Taking a Break & Reevaluating, Ep. 50

Today’s episode is to fill you in on what’s been going on with my life the last month that I haven’t been putting out episodes. Sometimes you start stuff just to see what happens and if you like it. And that’s what this podcast is, a fun project, or at least that’s what I thought it was supposed to be at first until I tried to turn it into something else. If it’s no longer fun, sometimes a reevaluation needs to take place and things are put on hold. I feel totally okay with this, as should you about things you do this to as well. ALSO, thank you so much for listening to any and all episodes that you have listened to and that this will be more sporadic as I evaluate how I truly want to spend my time.

You Don’t Need To Be Extraordinary, Ep. 49

There’s too much pressure to be “the best” at something—at everything really. You can do things just for fun and explore. You can just enjoy living your life and doing what makes you happy. You don’t need to be the president, a Nobel Laureate, an astronaut, or an Olympic Gold Medalist. In this episode, we discuss:Lessons from Barbie 🎀The extreme pressure to be great at something all the timeBONUS: I sing a little bit of the Billie Eilish song “What Was I Made For?” for fun at the end 🙂Related Episodes:Following Your “Passion” Is Overrated BS. Having Self Compassion For Changing Your Mind, Ep. 48

We often get overwhelmed by our own schedules, commitments, relationship requirements—basically our lives. But it’s okay to change your mind and move things that no longer work for you. Busy schedule? Reschedule or cancel what you can until you feel more comfortable. No longer want to go to that Happy Hour you said you’d go to? Then don’t. We make our own choices and create our own lives. In this episode we discuss:Extending the same understanding and compassion to ourselves that we extend to othersCreating a schedule that works for you, when it works for you.Related Episodes:Are You a “Quitter?” OR Did You Change Your Mind? Not Everything Is a Priority, Ep. 47.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when everything seems equally important and urgent. If this often seems to be the case for you, then all this lack of focus and sight of THE singular priority means that everything will flail with only increments of progress, fueled by lots of stress and anxiety. If everything is the top priority…then none of it is.In this episode, we discuss:How we can only have 1 priority at a time. Priorities, plural, isn’t a real thing. It's easier to juggle multiple things at different points of your life than it is at other times and it's okay to drop the ball sometimes on things that aren’t THE priorityTaking the time to live in a decision instead of reflecting and evaluating that decision AS you’re living/enacting it. It’s okay to pivot as needed, but make that call out of safety, not fear, lack, and anxiety.Related Episodes:Respecting Your Limits: Adapting to Life's Seasons. Where You Start vs. Where You Finish. Ep. 46

It’s easy to lose sight of how far we’ve come because we’re always searching for the next rung in the ladder. But where you’re standing right now could be the exact place that someone looking up at you is inspired to be.In this episode, we discuss:The power in being able to look back and be proud of how far you’ve comeIt’s okay to not have an end goal in mind and to follow the curiosity of things you THINK you might likeThere are usually distinct learning stages in every journeyYou could be an inspiration for someone and have no ideaYou’re never “done” your journey, not until you’re deadRelated Episodes:EPISODE 4: Your shine doesn’t dim mine. Get Over Yourself, with Laura Aura. Ep. 45

It’s our default to take every decision so freaking seriously. But really, 99% of the time it’s not that big of a deal and we need to just get over ourselves. Even if it’s a “failure,” WE are not failures, we just have fail moments and the indecision and fear will stop us quicker than anything else so it’s best to just make a decision and run with it — You change your mind if you want to later, no biggie.Join me and my guest Laura Aura as we discuss:How much “we underestimate how much power we actually have over our lives and our own ‘success’”Sometimes you need to have a “beautiful meltdown” so that you can build yourself back upOpportunities that are meant for you will not pass you by, so trust the process and the timing by consistently showing up“If we get out of our way of making all the details work, then the magic happens"Related Episodes:Stop Waiting for Perfection Or An Invitation. Long Term Thinking Over Short Term Feelings. Ep. 44.

