Coping with Loss or Upheaval
I recently went through a difficult upheaval where I had to move my family in a short amount of time. The stress from that situation could have sent me into a tailspin. Instead, I channeled my energy into my inner health and focused on the things that needed to get done.There are some major factors when you're learning to cope with something that could be very negative. First thing is you need to gain some control of the situation. The key here is that you can only control your response to it, not whether the situation happens.It helped me a lot to make lists to keep track of what needed to get done. I ended up with - wait for it - 38 lists! Each week had its own lists, tasks separated in my planner, so I could keep track of what was happening, nothing was left out, and everything was done.Another thing I could control was my self care. As a mother, wife, daughter, it always fell to me to be of service to others. I didn't appreciate myself and I didn't have a relationship with myself. Today we have a question from one of our listeners, Melissa.Melissa asks, "How do you beat inflammation, protect ligaments during exercise, and what are inflammation fighting foods?" Inflammation. What is it, exactly? Inflammation refers to your body's process of fighting against things that harm it, such as infections, injuries and toxins, in an attempt to heal itself. When something damages your cells, your body releases chemicals that trigger a response from your immune system. Today we'll just be introducing this podcast, what it's all about, and a little about me.Some of my health history:15 years ago, I found myself morbidly obese at 144 kilos. I was a mum of two kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder and I was raising them virtually alone. I was becoming unwell with multiple lifelong health conditions. I was in a very traumatic marriage. Ten years ago, I discovered how much the body really wants to heal. I actually lost half my body weight and started learning all I could about mainstream health, fitness and personal development. Five years ago, I was told what I was doing wasn't working. Yes, I was losing weight, but I was a very sick woman. So they actually told me I had 12 months to live. I had stage three cancer, diabetes, Cushing syndrome and they diagnosed me with Lyme disease.
