Justice for Dione Begay Thomas
Dione Begay was born on March 28th, 1975. She was the eldest of six children and is described by her sister Christine as having a positive perspective on life and a witty sense of humor which is missed by her loved ones. Dione was beautiful, vibrant, outgoing, intelligent, and family-orientated. She was a mother of four daughters and had unique, close relationships with her entire family. Dione had several tribal connections via her parents, Debbie and Laffie Begay. Dione’s mother Debbie is part of the Dakotas ‘Yankton’ and ‘Arikara’ tribe, and her father, the ‘Navajo’ and ‘Dine’ tribe. As a Native American woman, Dione Begay is one of many Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in New Mexico who is yet to receive justice, despite the brutality inflicted upon her and the obvious circumstances of the crime. Her family's pleas for help have also continued to be ignored. Justice for Tyra Perry with Navigating Advocacy
Angels' Voices Silenced No More is a non-profit organization that raises funds to help families in New Mexico who are fighting for justice pay for: TherapyFuneral expensesDNA TestingPrivate InvestigationsAwareness campaigns and moreToday I am joined by Navigating Advocacy and we are bringing you a 35 year old cold case that needs justice. Check out my friends Whitney and Melissa at: https://navigatingadvocacy.com/Tyra Perry's case becomes the focal point of "Action Oriented Advocacy," shedding light on her life, the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, and the subsequent murder investigation. The narrative reveals contradictory statements, potential suspects, and the passage of time that has left the case unsolved for 35 years. Despite challenges and limited media coverage, the group tells the importance of not forgetting victims like Tyra Perry and others impacted by violence in Albuquerque. The story then describes advocacy groups' efforts, like the New Mexico Crusaders for Justice, and their collaboration in organizing a "honk and wave" event to draw attention to victims of violence and demand justice and change. The event's success in bringing together over 60 people, including family members of other victims, underscores the commitment of these advocates to seek resolution and raise awareness about the impact of violence on their communities. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4347262/advertisement

The Indian Child Welfare Act
Hey True Advocates. It's me, Eric Carter Landin, and before we get into the episode, I wanted to give you some context into why we decided to cover this. A lot of people were talking about the June 15th, 2023 Supreme Court decision on Haaland vs Brackeen case which upheld the Indian Child Welfare Act. ICWA is a very important legislation that is related to the sovereignty of the First -Nations Jackie and I were talking one day and she had expressed to me that she wanted to really dive into why the Indian Child Welfare Act was so important to upholding sovereignty for native tribes, and of course, I immediately agreed. I want to thank Jackie Moranty for researching and writing this script. But I also wanted to just set the context because this episode is a little bit different from most of the episodes that we do, but it is advocacy related and it does affect New Mexico.I'm happy that ICWA was upheld by the Supreme Court. It was the right decision. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4347262/advertisement

