This week I want to honor a friend and announce a move. Congratulations to Rick Ector on his recent appointment to the NRA Board of Directors.  I personally know how much this means to him and know he will do the best he can as a representative of firearms trainers, counselors, and gun rights activist.  The guy has been focused and determined to save the lives of people in his home state of Michigan, especially the cities and women. He has single handedly created a space for women of color to get exposed and familiar with firearms in an untraditional environment.  As a gun rights activist, Rick is a force of nature. He could become a politician if he weren't so nice, respectable, and honest.  He often credits me for getting him involved but Rick didn't need me, I just fed the spark he had and it turned into a blaze. He is proof that determination, and positive thinking can do great things.  Having a positive attitude means you have an optimistic outlook. That guy has taken the Second Amendment and the gun rights community to the level it should be.  He has optimism.  He has hope. He believes that if he keeps chugging on things will work out well.  Being voted on the board of director for the National Rifle Association is a bigger deal to Rick that the rich and famous peers with him. Shooting is Mental - 702

Gun ownership requires responsibility.  There is more mental energy required than just owning a gun and shooting it recreationally. (that is what I mean by Shooting is Mental) Training will save you money and save your life.  Seek some before you buy and you’ll thank me. Firearm ownership is not for everyone but it should be for anyone who has not given up his or her right to do so. Buying a firearm should be an educated decision not an emotional one. Shooting is mental because you have to navigate fact from fiction, and hype from reality. You have to make some judgement calls. You have to train your brain not to do what you have seen on TV or on social media.  You have to make decisions that are literally life or death.  Am I prepared to defend myself? Am I ready to go through with what is coming after I stop a bad guy?  Can I handle the political foolishness?  Have I been on the right side of this thing?  Who do I believe now?  Where do I get training from?  Who is legit and not a mall ninja?   Shooting is mental.   These days everybody is an expert.  Who do you trust to teach your family?  Are you going to become a competitor?  Going to start a club?  Going to join one?     Then there is the racism, sexism, separatism that is HUGE in this community. Us vs them.  If you aren’t careful you’ll get sucked up in the foolishness.  Yeah I said it.  Foolishness, it’s one of the reasons after 30 years of gun rights activism you don’t see me at conventions and events.   Below are a list you will probably see each time you go to a public range, learn them. A more in depth reason for them will follow.   1.            Treat all guns as if they were loaded.  2.            Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. 3.            Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.  4.            Be sure of your target and what's beyond it. 5.            Always wear eye and ear protection when shooting. 6.            Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before shooting. 7.            Don't alter or modify your gun, and have guns serviced regularly. 8.            If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. 9.            Use correct ammunition. 10.            Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the firearm before you use it.   Thank you for your prayers and financial support. Saving | Episode 11

Prior Proper Planning Pays Off   Saving money in the shooting sports Update on my wife: Not A Sermon     Unless you are wealthy, recreationally shooting is expensive.  The firearm can cost $400-$4500.  Range time for indoor ranges is $15-25 an hour.  Ammunition, targets, and safety equipment vary. If you are on a budget, good with your money or want to save a few dollars here are some tips that will help you do that.  This will be the first in a series, I will provide for you from time to time.  You don’t like blowing money do you?  Firearms, pistols in particular are almost impulse buys.  They are advertised by movies, screen heroes and the cool kids wherever they are these days.      Range fees have stayed the same for the most part but there are so many new shooters now that it is now unheard of to have an hour wait to use an indoor range.  Believe it or not, that wasn’t the case just a few years ago.    Ammunition increased during the Trump years and hasn’t returned to normal.  Your gun food is important.  Back in the day, when firearm tolerances varied and you had to get gunsmiths to “work” out the rough edges and give love to a handgun just so that it was consistent, ammunition was crucial.  Not all guns worked well with all the brands and grades of ammunition available.  It is a little less the case now although you will find out that with practice, there is some ammo that works best for you.  Different loads, bullet weights, etc. in your firearm do different things when you are behind it.  You won’t know that from the box or necessarily from the recommendation from your shooting partner.  Depending on your shooting schedule, goals, type of firearm, I suggest you buy your ammo in bulk. I’m talking about 1000 rounds of practice ammo.  And 100 rounds of self-defense stuff.    At the onset, 1000 rounds seems like a lot but if you are shooting a semi-auto handgun that has a ten round magazine because you live in one of THOSE states like I do. And you have three magazine that’s 30 rounds.  They sell the good stuff at 25 rds a box typically so you might pay $21-49.00 a box of 25.   