For generations in the United States and in most western cultures, we have outsourced 90% of the training of our children. We send our kids to Sunday School so they can be trained in the Bible, we send them to public or Christian schools for their academic training, and we get them at breakfast and dinner to begin and end the day. By now, many of you have seen the documentary on the Duggar family, "Shiny Happy People." As a woman who grew up under spiritual abuse, I am glad to see any form of abuse unearthed and exposed. Rules without relationship injure people, and the legalistic way in which Gothard and others like him control people using the Bible as their excuse to do so is wrong. However, I believe this was the wrong way to expose it. This documentary was salivating at the chance to give Christians stones to throw at people — even those who did not deserve it—and that's exactly what they got. There is a shift happening among Christians and it is occurring in many churches, not just so-called Progressive churches. Many Christians claim that the Bible doesn’t forbid homosexual activity or that its commands aren’t valid for today, but rather that is was simply a reflection of the culture in which the Bible was written. So how can we know God’s heart? &nbsp;We have to know what He thinks. So how do we find out what God thinks? The Christian says to look in the Bible. God’s Word is clear: the Bible tells us that God forbids homosexual acts. Therefore, they are wrong. It’s important to remember that sexual sin is no worse than any other sin—but the question of premeditation makes it a serious one. Christians, we must adhere to God’s Word in every area of our lives. When we stray outside God’s boundaries, we forfeit His blessing. Take their “clean energy” plan (passed in 2019), which effectively eliminates natural gas from retail sales by 2045. The result? Consumers are forced to use less effective and more expensive types of energy to heat their homes. The zealous push to fundamentally transform our state’s use of fossil fuels exports our industry to far away countries with far less regulations on pollution, effectively giving those countries the benefits of our good paying jobs while providing negligible benefits for the environment. Even the New York Post is worried about its impact, saying “Biden’s new Title IX rules deputize teachers to override parents on gender identity.” Team Biden’s proposed new Title IX regulations make it clear: They’re coming for your children. The administration ostensibly drafted the rules to protect gay and transgender students from bullying and harassment, but they do nothing of the sort. “Fake news.” We live in a time that tends toward believing that truth is subjective, and that people can have “their truth” instead of asking, like Pilate, “What is truth?” Sadly, some Christians today seem to be comfortable with the false notion that the Bible is like any other book, and that it, too, contains errors. This is an alarming belief, because it asserts that some of the Bible is true, and some is not. Further, the notion that “There is truth, but we cannot know it” is driving people away from the concept of absolute truth, and that’s a dangerous place for Christians to be. Why? Because truth matters. God’s Word claims to be truth, in keeping with the character and omniscient nature of God. In an age of “fake news,” perhaps, we have simply gotten used to being lied to. This is a very confusing time to shepherd children. Every day, I interact with parents who are struggling to navigate the turbulent waters of a culture in spiritual crisis. In five minutes on social media, you’re likely to see articles sowing seeds of confusion and doubt on anything related to Christian values. No time is this more prevalent than the month of June, which has been set aside to celebrate what God says will bring suffering and sorrow. But is the answer to “gay pride” “straight pride?” God’s Word says pride that focuses on us is never pleasing to God. The Bible teaches us that Satan is a master deceiver. From the time of Eve, the devil has been delighting in misleading human beings. Turns out that like Eve, we are easily deceived. In every generation, there are false teachers whom Satan uses to sow seeds of confusion and draw us away from the truth.
