Did SCOTUS Give the President Immunity for Any Crime? | John Malcolm

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court ended its 2024 term by handing down landmark decisions in a number of key cases, including the all-important Trump v. United States. Left-wing pundits, members of Congress, and even President Biden were quick to make wild claims about the Court's ruling on presidential immunity, with some asserting the president is now free to arrest, deport, or even murder his political enemies. Could any of this be true? Is the president now empowered to use the military to commit heinous crimes? That’s what the Left wants you to believe—because they want you to see the Supreme Court as illegitimate following a string of decisions that restore constitutional order and put power back in the hands of the people. So, what did the Court decide—and how will it affect you?Vice President of the Heritage Institute for Constitutional Government John Malcolm sat down with guest host Cody Sargent, director of communications at Heritage Action, to restore some sanity to the conversation and break down the summer's biggest SCOTUS decisions.  Heritage Legal Experts: SCOTUS Rightfully Protects Presidents from Politicized Prosecutions Hosted on Acast. Why is Net Neutrality Back in the News? | Annie Chestnut-Tutor

One of these debates that resurfaces with every cycle is that of net neutrality. This is the basic idea that internet service providers have to be neutral about the way they provide access to different areas of the Internet. This is a principle on which most people agree, but the policies around it can be much more contentious. So what is going on with net neutrality now? And why does it matter? The Chinese Spy Balloon Visits Heritage | Heritage Explains: China | Episode 2

Obviously, the Cold War in which we find ourselves with China is a global event. But it already has a strong impact on our lives right here in the United States. These effects are visible in a lot of ways, which we're going to talk about here today. Some will surprise you, but some will feel familiar, like one from late January of this year. Many of our listeners will recall the large balloon that was spotted over the Midwest, and was tracked by the government as it crossed over the United States. Federal officials shot the balloon down when it passed over the Atlantic Ocean on February 4. We now know that this was a Chinese spy balloon carrying sophisticated surveillance equipment, and was actually capable of maneuvering itself. For example, it flew in figure eight patterns over numerous US Military sites. On this episode of Heritage Explains, we re-enact this event at Heritage and dig into the other ways that China is involving itself within United States borders. We discuss these issues with China expert Michael Pillsbury. ---More China Research from the Heritage Foundation: www.heritage.org/chinaMichael Pillsbury's Book: The 100-Year MarathonWinning the New Cold War: A Plan for Countering China: https://www.heritage.org/asia/report/winning-the-new-cold-war-plan-countering-chinaThe Kevin Roberts Show: https://www.heritage.org/the-kevin-roberts-show Hosted on Acast. The Coffeemaker Problem | Heritage Explains: China | Episode 1

Today, we are very excited to bring Heritage Explains to a new serialized format. That means that instead of one-off episodes, we are bringing you short series of shows, focused on explaining a particular topic. Why? Because we at Heritage know that we are at a crucial time in our nation's history. There are a few key issues that we must get right. And this topic, the one we're doing right now, as we speak, is one of them: The Threat of the Chinese Communist Party. China is the biggest security threat facing American and the world right now. But sometimes, it can be hard to believe that. For instance, if China is such a big enemy, why can't I find a coffeemaker that's made in the US? Will the Supreme Court Hold Big Tech Accountable?

Remember when social media sites helped legitimized the now-discredited Steele Dossier, labeled the Hunter Biden laptop story as fake, and completely removed a sitting President of the United States from their platforms? These (and many others) are the reasons for the growing distrust for Big Tech. But recently, the US Supreme Court announced they will hear a case that will potentially provide valuable guidance as to the scope and application of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996. This is the federal statute that allows immunity to social media companies for what other people post on their platforms and also the power to remove content at their discretion. On this episode, we talk about the case as a way to hold big tech accountable, the potential outcomes, and get valuable insight as to where the justices might land in their decision. Show Notes: Big Tech’s Big Moment Finally Arrives at Supreme Court Hosted on Acast. LIVE: What's in the Biden-Pelosi Inflation Agenda?