A Statute Without Limitation - The Mike Snyder Story
Hey true advocate,It's me, Eric Carter-Landin, and today we're gonna be talking about a case that has a resolution to it already. Now, oftentimes I will cover a case that has a resolution to it, when it makes sense, and when it is something that illustrates a legal complexity or a legal issue in New Mexico that I thought was either interesting or pertinent This case that we're gonna cover today is somewhat related to my baby brother Jacob Landin's case, and I'm not gonna go into that right now because I want to tell you the story of Mike Snyder. First, I want you to hear all about who he was and what happened to him. Before we get into the legal complexities and all of the things that may or may not be connected to my brother's case. But hopefully, I have your attention now., I don't want this to be diluting Mike Snyder's story in any way. The connection isn't really that deep. It just has to do with the law and the way it's being applied. But, Mike's story deserves to stand on its own. So I want to give him the due respect that he deserves, and his family deserves. I am Eric Carter-Landin and this is True Consequences.Promo: Navigating AdvocacyMike Snyder References:Court Recordshttps://www.krqe.com/news/politics-government/legislature/bill-could-eliminate-second-degree-murder-statute-of-limitations/https://www.criminaldefenselawyer.com/criminal-case-statute-of-limitations/NM-felonies-misdemeanors.htm#:~:text=6%20years%20for%20second%2Ddegree,third%2D%20and%20fourth%2Ddegree%20felonieshttps://www.santafenewmexican.com/opinion/local_columns/an-upset-special-cooperation-on-a-crime-bill/article_c819c1fd-a96e-5528-9eda-2b0c813aea34.htmlhttps://www.police1.com/legal/articles/retired-nm-deputy-looks-to-change-law-helping-killers-W2i8FTThHXyedL26/https://www.vizaca.com/mike-snyder-murder/https://www.newspapers.com/image/206431225/?terms=%22Mike%20Snyder%20murder&match=1&clipping_id=125482025https://charleyross.wordpress.com/tag/michael-snyder/https://www.glossyfied.com/from-convict-to-free-woman-catching-up-with-ellen-snyders-life-after-prison/https://charleyproject.org/case/michael-james-snyderhttps://www.abqjournal.com/45010/family-stung-by-plea-deal-in-killing.htmlhttps://www.happyscribe.com/public/dateline-nbc/the-secret-in-albuquerqueThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4347262/advertisement

The Pueblo Revolt
Today I’m going to tell you about one of the most significant events in New Mexico's history. The Pueblo Revolt. While the Pueblo Revolt didn’t permanently drive the Spanish out of New Mexico, it was successful in ending years of cruelty and exploitation of the Pueblo people by Spanish settlers. There had been several uprisings before the Revolt, but they had only succeeded in furthering the abuse. The Pueblo Revolt gave the Tribes autonomy and freedom. The Pueblo Revolt References:Link 1. Faith in Action Pt 7
Faith In Action. Part 7.This will be the final episode on the murder of Father Reynaldo Rivera. There were several twists and turns over the first years of the investigation and the police were overwhelmed by all the information and the leads that took them from New Mexico to New York, Arizona, and Montana. Some leads made no sense and others seemed fairly solid, and while no arrests were made, you can see that it wasn’t because the police were letting the case slide. Every lead had to be followed and they were.Check out Gone Cold.Check out Jackie's show! Thanks to Alex from Dos Spookquenos & Jt from Brew Crime. Get tickets to the liveshow here.

Faith in Action: The Father Rivera Story pt. 6
The entire city of Santa Fe was frenzied. Citizens of Santa Fe no longer felt safe. The peaceful, beautiful city surrounded by mountains, now seemed ominous. Even dangerous. No one went out at night anymore, and no one talked with strangers. Clergy from all over the state were on their guard. Many of them wouldn’t go out to minister unless they were sure where they were going and who they were talking to. Gone were the days of priests dropping everything to perform their ministry to strangers.Editorials in the papers and news reports reflected the urgency that the people of Santa Fe felt around the death of Father Reynaldo. People demanded justice. The Archdiocese was also putting pressure on law enforcement to solve this crime. Police were investigating every lead, even those that seemed false or outlandish, and they felt like they were chasing their tails.Save 10% on your Crime Con UK ticket using code "Consequences" Promo: Crime and Crime AgainSign this petition for social media companies to serve up missing posters in the algorithm.Come and see me and my friends from True Crime Bulls**t, Crimelines, Already Gone, True Crime Cases w/ Lanie

