 teamlists have thrown a few spanners in the works as usual, and we're really starting to get into the business end of the shortened 2020 competition. Catfish goes it alone this week after Bear had to look after his family, and there's plenty to think about and work out. Catfish wraps the Round 11 injuries with the assistance of the NRLPhysio; unpacks the teamlists by himself, including some suggestions on how to handle the difficult Ryan Matterson dilemma; and finally lays out some strategy on how he sees most teams looking at the moment and identifies where the likely edge is going to be to keep climbing those rankings (or chasing down that overall leader too!). COVID-19, injury and suspension carnage = the '2020' version of a SuperCoach bye round?

To Teddy or not to Teddy, that is the ($50,000) question (also ft. NRLPhysio)

Teddy broke the hearts of many on Monday night, while causing many over-excited reactions for 23% of SuperCoaches - the great news is that it's really shaken up the overall rankings and the race remains wide open for 2020!  We have a blockbuster episode where Catfish and Bear work through Round 6's teamlists, we bring you NRLPhysio's Round 5 injury wrap-up and we wrestle with life's great conundrums such as "to Teddy, or not to Teddy" and whether you should go for McInnes or Matto as well.  Thanks again goes to Supercoach Champion (supercoachchampion.com or Supercoach Championship Rings on Facebook) for supplying us with a 2020 championship ring for the winner of our overall group comp - jump in GROUP code 715121 (not league code) if you're not in the group yet! Still early days yet but you Best get cracking

Round 5 teamlists have thrown up some real curveballs but at the same time, there are some clear cut BEST trades to be made. But for those who already have one of Best and Grant (or both), we work through the teams and highlight some names that stand out including some real POD picks.  Thanks again goes to Supercoach Champion (supercoachchampion.com or Supercoach Championship Rings on Facebook) for supplying us with a 2020 championship ring for the winner of our overall group comp - jump in GROUP code 715121 (not league code) if you're not in the group yet! The Champion + the 'sound and tech guy'

Bear takes over after Catfish gets demoted to 'sound and tech' duties due to his abysmal performance this week.  Round 4's teamlists throw up a few doozies so we sort through what to do with the likes of Jason Taumalolo, Kotoni Staggs, the Panthers' backrow, whether you should break your team for Teddy/Turbo and other difficult questions like that! THE FOOTY IS BACK!!! Round 3 Late Mail Edition (featuring Wackos Whispers... kind of)

We have RUGBA LEEG to watch tonight!!! This is finally happening! Catfish flies solo in this episode due to internet + audio difficulties with Bear and Wacko Jacko respectively. Apologies for that - technology huh! In any case, we go through Wackos late mail (with his blessing of course), Catfish confirms his five trades (pending any last minute DCEs before kickoff tonight) and talks through his strategy behind NOT selling Cleary now, but still selling Ponga, why he's pivoting away from his precious Dylan Brown, plus talks through what major things we all need to remember before finalising our trades.  Thanks again goes to Supercoach Champion (supercoachchampion.com or Supercoach Championship Rings on Facebook) for supplying us with a 2020 championship ring for the winner of our overall group comp - jump in GROUP code 715121 (not league code) if you're not in the group yet! Merry SuperCoach Christmas (again)! 'Live' reaction to Round 3's TLT, featuring BanyoBoy

Catfish and Bear are joined by 2017 champion Sam 'BanyoBoy' Rohlf for a massive episode. We recorded this just as teamlists dropped at 4pm today, and we went through team by team and reacted as we went along. We talk the winners, the losers and the surprises in each teamlist and cover SO many different players that I couldn't keep track.  After going through all the team, we briefly run through our five trades (for now) and it'll be interesting to see how that changes in the next few days!  Thanks again goes to Supercoach Champion (supercoachchampion.com or Supercoach Championship Rings on Facebook) for supplying us with a 2020 championship ring for the winner of our overall group comp - jump in GROUP code 715121 (not league code) if you're not in the group yet! The day before SuperCoach Christmas V2.0 (feat. NRLPhysio)

