EP # 122 | Spiritual Warfare

In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell Harrison and Virgil “Omaha” Walker address what, arguably, is among the most misunderstood doctrines within the Protestant evangelism: spiritual warfare. What is spiritual warfare, biblically, and what practical steps can believers in Jesus Christ take to engage in that warfare victoriously? Listen as Darrell and Virgil walk you through a biblical understanding of “Spiritual Warfare.” Truth or Territory: A Biblical Approach to Spiritual Warfare by Jim Osman Support To support the podcast, please click here or copy/paste the following link into your browser - https://justthinking.me/support/ Disclaimer © Darrell B. EP # 121 | A Biblical Theology of Suffering

According to 1 Thessalonians 5:18, believers in Jesus Christ are to “give thanks in everything, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” But does ‘everything’ include giving thanks to God when we suffer? Listen as Darrell Harrison and Virgil “Omaha” Walker look to Scripture for answers to that crucial question. “What God Ordains Is Always Good” – hymn arrangement by Josh Bauder (YouTube video) “We Complain Because We Forget” – blog article by Steven Lee (Desiring God) “The Gift of Suffering” – white paper by William H. Disclaimer: This episode of the Just Thinking podcast contains material that may not be suitable for young children. Parental discretion is strongly advised. Indwelling sin. It is a reality that professing believers in Jesus Christ must deal with until the day we die or Christ returns to take us home to heaven. But how are we to deal biblically with that reality? How can we, as possessors of a new nature in Christ, navigate the tension between being regenerate while having remaining sin within us? EP # 119 | Cultural Denominationalism

Does the world have anything to offer the Church today? It appears that some protestant churches, denominations - and their leaders - seem to think so. But to what end? What's the payoff for them? Are there to be no distinctions between the kingdom of darkness (the world) and the kingdom of Light (the Church) in our churches and denominations? Those questions, and others, are the focus of Darrell Harrison and Virgil "Omaha" Walker in this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, titled "Cultural Denominationalism." EP # 118 | A Biblical Response to Perfectionism

Behavioral perfectionism – not to be confused with the doctrine sometimes referred to as Christian perfectionism or sinless perfection – is a sin many professing Christians struggle with (yes, it is a sin). But not only is the individual perfectionist affected by their behavior, so are those who are closest to them. In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell Harrison and Virgil “Omaha” Walker leverage their experience as biblical counselors to walk you through what the Word of God, and other trusted biblical sources, have to say about dealing biblically with the issue of behavioral perfectionism toward the goal of gaining victory over it. EP # 117 | Evangelical Deconstructionism

In Colossians 2:8, the apostle Paul exhorts believers to not be taken captive through philosophies and deceptions that are rooted in the traditions of men. Deconstruction, a philosophy that has its origins in Marxism, is one of those deceptions. And yet, there are those within evangelicalism today who are actively promoting and advocating that deconstruction is good and virtuous for the church. In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, hosts Darrell Harrison and Virgil ‘Omaha’ Walker make it clear that they do not concur with that view. Listen as they “turn pages” and discuss what God’s Word has to say about “Evangelical Deconstructionism.” That’s the title of episode 117 of the Just Thinking podcast.   Support To support the podcast, please click here or copy/paste the following link into your browser - https://justthinking.me/support/ Disclaimer © Darrell B. EP # 113 | Why Are You Afraid?

COVID-19, mask mandates, vaccine passports, inflation, job security - these realities and more have many professing Christians today locked in the throes of fear and anxiety about the future. To be sure, not all fear and anxiety Christians experience is sinful, and yet there are times when the fear and anxiety we feel is, in fact, not in keeping with how God would have His people respond. How do you recognize and respond rightly to sinful fear and anxiety? What’s the remedy for overcoming it? Darrell Harrison and Virgil Walker consider those crucial questions through the lens of the Word of God in this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, titled “Why Are You Afraid?” Related Links - please visit https://justthinking.me/113   Support To support the podcast, please click here or copy/paste the following link into your browser - https://justthinking.me/support/ Disclaimer © Darrell B. EP # 112 | Has God Really Said?