Practice ammo- seller & ballot, Winchester, magtech, blazer, Remington, federal     Ear Pro, eye pro and targets,   Invest in a range bag   an Emergency Personal Injury Kit (EPIK)  a rapid-application tourniquet.  eye and ear protection.  a notebook and pen (for recording your rounds fired and perhaps notes on your training and performance)  a cloth for wiping down your firearm and magazines after training.    If you get tired, learn to rest, not quit.Success if being able to continue just one more time after failing or falling.As crappy as things are for you right now, they will be the good old days for your kids, nieces and nephews.Somebody.   This is a little update on the situation.  If you have been following me for the past ten months you know that my wife had a brain tumor removed that incapacitated her. The family has been devastated.  Last Friday, after recovering from being bedridden, and having pneumonia (twice), two blood clots, and fungal meningitis, she had surgery to relieve pressure in her brain.  God clicked the switch and she is talking again.    She’s almost 100% back mentally.  She wants to eat and was able to swallow water.  It’s amazing and so God!    Make sure you have health benefits. Get long term care insurance. Have someone that will advocate for you if you can’t speak.   Visit the sick. Believe and worship God. He is worthy! A Baltimore Police officer who was shot while sitting in her patrol car Christmas Eve has died , according to the Baltimore Police Department. What is the Best Gun for A Woman?   Happy New Year.  This episode is to make you think.   What is the best gun for a woman/female? Fascism  First Amendment Beware of the mob mentality/ group think. I got off topic a little talking about the PC terms of woman or female.  It does relate though to the topic.  I am not trying to offend or trigger you, if this is a touch point but I want to be honest with who I am.   I remember the days when firearms instructors would tell women what type of firearms they thought best. These guys would not do well In todays gun culture.  It was the culture to be sexist, homophobic, and/or racist.   While I am getting my self in all kinds of trouble let me say this unapologetically that I tip my hat, applaud and appreciate all the women, Gay, Lesbian and Trans friends that are around my age plus or minus 20 years that are in the gun movement.  You have managed to get proficient and survive in a culture I didn’t realize was as bad as it was.  As a person of color, a black guy, negro, afro American, African American, black not Hispanic - I dealt with color and race issues.  I can’t fathom adding that to gender equality and sexual preference too.  Some times, my background, and the legacy of those instructors and living creep into my verbiage.  I apologize in advance. So what is the best handgun for a female?  The one she owns and learns how to use the best.   Kenn waxes on physics for a bit.    As gun rights activist and people of varying groups, I want you to think about why you do things.  I want you to think about the word fascism, group think, herd mentality and how it relates to politics and social media today. The Importance of Training - Episode 682

Safety Always treat the gun as loaded. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. Always keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Always keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to use it. Never point the gun at anything you don't intend to destroy. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it. Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the gun you are using. Always use proper Ammunition. Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before loading and shooting. If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled, hold your shooting position for several seconds; then with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, carefully unload the gun. Don't rely on the gun's safety to keep it from firing. Be aware of your surroundings when handling guns so you don't trip or lose your balance and accidentally point and/or fire the gun at anyone or anything.   Beware of the BS that is big in our community. Train to live.

What The Dred Scott Decision Did To Us

In this episode, The Dred Scott Decision, We need to band together  What's Going On with Kenn,    Before the Civil War ended, State "Slave Codes" prohibited slaves from owning guns. After President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, and after the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution abolishing slavery was adopted and the Civil War ended in 1865, States persisted in prohibiting blacks, now freemen, from owning guns under laws renamed "Black Codes." They did so on the basis that blacks were not citizens, and thus did not have the same rights, including the right to keep and bear arms protected in the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, as whites. This view was specifically articulated by the U.S. Supreme Court in its infamous 1857 decision in Dred Scott v. Sandford to uphold slavery.    Dred Scott, a slave born in Virginia, was purchased by John Emerson in Missouri in 1820. Emerson then traveled with Scott to Fort Armstrong, Illinois and from there to Fort Snelling, Wisconsin. Both Illinois and Wisconsin prohibited slavery. Scott and his wife stayed in Wisconsin when Emerson returned to Missouri. Since Emerson leased their services to other white people in Wisconsin, he violated the Missouri Compromise as well as other laws against slavery in that region.  