Podcast 25 - Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

For this episode Lala was joined Robin and Claire, two ex child abuse investigation detectives who are experts in the field of child safeguarding to discuss child sexual exploitation and sexual abuse. Robin Watts is a specialist trainer and you can hire him to deliver training to your organisation This podcast will give you the tools to understand how to protect your own children and children around you. I just listened back to it and I thought that there were a few bits that we missed out so I wanted to add them here.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ If you suspect that a child has been the victim of sexual abuse do not ask leading questions. If it's proven that you asked leading questions it can impact the outcome in court. So don't ask "Did Daddy touch you?" ask "Can you tell me what happened with Daddy?"⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Have professional curiosity. If your gut tells you that something is wrong then hang on to that. Keep that child on your radar. Talk to other professionals in that child's life. Try to connect the dots. If a child is acting out and behaving in ways that make you dislike them then make an even bigger commitment to show up for that child. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Sometimes victims become abusers, but that doesn't take away from their abuse. For example, sometimes gangs do 'line ups' where they will have one girl in a room who has to have sex with a line of boys. We might look at all of those boys as abusers, but a 13 year old boy who is forced to lose his 'virginity' in this way in a room full of his friends is also experiencing trauma. Sometimes female victims of CSE recruit friends for abuse, again, we need to see the bigger picture. They are all victims. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ When talking to victims of CSE we need to be careful about the language we use about the perpetrator. Calling him a disgusting piece of shit and saying he doesn't love you might be true, but the child has been groomed and feels loved. It might make them feel more defensive and less likely to listen. If you are a health care professional look for signs such as frequent hospital attendances. Ensure that you speak to the patient alone, if their boyfriend/girlfriend/alleged relative is always with them, then find a way to see them alone. If you need to report then contact the police or the children's service based in the area where the child lives. Google the child's local authority. Even if you don't have a lot of evidence it is still worth having a chat with a social worker. You can report anonymously to NSPCC too.

Podcast 24 - LGBTQ+ Dating and Myth Busting - with Kenny Ethan Jones and Jamie Windust

In this episode Lala is joined by magazine editor, model and non-binary activist Jamie Windust and trans activist and model Kenny Ethan jones. In this podcast we answer question's sent in by followers around LGBTQ+ dating and relationship issues including: I really want to understand the difference between non-binary and gender neutral and how to refer to non-binary people in language that isn’t genderised. My gay friend doesn’t date bi-sexual people but he was offended when I said that I wouldn’t want to date a bisexual man, can we discuss this? How do you navigate being out and proud with relationships when living in a ghetto area where hate crime is more likely? How can I support my best friend who has transitioned but who has changed their personality so much that I barely recognise their personality and I don’t get them anymore. They are not the person I made friends with but I feel like if I raise it it’ll be seen as being related to their transition? Is it harder for someone who has had gender reassignment surgery to orgasm? Why do LGBTQ relationships move so much faster than cis het relationships? Do you think it’s essential to disclose that you are trans to people who you are dating? My son is in secondary school and he has come out to me as gay, I want to encourage him to live his best proud life but I also don’t want him to become a target for bullying. Is it oppressive if I suggest that he doesn’t tell his school friends yet?

Podcast 19 - A Workplace Harassment Special with specialist Lawyer Deeba syed

In this episode Lala is joined by sexual harassment lawyer Deeba Syed from The Rights Of Women to discuss sexual harassment in the workplace. We answer questions from followers including: Can you report bullying/non-sexual harassment years after you have left the job? My boss has made several comments about me probably getting pregnant in the future during meetings. I feel uncomfortable with this. Do I have the right to be? My senior boss at work said that my Insta posts were too saucy and that men will start assuming that on my days off I get up to a certain kind of thing and that I should avoid bikini pics . What could I have done in this situation? I didn’t report it as I was scared of repercussions. What can you do if it’s a co-worker but if it’s outside of work? What do you do if there is no HR department at work? One guy from work gets handsy (arm around back or hand on knee) with females at the Christmas party every year. Everyone knows about it and even warn newer female employees to watch out for him but no one will do a single thing to stop him or even speak on his behaviour. He has never touched me or actually assaulted anyone else but is there anything I can do to make it stop? Is it sexual harassment if someone asks you out at work? My manager is a narcissist and now someone is leaving because of him. How do I deal with him? What is your advice to people who don’t think that they will be believed? I work in a male dominated environment – they have never been directly nasty with me but I hear the way that they speak about other women. They will talk about women they have slept with in really nasty ways and they often make sexualised comments about female customers. Do I have the right to say something even if it’s not directed at me? How do you deal with little ‘banter’ comments. For example – my manager spilt a bit of water on my foot and said ‘Sorry did I get you wet?” I knew what he meant but I know that if I had complained he would have been able to justify it because technically he did get me wet. How do we deal with things like that?

I left photos on social media of my ex and he asked me to delete them a few times. But he’s a hypocrite because he’s been liking facebook pictures of people he’s slept with and he’s slept with a lot of people! I don’t even care about his past but his paranoia about mine is making me suspicious. He can’t seem to get his head around the fact that I don’t want my my exes back. My friend is quite overweight and she constantly has a very bad odour down there! Other friends that have known her longer than me say that she has smelt like that since school. Whyyy! What do I do?! • My long term partner often casually refers to women as slags / dirty slags and tarts. It is really putting me off him and making me lose respect for him. Are these differences in outlook deal breakers? Will it just end up driving us apart? • What do you do if your man won’t have sex with you? It kills my confidence like you wouldn’t believe. I have tried everything, from sexy lingerie to pretending I don’t care. We’ve been together for 14 months and I am going mad with frustration • I started talking to a guy on tinder, got on really well. After 48 hours of talking I decided I had to meet him and things went really well. The sex was intense and passionate and we told each other we loved each other. It feels 100% right. But can you literally fall in love with someone after 7 days of messages and calls and less than 48 hours in their actual company!? •What is the best way to deal with slut shaming on how you dress or act? • Would you stay friends with someone who was sleeping with a married man? Should a man always pay on the first date and if he doesn’t does that mean he’s not interested? I’ve been seeing a guy for a few weeks now, he’s REALLY nice, he’s literally everything I’m looking for in a man, the nicest guy I’ve ever met. He told me the other day that he’s not ready for a relationship right now but wants to continue seeing me and getting to know me and hopes it will blossom into a relationship in the future. I’m confused, do you think I should keep seeing him? How can you tell a man that he doesn’t make you cum without hurting his feelings? Where are all the men? Where is a good place to meet single men outside of dating apps? My boyfriend wanks every morning while I’m in bed, even after sex the night before. Is this normal? I went on a date with a guy, it went well. We spoke again after the date about meeting up and he said ‘It’s my turn to buy the round next time” and now he just won’t reply. Why is he doing this? Are there any men out there who don’t get violent when they are stressed? This podcast is brought to you in collaboration with themed pleasure packages.