I almost didn’t record an episode this week. This episode was scheduled to come out on July 4th and so I thought, “It doesn’t matter, it’s a holiday, and there will be WAY fewer people listening.” But I had to stop and think of myself in the not-too-distant future and ask, “Would future Amanda be happy with the choices made by present Amanda?” No. She would probably say, “Put out an episode because it doesn’t matter 3 years in the future that it was a holiday. It matters that you created something that can positively impact more people, which you cannot do if you only create and release things when you feel like it...” Sit down, record an episode, and move on to the next thing. In this episode, we discuss:When possible, long-term thinking should win out to short-term feelings. The importance of working and thinking backwardYour goal or vision seems so far away, but when you reach it, that beginning point will feel like forever ago. Time is relative.Related Episodes:How to Stop Procrastinating and Start Living in Messy Action. Ep. 21Respecting Your Limits: Adapting to Life's Seasons. You Should Quit, and Quit Often, Ep. 43

“It’s easier to be mediocre than it is to confront reality and quit”— Seth Godin. Today we talk about how freeing it feels to finally quit something that no longer serves you, never truly worked for you, the reward is no longer worth the effort, or you’re just plain average at.It means you can shift your energy to something else, something better suited to you. But quitting is hard. It’s easier to ignore the truth that it’s better to quit and just continue hustling down a path you’ve already put so much effort into.In this episode, we discuss:“Most people are afraid to quit and it leads to mediocrity.”—Seth GodinIt’s easier to keep going with the status quo even if you’re unhappy and you’d be better suited to something elseThe importance of quitting at the “right” time instead of wasting your timeIt takes courage to quit and to face the unknown of what comes next, it takes guts to quitRelated Episodes:Are You a “Quitter?” OR Did You Change Your Mind? You can’t take shortcuts. Showing Up Even When You’re Unmotivated & Uninspired, Ep. 41

Sometimes, the motivation just isn't there. Today, I showed up to the microphone with no real idea of what to say. I lacked inspiration, motivation, and creativity. I was simply there, existing. The problem was that I still needed to record an episode because I promised myself, and you, that I would release a new one every Tuesday morning. I HAD to show up and uphold the commitment I made to myself. In this episode, we discuss:Showing up consistently looks different. Every. Single. How to Be “Enough:” Living a Life of Curiosity, Not Expectations, with Vicky Nguyen. Ep. 40

We often live our lives full of expectations instead of with curiosity. Because of this, we often feel like we're failing or not doing "enough." Being unattached to certain outcomes and leaving ourselves open to try different things and learn from them is the key to being more fulfilled, instead of feeling like we never can be, have, or do "enough." In this episode, I chat with Vicky Nguyen, about how she prioritizes her time, making curiosity a top priority, and how to compete with yourself in a fun way.In this episode, we discuss:"You can do everything, but you can't do everything at once."“I can be better at anything, I just need to choose which things"Scheduling time for when you are most creative, not on someone else’s schedule, but working in your flowsWe also get into some hot takes on marketing that we love and hateRelated Episodes:How to Stop Procrastinating and Start Living in Messy Action. Following Your “Passion” Is Overrated BS. Ep. 39

It’s normal not to have a singular all-encompassing passion that you’d suffer years for. This is completely contradictory to the advice that hustle culture shoves down our throats of, “if you just follow your ‘passion’ you’ll make loads of money and never work a day in your life.”What if you dabble and your life isn’t a linear line? What if you don’t have a SINGULAR passion…? News flash: like 99% of people don’t have a singular passion that they would die to do their entire lives. Even the greats that we think of, like Leonardo da Vinci, were masterful dabblers in many things because they lived with healthy curiosity instead of sacrificial fervor for a singular passion. In this episode, we discuss:how preaching to be “successful” you need only find your “passion” and follow it full heartily is ridiculous and harmful to those who don’t have one (aka most people)most of the people you know, even those wildly successful, have more than one passion or niche that they’ve lived their life underliving a life with curiosity is more important than following 1 thing until the end of timeRelated Episodes:The Problem With Always Striving To Be "Better." Coping with the Unpredictability of Bipolar II. Ep. 38

This episode is a bit different in that I just sat down to the microphone and recorded what I was feeling and where I was mentally/emotionally during a depressive episode thanks to Bipolar II life. I chat about some of the things that happen on a rotating basis without any warning: insomnia, listlessness, lethargy, disconnectedness, agitation and anxiety, feeling guilty for how this impacts my family, etc. There’s no real “point” to this episode other than to share how I’m feeling in the hopes that my sharing and thinking through things might be helpful to someone else.UPDATE: less than 24 hours after recording this episode I sprung back up with a hypomanic episode later in the day and got a ton of work done…being mentally unwell is super annoying and unpredictable, obviously. In this episode, we discuss:How it feels when you don’t act the way you want to act due to mental illnessThe guilt and stress when chemicals alter your brain and how you show up in the world on a monthly basisBipolar II symptoms and guiltRelated Episodes:Bipolar ii life & embodying Bare Minimum Babe. Productivity & Trauma: How Ignoring Your Body's Signals Affect Your Business with Laura Patricia Martin. Ep. 37