When Emerson moved to Louisiana, Scott and his wife joined them. Their daughter was born in a steamboat on the Mississippi River, which technically made her a free person because she was born in free territory. Emerson soon returned to Wisconsin, but his wife took Scott and his wife back to Missouri when Scott served in the Seminole War. Emerson ultimately died in Iowa, and his widow inherited Scott, whose services she continued to lease to others. Emerson's widow rejected an attempt by Scott to buy his family's freedom, which led to legal action. Scott argued that his wife and he were legally emancipated because of their residence in free territories. Missouri courts had ruled in favor of similarly positioned slaves, but his case was initially dismissed on a minor procedural ground. Eventually, the jury did rule in his favor, but Emerson's widow appealed. She had moved to Massachusetts by then and given Scott to her brother, John F.A. Sandford. Upon appeal, the Missouri Supreme Court reversed earlier decisions in this area and ruled that Scott was not required to be emancipated because he had failed to sue for his freedom when he was living in a free state. When Sandford moved to New York, Scott resumed his legal action there in federal court, since diversity jurisdiction applied.  On March 6, 1857, in the case of Dred Scott v. John Sanford, United States Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger B. Taney ruled that African Americans were not and could not be citizens. Taney wrote that the Founders' words in the Declaration of Independence, “all men were created equal,” were never intended to apply to blacks. Blacks could not vote, travel, or even fall in love and marry of their own free will — rights granted, according to the Declaration, by God to all. It was the culmination of ten years of court battles — Dred Scott's fight to live and be recognized as a free man. The High Court's decision went even further, declaring laws that restricted slavery in new states or sought to keep a balance between free and slave states, such as the Missouri Compromise, were unconstitutional. In essence, Black Americans, regardless of where they lived, were believed to be nothing more than commodities. The Taney court was dominated by pro-slavery judges from the South. Of the nine, seven judges had been appointed by pro-slavery Presidents — five, in fact, came from slave-holding families. The decision was viewed by many as a victory for the Southern “Slavocracy,” and a symbol of the power the South had over the highest court. The dramatic ripple effect of Dred Scott — a ruling historians widely agree was one of the worst racially-based decisions ever handed down by the United States Supreme Court — reached across the states and territories. It sent shivers through the North and the free African-American community. Technically, no black was free of re-enslavement.   Justice delayed is justice denied" is a legal maxim. Politics of Gun Control

Gun control is tied to politics.  It is one of the evergreen subjects of American politics.  As soon as you legally purchase a gun you become a part of the system that blames you for every mass shooting.  It doesn’t matter if you think that it is only a certain caliber or type of firearm that anti-rights politicians and the public is after or not.   What do they want? It is not the assault rifles.  It is not the large capacity magazines.  It is not the firearms used in the crime.  It’s yours too.     It’s not fair.  It’s not practical.  It’s not ethical but it is how it is.  You will be looked at funny if you don’t agree to give away a gun you paid more than $400 for.   You will be falsely accused if you disagree.     Welcome to gun ownership community.  We are a pretty diverse group.  There is a group for everyone.  In my 30 years in this space I have seen  groups that are a melting pot of Americans.  I have seen the all black ones, all white ones, the GLBT ones, the latin and asian ones, the women only ones, the military wannabe ones, the police ones, the NRA ones, the state ones,  the high powered rifle ones, the 22 rifle ones, the hunters and the weekend warrior ones.  There are the tactical ones, the urban ones, the former combat military ones, the ones that love training, and those that don’t, there’s the social media ones, the competition ones, the rich people only ones, Trump supporters and “Never Trumpers”, Republicans, Democrats, liberals, conservatives and independents, militants and uncles and ants, and a mixture of all the above.   What is funny is that we may be separate but we ain’t equal.  We may be different to each other, but we are all the same to the politicians and people that don’t know that AR doesn’t stand for assault rifle.  The people that think and believe if a This is an invitation and plea for new gun-owners and trainers to consider becoming activist our your state houses.  With the increase of black, brown and other gun owners from what is called Traditional, there is a need for us to also step up and represent our clubs, associations and rights.  Due to the recent political situation, many of the old “white guys” in the movement will quickly be dismissed and labeled.  This will hurt us all.  The time is now for you to decide if you can be the person in your group that keeps up with new bills, bad laws, the Law, who is in the House, the Senate and what is going on nationally.  As America mends, as the Republic repairs itself it is going to be slow.  Our enemies will take this opportunity to hurt the future of ALL gun owners.  This is my appeal.  Uncle Kenn Wants You!      6 reasons why are they Anti -Gun Loss Political  Fear Programming  Ignorant  Ego   Gun control is the most supported in the urban areas, where the absence of police is going to felt the strongest. Rethink that folks.  There are more good police officers than bad.  Shout out to all that are out there right now, getting no love but doing what is necessary.   A big concern is really not where we stand at the moment but in what direction we are going. Are you standing still, going backwards or moving forward.  We still only have one life to live.  And if you do it right, that is enough. All the arguments for gun control are OLD.  They are not new.  Grab a couple and work out an original response to it.  