The topic of 'women preachers' and 'women pastors' has been hotly debated for decades within the evangelical church. Categories such as "complementarian" and "egalitarian" have been created to describe the two primary camps that seem increasingly divided over this subject. However, in this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell Harrison and Virgil "Omaha" Walker assert that this topic is not a matter of "ism's," but is a simple question of submission and obedience to the clear teachings of the Word of God. Listen as they look to the Scriptures to answer the age-old question, "Has God Really Said?" Does the Bible Permit a Woman to Preach? - John MacArthur, Grace to You What Does the Bible Say About Women Pastors? - Got Questions? "Ask Ligonier" with Pastor H.B. EP # 111 | Activist Theology

The #LeaveLOUD movement is urging black evangelical Christians to exit white evangelical spaces, primarily on the basis that white evangelical Christians don't recognize or celebrate black evangelical Christians for who they are. But is such a movement biblical? On this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell Harrison and Virgil 'Omaha' Walker take a look at #LeaveLOUD through the broader lens of "activist theology," and Christians who see an activist gospel as a means to achieve a particular end within the Church. The road is narrow yet a wide path is making itself known through the adoption of analytical tools as both a means of understating and interpreting Scripture. EP # 109 | Theory vs. Theology

The evangelical church is at a crossroads. It’s not the first time. Worldly philosophies, such as Critical Race Theory and the ‘social gospel’ are distracting the church from its fundamental mission: proclaiming the evangel—the good news—of salvation in Jesus Christ to unbelieving sinners. In this ‘freestyle’ episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell Harrison and Virgil “Omaha” Walker look to Scripture as they consider the issue of which road the church will take: theory or theology.   Support To support the podcast, please click here or copy/paste the following link into your browser - https://justthinking.me/support/ Disclaimer © Darrell B. EP # 108 | Critical Race Theory

Critical Race Theory, or CRT for short, is, for many professing evangelicals today, a philosophy that is steeped in confusion and ambiguity. That is by design. EP # 106 | A Biblical Exposition of Unity

Subsequent to the presidential election held in the United States on November 3, 2020, many evangelical leaders, primarily on social media, began exhorting Christians to come together in a spirit of unity around the presumed incoming administration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Notwithstanding that, officially, the outcome of the aforementioned contest had yet to be determined, a fundamental question remains: What kind of unity is acceptable to the church and, more importantly, to God? In their final episode of the 2020 podcast season, Darrell Harrison and Virgil "Omaha" Walker answer that question expositionally—and unequivocally—from Scripture.    Resources Related episodes EP # 047 | Where is Your Hope? EP # 104 | Breonna Taylor and the Gospel

In the wake of the killing of Breonna Taylor, a 26-year old black woman, by Louisville, KY police officers on March 13, 2020—and the subsequent decision by a grand jury to not charge the officers with murder—many people, including many professing Christians, are nevertheless calling for “justice” for Breonna Taylor. But was “justice” not done? More importantly, what is “justice” to begin with? What should “justice” actually look like in society? Is “justice” primarily a matter of subjective standards or of objective truth? Listen as Darrell Harrison and Virgil (“Omaha”) Walker bring some hard biblical truths to the issue of “justice” in this special episode of the Just Thinking podcast.   Resources Related episodes EP # 045 | Social Justice & the Gospel EP # 062 | A Biblical Theology of Socialism Related blog articles Equity or Equality? by Darrell B. EP # 100 | A Biblical Exposition of “White Culture”

Recently, the National Museum of African American History & Culture (NMAAHC) posted on its website an infographic titled “Aspects & Assumptions of Whiteness & White Culture in the United States.” The infographic, which has since been removed from the NMAAHC website, outlined 14 areas that, in the opinion of the NMAAHC, are rooted in “whiteness” and “white culture.” In this special episode of the Just Thinking Podcast, Darrell Harrison and Virgil “Omaha” Walker conduct an in-depth analysis of the infographic through the lens of Scripture. EP # 099 | Assurance of Salvation

To be a Christian is, by definition, to possess salvation and all that it entails (forgiveness of sin, adoption as children of God, eternal reward in heaven, and much more). EP # 096 | Christian Contentment

Adversity has a way of revealing our true selves, especially during times of trial that seem to last for a prolonged period of time. It is during those times that Christians must guard against allowing the sin of discontentment to take root in our hearts. In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell and “Omaha” (Virgil) discuss what God’s Word has to say about how Christians can be genuinely content in whatever circumstances we find ourselves. EP # 095 | Pornography in the Church