Building our business in trauma is not something we think about, especially in those terms, but so often it’s true. A large number of businesses are founded because the founder solved a problem they had and then wanted to share that solution with others. In this episode, with guest Laura Patricia Martin, we discuss an often overlooked aspect of entrepreneurship to understand the impact of unresolved trauma on their business, relationships, and overall well-being.I also share my vulnerable feelings about interviewing guests for the podcast, and our guest expert Laura walks me through a mini-session.In this episode, we discuss:Knowledge vs. Embodiment—the difference between knowing something intellectually and embodying it in our actionsThe importance of being our own advocate, listening to our body's check engine lights, and taking care of ourselves to build resilience for the futureHow our body feels things that our mind doesn't want to work through and how ignoring these feelings can affect our productivityFree Workbook:Grab a copy of my FREE workbook, “Kill The Hustle: You’re Marketing Your Business All Wrong” https://www.bareminimumbabe.com/kill-the-hustle-workbookRelated Episodes:Bipolar ii life & embodying Bare Minimum Babe. Respecting Your Limits: Adapting to Life's Seasons. Ep. 36

If you beat yourself up for not constantly living up to your "full potential" at all times, then this episode is for you. Something that is largely ignored in hustle culture is that there are many seasons in our lives that require different versions of ourselves, and that version isn't always the top-performing one in terms of productivity. It's easy to slide into shame and "shoulds" during these more dormant seasons or when you need to pivot to other parts that have less extrinsic "value." But we shouldn't beat ourselves up for recognizing when we need to reallocate focus and energy into something else in our lives, at least for periods of time.In this episode, we discuss:Doing what you can, where you can, and doing your best with the resources you have available to youLetting go of the constant need to be hustling and pushing ourselves to our limitsAvoiding the negative self-talk that can come with feeling like you're not doing "enough"How to recognize when you're in a growth or dormant season of your life and how to adapt your mindset accordinglyFree Workbook:Grab a copy of my FREE workbook, “Kill The Hustle: You’re Marketing Your Business All Wrong” https://www.bareminimumbabe.com/kill-the-hustle-workbookRelated Episodes:The Problem With Always Striving To Be "Better." Why Your Rates Matter: The Importance of Confidently Charging Your Value. Ep. 35

Have you ever experienced condescending pushback or anger from clients or customers when you share what you charge for your standard rates? It can be frustrating and even demoralizing, but it's important to remember that their reaction has absolutely nothing to do with you and everything to do with how they value themselves and see the world. Do NOT lower your rates to please people who can never be pleased. In this episode, we discuss:If they can't afford you, they can and, often, will try to make you question your worth and feel like sh*t. Don’t let them. You can't please everyone—No matter how low you set your rates, there will always be people who expect more for less. Higher prices weed them out.Pushback says more about them and their own insecurities and financial limitations than it does about you and your pricesRespect yourself and stand up confidently for what you know is the value that you bring to the table no matter how someone TRIES to make you feelFree Workbook:Grab a copy of my FREE workbook, “Kill The Hustle: You’re Marketing Your Business All Wrong” https://www.bareminimumbabe.com/kill-the-hustle-workbookRelated Episodes:You Should Keep Your Day Job And Here’s Why Ep. 28.Money Talks: An Honest Conversation About Income and Wealth. "You paid WHAT for that!?" & The Nonsense of Imposter Syndrome. Ep. 34

"You paid what for that!?" Have you ever incredulously asked this of someone when they show you a product or service they bought and it’s utterly subpar? I bet you have. And the interesting thing is, I bet the person behind that business that provided that good or service felt great charging that price and providing that subpar end result, unaware it’s subpar because they probably don't suffer from...IMPOSTER SYNDROME.You holding yourself back thinking "Who am I to [fill in the blank]" are wasting your time and energy. There are millions of people out here with less skill and less expertise charging arms and legs, handing out subpar work to customers who deserve better. In this episode, we discuss:Price paid does NOT equal valuePeople will pay any amount of money for anything—there is a market, customer, and audience, for what you want to put out into the world.Your Imposter syndrome lets potential customers down because your inaction results in them receiving subpar results from those out there doing what you feel an imposter about.Free Workbook:Grab a copy of my FREE workbook, “Kill The Hustle: You’re Marketing Your Business All Wrong” https://www.bareminimumbabe.com/kill-the-hustle-workbookRelated Episodes:How to Stop Procrastinating and Start Living in Messy Action. Money Talks: An Honest Conversation About Income and Wealth. Ep. 32