Make it your own so when you hear it or read about it you can respond.   We need more activist.   Gun controllers twist words to distort the debate in their favor. “Gun violence” is a propaganda substitute for crime, murder or assault. A so-called “assault weapon” is a normal popular household firearm — “assault” is a type of criminal behavior, not a kind of hardware. Look up “Politically Corrected Glossary” to understand how language is used against you. After the invention of gun powder by the Chinese - there has been a struggle for who owns it.  Gun powder and the components of most bullets still come from china by the way so that is why there has been a ammo shortage.  President Trump pissed off China so …  History The history of gun control in America started in 1634 when in the first laws in the colonies was to make sure the African, Native American and the Chinese didn’t have access to guns.  It kinda continued from there, the Dred Scott case denied Mr. Scott was even human so he therefore had not right to arms.   The first Supreme Court case involving the Second Amendment denied a group of negroes the right to  free speech and bear arms while trying to vote.  C. 1872    But these days we as a people are throwing around racism, sexism and using fear like its popcorn.  Folks are walking on eggshells, avoiding good conversations, not trying, becoming more segregated, separated, irritated and frustrated than any time I have seen before.   After the civil war - black people became republicans.  My ancestors were republicans until MLK made the tactical move to change parties.  We followed.   After Trump the GOP changed again.  Not quite sure where we are as a nation now but history looks like it is repeating itself.   What does all this mean?   It means beloved, friends, family, that if you own a gun, participate in this community you have to get involved. You are the gun lobby.  You are those people.  It doesn’t matter what you identify as. Pronouns, parties, pistols or revolvers.  Rifles or shotguns, jew or gentile, Protestant or Catholic - gay or straight, disciple or atheist    Time for you to step up.  Think about it.  there is bondage in racism, sexism, and negative thinking.  Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.     Politicians are not trying to solve our problems, they are trying to solve their own problems which is getting elected and re-elected    This podcast is free.  As are my opinions. You don’t have to agree.  I have a reason for being here though.  I know that I have smart friends.  I know good citizens.  I know we all want the same things.     As we work to accomplish our mission we will be guided by our beliefs:   In the worth and dignity of every person. That all are entitled to equal rights, justice and opportunity regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability. That free enterprise and individual initiative are the cornerstone of economic growth, opportunity and prosperity. That honest and responsible government must be limited in its scope of authority, efficient in its operations, transparent in its dealings and accountable to its citizens. Farewell message

This is my farewell message to friends, family and coworkers in the 2 A movement.  In my twenty plus year of being in this space, I have never seen anyone actually retire.  They usually die, get a mention in the NRA Rifleman, and Ammoland and that's it.  Or they screw up in a media interview and get crucified by trolls and the community members that like that sort of thing.  I'm trying to go out on my own terms. The world has changed since I started.  A lot.  Some good stuff has happened.  And some bad.  I used to call myself the Bill Cosby of the Gun Rights Movement.  That isn't a good analogy now.  And there were a couple of other guys that I grew up looking up to that have since gone down in flames. Like my wife repeatedly say, don't compare yourself to anyone, just be you. I started with nothing.  I still have most of that left.   I started in 1986 wanted to be a firearms instructor for my community.  I wanted to become a high paid speaker or radio personality. I wanted to  leverage my creativity and entrepreneurism to become a successful business person.  I became the Black Man with a Gun (BMWAG) The local DC Maryland and Virginia community wasn't ready for an under 30  year old African American firearms trainer.  The government allowed me to moonlight and do this side activity but with a strict warning not to disclose my bona fides.  I was watched.  I was monitored.  I had to ask permission before I traveled.  When I appeared before the public they thought, how could I know anything?  How dare I talk about guns when there was the so called black on black crime, police shootings, and drug wars going on.  I got beat up a lot at ranges, gun shops and churches where I  tried to advertise.  But I became involved in the gun community/ gun rights when I failed to make money as a trainer/instructor in 1987.  Gun rights activism doesn't make money if you are honest.  Since then I have been involved in the gun debate, as it intersects firearms instruction and civil rights.  I created the Tenth Cavalry Gun Club in 1991 that grew from Washington, DC, Baltimore, NJ and Illinois.  The Law Enforcement Alliance of America, introduced me the show business of politics and I worked with to the NRA, GOA and SAF. The website Black Man with a Gun debuted in 1999.  I've been involved in US Supreme Court cases we have won for the 2nd Amendment even if my name isn't on it. I learned more about myself than anything doing this stuff I had a training business, where I provided instruction and certifications in first aid, armed security and tactics.  I failed in business but I pressed onward. I started before social media and looking back I could have been a boss with that thing but I didn't. I reached out to all the so called black leaders and announced my intentions in the gun world.  