It feels like the start of the year, we've just finished the preseason and we're about to set our Round 1 teams. With so long without footy, and with five trades on offer, it almost feels like a chance to 'reset' teams for the start of the 2020 season. Except Catfish is already ranked far behind and stuck with a number of duds in his team. All good though, plenty of time to catch up!  We start an absolute belter of a week, with episodes planned DAILY until the footy actually kicks off on Thursday night! Get hyped! Today's episode features the NRLPhysio himself, Brien Seeney (@nrlphysio on Twitter) who catches us up on all the injury and rehab-related news that we need to know for the season restart. Get the lowdown on David Fifita, Matt Moylan, Jazz Tevaga and more!  Thanks again goes to Supercoach Champion (supercoachchampion.com or Supercoach Championship Rings on Facebook) for supplying us with a 2020 championship ring for the winner of our overall group comp - jump in GROUP code 715121 (not league code) if you're not in the group yet! Keep Calm but #GetHyped - the 4th Self Isolation Episode

In what is hopefully our last self isolation episode, Bear and Catfish spend a long time unpacking the ins and outs of the NRL, and NRL SuperCoach, season restart. We talk through the potential SuperCoach impacts of the:- shortened season; immediate 'super trade week'; non-reduction of overall trades; one-ref system and the '6 again' rule (sorry Raiders fans); lack of byes; setup of the home/away season, including the expected lack of fans; and lack of draw for now. We also talk through our (current) proposed five trades, explaining our intentions behind them and what we are planning to do moving forward.  Finally, we consider how far back you can be to still be a legitimate chance of finishing at the top of the rankings this season. Spoiler alert: it's probably further back than you think!  Thanks again goes to Supercoach Champion (supercoachchampion.com or Supercoach Championship Rings on Facebook) for supplying us with a 2020 championship ring for the winner of our overall group comp - jump in GROUP code 715121 (not league code) if you're not in the group yet! Keep Calm and #StaySane - the 3rd Self Isolation Episode

First, an apology for our prolonged absence (it's been a month!) but we're finally back - even though this episode is a week old and recorded *just* before the big announcement of the new NRL SuperCoach trade set-up - so we don't talk about any of that, and we only discuss broadly the start date of 28 May, the shortened season and what that means for the actual NRL competition and whether this is an 'asterisk' season.  We then share our respective all-time SuperCoach teams, going through each position as we know the NRL SuperCoach team setup now, and also nominating some honourable mentions for each scoring position. A little bit of fun and a somewhat nostalgic walk down memory lane too!  Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really do appreciate them all! And we did mention our Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/NRLSC_Champions - please have a browse and see if you want to get involved!  Follow us on Twitter (@NRLSC_Champions), or individually (@CatfishSC and @GFeeney10) to stay up to date on all things NRL SuperCoach, and to be notified about when the next podcast is out!  --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/supercoach-champions/message

Keep Calm and #StayInside - the 2nd Self Isolation episode

Ha, ha, ha, ha staying inside, staying inside. What, not a Bee Gees fan? What a time to be alive these days as we bring you the second "Self Isolation" episode during this little hiatus. No comments on COVID-19 this week, it's other depressing chat - with some positive - as Catfish and Bear break down our Round 1 teams and what has gone right, wrong and in-between after two weeks of the season.  We celebrate the calls we got right, the ones we got wrong (Catfish breaks down the actual impact of him starting with Damien Cook over Api Koroisau for starters) and the ones that are still "TBC" (i.e. we can't tell after just two weeks).  Catfish ponders some potential POD/anti-POD strategies to try catch up and we also take some wild guesses based off just two rounds of data from 2020 as to who we might see finish up the top in each position (assuming we get some footy back, and there is a shortened season.

Keep Calm and #StayHome - the Self Isolation episodes

And just like that, the season is... on hold? We're still here and we're going to keep coming at you all with (semi) regular episodes even during this 'hiatus'. Giving the people what they want while they're self-isolating (hopefully!!!) or if you're a frontline worker, thank you for your continued hard work and sacrifice in this difficult time!  We talk a few key points from Round 2, and then we talk the suspension of the NRL season, sharing some preliminary thoughts on how it might impact the NRL SuperCoach season once it restarts later in the year (fingers crossed we still get some footy and SuperCoach, even if the season is reduced)! Think injuries being healed, fitness concerns, the lack of byes and what we may end up having to do as the season prepares to restart later in the year.