Faith in Action: The Father Rivera Story Part 4
During the 80s, six priests, including Father Rivera were murdered across the Southwestern US and Montana. For many years, it was suspected that their deaths could have all been linked in some way.I want to talk about the possibilities and the myths surrounding the connections between Father Reynaldo and these five other priests. There are distinct differences, not only in miles but in who these men were, who they claimed to be, and the connections that seem to get thinner and thinner as one digs deeper and deeper into Father Reynaldo’s murder investigation. These men were all greatly valued in their communities as ministers of the faith. Their parishioners feel their loss to this day. Please keep this in mind, as I tell these stories. This episode was written by Jackie Moranty. Introducing Cold Season 3
Sheree Warren left her job in Salt Lake City on a mild October evening in 1985. She told a coworker she was headed to meet her estranged husband, Charles Warren, at a car dealership. But she never made it, Sheree vanished. When her car mysteriously surfaced weeks later, hundreds of miles away in Las Vegas, no one could say how it got there. When a young mother disappears under unexplained circumstances, police always turn suspicious eyes towards the husband. And although there was distrust around Charles Warren, he wasn’t the only suspect when Sheree went missing. She also had a boyfriend, a former cop named Cary Hartmann, who lived a sinister double life. Season three follows two suspects– men who both raised suspicion for investigators. But with two strong persons of interest with competing facts and evidence, it muddied the murder investigation. This season, host Dave Cawley, digs into the lives of these two men, the details of the case and examines the intersections between domestic abuse and sexual violence. The COLD team seeks to answer the question: what really happened to Sheree Warren? Introducing- Suspect Season 2: Vanished in the Snow
For more than three and a half decades, the disappearance of 12-year-old Jonelle Matthews was a mystery – a riddle neither authorities nor her family members could solve. The residents of her cloistered Colorado hometown had scoured every inch of prairie. Jonelle’s face had been on milk cartons nationwide. Even the President of the United States had appealed to the public for help. Still, every lead had fizzled. Every person of interest had turned out to be a dead end. Then, in 2019, Jonelle’s remains were unearthed near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. With the discovery came a troubling new question: Had the truth been hiding in plain sight the entire time? Was the man who couldn’t stop obsessing over Jonelle’s disappearance also the person who took her? From Campside Media and Wondery comes season two of SUSPECT. Former CNN reporter Ashley Fantz and executive producers Matthew Shaer and Eric Benson (Suspect, Over My Dead Body) dig into one of the most mind-bending cold cases in modern history, in an attempt to separate fact and fiction, compulsion from guilt, and true-crime fandom from a motive for murder. MMIW Pepita Redhair
Today’s episode is a super important one. It deals with an indigenous woman who has been missing for over 2 years. On March 24th, 2020, Pepita Redhair was dropped off at her boyfriend’s house by her mom, Anita. She had been dealing with violence in her relationship for a while. Friends and family had noticed she would have bruises on her body. Her family was worried about her. They were worried for her safety. Pepita’s mom, Anita King, told Pepita that she could come back home and stay in her childhood room. Pepita wasn’t having any of that though. She was an ambitious young woman and had worked hard to be independent. Despite her fears Anita said goodbye to Pepita, not knowing that this would be the last time she would see her daughter for many months. The lack of coverage/concern by law enforcement and the media in this case is shocking.Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/705052330626989GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/6c2brx-missing-pepita-redhair?utm_campaign=m_pd+share-sheet&utm_medium=copy_link_all&utm_source=customerPromo: LA Not So Confidential:https://www.la-not-so-confidential.com/I am Eric Carter-Landin and this is True Consequences.

