Ep. #061 - Countering Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) with Special Agent Robert Waltman
In this episode of Standing Post, we're joined by Special Agent Robert Waltman, who discusses one of our lesser known programs: Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS). This initiative focuses on countering the emerging threat that drones, with their small size and high speed, pose to our protectees. As an expert in the technology--Waltman started using drones when they were known as multi-rotors and required pilots to build them from parts off the shelf--he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience about this issue, and tells us a little about his non-traditional path to becoming a Secret Service Special Agent.
If you have an interest in drone technology in an exciting and challenging environment, consider a career in the Secret Service. We’re expanding our Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems program to include special agents, officers and technical professionals that are familiar with drones and want to have an impact in the world. You can start your Secret Service journey at secretservice.gov or usajobs.gov.

Ep. #057 - A Refugee's Dream with Officer Leth Oun

After years of brutality, he was able to flee Cambodia and made his way to America as a refugee, settling in Maryland. He learned English, graduated from high school and college and eventually joined the Secret Service after the September 11 attacks. As he prepares to retire after two decades with the agency, he sat down and discussed his life’s story, an incredible tale of overcoming adversity and trauma.

In the April 2023 episode of Standing Post, we sit down with Financial Analyst Andrew Frey to discuss a new type of cybercrime called Pig Butchering. Criminals executing a Pig Butchering scam have to use a lot of charm and technology, sometimes human trafficking, and they have yielded millions of dollars in ill-gotten gains. This is a fascinating episode that really shines a light on crimes that many people have never heard of.

February 2023 Update
Update for February 2023
I apologize to everyone expecting a new episode of Standing Post this month. We had an opportunity to build a dedicated studio for podcasting and other video projects and it took up quite a bit of our time. However, now that it is built and we have a new home, I think we will be able to expand our ability to tell stories in both audio and video formats. This is an exciting new chapter for Standing Post and I look forward to sharing more stories in new formats with you.
Special thanks to Uniformed Division Public Information Office Paul Mayhair who did the brunt of creating this new space, transforming it from a storage area to a soundproof room with modern sound dampening tiles and green screen capabilities. Paul, I promise, I'll get to that cable management soon. Also, I need to think the Communication and Media Relations leadership for letting us take over that space and trusting us to build something useable.

Ep. #048 - The History of Secret Service Firearms with Armorer Bill O' Rourke
Episode #048 - Please welcome USSS Armorer Bill O’ Rourke to the show. O’ Rourke has been with the Secret Service for more than 30 years as an armorer at the James J. Rowley Training Center (RTC). During his tenure, he’s seen extensive changes to the organization, including the transformation of RTC from a one-building structure to a multi-acre complex responsible for most Secret Service training. O’ Rourke has also been a part of several firearms changes in the organization – and he and his four-person team have personally every service weapon in use today.
Our conversation with O’ Rourke is a great look into a little known area of the Secret Service: weaponry. He talks about the transition from revolvers to automatic weapons, the changes in calibers and even how ammunition is tested. There’s a lot of science in ensuring that every weapon in the agency fires accurately every time.

Ep. #001 - Welcome To Standing Post with DAD Ronald Layton
Ep. #001 - Welcome, thank you for taking the time to listen to our very first episode of the new Podcast, "Standing Post." In this first episode, we introduce you to the Deputy Assistant Director, Ronald Layton. With Ron’s help, we will take you through a brief history of the agency, his personal journey on becoming a Secret Service Special Agent, what it’s like behind the scenes, and some interesting facts you may not know about the people, mission, and our historic organization that was created by President, Abraham Lincoln hours before he was assassinated.
Hosted by Cody Starken, he delves into the iconic United States Secret Service; an organization usually kept very private by its workforce. Wherein, he takes the listener on a journey with him to discover the unique people who champion the agency every day and make up the extraordinary, 153-year-old federal law enforcement institution it has become.
Special thanks to our guest Ron Layton for his time and support.
Special thanks to James Morrison and Gary Byrne for their subject matter expertise.
Special thanks to the executive leadership of the U. S. Secret Service and the Office of Communication and Media Relations for their encouragement and dedication to this endeavor.
Hosted, and Edited by: Cody Starken