Money is power. Money is opportunity. You’re able to make different decisions for your life and think about these decisions differently when you have money. When we feel safe in our money-making capabilities, we create MORE money-making opportunities. We make decisions based on longer-term strategy, and less desperate cash grabs. You are able to create the life you want, not the life dictated to you by your current budget. In this episode we discuss:An honest look at how much money I makeThe necessity of more than one income stream and how to give yourself a raiseDestigmatizing the sharing of income and wealth information with other women so we all know what is possible and where the gaps might beThe way women are taught to think about money prevents us from making moreMy money mindset issues that held me back from making moreMoney isn’t personal. How To Step Into Being The Leader You’re Meant To Be, With Suzy Dickstein. Ep. 31

A lot of us are hiding what makes us truly great because we “should” all over ourselves when really we “should” just be ourselves. Today’s episode features my first-ever guest, Suzy Dickstein, and we discuss how to lean into the strengths that come naturally to us so that we can become the leaders we were meant to be and inspire others to create a truly rave-worthy business. In this episode we discuss:When you become a business owner, you become a leader. The importance of showing up and failing.People don’t connect with others because they’re perfect— they connect because of the IMperfections and vulnerabilitiesThe importance of establishing your values so that your messaging is always crystal clearYou only figure things out for that next step AS you’re taking that next step. How To Spot Predatory Marketing Tactics of Internet Coaches. Ep. 30

There are way too many internet coaches preying on your imposter syndrome and promising things they can’t actually guarantee with vague and hopeful statements like "I can scale your business to multiple 6 figures in just 6 months," and “quit your 9-5 with my foolproof method.”But your goal should not be to get to an arbitrary "6 figures" as quickly as possible. Your goal should be what works for YOU. Your goal probably was not to squeeze out as much money as you can from someone to get to six figures, right? I hope I'm not wrong here…In today's episode, we talk about:The predatory marketing tactics used to prey on your imposter syndrome and desperation for guidance. How everyone and every business is different—there is no ONE marketing strategy or way of doing things that will work for everyone.Going after short-term cash grabs is NOT how to build a lasting brandHow NOBODY can guarantee you will make $X amount of money in Y amount of time. NOBODY.How anyone who promises to have the PERFECT solution for you, they’re lying. The Problem With Always Striving To Be “Better.” Ep. 29

We too often fall into the trap of watching others for “inspiration” to learn but it’s a slippery slope into comparisons, negative self-talk, and emulating traits that don’t truly fit us. Today’s episode is about how wishing to be somehow “better” is dangerous water to wade in too long because it often ignores what is so special and great about you that you should instead be leaning into.In this episode we discuss:How to lean into YOUR strengths instead of strong-arming yourself into your weaknessesHow everyone shines in different ways, and how someone else’s shine doesn’t mean that you shine any lessAlways striving to improve is great, but also dangerous long term if you don’t frame it properlyThe magic being unsure and not knowing where things will leadFree Workbook:Grab your copy of my FREE workbook, “Kill The Hustle: You’re Marketing Your Business All Wrong” https://www.bareminimumbabe.com/killthehustleCheck out the episode notes: bareminimumbabe.com/post/problem-wishing-betterIf you liked this episode please pass it to a friend you think it could resonate with and leave a 5-star review :)Bare Minimum Babe contact:www.BareMinimumBabe.comEmail us at: [email protected] @bareminimumbabe

You Should Keep Your Day Job And Here’s Why Ep. 28.