It was risky because historically, this same leaders are anti-gun.  But I went there.  I tried to buy a shooting range.  I got blasted by Rev Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, and local pastors.  I created a podcast in 2007 and I was embraced by the people black people said I should beware of.  The demographic that loved the BMWAG were the same folks that are accused of racism, cronyism, and supremacy.  White males were calling me brother.  They were listening to my shows.  They were inviting me and my family to events across the country.  I shot historical firearms in Tennessee.  I ate at the homes of millionaires, in country clubs, and places in Washington DC I didn't know black people were allowed in.  I learned that our country likes being divisive.  I learned that racism exist mostly because people need it as an excuse.  I learned that organizations really don't want change.  I learned that people like mess, and drama.  I learned that I was a conservative.   What I enjoyed I loved meeting people like you. I loved shooting exotic and new firearms. I loved championing the cause of freedom.  I loved being the Black Man with a Gun.  I loved mixing faith and firearms.  I loved being the pastor of patriots, pistoleros and paladins.  I loved writing but podcasting was my jam.  I loved and hoped that one day I would make enough money to quit my day job.  That didn't happen by the way.  I learned that my faith has sustained me.  I learned that my unique position has saved lives. But it has had its bad side too.  I've spent too much money learning, and chasing influencers.  I filed bankruptcy along this journey. I'm ok now but I learned a lot by my mistakes.  My wisdom came at a price.  I almost lost my wife on this journey.  I almost got kicked out of two churches from being pro-gun.  I lost positions, promotions and opportunities at my old government job because of my pro-gun activities.  It came at a cost.    Memories 1.    Civil rights award from the NRA for bringing the Eddie Eagle program to Washington DC in a big way. 2.    St Gabriel Possenti award from the Gun Dean, John Synder at the Second Amendment Foundation 3.    Creating the tenth cavalry gun Club and getting the club to shoot at the NRA range when it was brand new 4.    Meeting Charlton Heston and getting Christmas cards from him for a few years 5.    Being the chaplain of the LEAA 6.    Being a part of the concealed carry reforms across the US 7.    Testifying in VA, TX, MI, WI and SC legislative houses 8.    Interviewing the Gunny, Lee Ermey, Wayne LaPierre, befriending a rabbi  like Dovid and connecting with my Jewish brethren 9.    Speaking in front of 20K in Albany NY 10.    Meeting Donald Trump and getting a selfie in NY 11.    Publishing two three books related to the my journey and the 2nd amendment 12.    Creating a website in 1999 and trademarking the name bmwag 13.    Being mentioned in a movie, pros and Cons. 14.    Getting a chance to audition for a pilot show on Spike TV 15.    Podcasting for 12 years, 630+ episodes, sharing American history, and introducing new generations to things they may have missed. 16.    Working with over 12 industry companies and getting sponsored by Crossbreed holsters and USCCA 17.    Interviewing over 100 historical people for the podcast   I created a IG post that alerted my friends that I was retiring.  It made me sad even though I am smiling in the picture.  How do you retire?  I'm making it up as I go.  I have never been here before but I know it is a nice thing to let folks know of your intentions.  Like anyone, I thought about all the things I did that didn't succeed.  I started dwelling on it and had to break out the ice cream.  If you feel bad, eat a little ice cream. I learned that from my dad.  Not too much or you will look like you are always sad.   Why am I leaving? When I got started in 2000 as the BMWAG, it was tongue in cheek.  It was my version of a shock jock.  I did it with all the intentions of being replaced by many untraditional firearms instructors, activist and clubs.  We have that.  I personally know of Spanish speakers, LGBT, African Americans, disabled vets and boat loads of women involved now.  I've been the go to guy media for law enforcement issues in the black community, religion and guns and veterans issues as it relates to guns.  Most of the time, after a tragedy. Not good times.  There have been almost a steady flow of tragedy to respond to.  If you know the media game, if you sound reasonable, truthful and not bombastic your contribution will not be used.  I think I might get the reward for the most media nobody but the editor as seen. I'm tired of that. It took me awhile to learn the game of hyperbole.  On a good day, I can crank it out like the best of them.  But it's not my style.  Over the years I have learned that I am not the loudest, nor the most controversial voice out there.  I started focusing on taking care of the second amendment first responders instead.  And I still will.  I care about you, your family and where you are going.   I learned you need a team to succeed.  You can be one dude on a mission as I have been.  You have to learn how to delegate.  You have to inspire folks to work for you for nothing until you can pay them.  I didn't manage that.  Since 2007, I have been producing digital content.  The Lord has allowed me to create, practice narration, speak and presenting online. I was intimately involved in the gun debate, US Constitutional issues and social causes.  And with that I am well known among the gray beards.  This fight is evergreen. I believe that this season of my life is ending and that I am to move on to the next.  I want to entertain. Teach and continue doing the needful on the sidelines.  My best work and most of my accomplishments are not online.  I have changed minds.  I have saved families. I have helped veterans.  I have been a brother to those in need.  I have helped mothers, grandmothers and children.   So how do you retire on your own terms? I figured my first step was in letting my friends know of my intentions so it doesn't catch them off guard. Decrease my expenses.  Live modestly.  Love unconditionally.  Continue to help my fellowman.  I am still pro-gun, pro-rights and pro-life - my life. If you want to find me, I will still be online, shooting recreationally, still be singing, playing the blues, riding my motorcycle, preaching the gospel, smiling and praising my God. 2 A Rally