Keep Calm and Carry On - it's only Round 1

The preseason was long but in a flash, Round 1 has already come and gone! It was a crazy round with a lot going on, but SuperCoaches, let's not overreact. Catfish and Bear are here to tell you all to calm your farm and discuss what your focus should really be in the first two weeks (spoiler: rage trading is NOT one of the things you should be doing), so that you can use your trades as effectively as possible to set up the year. We talk about at all the most popular trade-outs and trade-ins, and we also get the weekly injury update from NRLPhysio himself.

No Half Measures To Winning NRL SuperCoach

Time is running out to finalise preparations for the start of the NRL SuperCoach season! SuperCoach Christmas (a.k.a. the first proper TLT of the year) is almost upon us and there are still SO many question marks this year! Catfish and Bear try make sense of the halves position though - reflecting firstly on how both of us used the halfback and five eighth position so differently yet to great effect in our respective Champion seasons, and then trying to apply some of those takeaways to 2020.  We tackle the Cleary vs Moses conundrum, the impact of Latrell Mitchell on Luke Keary and Cody Walker, as well as diving into some of the other names in the Halfback and Five Eighth positions that you put to us when we did a Twitter callout a while back.

The easy, the hard, and where NRL SuperCoach 2020 will be won (and lost)

Catfish and Bear are back (although this was recorded prior to this weekend's round of trial games) and chat more about the strategy of 2020. We breakdown where we think the most critical position for SuperCoach will be this year, what're the easiest and hardest positions to handle this season and go through our thoughts on some of the key players in those various positions. So if you want to hear about fullbacks, hookers, prop forwards and second row forwards, we talk about plenty of them this week!

NRL SuperCoach Champions - Episode #29

This is it! We're finally here, the last round and we're eight games from crowning a new overall champion and Bear will become "somebody that we used to know" as well. Unfortunately no Bear again this week as he is effectively on standby for the coming of his new bub, so Catfish goes solo for a while to talk about how to best prepare for Round 25 and dealing with the teamlist dramas, and he answers your Twitter questions. He is then joined by the current #1 and #2 ranked SuperCoaches, Dez (coach of 'Turbo Irvo') and Walson (coach of 'RTS Pongas') who are vying to become the 2019 NRL SuperCoach Champion! NRL SuperCoach Champions - Episode #28

It's serious business for NRL SuperCoach, with preliminary finals for head-to-head players and of course, the overall race is looking like another close finish just like last year with a new overall leader. No Bear this week but Catfish is joined by Sam "BanyoBoy" Rohlf (@BanyoBoy), the 2017 overall champion, who shares his experience in the last two rounds and offers some wise words of wisdom to those at the pointy end. As hinted previously, Catfish is also joined by another special guest, a very familiar name and voice in Tom Sangster (!) who clears up once and for all the truth behind whether his captain gets unicorn point updates (spoiler alert: he doesn't), why he lies to us about his trade, captain and reserve options (spoiler alert again: he doesn't), and he also provides us with a look into "the other side" when they prepare to crown the new overall champion (Note: audio wasn't ideal for this section so you may need to turn up the volume from around the 7 minute mark to the 25 minute mark). Catfish and BanyoBoy then discuss a few players of interest in each of the eight games this week, including the likes of Will Hopoate, Ken Maumalo, Blake Ferguson, Connor Watson, Ryan Papenhuyzen, Daniel Tupou, Bronson Xerri, Luciano Leilua and Jackson Ford - players who might be PODs to target or potential start/sit decisions for common players in most of our teams. There are three weeks left in the overall race, while head-to-head games hit sudden death mode! It's truly business time right now.  This week's episode features a chat between Catfish and David "VK" Von Kotze, the 2014 overall champion and we get to hear from his experiences in the last three rounds of his year, plus he offers some valuable advice to those teams at the pointy end.  Bear and Catfish then discuss a few key players like Jason Taumalolo and Jake Trbojevic, plus as always we finish up by answering your questions off Twitter. Just four rounds until the season is over, and head-to-head finals are kicking off this week too. It's all happening and even though plenty of us are low/out of trades, well, it's even more important how we finish using them isn't it!  It's an extra long episode this week as we preview all eight games and look in depth at each time, considering which teams are "done" for the season and could offer easy SuperCoach pickings, and which teams are still having a dig despite their standings on the ladder. We discuss start/sit options from every team and as always, we answer as many of your questions as we can. NRL SuperCoach Champions - Episode #25