The statistics tell the story — pornography is a destroyer. It destroys marriages, families, careers, and reputations. In other words, pornography destroys lives. Christians are not immune to this scourge. And yet pornography remains one of the least-addressed issues in the church today. In one of the most crucial episodes ever produced by the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell and Virgil (“Omaha”) look to Scripture for answers to why pornography is such a problem for so many — including within the church — and how the gospel of Christ can lead to freedom from its unmerciful enslavement. “Because of technical difficulties related to increased Internet usage as a result of COVID-19 stay-at-home orders, you may notice intermittent instances of audio interference. EP # 093 | A Biblical Theology of the Role of Government

With the U.S. presidential elections only months away, many Christians, particularly young believers, are supporting candidates who endorse a socialist view of government. More specifically, the idea that it is the role of government to promote social equality. But is such a view of government biblical? In this extended episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell Harrison and Virgil “Omaha” Walker take an in-depth look into the Scriptures–and history–to answer that question.   Resources Related episodes * EP # 039 | Christian Socialism * EP # 062 | A Biblical Theology of Socialism * EP # 082 | A Socialist Savior Related blog articles * N/A Related external media * “Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen” (Alpha History) * “The Souls of Poor Folk” (Poor People’s Campaign) Support To support the podcast, please click here or copy/paste the following link into your browser - https://justthinking.me/support/ Disclaimer © Darrell B. EP # 087 | Politics and the Black Church

As Christians, to what degree should one’s theology shape or influence his or her view of politics? In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell and “Omaha” (Virgil) discuss that question in light of a comment made recently on social media by Bishop Paul S. Morton. Morton, a black man, urged black Christians who are considering supporting Democrat candidate Pete Buttigieg a biological male who is “married” to a biological male, for president in 2020, to stand on the biblical definition of marriage, and why Morton paid a price for making such a comment. EP # 086 | Playing God

EP # 084 | When Forgiveness Isn’t Woke Enough

Amber Guyer, a 31-year old white female and former Dallas, Texas police officer, was recently convicted of murder in the shooting death of 26-year old Botham Jean, a black man. Guyer was subsequently sentenced to ten years in prison. During the penalty phase of Guyer’s trial, Botham Jean’s younger brother, Brandt, shocked the courtroom–and the world–by verbally forgiving Guyer and hugging her (to the tears of many in the courtroom.) But for many people, including some who profess to be Christian, Brandt Jean’s offer of forgiveness was not a gesture to be lauded or applauded. EP # 079 | One Church, One Body

But as much as it has been talked about in recent years evangelicals, especially in America, continue to be divided, particularly along ethnic lines. EP # 078 | Black Lives Matter and Abortion

A recent New York Times article is promoting the decades-long narrative that high abortion rates among black women are the direct result of socio-economic conditions that give those women no choice but to abort their unborn children. EP # 077 | A Nuanced Gospel?

But what does the word “nuance” mean and how does that meaning influence and impact us as evangelicals in terms of how we are to understand and interpret the Word of God? EP # 074 | An Unnecessary Debate

A debate is brewing, among Christians of various denominational persuasions, on the question of whether women should be ordained as pastors and elders in the church. It is a debate that is dividing family members, friends, and churches. But should there even be a debate at all? Listen as Darrell and Virgil make the case that this debate is an entirely unnecessary one, as Scripture has clearly spoken on the issue.  Key texts: 1 Timothy 2:11-14; Genesis 1:27, 3:16, 4:7; Psalm 119:89; 1 Thessalonians 2:13.  Resources Related episodes * N/A Related blog articles * N/A Related external media * N/A Support To support the podcast, please click here or copy/paste the following link into your browser - https://justthinking.me/support/ Disclaimer © Darrell B. EP # 072 | The Equality Act of 2019 (Part 2)

The Equality Act of 2019 is one of the most dangerous pieces of legislation to be introduced in Congress in our lifetime. It is dangerous because it will force Christians, under threat of law, to be accommodating of subjective choices regarding sexual orientation and gender identity. And yet many Americans, as well as many Christians, seem to not care. EP # 068 | Singles, Dating and Marriage

For countless Christians who are single, being single is more of a dilemma than a calling. EP # 066 | The Resurrection of Jesus

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is unarguably the most central pillar in terms of Christian orthodoxy. For centuries, the Church has had to defend this doctrine against numerous heretical attacks that have come against it. And yet, today, many professing believers fail to grasp the temporal and eternal significance of this momentous event in their personal lives. EP # 065 | Capitalism