on November 2, 2019, about a hundred gun rights activist from different organizations, channels and locations came together in unity for the US Constitution. The one point they all agreed on was the importance of the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights. It was a major feat because it was the herding of strong personalities. I was privileged to be in the number chosen to speak that day to a crowd about ten times that number on the grounds of the US Capitol's west lawn. There were 26 or so speakers that spoke but even more that didn't but were equally important in our constant struggle to keep America free. Craig Deluz is an awesome speaker. I got a chance to catch him before he got started here. Also was the meeting of Dave Smith, a competitive shooter with the Parkinsons' Disease that learned he can manage this struggle by continuing to shoot. I want to be remembered for more than just being the OGaka the Black Man with A Gun™.  Here’s what I plan.  I am working with a app developer to create a mobile app that can be a platform directory for organizations like the GOA, USCCA, SAF, NAAGA, 2AO, and others to connect with us.  IT will also have a directory and links to pages from content creators that are really the media for our side.  The bloggers, podcasters, and YouTubers will have their own apps within this app. I am trying to get cutting age tech to protect us from the Bergs that don’t like us. (Bloom and Zucker.)  It’s been a great life so far.  Being involved in the gun rights movement has improved me.  It has taught me to be a better citizen.  It has made me appreciate freedom, history and the sacrifices of others.  Communication is the magic sauce.  Going to try it despite our mistrust of each other.  Going to make it happen despite the need for goo gobs of money.  The power has always been in the people. We are what makes this thing called freedom work. I think I can do this. I’ve worked with just about everyone.  I’ve watched folks come and go.  Like a sentinel, I have held my post.  I have encouraged and discouraged posers as best I could.   I have been an activist in the gun rights community since 1991. Before that I started as a firearms trainer for my government agency.  From that I launched a side business to teach tactics and defense to civilians and security officers.  I was part of the start of the concealed carry movement.  I traveled with the NRA and the Law Enforcement Alliance of America to testify in a handful of states to change their racist policies and laws.  Thus began my journey as the Black Man with A Gun™. I started a national gun club in 1991 to foster the growth of African Americans in the shooting sports.  I published a book in 1999.  I created a website in 2000. I’ve worked behind the scenes to select, qualify and protect people of color that became involved in Supreme Court cases. I’ve worked with the NRA.  I even tried to get a job there.  I’m a life member. I only turned it down because the salary was too low and not close to what they were paying the incumbent. I begged to be a functioning member on the GOA staff and after –way too much back and forth – got a position as the volunteer Urban Affairs guy.  I didn’t do a thing with that.  I resigned.  Too early I guess. I’ve been a voting member on the CCRKBA and done the perfunctory “minority speaker slot” the GRPC but never made the masthead.  I’ve worked with just about all the groups out there.  My hats off to all the brothers and sisters now working with “x” organization. How I Saved Eddie Eagle From Heat Stroke

How I brought the NRA's Eddie Eagle Gun Safety program to Washington DC's inner city kids and saved Eddie from heat stroke. Back in 1997, I was big on the NRA. The decoys are washed and the shotguns are ready, but most folks just hope that their dogs will be steady. And I in my Gore-Tex thinsulate cap had just settled down for I hoped a short nap. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter the dog sprang from my lap (UGH!) so see what was the matter. Away to the kitchen she flew like a flash. Tore a hole through the screen and barked through the gash. The moonlight glistening off the freshly fallen dew allowed me to tell it was some one I knew. It was my hunting partner who drove my dog so insane and he whistled, he shouted, he called her by name. From the door of the truck to the walk up the steps and with a great clunk into the kitchen they crept. He was a great big camouflaged neoprene elf and I laughed when I saw him in spite of myself. We spoke not a word but went straight to our work. Loaded dogs, decoys and big-wheeled garden carts. As he cinched the last strap he turned with a jerk and thrusting an arm down deep in his pants he said, "thought I'd forgotten my stamps" As dry leaves before the hurricane fly, well that describes our early morning ride. We arrived at the marsh long before it was light and a lone whistle from above let me know things would be right. We stood at the tailgate and talked for a while. About dogs, decoy patterns and calling styles But then it was time to go our separate ways as he was hunting the long blind, about a half mile away. But I heard him exclaim as he walked out of sight "Good luck one and all, hunt safe and hunt right".

