Inside the new Canada Soccer documentary with Max Bell

Welcome to episode 22 of Kicked Back Presented by Uber One!This entire episode is dedicated to Canada Soccer and all of their recent success! Caroline had the privilege to chat with Max Bell, founder of Offside Creative and Writer / Producer of a weekly seven-episode digital series about the CANMNT's qualifying campaign for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. What I really love about this "WeCAN" documentary series is that we are offered a different perspective on this Canadian team. We know about all of their success on the pitch, winning CONCACAF and qualifying for the first World Cup in 36 years but now we also have an opportunity to get to know this team behind closed doors. Max shares his incredible journey and story in the sport of soccer / football. His relentless commitment, dedication and passion for Canada Soccer from a young age, along with his incredible filmmaking talent, has given him the opportunity to work with the organization since 2009. I highly recommend checking out the WeCAN documentary series that can be found on the Canada Soccer YouTube page! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Salah Shows Up, Barcelona Crumble & Canadians Thrive

Yesterday was another extraordinary day in the UEFA Champions League.Mo Salah and Liverpool showed up in a huge way in Scotland, beating The Rangers 7-1 at Ibrox. It wasn't all pretty for Liverpool either who found themselves down 1-0 thanks to a Scott Arfield (Canadian) goal. However, the big guns showed up for Liverpool in the second half with Robert Firmino, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott getting goals, along with a six minute hat trick from Salah. Could this now be a turning point in Liverpool's season?Group C is easily the group of death in this season's competition and last night we had Inter Milan travel to Camp Nou. Barcelona needed a win to keep their knockout stage ambitions alive. Unfortunately for them, Inter had other plans scoring three goals to give themselves a late 3-2 lead. One player that did show up for Barca was Robert Lewandowski. A late equalizer gave Barcelona a point; however, they now need Inter Milan to lose their final two games to progress to the last 16, which feels like a tall ask. Finally, Caroline and Liam closed out the show talking about Napoli's dominance, the success that Canadians have had in the competition and they ranked two more teams in their Uber One Power Rankings Hosted on Acast. The journey has been long, but after 36 years away, Canada is returning to the World Cup stage in Qatar next month and to fill us in with everything that has happened is none other than Alistair Johnston, the starting right back for the men's national team. Johnston gives great insight into what it has been like for the Canadian's starting from their opening games of World Cup qualifying to their most recent games versus Qatar and Uruguay. He explained how the team has prepared in the lead-up to the tournament through video, documents sent to him by John Herdman, and the games throughout qualifying. Johnston spoke in detail about his Canadian teammates Alphonso Davies, Tajon Buchanon and, his CF Montreal teammate, Kamal Miller. Manchester Is Blue

Once again, Manchester has turned blue after Erling Haaland and Phil Foden each scored hat tricks in their derby match versus Manchester United. It was a disappointing performance from the Red Devils after high expectations following a good run of form. However, Man City brought them back down to earth with a dominant display which leaves many questions to be asked of United, including what Cristiano Ronaldo and Casimero have to do to get into the starting eleven. Also in the English Premier League, Liverpool's struggles continued at Anfield drawing 3-3 against Brighton in Roberto De Zerbi's first game in charge. There are more questions than answers for the Reds at the moment especially defensively with Trent Alexander-Arnold. Former Manchester United and England defender, Gary Neville suggested that if Trent can clean up his game, he could be the best right back to play the game. Caroline and Liam gave their take on that soundbite from Neville. Finally, also on the show, Arsenal beat Tottenham in the North London derby helping Liam's predictions that they will be title contenders. And then to close out the show, they began their Uber One World Cup power rankings. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

What is going on with the US Men's National Team?!