This week, Congress will begin debating a continuing resolution to fund the government through mid-December. We are looking at new funding for Ukraine, Covid, Energy Independence and Security Act, etc. It’s a grab bag of more ways to spend tax payer dollars — and print the rest we don’t collect in taxes. If this is passed by Sept. 30, it sets us up for a spending showdown in the form of a harmful omnibus in December. The Real Winner of the Biden-Putin Cage Match Over Ukraine

As we watch in real time the crisis between Ukraine and Russia play out, the media and people following the situation continue to ask if Putin's Russia will invade Ukraine. But regardless of an invasion, we need to realize that this crisis is happening because of President Biden’s weakness on the world stage. This episode talks about the delicate situation, the state of play, and how U.S. foreign policy should be driven by one priority above all others—the safety, security, and well-being of Americans and our interests.Show Notes:China’s Xi Wins Biden-Putin Cage Match Over Ukrainehttps://www.heritage.org/global-politics/commentary/chinas-xi-wins-biden-putin-cage-match-over-ukraine Hosted on Acast. Inflation Recap

John Popp (audio engineer extraordinaire) and Tim are in the office, even though it's that awkward time between Christmas and New Years. It's quiet, for sure. Because we are all feeling inflation in the pocketbook, and now the term "stagflation" is being thrown around, we decided it'd be a good idea to re run the conversation Tim had with Joel Griffith earlier this year explaining inflation. This is a great primer, and sets us up perfectly for next episode when Joel will be back with Tim to tackle "stagflation." Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Big Defeats Against The Left's Effort to Damage Election Security

After the 2020 election season, many came to the realization that our election system needs significant reforms. In fact, we have actually seen a lot of victories on this front in 2021. But as states pass laws, they are experiencing pushback from left-leaning groups, and the Biden DOJ. That's why The Heritage Foundation has developed an incredible tool called the Election Integrity Scorecard. It analyzes the election laws of every state and grades them on how well they protect the security and integrity of the election process. It’s great context to help understand what has been done, and what more can be done to make it so it's easy to vote, and hard to cheat. On this episode, we talk with Hans von Spakovsky. He's on the frontlines of developing the policies that many of these states are implementing, and has keen insight as to how 2022 can differ from 2020. LIVE - Will Russia Invade Ukraine?

We are seeing video of trains rolling through Russia, moving tanks, guns, and ammo to the eastern Ukraine.  It looks very similar to video footage we saw back in 2014, when Putin moved troops into Ukraine and annexed Crimea.  Journalists on the ground are reporting a lot of different things about Putin’s intentions and how this will play out.  Lots of voices, lots of confusion, and massive potential implications. On this episode (recorded live), we talk with Robert Wilke. George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation

Our friend, Rush Limbaugh, used to read George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1789 every year on the air. It was always so inspiring. While it's great to eat food, watch football, spend time with family, and go around the table to say what we’re thankful for, he also believed Thanksgiving was an opportunity to thank God for the greatness of this Nation, and realize how blessed we are to have our liberty, protected by The Constitution. Now, Afghanistan has been moved off the front pages, and few people are talking about what's happening on the ground and in the region. Can the U.S. Defend Against a Hypersonic Missile Attack?

It was recently reported that China tested a new hypersonic missile in August. This nuclear-capable rocket circled the globe and apparently took U.S. intelligence by surprise. So what does this mean for the U.S.? Do we have the ability to stop a missile traveling at 10,000 miles per hour traveling through space? As we continue to see our adversaries become more forward in their development, it's important to continue asking if the U.S. is able to adequately defend against all the threats that exist. September 11, 2001 - It's been 20 Years

It's been 20 years since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. It's hard to describe in a short blurb what that day has meant for Americans, and all that has changed because of it. So this week, we wanted to take a special look at and acknowledge the calamity, chaos, and confusion, but also look at the tremendous heroism of first responders, men and woman in uniform, and the incredible charity displayed by everyday Americans. We also talk with Steve Bucci. He was the military assistant to Sec. Donald Rumsfeld on September 11, and recounts being in the Pentagon when the plane hit including the great story of Sec. Welfare Reform - Where We're Going (Part 3)

Michelle and I have been looking back on the great success of the bi partisan welfare reform act of 1996. In Part 1, Robert Rector told us that in order to serve the 1 in 7 American children who were dependent on government aid, we needed to do two things: first: require work in exchange for welfare, and second: strengthen families. In part 2, we heard that as a result of achieving these, welfare caseloads (which had not dropped significantly in 50 years) promptly fell by 60%, the child poverty rate suddenly dropped by a third (after being static for a quarter century), and the poverty rate for single-parent families has dropped by two-thirds since reform. But the Biden Administration and liberals in Congress are trying to upend these incredible successes, by giving welfare to people under the name of "tax credits", and requiring virtually nothing to get it. On this episode, Former Senator Rick Santorum joins us to talk about his role in passing welfare reform in 1996, and what we must do to pushback against The Left's attempt to rob people of the dignity of work. Welfare Reform - How We Got Here (Part 1)