It’s clear, the battle lines have been drawn from the left and the right.  Those on the left believe Socialism is the right path forward.  Those on the right disagree holding to the Capitalism that has made the country prosperous.  The question that needs to be asked has little to do with one’s political affiliation. Instead we should be asking, “What does the Bible have to say about economics?  Has God outlined through the Scriptures the economic path forward for those who believe in Christ?” Listen to this episode as Virgil examines these questions and much more.  Let’s put Capitalism through the lens of a Biblical Worldview. EP # 064 | Worldliness in the Church

The late Dr. R.C. And yet, that separation doesn’t come easy as to live in this world is a constant struggle to not be of this world. EP # 062 | A Biblical Theology of Socialism

To say that socialism is gaining in popularity in the United States would an understatement. But to say the same about the Church is both disheartening and concerning. EP # 061 | Born-Alive Act

Recently, the United States Senate failed to pass the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act” or what is commonly known as the “Born-Alive Act”. The legislation, was aimed at protecting the lives of babies who were born alive after surviving an attempted abortion. Notwithstanding the role of elected politicians in failing to pass what appears to most people be the common-sense thing to do, what responsibility, if any, do Christians have in this outcome? EP # 058 | SBTS Report on Racism & Slavery

Slavery. It’s the sin some evangelical Christians just can’t – or won’t – let go of. In this episode of the Just Thinking broadcast, Darrell and Virgil discuss the ‘Report on Racism & Slavery in the History of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary’ recently released by the under the signature of its president Dr. R. Albert Mohler. In the report, Dr. Mohler acknowledges, confesses, and repents of the complicity of SBTS in fostering a culture of racism in America. EP # 055 | The Minds of Black Folk

History was almost made recently in the race for governor of Georgia, where the Democrat party nominee Stacey Abrams, a black female, came within less than three percentage points of defeating Republican nominee Brian Kemp, a white male. Apparently, Abrams’ defeat did not set well with many black Democrats, especially when it was revealed that 11 percent of black males supported Kemp. But why would such a thing be seen as problematic to black people? Do they not have the right to vote for the candidate(s) of their choosing?   This week’s episode of the Just Thinking broadcast concludes our look at the Ligonier Ministries 2018 ‘State of Theology’ survey, as Darrell and “Omaha” (Virgil) unpack Statement 30 of the survey, “Religious belief is a matter of personal opinion; it is not about objective truth.” Listen in as the brothers open the Word of God and discuss why the 60 percent who affirmed this statement are missing the larger question, one that Pontius Pilate asked thousands of years ago. EP # 053 | Ligonier: The State of Theology (Part 3)

This week’s episode of the Just Thinking podcast marks the the third in a series of in which Darrell and Omaha (Virgil) take an in-depth look at the 2018 Ligonier Ministries ‘State of Theology’ survey. Having tackled Statements 6 and 11 of the survey, this episode finds the brothers turning their attention – and the gospel – to Statement 3, in which 52 percent of professing evangelicals agreed that, “God accepts worship of all religions, including Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.” Resources Related episodes * EP # 051 | Ligonier: The State of Theology (Part 1) * EP # 052 | Ligonier: The State of Theology (Part 2) * EP # 054 | Ligonier: The State of Theology (Part 4) Related blog articles * N/A Related external media * The State of Theology (Ligonier Ministries) Support To support the podcast, please click here or copy/paste the following link into your browser - https://justthinking.me/support/ Disclaimer © Darrell B.   In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell and Omaha (Virgil Walker) continue their walkthrough of the 2018 State of Theology survey conducted by Ligonier Ministries and Lifeway Research, taking a look at Statement #11, in which 52% of survey respondents agreed that, “Everyone sins a little, but most people are good by nature.” Listen in as the brothers take a look at this statement through the lens of the gospel, and discuss why that 52 percent are wrong. EP # 051 | Ligonier: The State of Theology (Part 1)

Recently, Ligonier Ministries released its 2018 ‘State of Theology’ survey, which it conducted in partnership with Lifeway Research (an initial survey was conducted in 2016). To describe the results of the survey as a disheartening reflection of the condition of the evangelical church in America today would be a gross understatement. So disheartening, in fact, that Darrell and ‘Omaha’ (Virgil Walker) have decided to dedicate the next several episode of the Just Thinking broadcast to a discussion of the responses contained in the survey. Listen in as the brothers share their initial thoughts on what the survey says many Americans believe about the deity and nature of Jesus Christ. EP # 050 | Gosnell Movie