Another week down and just five more rounds before we crown a brand new overall champion, and Bear becomes somebody that we used to know, a has-been, just like Catfish. Still plenty of footy, and NRL SuperCoach to get through before then though! This week we both share our experiences in navigating the final weeks of the competition, both as a long-time leader who was almost run down, and as a chaser who was around that #2 and #3 mark leading up to the final round.  We also talk through a number of players like Andrew Fifita, Ryan Matterson, Clint Gutherson, Kotoni Staggs and others, and consider whether they are a 'sell' or not, and finish up by going through your Twitter questions as usual. Another week, another round of NRL SuperCoach, another few trades... wait, what? Out of trades? We're officially at that point in the season where some people have gone all out and used all their trades. So we're still here to ride the Hype Train and also looking at what you should do with Andrew Fifita (if you still have trades left), but we also discuss start/sit decisions and the general process behind it, including breaking down how these decisions may differ depending on your focus (whether overall or head-to-head) and even where you're ranked in overall.  We then spend a good amount of time answering all your questions off Twitter! Catfish and Bear are here as always to help you work through your final teams, looking at the 'template' players as we break down who are the premium, top-shelf options that you have to have for your final team, looking at some POD options in each position but also highlighting the two positions that you should be looking to be POD-ing up if you're trying to chase down a particular team ahead of you... Apologies for the late upload but both Catfish and Bear are sick and rundown this week - however we still wanted to get this out as we break down Round 16 in great detail - the "Must-Haves" (including the players who may make you pee your pants if you don't own them), the "Players of Difference" and finally, a nuff breakdown including the best nuffs to get for this round (if you really have to nuff).  We also discuss the strategy around how to best plan your trades for this week and also for Round 17 - and Catfish breaks down how he changed his original trades after reviewing and planning ahead for which players may get rested, where he will need cover for next week and considering which option will actually give his team more points across Round 16 and 17 as a whole. The NRL SuperCoach Champions Mid-Season Awards - "The Champys"

It's the Representative Round and the NRL - and SuperCoach - competition takes a two week break to enjoy some international rugby league and of course, Game Two of the 2019 State of Origin series. So while there aren't any team lists and lockout is still over a week away, the Champions have decided to do introduce "the Champys" - our cheesy rip-off of the Logies and the Emmys and we're doing a Mid-Season version, and we'll definitely do a post-season awards ceremony as well.  It's all just a bit of fun but listen in as we honour the winners and honourable mentions in a variety of categories ranging from the "Rookie of the Year (So Far)", the "Mid-Season MVP", the "2011 Corey Parker" Award, the "What if?" Awards and others. We'll be back to usual programming next week as we really ramp up preparations for Round 15/16 though once the fallout from rep round, and the Round 15 teamlists, is a bit clearer!   Thank you as always for your kind reviews and ratings, we really do appreciate them all! And we did mention a little plug for our Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/NRLSC_Champions - please have a browse and see if you want to get involved!  Follow us on Twitter (@NRLSC_Champions), or individually (@CatfishSC and @GFeeney10) to stay up to date on all things NRL SuperCoach, and to be notified about when the next podcast is out! NRL SuperCoach Champions - Episode #17

Round 14 is proving quite a conundrum for bye planning and trade purposes - we've got a huge episode this week to help with that though. Bear and Catfish both share their insight in their respective winning seasons; strategically, what were some of the best moves to make as well as what some of the potential traps and pitfalls were during this critical period of the season. We also look in-depth at some Round 16 coverage options - specifically players that may not be impacted by the upcoming representative round (the second Origin game and the Pacific Tests) and other critical questions like, to RTS or not to RTS this week! Of course we have the usual Hype Train and Cheap Cheap segments where we look at players like Bateman, Taukeiaho, Staggs, Aitken, Host and others. We also answer some of your Twitter questions including whether or not it's good or bad to have too many players from one NRL team, and plenty more! As promised, a second episode this week post-Origin! Speaking of Origin... well, how about them Queenslanders, eh? To celebrate an awesome win for the good guys, we got another proud Queenslander on as a special guest this week to rub it in Bear's face, and who better than the 2017 SuperCoach Champion BanyoBoy a.k.a. Sam Rohlf! NRL SuperCoach Champions - Episode #16