In Memory of Jemel Roberson

  It’s another tragic thing to talk about, live through, watch and mourn but a black man with a gun was killed by a police officer in Illinois.  As a Second Amendment advocate and civil rights activist I am unfortunately in a familiar place.  Yes, I have been here before.  Questioned by friends, and scolded by enemies.  A life was lost and no solution seems worthy.  A mother lost her son, a church lost its keyboardist member, the divide between law enforcement and the community stays wide.  After the obvious bloviating, pontifications and generalities, what?   Racism.  Fear.  Perceptions. Poor Training.  Poor Hiring. Charles Whitman began a murder spree by firing his scoped rifle from atop a 330-foot clock tower in Austin, Texas, killing people hundreds of yards away. When police .38s and buckshot proved impotent at that distance, private citizens on the ground returned fire on Whitman with hunting rifles and target rifles. Whitman was forced to take cover and stop shooting. Armed citizen Allen Crum then led Austin policemen Houston McCoy and Ramiro Martinez to the top of the tower. Crum fired the first shot of the encounter (which may have broken Whitman’s planned ambush of the officers), and McCoy and Martinez shot Whitman dead. Martinez later publicly credited the armed citizens with stopping the killing. Bernice and Sylvan Simon Rose Mallinger Cecil and David Rosenthal Dr. Jerry Rabinowitz Daniel Stein Joyce Fienberg Richard Gottfried, Melvin Wax Irving Younger The news was grim: Florence SC police officer shot and killed Sgt. Terrence Carraway and the six others wounded In a Kentucky Kroger store following a failed attempt to barge into a black church. A murderer then headed to a Kroger store, where he allegedly shot two people, both African-American. The first victim was Maurice Stallard, 69, who was with his 12-year-old grandson buying a poster board for a school project. The second was Vickie Jones, 67, killed in the parking lot as Bush fled. This week they caught a “nut” that sent more than 10 mail bombs to people who'd been critical of POTUS -- a man who had railed against Democrats and minorities with hate-filled messages online. Preparing for Trouble and Remembering 9/11

The September 11 attacks (also referred to as 9/11) were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda against the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The attacks killed 2,996 people, injured over 6,000 others, Four passenger airliners operated by two major U.S. passenger air carriers (United Airlines and American Airlines)—all of which departed from airports in the northeastern part of the United States bound for California—were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda terrorists. Two of the planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, were crashed into the North and South towers, respectively, of the World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan. Within an hour and 42 minutes, both 110-story towers collapsed. Debris and the resulting fires caused partial or complete collapse of all other buildings in the World Trade Center complex, including the 47-story 7 World Trade Center tower, as well as significant damage to ten other large surrounding structures. A third plane, American Airlines Flight 77, was crashed into the Pentagon (the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense) in Arlington County, Virginia, which led to a partial collapse of the building's west side. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, was initially flown toward Washington, D.C., but crashed into a field in Stonycreek Township near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after its passengers thwarted the hijackers. 9/11 is the single deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement officers in the history of the United States, with 343 and 72 killed, respectively.   Where were you during the 9/11 event seventeen years ago? The Truth about Gun Control Gun control is as old as gun powder itself.  There has always been one side in favor of controlling who can get a gun.  Gun control is great for politicians and the media because it is easy to sell.  It’s about money.  It’s good for corporations and celebrities in need of tax write offs.  Its good for politicians because you can’t offend a mechanical device.  It’s good for organizations because you can look like you are doing something socially correct.  It is good for preacher, and clergy because it sounds like you are socially conscious and aware but not.  Gun control is a billion-dollar industry.  It sells guns.  In the inner city they get the mothers of slain teens to put their tears on display.  Politicians and organizations pimp these grieving women.  Imagine your mother being manipulated and used in the worse time of their lives.  Some of these ladies lost their children early on to the streets.  Their sons were in gangs or the drug trade and their death although tragic was not a surprise.  This month we have the affluent kids of Parkland Florida gladly being exploited and pushed into the spotlight for the cause of gun control.  I suspect they are loving it, many being flown around and funded by millionaires to be on the spotlight.  Using their naiveté, voices and socialist tendencies they are being paraded and funded around the country to champion the cause of gun control.  They are surprised however that no one takes them serious.  They have no idea that every gun control measure that can be instituted has already been tried, implemented, legislated or proposed before.  Gun control is a fail.  It was birthed in racism.  You cannot legislate human behavior.  Evil exist when good people do nothing.  Evil is real.  The heart of man is desperately wicked.   Going to share some thoughts with you here about the mass shootings since 1991.  Remind you to share some compassion.  To think about what you are saying or writing before you release it and to help keep our country united. History On Christmas Day 1951, Harry T. Moore and his wife, Harriette, had just finished celebrating their silver anniversary when a bomb blew up their home in Mims, Fla. The explosion killed the couple, and they became the first martyrs from civil rights movement the 1950s. For seventeen years, in an era of official indifference and outright hostility, the soft-spoken but resolute Moore traveled the back roads of the state on a mission to educate, evangelize, and organize. This show might put some of you 5-11 shorts, tactical vest chest wearing, never been in combat, 3 pt slinging call of duty addicted, adrenaline junkies to sleep but that is alright, this is for the OG’s.   