This week Omaha (Virgil Walker) fly solo. As he examine the atrocities committed by Kermit Gosnell and the movie that bears his name, we recognize a complete media blackout continues. The story of “America’s Biggest Serial Killer” seems to be completely silenced again as a Top 10 movie is being taken down from major screens around the country. Why is this happening? What would cause a profitable movie to get silence? Listen, as we will examine these issues through the lens of a Biblical Worldview to see what Scripture has to say about what’s happening today. EP # 049 | Tribalism & the Imago Dei

Recording artist and entrepreneur Kanye West made news – again – recently when he met with President Donald Trump at the White House. But some are asking: why would this make news to begin with? Good question. Why is it considered taboo in some ethnic circles for a black person, like West, to independently form and express political views that are different from other black people, many of whom believe he is obligated to represent because of his ethnicity? Another good question. Listen as Darrell and ‘Omaha’ (Virgil Walker) deal with these and other questions through the lens of Scripture. Key texts: Gen. 1:27; 1 Cor. 12:18, 24-27 (also Jn. 4:40-42, 6:66-69). EP # 048 | The Church

Evangelical social justicians continue to preach that ‘the church should resemble the communities it serves.’ Sounds like a harmless enough idea, but the question is, is it biblical? EP # 047 | Where is Your Hope?

It has been said that politics is a dirty business. That truism was put to the test recently, as things turned ugly on Capitol Hill during Senate hearings held amid sexual abuse allegations made against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh by Christine Blasey Ford. Evangelical Christians have a lot riding on a Kavanaugh confirmation to the Supreme Court, particularly as it relates to the issue of abortion. But what if Kavanaugh is not confirmed? What then? Listen as Darrell and Omaha (Virgil) remind Christians where – and in whom – their hope should rest in a world in which leaders that are in the highest political positions are affected by sin and evil. EP # 046 | Anne Hathaway: The $35M SJW

Recently, actress Anne Hathaway, 35, who, purportedly, is worth upwards of $35M, accepted the National Ally for Equality award from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). But in giving her acceptance speech, Hathaway presented a visage of love and equality that should cause all Christians everywhere to stop and think about what love and equality actually are in reality. In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell and Omaha (Virgil Walker) do just that, as they discuss Hathaway’s subjective, humanistic, and new-age worldview through the objective lens of the truth of Scripture. EP # 044 | Police Violence

In yet another incident of violence involving police and an ethnic minority, Dallas, TX police officer Amber Guyger, has been charged with manslaughter for shooting and killing Mr. Botham Jean. Reportedly, Officer Guyger mistook Mr. Jean’s apartment for her own and shot him when he opened the door to his own residence. In this episode of the Just Thinking broadcast, Darrell and ‘Omaha’ (Virgil Walker) discuss the concerning circumstances surrounding this incident, while pointing listeners to the truth of the gospel and what is fundamentally important for us, as Christians, to remember in light of this situation: that even police officers are sinners, as are we all, and that our desire for justice must be rooted in God’s standard of righteousness, and not in our ethnicity. EP # 043 | Aretha Franklin Eulogy

The funeral for the “Queen of Soul”, Aretha Franklin, who died on August 16, 2018, was held on August 31, 2018. The Rev. Jasper Williams, pastor in Atlanta, performed the eulogy. In reflecting on Aretha Franklin’s legacy, Williams who, in 1984, eulogized Franklin’s father, Rev. C.L. Franklin, made some rather pointed and blunt comments about the state of the “black community” in America today. In this episode of the Just Thinking broadcast, Darrell and ‘Omaha’ (Virgil) unpack Williams’ “controversial” remarks and discuss why many within the so-called “black community” are attacking him for being so candid about what he sees as problems facing blacks in America today. This is an expanded, “double-album” episode in which the aforementioned brothers take the time to exposit each of the 10 “audit statements” one-by-one, and apply gospel-centered context to each statement in the spirit of “speaking the truth in love” (Eph. 4:15). EP # 041 | The Narrow Road (Part 1)