Well, what a round huh? The good news is that we survived, and really it's a good opportunity to regroup and reflect a little on the 2019 season. The Champions are here extra early this week to look back at the highs and lows of their respective seasons thus far, as well as looking at the one thing they have each learned about this SuperCoach season that has been different to previous years. We also consider how far behind you can be and still be a realistic (or even an unrealistic) shot of winning this year, and also start looking forward towards Round 16. As you can imagine we won't be recording on Wednesday night because one of either Bear or Catfish would be too devastated (or inebriated) to speak after Game One of the State of Origin! However we plan to do a quick follow-up on Thursday to talk about the wash-up from Origin, the plans we will put in place for our teams to consider who should back up and who won't, and also to answer some of your Twitter questions. Breathe in... breathe out... breathe in... breathe out... round 12 is finally here! The week we've planned and prepared for is finally here, and as always, half of our planning has been thrown out the window in the last 1-2 weeks due to injuries and Origin selections. At least we're all in the same boat, right!  The Hype Train is back and we talk Dylan Walker and Siliva Havili; we sort through the Cheap Cheap options of To'o, Cust and Hiroti (again); and of course we discuss:- how many players is 'enough' for this week; who from Round 12 we consider to be top 17 prospects for the remainder of the season, who is on the cusp or at least a good shout for 18th to 20th men for the run home and who should be on the 'sell' list post-Round 12; and also which of the Origin-playing SuperCoach guns is a trade-out and who is a post-Origin target to bring back in. We also answer more of your Twitter questions and also provide an update on the 'Battle of the Wednesday night podcasts' with the @wenin_rome and @JT250SC from The SC Report hosted by the NRL SuperCoach Talk site. NRL SuperCoach Champions - Episode #7

It's Round 4 and the Champions are here to help keep everyone calm despite all the injuries, players being dropped and all the other drama this week. With such a crazy 'TLT' this week, we've enlisted the services of Dave "VK" Von Kotze, the 2014 overall winner, to give us a hand. The three of us spend time chatting about the importance of Rounds 3-5 for setting up a successful overall season, looking at some of the moves we made during these few rounds and what we prioritised based on how we had started the season. We also chat about the pros and cons of the Vice Captain loophole, how much we think you should tear apart your team for Tom Trbojevic this week or next, discuss our thoughts and potential plans for our own trades and we play "Champ or Chump?" with VK's assistance for one of the most frustrating SuperCoach players of the past few years - Bryce Cartwright a.k.a. the Carty Party! NRL SuperCoach Champions Podcast - Episode #1

Welcome to the first episode of the NRL SuperCoach Champions Podcast, the only NRL SuperCoach podcast where the hosts can actually say that they know firsthand what's required to take home the title of NRL SuperCoach overall champion. Wilfred a.k.a. Catfish (the 2016 overall winner) and Guy a.k.a. Bear (the reigning champ!) will hopefully share their thoughts once a week on everything footy or NRL SuperCoach-related. This week we talk about the plans we have for the podcast, introduce a bit about ourselves as footy fans and as SuperCoaches, and dissect Bear's victorious 2018 season by looking at his overall strategy, some of the risks he took and reflecting on the biggest 'takeaway' from last season that he'll be looking to apply again for the coming 2019 season. We also share a bit of our thoughts on our respective winning seasons and how different our strategies and mindsets can be, yet both of us were still able to come out the other end as winners. Finally we talk in brief about 2019, about a few players that we will 100% have, and won't have, in our respective teams the start Round 1 of the 2019 season. We're just three weeks away from kick-off!  We hope you'll enjoy what you hear, please subscribe and leave us a comment on what you enjoyed (or didn't enjoy), what we can improve on, things that you'd like to hear us discuss in coming episodes, or just to say hi!  Follow us on Twitter (@NRLSC_Champions), or individually (@CatfishSC and @GFeeney10) to stay up to date on all things NRL SuperCoach, and to be notified about when the next podcast is out!  --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/supercoach-champions/message