It's been 25 years since President Clinton signed into law sweeping welfare reform. But while this massive bi-partisan victory did a lot to strengthen families and sanction the dignity of work from the highest levels of government, a victory 25 years ago doesn't not necessarily mean victory for the next 25 years. Today, President Biden and liberals in Congress are now looking to completely end these successful reforms, and replace them with policies that have been proven not to work. On this episode, we look at the lead up to welfare reform, the politics, the posturing, and of course the success. In addition, we look at the current situation here in DC and why it's crucial to pushback against the left's attempts to upend welfare reform.Show Notes:Reversing Welfare Reform and Returning to “Welfare As We Knew It”Bait and Switch: Biden Child-Allowance “Tax Relief” Overturns Welfare ReformCongress Should Reject Efforts to Restore “Welfare as We Knew It” by Expanding Child CreditsThe Biden Child Allowance: Examining the Impact of Welfare on Work Hosted on Acast. Milton Friedman famously said: " Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon, in the sense that it is and can be produced only by a more rapid increase in the quantity of money than in output." The President Has Been Killed; The Republic of Chad Hangs In the Balance

It's the story hardly anyone in America is talking about. One of Africa’s longest-serving presidents, Idriss Deby of Chad (who had ruled for 30 years) was recently killed in a battle against rebels advancing towards the capital. His shocking death has thrown the country’s frequently tempestuous politics into further turmoil, even as the rebels remain in the field. On this fascinating episode, we talk about who President Deby was and what his legacy looks like, what's at stake for this troubled region in Africa, and what this means for America and our allies.Show Notes:The President of Chad Was Killed in Combat. President Biden's "Infrastructure" Plan

President Biden is proposing a massive spending plan to supposedly build and rebuild America's infrastructure. While the plan relies on the moderate and uncontroversial term "infrastructure," less than 5% would actually go toward traditional road infrastructure projects. Rather, it will be spent on corporate welfare, tax credits, and the left's radical "green" agenda. On this episode, we learn what's in this plan, how much it will cost, and how we're going to pay for it (HINT: Taxes are likely going up).  Show Notes9 Things You Need to Know About Biden's "Infrastructure" Spending Plan Hosted on Acast. Woke Corporate Capitalism

In 2015 Ross Douthat coined the term "woke capitalism" when writing a piece for the New York Times. He defined it as how companies signal their support for progressive causes in order to maintain their influence in society. He really tapped into something. Since then, this mindset has only grown, as the largest corporations are now weighing in of almost every major (and not-so-major) public policy issue. The problem: they increasingly land on the "leftist" side of the issue. So what is the impact? Is this a coordinated effort? What is the antidote to this "corporate wokeness" infiltrating our largest American companies? On this episode, Andy Olivastro joins us to weigh in with a unique perspective. He led communications and reputation strategy for some of the largest corporations and best known brands, and witnessed first-hand this gradual shift toward "corporate wokeness."Show Notes: Success, Not Corporate Wokeness, Elevates the Human Condition1 Investor With 1 Share Can Call Out Corporate LeftismThe Agenda of Black Lives Matter Is Far Different From the SloganConservatives, take back the franchise with proxy voting Hosted on Acast. What Biden's Defense Priorities Should Be

President Reagan talked a lot about securing peace through being strong, and there's no question that our military is strong. So how do we keep up? This week, we dig into the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act), and the priorities that Congress must sanction in order to keep our military strong and prepared. Solving Social Media Censorship

Section 230 of the Communications and Decency Act has been credited as the 26 words that built the Internet. It has also become the avenue that allows social media companies to censor certain content, and keep controversial content from being posted without liability. Conservatives are upset that their content is being censored, and liberals seem to be upset about so-called fake news. But recently, the left has been using identity politics to divide us. This week, we talk to Mike Gonzalez. He has a brand new book out called “The Plot to Change America: How Identity Politics is Dividing the Land of the Free." This book exposes the myths that help identity politics perpetuate itself, it reveals what has really happened in America, and explains why it is urgent to change course. This week, he takes us back to the beginning, and explains where we currently stand, and what we need to do to get back to E pluribus unum.Show Notes:The Plot to Change America: How Identity Politics is Dividing the Land of the Free - by Mike Gonzalez Hosted on Acast.