It seems increasing numbers of so-called ‘evangelical’ Christian ministries are buying into a socio-cultural paradigm of Christianity, particularly as it relates to “affirming” professing believers who identify as “same-sex attracted”. One of the ways they do this is by focusing on virtues like ‘community’, ‘unity’, and ‘diversity’. So much so that a ministry based in the United Kingdom has gone as far as encouraging churches to audit themselves to ensure they are being “biblically inclusive”, especially of those who are LGBTQ. Listen in as Darrell and ‘Omaha’ (Virgil) discuss their concerns about a “gospel” that embraces a type of salvation without sanctification. EP # 039 | Christian Socialism

On June 26, 2018, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, an avowed Democratic Socialist and active member of the Democratic Socialists of America, defeated incumbent Democrat Joe Crawley in New York City’s 14th District Congressional election. Since then, Ocasio-Cortez has become the new face of socialism in America, attracting support from all walks of life, particularly from Millennials. In this episode of the Just Thinking broadcast, Darrell and Virgil (Omaha) dig deeper into what socialism is (and isn’t), its various types and, more importantly, how the message being propagated by people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is being embraced by many today within the evangelical church.   A group of evangelical Christians has come together under the banner ‘Call To Pause’ to argue against the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court. EP # 035 | Toward a Pure Church

On July 2, 2018, Trinity Church of Portland (Oregon) released a statement announcing the removal of Dr. Art Azurdia from his positions as an elder and Senior Minister of Word and Worship at Trinity Church. Please note that this is an expanded episode of the podcast and that Darrell is flying solo, as his trusty sidekick and wingman ‘Omaha’ (Virgil Walker) is away attending to other priorities over the next couple of weeks.   Immigration. It’s today’s “issue du jour” both in the world and in the church. Constant media reports of children being forcibly separated from their families at the border between the United States and Mexico have people around the world, including many Christians, angry and upset about America’s immigration policy. But is it possible to set aside emotions and consider what the Scriptures objectively say about this issue? Listen as Darrell and Virgil attempt to find out what, if anything, the gospel has to say about this issue. EP # 032 | False Teachers

Since the earliest days of Christianity, false doctrine has been a threat to the gospel of Christ and to His church. This is no less true today as false teachers, from within and without the church, continue to mislead countless souls by deliberately misinterpreting and misconstruing the Scriptures in accordance with their own sinful agendas. How are we, as Christians, to respond to false teachers and the false doctrines they espouse? How can followers of Christ know for certain what is true and what is false? Listen as Darrell and ‘Omaha’ (Virgil) look to God’s word for answers to these and other questions concerning false teachers. EP # 031 | Suicide and the Gospel

Recently, celebrities Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain, two people who seemingly had it all: wealth, notoriety, and popularity, committed suicide. When a person commits suicide, particularly someone who is well known, invariably the question is asked: Why? Notwithstanding the specific reasons why either Spade or Bourdain would decide to take their life, the gospel has an answer to that question. EP # 030 | Abortion

On May 25, 2018, citizens of the Republic of Ireland, in an effort to achieve a “modern Constitution for a modern country”, according to its Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, voted to repeal the 8th Amendment to its Constitution which, since 1983, had outlawed abortion except in cases where the life of the mother is at risk. When the results of the referendum were announced, supporters of the repeal literally celebrated the outcome. Many would say abortion is a solely “women’s issue”. Needless to say, Darrell and Virgil adamantly disagree. Listen as these brothers apply the gospel to this issue and discuss why Ireland legalizing the murder of God’s unborn image bearers makes it a nation more analogous to Old Testament Israel than a “modern” country. EP # 029 | Barna Study on Evangelism

The Barna Group recently published a follow-up to a study originally conducted in 1993 about how Christians view their personal responsibility in evangelism and sharing the gospel with others, and the results are disheartening, to say the least. So disheartening, in fact, that Darrell and Virgil considered the study results worth addressing on an episode of the Just Thinking podcast. EP # 028 | The Fallacy of “Gun Control”

On May 18, 2018, 17-year old Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a former student at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas, allegedly used a firearm to murder 10 of his classmates and injure 10 others. Predictably, calls from special-interest groups, politicians, and others for tighter “gun control” laws immediately sprang up on social media and in the mainstream media. But are guns actually the problem? Conversely, are more laws the solution? In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell and Virgil tackle these questions through the lens of the gospel and discuss why the real problem dates back to long before guns were ever invented. EP # 027 | Majoring in the Minors