This is for the fathers of adult children, the men that remember who Walter Cronkite was, watched the Jetsons, the Beverly Hillbillies, got a transistor radio for Christmas, remember when the Dick van Dyke show wasn’t a reference to a girl on girl porno flick, saw Johnny Carson on TV, JFK, and the Beatles. Fellas, I was born in the same year as Wesley Snipes, Tom Cruise, Matthew Broderick, Axl Rose, Ralph Fiennes, Demi Moore, Jim Carrey, and Sheryl Crow. The year was 1962. I survived civil rights, school busing, and some stuff that I can’t even speak about. You should be proud to have made it too. I know if you are active on the net, facebook, forums etc, the younger guys rule for the most part and you can feel kinda out of it. I am here to tell you, its all good. We were young once too. If they are fortunate that might make it to our age. It made me think about the movie The Unforgiven and the Shootist, Rooster Cogburn and the movies where the old guys still got it. When I started in security and then law enforcement I was trained with and carried a smith and Wesson model 19. That means I used the fabled speed loaders extensibly. Courses were really static practical pistol courses back then with a lot of time and barricades. I carried a revolver in my travels prior abroad too, I switched to Browning Hi-Power however when I started doing executive personal protection details in Central and Latin America and the Middle East. The coveted trainers were the now gone guys, Charles Taylor, Jeff Cooper and their disciples. Masaad Ayoob was there too, but he was the smarter one. He dealt with the mind more than the macho. He has progressed and kept up with the times unlike many of the old dudes.   It was the age of the .45. You weren’t cool if you carried a 9mm but I usually did because it was easier to obtain 9mm internationally, and made a smaller footprint. Who was the gringo looking for .45 caliber ammunition esse? I trained ivy league types going into hostile environment, I qualified police and security officers for duty. I shared some of my mistakes carrying in countries where it was illegal for a foreigner to be armed. I shared stories of what happens when the feces hits the oscillating device. By the time I got to the Far east, I was using the Glock 17 first generation of course! In the 90’s I opened a business to help security guards qualify for armed duty and the new gun owner be safer that bombed. The guards didn’t want training they just wanted permission to carry so they could get paid higher than the unarmed post. Most hated firearms, didn’t know about gun rights, history or the sports involved.   I’ve actually hit more bad guys when I was driving in the protective details I was on that I have shot people but that is something for another time.   I was checking out the AR-15 world and on the rifle front, I am kinda lacking. I carried an uzi and a HK MP-5 a few times when I wasn’t the advance or on hot seat. I carried an M-16A1 back in corps. All back in the days of wine and roses of course.   Today, I hear the same arguments I did back in 1991 when I started my firearms training company. I think that is why I am so melancholy, been doing this stuff a long time and didn’t win the war.   Still hear folks talking about 9 mm over the .45.   For the record, I agree that the 1911 has its place but your choice for a self-defense side arm should be a newer polymer, double stacked something. We used to say if you need more than two rounds you are in combat and have the wrong firearm anyway. Well, I have since understood that bad guys have evolved and become more tribal. You are likely to have multiple attackers, a mob or a gang and need that spare magazine. Folks don’t stay down when shot. They don’t surrender if you don’t stop them and life in general is just going to suck during and after the incident so get over it, get through it and survive. Everything is not combat though. You can’t live in a Call of Duty condition. So listen up you wanna-bee, mall ninjas, keyboard commandoes, three gun gear nerds, if you decide to get a concealed carry permit, its not a hunting permit on people that piss you off. All threats don’t require lethal force. If you can you can leave, leave. If someone hurts your feelings, insults you wife, live with it. I am saying this because just it just seems to be a rash of stupid people making the news. Too many immature, untrained and unskilled guys out there itching for a gunfight. The only person I know out there teaching you how not to end up on the news, on YouTube, and in jail through necessary judicious use of force curriculum is Massad. I know you bought the firearm, You got the magazines, the pouches, the belts, the pants with the pockets, you got ammo for days, but every day is not combat.

553 - Free Men Own Guns, Slaves Do Not

Happy New Year and thank you for listening to the Black Man With A Gun Show Podcast.  In response to feedback that you liked when I did a little history, I am going to share some bullet points of the history of slavery in America up until the Emancipation Proclamation.  There was a old celebration of freedom that has been perverted called “Watch Night.”  It involved my ancestors and I want to share that with you.  Michael J. Woodland, talks about cleaning your rifle and you might here a few other things in this one. By the President of the United States of America: A Proclamation. Whereas, on the twenty-second day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-two, a proclamation was issued by the President of the United States, containing, among other things, the following, to wit: "That on the first day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the Executive Government of the United States, including the military and naval authority thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such persons, and will do no act or acts to repress such persons, or any of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom. "That the Executive will, on the first day of January aforesaid, by proclamation, designate the States and parts of States, if any, in which the people thereof, respectively, shall then be in rebellion against the United States; and the fact that any State, or the people thereof, shall on that day be, in good faith, represented in the Congress of the United States by members chosen thereto at elections wherein a majority of the qualified voters of such State shall have participated, shall, in the absence of strong countervailing testimony, be deemed conclusive evidence that such State, and the people thereof, are not then in rebellion against the United States." And by virtue of the power, and for the purpose aforesaid, I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated States, and parts of States, are, and henceforward shall be free; and that the Executive government of the United States, including the military and naval authorities thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of said persons. And I hereby enjoin upon the people so declared to be free to abstain from all violence, unless in necessary self-defence; and I recommend to them that, in all cases when allowed, they labor faithfully for reasonable wages. I almost let go and then went “back to the future” on my own podcast. I started listening to past shows and then looked around at all the shows that have pod-faded since I started.