Justice for Marcos Baca
Today I am telling you the story of the hit-and-run murder of Marcos Baca. On the evening of November 13, 2021 Marcos Baca was returning from an awards ceremony and following his father home. Marcos was on his motorcycle when he was hit by a red light runner. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene. Marcos' family has been fighting for justice since that tragic night. Please help the family share Marcos' story to bring awareness and hopefully justice to this case. Thank you to the family of Marcos Baca for sharing his story. Taos Revolt
I wanted to go back and look at something historical to take a mental health break from some of the more intense cases. I have always been interested in what happened in Taos, New Mexico in the 1800s.The struggle between the US government and it's drive to own what is now New Mexico led to many bloody battles. This was a particularly intense one. Today we are discussing the Taos Revolt. Introducing The Execution of Bonny Lee Bakely
On May 4, 2001, Bonny Lee Bakley was found fatally shot in a car on a dark North Hollywood street. The prime suspect was her husband, famed actor Robert Blake. But Bonny, a longtime con artist, had plenty of enemies. She left behind a trail of men she’d scammed, and she had a volatile relationship with Christian Brando, the troubled son of movie star Marlon Brando. Not since the O.J. Simpson case had the eyes of the nation been so fixated on a homicide. The search for Bonny’s killer took detectives on an eleven-month odyssey across the country and through Hollywood's underbelly of hustlers, drug addicts, and would-be hitmen. It would be the most expensive murder investigation in LAPD history to date. This is the story of Robert and Bonny’s toxic relationship, her shocking murder, and his chaotic trial. Did actor Robert Blake kill his wife? Or was the murder someone else's vendetta? From Wondery, and the team behind the hit series Hollywood & Crime (The Dating Game Killer, The Wonderland Murders, Death of Starlet) comes a six-part series about love, obsession and fame gone wrong. Co-hosted by Tracy Pattin and Josh Lucas.wondery.fm/TC_TEOBLB

Jeremiah Valencia
Jeremiah Valencia had a terrible childhood, and nearly every adult in his life failed him in some way. There. It feels good to rip the bandage off and get that out of the way.Sometimes bold, declarative statements like that can rub people the wrong way — they tend to think you’re judging people too harshly. “Judge not,” they say. “Walk a mile in their shoes,” they say. If you know me, you know I’ve run a marathon in those shoes, listeners.“Surely there must have been a grandparent or uncle or someone who didn’t fail Jeremiah Valencia, right?” A 13 year-old boy is dead. The fact alone means nobody is innocent, and our first, reflexive, knee-jerk reaction should not be one of aversion and defensive posturing.Guilt is good.We should feel guilty. It’s our first step toward acknowledging that there’s something we could have done better for Jeremiah Valencia. There’s an old Buddhist passage that has been translated and interpreted with a different meaning than the original, but it is no less profound. Paraphrasing, it goes “Only three things cannot remain long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.”In the case of Jeremiah Valencia, nobody has the moral high ground to say they did everything they could, so I’ll say it again because it’s the truth. Nearly every adult in Jeremiah Valencia’s life failed him in some way, and it cost him his life. Our challenge now, as a community, is to accept our share of the blame and learn from it, so it never happens again. If Jeremiah’s story can teach us how to do that, then his death will not have been in vain.Today's sponsor is Magic Mind:Do More. Introducing: PERSONA: The French Deception
Introducing the true crime podcast Persona: The French Deception— the story of Gilbert Chikli, one of the greatest con artists of all time. What does it feel like to pick up the phone and scam someone out of $50 million? Host and award-winning journalist, Evan Ratliff, investigates how Chikli successfully duped some of the world’s most powerful people into handing over their fortunes. He explores how Chikli evaded the law for years and became a Robin Hood-like hero. More than just a tale of criminal genius, this is a show about the moment we’re living in right now — the golden age of scammers — and the power of seduction. But what happens when the fantasy we’ve been lured into finally crumbles away? For all that and more, follow “Persona: The French Deception” wherever you get your podcasts. Or you can listen early on Amazon Music or early and ad-free by subscribing to Wondery Plus in Apple Podcasts or the Wondery app: http://wondery.fm/TC_Persona

This is an excerpt from The Fall Line Podcast’s two-part series on the unsolved murder of Moses Williams Junior. It’s from Episode One: Fat Man On Super Bowl Sunday, 2012, a gunshot rang out across the darkened streets of Aiken, SC--and 19-year-old Moses “Fat Man” Williams Jr., a popular former high-school football star, slumped in the driver’s seat of his car.Though his girlfriend and her sister were no more than a hundred feet away, and he was parked in a busy neighborhood, no one could—or would—say who’d shot the young father, who worked seven days a week to support his family.