In this episode of Just Thinking, Darrell and Virgil give listeners to the podcast two for one. First, the brothers take a look-see at what the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is doing to promote social justice within its organization, including achieving what its president, Steve Gaines, refers to as a “maximum percentage” of ethnic diversity on the various committees within the group. And if that wasn’t enough SJWism for you, the brothers discuss a move by the University of Connecticut – UConn – to start offering a minor in Social Justice beginning in the fall of 2018. EP # 026 | Ideological Tribalism

Why would a 7-word tweet by Kanye West, a black man, be so upsetting to so many black people? And why do black people make other black people pay a price for thinking outside of what is considered to be culturally normative? To answer these questions, Darrell and Virgil take you back to Genesis 1 and discuss, with a little help from Friedrich Nietzsche (of all people), how the ability to use one’s mind and think for one’s self is an evidence of what it means that we are individually and uniquely created in the “image of God”. EP # 025 | Artificial Diversity

Much is being made today of local church congregations becoming more ethnically diverse, and that ‘white supremacy’ is primarily the reason why “white churches” aren’t more ethnically diverse than they are. But Christ promised that His kingdom would be composed of believers from “every tribe, tongue, and nation”, so what’s really driving this effort to movement to make white congregations less white? EP # 023 | Sin by Proxy

In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell and Virgil address a concerning development among Christian social justice advocates – the adoption of the doctrine of “sin by proxy.” Sin by Proxy is a term Darrell coined (listen to episode 23) to define the theology of social justice Christians who blame current generations of white people for sins their ancestors may or may not have committed against black people in America in previous decades and centuries, and are demanding they repent and atone for those sins today. Listen in as Darrell and Virgil apply the Word of God, starting in the book of Genesis, to this unbiblical idea of Sin by Proxy. EP # 022 | MLK 50 Conference

The MLK50 Conference held on April 3-4, 2018 by the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) has been controversial, to say the least. Some Christians saw the conference as unifying and necessary, whereas others saw it as divisive and unproductive. The MLK50 Conference is a topic that Darrell and Virgil intended to not discuss on the Just Thinking podcast but were urged to by many who reached out to them on social media after having heard some of the messages that were emanating from that event. Having live-streamed portions of the conference themselves, Darrell and Virgil use this episode as an opportunity to convey their own thoughts on how, in their opinion, the conference misses the mark of the gospel. EP # 019 | “There’s No Scientific Basis for Race” (Part 1)

It is a sad state of affairs when a secular publication conveys a universal truth that many Christians have, and continue to, refuse to accept. Namely, that ‘race’ is a myth. In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell and Virgil discuss at length, with a little help from that renown theologian Frederick Douglass, a National Geographic article that leverages objective scientific evidence to completely obliterate – perhaps to the consternation of many so-called ‘race workers’ and ‘social justice warriors’ – the false idea of ‘race’. EP # 018 | A Quiet Exodus or a Misguided Expectation

In this current milieu of social justice and racial reconciliation, the evangelical church in America is expected to be all things to all people. This is particularly the case regarding the expectation of churches composed of primarily of white congregants to pursue ethnic congregational diversity solely for the sake of ethnic diversity. But is that truly the church’s mission? In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell and Virgil discuss the reported “quiet exodus” of black Christians from white evangelical churches; and why such departures are often the result of misguided – and unbiblical – expectations of the church. EP # 016 | How to Be a Better White Person

The current socio-cultural milieu is such that ‘race’ is increasingly becoming a factor and variable in almost every aspect of our existence as human beings. ‘Racial reconciliation’ is now the cause du jour among many individual Christians and churches, so much so that opinions are rampant as to the best approach to bring black people and white people together. EP # 015 | A Biblical Theology of Soul Food

In this episode of Just Thinking, Darrell and Virgil address what many people might consider one of the most obscure topics in the history of Christian podcasting. Namely, the relationship between the gospel and ‘soul food’. No, we’re not kidding. Listen as these two brothers carefully examine the Old and New Testament in an effort to exposit the theological connections to a socio-cultural tradition which, as Darrell and Virgil recently found out, is something many people are extremely passionate about. EP # 014 | Is the gospel still powerful today?

