i think i'm ageist...

i recently sat on a panel with ashton applewhite, the first "ageism activist" i've ever met. hearing her talk about how we're all conditioned to be ageist, and how ageism and ableism go hand in hand, was super eye-opening and thought provoking -- and i'm just going to be blunt about *all* the reflections i've been having about aging, age, and ageism. would love to know what you think!! these freaking meds...

i had a big self-care day of therapy and catching up with my psychiatrist. tldr i am, of course, still experiencing anxiety and depression symptoms, but frustrated by how i keep just getting pushed to increase my meds dosage. i want to work on the root of these symptoms and not just tack on band-aid solutions. my therapist also suggested ketamine infusion to work on some ptsd symptoms and i'm curious if anyone here has tried that before or know people who have? how i got my varsity letter

something you might not know about me is that i played on the boys' varsity baseball team in high school. what!? yeah, honestly it still surprises me and I still don't really understand why I decided to make such a big time commitment to something that i didn't have any prior interest in. in this episode, i reflect on past impulsive experiences that led me on unexpected journeys -- playing baseball being one of them.Host: Nadya OkamotoExecutive Producer: Nadya OkamotoProducer: Kelsey Klein, Larry ShapiroDistributor: RedCircleSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/tigress-by-nadya-okamoto/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

I’m a little overwhelmed…you?

For the last week, I’ve been feeling pretty overwhelmed, and had more than a few panic attacks. Between lunar new year, work stress, and personal things I’m facing, it’s just feeling like…a lot. And the news about gun violence in this country does not help. In this episode, we face these thoughts, instead of trying to avoid them, and I share some things I’ve been experimenting with for coping. Host: Nadya OkamotoExecutive Producer: Nadya Okamoto Producer: Kelsey Klein, Larry Shapiro, Kelsay Flores, Distributor: RedCircle Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/tigress-by-nadya-okamoto/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

A psychiatric update

As a result of my recent depressive episode, I made the decision with my new psychiatrist to adjust my anti-depressant dosage. It's hard not to feel like this is taking some baby steps back, but I know that this is the right thing for me and my mental health right now. And in just a few weeks, it definitely has made a difference. 12th period anniversary reflections

I've decided to take it back to the beginning and reflect on 12 years of my period anniversary! I remember getting my first period thankfully at home with my mom there. I go down a bit through memory lane and remember period moments in school and how I came to really embrace this change. Gonna be honest I never expected periods to be my career but life is funny like that. So let's sit down and talk about it. finding mental clarity after burnout and depression

you met Darius last week when we unpacked our past hookup – this week, we’re changing gears and digging deep on the subject of mental health and how it relates to community. i’m a believer that therapy can heal and Darius is too–now having completed 10 months with his therapist he talks realizing his depression, the burnout that sent him escaping from the country, talking with kids about social and emotional learning in his professional life, and why you should “speed date” to find the right therapist. many of you have seen my boyfriend on my social media, but what you don’t know is that just hours before i met him, i woke up in bed with my close friend, Darius Baxter. Darius and i decided its time to unpack that night where we found ourselves hooking up and how one simple move in the bedroom prompted a day-after conversation that would ultimately change the way we interact with sexual partners and push us to consider what consent looks and feels like for us as individuals. Saving face: learning to open up, publicly

*CW: This episode includes mentions of CSA and self-harm. i’ve personally struggled with drugs and alcohol as a method of escapism from trauma and ptsd. activist, organizer, and model jeannie jay park can relate, after going through own complicated journey with substance abuse & coping with trauma. but one of the most important things we’ve both learned is that sometimes you have to open your mouth to save your ass, so we’re ready to speak publicly about just how challenging its been and what we’re doing to take care of ourselves now that we have a greater understanding of the places we’ve been and the ways we’ve been conditioned.  Jeannie Jay Park on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeanniejaypark/?hl=en More of Jeannie's work: https://linktr.ee/jeanniejay Executive Producers: Nadya Okamoto, Adell Coleman, Brittany Temple Senior Producer: Quinton Hill Producer: Kelsey Klein, Larry Shapiro, Kacey Lee and Maiqi Qin Distributor: DCP Entertainment Learn more about your ad choices. Bad Asian? Badass Asian.

I grew up feeling like a ‘bad asian’ – but connecting with asian-american activists who fight for racial equality and representation has transformed my belief on what it means to me to be asian-american. Jeannie Jay Park had her own complicated journey with her asian-american identity, which ultimately led her from modeling to activism and organizing, which we get into in today’s conversation. Jeannie takes us back to her childhood where she first witnessed her korean heritage interacting with whiteness, the internalized racism that manifested in her life, and how she confronted that racism, began to heal the trauma, and uses it to push forward in her activism.   Follow along with Jeannie on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/jeanniejaypark/?hl=en Executive Producers: Nadya Okamoto, Adell Coleman, Brittany Temple Senior Producer: Quinton Hill Producer: Kelsey Klein, Larry Shapiro, Kacey Lee and Maiqi Qin Distributor: DCP Entertainment Learn more about your ad choices. myth-busting BDSM with Kim "mommy" Pham

what role does power play in intimacy? this is a question i've found myself asking a lot in my own pleasure research. bdsm is an acronym that comes up a lot in conversations about power play and sex. it stands for Bondage and Discipline, Dominance and Submission, Sadochism and Masochism -- a lot of big and complicated words! but what does that actually mean? today i sit down with my dear friend and fellow aapi founder to talk all about bdsm and how her own experience has influenced her personal and professional lives. Stay safe out there

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been feeling even more nervous walking around nyc as a young Asian American woman. Everyday i find myself having conversations with peers of mine trading notes about what pepper spray purchases to make, and trying to coordinate group self defense classes. Whether or not authorities will label recent killings of Asian women in NYC as racially motivated or not, I’m feeling deeply affected by the events especially with our shared identity. diagnosed

when i share my mental health diagnosis, the most common response i get is 'i'm so sorry.' even therapists remind me not to feel ashamed of my diagnosis...before i've even said anything, assuming that the acronyms associated with my mental health are an obvious source of shame. ptsd, bpd, adhd...these are all labels that actually supported me in my journey because they gave me language to FINALLY understand what the f*** was happening in my mind and gave me a pathway to work off of for treatment! in this episode, i talk more about this and also share about how i feel similarly in discovering more language to better describe my sexuality.