Eating Ramen noodles, sleeping under your desk, and going “all in” have been romanticized and idealized as the only way to be successful and taken “seriously” as an entrepreneur and a business owner. I’m saying that’s BS. There are so many success stories of people working on their business in between their 9-5 and familial responsibilities. The problem: these stories aren’t glorified the way living off a friend’s sofa is. This gives us a skewed perception of what building a business is, what we need to do to “succeed,” and guilt and shame if we don't live like this.In this episode we discuss:The realities of what it means to go “all in” on your business before you’re readyHow “Researchers found that those who kept their day job while starting a company were 33% less likely to fail than the ones who went all in”When you keep your day job you’re forced to be more efficient and purposeful with your time—this is a good thingFree Workbook:Grab your copy of my FREE workbook, “Kill The Hustle: You’re Marketing Your Business All Wrong” Related Episodes:Not Everything Is a Mindset Issue. Too often we wait for the perfect timing, education, financial backing, aesthetic, or even a hand-delivered invitation, to start or try something new. Providing Value vs. Proving Your Value. Ep.25

Is there anywhere you feel resentful that you’re giving more than you’re getting back? You might be too focused on proving your value instead of providing value. This was me. When I first started offering free consultation marketing calls to women business owners, I was subconsciously hellbent on proving I could help them. I would overdeliver like crazy and make them feel so nourished and that they had such a wonderful list of things to work on that they actually didn't see the value in working with me...so I could never convert them to clients...until I figured out what the problem was.In this episode we discuss:The difference between proving value vs. providing value and why that's such an important distinctionThe power of your own subconscious CTAKnowing your value and being strong in your languageWhy assuming a "yes" is such a game changerFree Workbook:Grab your copy of my FREE workbook, “Kill The Hustle: You’re Marketing Your Business All Wrong”Check out the episode notes: www.bareminimumbabe.com/post/providing-value-vs-proving-valueIf you liked this episode please pass it to a friend you think it could resonate with and leave a 5-star review :)Mentions in this episode:Dallas Travers: https://dallastravers.com/Bare Minimum Babe contact:www.BareMinimumBabe.comEmail us at: [email protected] @bareminimumbabe

Not Everything Is a Mindset Issue. Ep. 24

The remedy to any problem we have these days seems to be “you just need to change your mindset”—Bonus points if that person is selling you something. This mindset mantra, in a lot of ways, tells us that our feelings and experiences are either not relevant or invalid. What if what I’m saying is legit? What if I’m in an awful situation surrounded by awful people and I need to make an actual change, NOT just change how I feel and think about it? Don’t get me wrong, mindset is definitely important, but it’s not the cure for EVERY single problem. In this episode we discuss:The most often talked about mindset issuesThe link between toxic positivity and mindset mantrasBeing “enough” is the key to a positive mindset. Today we’re talking about the constant woman vs. woman comparisons, how stupid and unhealthy that is, how to quickly kill these thoughts and feelings, and to connect with other women in a more authentic way. EPISODE 3: You’re not original and that’s okay, it’s hip to be square

Did you know you steal all the time? It’s usually a subconscious act and it’s why we think unlike anyone else on this planet and we couldn’t possibly be influenced by anything or anyone. But this is a lie. We steal from others all the time. We steal their ideas, their clothes, their thoughts, their feelings, their way of speaking, everything. We discuss how we can make this stealing a conscious act that we use to our advantage, how not even Thomas Edison or Beyonce are original, and how it’s not the stealing that’s the problem, but the fact that we often don’t give credit where credit is due.Subscribe to the podcast and go to our website to sign up for our weekly newsletters to be updated on the latest episodes and get extra goodies.Discussed in this episode:“Steal Like an Artist” by Austin KleonCanva.com“Atomic Habits” by James ClearThe Twelfth House by HolisticismDevil Wears Prada (sweater scene): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja2fgquYTCgWhat We’re Loving Right Now:Book: Homegoing by Yaa GyasiMusic: Heaux Tales, Mo’ Tales: The Deluxe by Jazmine SullivanNote taking software, NotionBare Minimum Babe contact:Our websiteEmail us at: [email protected]

EPISODE 2: Thing 1 vs Thing 2: Making tough choices…not as cute and fun as Dr. Seuss made it seem

Have you ever been torn between 2 ideas, people, things, places, cats, whatever? Of course, you have, you're a human being and want multiple things at once ALL. THE. TIME. In this episode of Bare Minimum Babe™, we talk about the hard job of being honest with yourself to figure out how important something ACTUALLY is to you vs. how important you think it SHOULD be important to you are very different things and how this honest look is crucial in decision making. We also discuss what the sunk-cost bias is and why that sh*t will sink your battleship, and ask the question..."if an idea came to you...is it always meant to be born? And if so, does it have to be born through you?"