In Romans 1:16, the apostle Paul describes the gospel as “the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes.” But is that same gospel still powerful today? In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell and Virgil discuss the story of Joe Bednarsky Jr., a former high-ranking member of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), and how the supernatural power of the gospel of Christ transformed his heart of stone, one that was filled to the depths with violence and hatred toward black people, into “a heart of flesh” (Eze. 36:26-27).   What do Karl Marx and learning your ABCs have in common? You might be surprised. In this episode of ‘Just Thinking’, Darrell and Virgil discuss the growing influence of cultural Marxism in public education or, perhaps more accurately, public indoctrination, by looking at what’s transpiring in one school district in Edina, Minnesota, where students were required to participate in such “racially conscious” assignments the ‘Melanin Project’ and where “racial equity” is seemingly more important than academics. EP # 012 | “Born of the Spirit”

Many Christians, and non-Christians alike, are confused about what the gospel actually is and what it means to be ‘born-again’. Is everyone a “child of God” merely by virtue of being born physically? The new birth is an eternally important subject about which no one can afford to be wrong. In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, Darrell and Virgil leverage a message by the late Dr. R.C. Sproul, founder of Ligonier Ministries, entitled ‘Born of the Spirit’, to discuss this topic and help listeners to better understand what salvation in Christ is – and what it isn’t. EP # 011 | A Desire for Justice

This episode of the Just Thinking podcast marks a ‘dirty dozen’ shows that Darrell and Virgil have recorded. In this episode, D and V take listeners on an expository journey through the Old and New Testament as it relates to the topic of “social justice”, and discuss in great detail how our desire for justice, as society, is inextricably rooted in the imago Dei and, conversely, how the heart-transforming gospel of Jesus Christ is both antecedent and fundamental to any social change that is to occur. EP # 010 | MLK Jr. and the deity of Jesus Christ

In this episode of the Just Thinking podcast, which was recorded on the observance of the birth of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., Darrell and Virgil, at the risk of incurring the wrath of many who admire Dr. King, delve into the theology of the man and his views concerning the deity of Jesus Christ, and how fundamentally crucial it is that professing Christians have a proper Christology of Jesus. EP # 008 | Why We Need Police

We are all familiar with the adage, “What goes around, comes around.” That seems to be the case in Baltimore, where many black residents and social activists who, subsequent to the death of Freddie Gray in 2015, were demanding the removal of police from their communities, are now pleading for the return of police to those same neighborhoods in response the skyrocketing murder rate in that city. On this episode of Just Thinking, Darrell and Virgil discuss this topic through the lens of the gospel, including the fundamental question of why we need police in the first place. Also, Virgil lamens the loss of his beloved Oklahoma Sooners to Darrell’s Georgia Bulldogs in the Rose Bowl and the fact that his Sooners will have to wait another year to contend for a national championship. EP # 007 | Black and Pro-Life

Is the term ‘pro-life black person’ an oxymoron? A mirage? A thing of the past? In this episode of Just Thinking, Darrell and Virgil discuss the growing black pro-life movement, a concept which, given how infrequently the terms “black” and “pro-life” are used together, would have many believe it is a contradiction in terms. Additionally, D and V take some time to pay their respects to the late Dr. R.C. Sproul, founder of Ligonier Ministries, who passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017, who had an immense spiritual impact on both their lives. JUST THINKING PODCAST #007

Is a church for ‘black men only’ the solution to the perceived suffrage of black people in America? Is white evangelicalism to blame for the current socio-political climate in our nation? And what about black evangelicalism? On this episode of Just Thinking, Darrell Harrison and Virgil Walker speak candidly but biblically, as usual, about these questions and how the gospel provides us with a Christ-centered response. EP # 006 | “Big Bang” Racism

What does the so-called ‘Big Bang Theory’ in science have to do with racism? And, exactly, what role, if any, is the church to play in making social justice a reality in today’s society? Listen as Darrell and Virgil chop up Darrell’s latest blog article, titled ‘Big Bang’ Racism, while bringing the truth of the gospel to bear on these and other questions in episode 6 of the Just Thinking podcast. EP # 005 | Colin Kaepernick & Civil Rights

Colin Kaepernick continues to be lauded for his stance on social justice, but is he set to follow in the shadows of such noted – and often venerated – civil rights icons as Muhammad Ali and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? Conversely, why do black Americans seem to be engaged in a perpetual search for a savior? Darrell and Virgil tackle these and other topics in episode 5 of Just Thinking podcast. EP # 004 | Social Activism and the Black Church

Is the black church still relevant to today’? Or has it betrayed its legacy of social activism? In this episode of Just Thinking, Darrell and Virgil chop up the topic of how a perceived lack of social activism is causing many black millennial Christians to leave the church and how the words of John Calvin can help reorient us to a proper view of justice in today’s society.