Back-to-back days of Kicked Back! Caroline and Liam are here for another episode of Kicked Back with the main topic being the United States Men's National Football team. The team has struggled lately with only one win in their last five, which came against Grenada. The US has struggled to score goals after being shut out by Japan and Saudi Arabia in their last two matches. Is the issue with the players? Are they playing enough for their club teams? Or is it their manager Gregg Berhalter and his poor tactics? Caroline and Liam covered all of that in today's episode. Also, in the episode, they talked about the current World Champions France and how they have been struggling as of late. Since 2022 began, they have only beaten Ivory Coast, South Africa and Austria, which is way off their standard. What is the issue? Liam suggested that it could possibly be the number of mouths they have to feed. Perhaps it is time for Didier Deschamps to put his foot down. Finally, to close out the show, Liam and Caroline talked about a few of their favourite underappreciated players from years past and re-lived a few moments from their iconic careers. You can hear all that and more on today's episode of Kicked Back. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Reaction to Canada's international break

It was an exciting weekend for Canadian football fans with two matches against World Cup opposition. First came Qatar, the 2022 host nation, followed by Uruguay. Canada came away with a good result against the upcoming host nation, winning 2-0, but it did not go their way versus Uruguay, falling 2-0. However, despite the final score, Canada played well against the 13th-ranked team on the FIFA World Rankings. Caroline and Liam react to the weekend score lines and what Canada could take away from it. Liam also had a suggestion on what the best position for Alphonso Davies could be at the World Cup. Plenty of other international teams played over the weekend, too, including Liam's host nation England. Things weren't great for England, who were relegated to League B in the Nations League. While not scoring goals was an issue for England, most fans decided that Harry Maguire in the starting eleven for both games was a more significant issue. On the show, Caroline and Liam give their opinion on Maguire's future with England and what Gareth Southgate should do with his defenders. Finally, they dove into Argentina's chances at the World Cup, how the tournament could play out for the European teams and the criticism Cristiano Ronaldo is receiving. Hosted on Acast. Talking Canadian Soccer with Bob Lenarduzzi, former Canadian International

Caroline Szwed and Liam Horrobin were joined by a special guest today, former Canadian international Bob Lenarduzzi. Lenarduzzi played 48 times for the Canadian Men's National Team, which included a trip to the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. He re-lived many of those memories with us on the show and about Canada's path to get there. We went right back to the start with Bob and talked about his experience playing in England with Reading. He explained what the experience was like and how it all came about. He then spoke about one of his heroes, Alan Ball, who he watched at the 1966 World Cup, which England won. Fortunately for Bob Lenarduzzi, he and Ball played together with the Vancouver Whitecaps. He told a great story about what Ball once told him in the dressing room at halftime.Later on, we dove into Alphonso Davies's time with the Vancouver Whitecaps, the progress Canadian soccer has made, and how this is a fantastic time for the sport to be growing in Canada. You can hear all of that and more on today's episode of Kicked Back. Beckham the gentleman, EPL all star game & the fastest red card ever

After a brief week away, Caroline and Liam are back for another episode of Kicked Back with plenty to talk about. Last week, Liam took a trip back to his homeland of England for the first time in six years. During his trip, the unfortunate events of Queen Elizabeth II were taking place but one positive that came from it all was the actions of David Beckham. Beckham waited in line to say his final goodbye to her majesty which had the people of England bragging about how great of a man he is. That led to one of Liam's favourite moments from Beckham which came in an England shirt. Speaking of England, there was plenty of discussions this past week over the squad selection made by Gareth Southgate. Should Harry Maguire still be in the team? Why wasn't Jadon Sancho selected? Caroline and Liam talked about the decision made by the England gaffer.Another hot topic for the week has been should the Premier League start an All-Star Game? The comments on this have been mixed, to say the least, but Caroline and Liam gave a good perspective on what this could do for the league. Also on the show, they talked about World Cup kits, Juventus' poor form in Serie A and an incredibly fast red card in Ligue 1. You can hear all of that and more on today's episode of Kicked Back.  Hosted on Acast. I teased Gene a little bit about Italy not qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar but he's hopeful that the Azzuri will shine bright right here in Canada in 2026. We talked bout Gene's love the love of the game, how he didn't make his provincial team, his journey into refereeing and then broadcast. Napoli dominate Liverpool, Lewandowski strikes again & late drama in Madrid

Another exciting match day of Champions League football is behind us, and boy, was it a treat.A new duo has been born in Barcelona, with Robert Lewandowski and Ousmane Dembele putting on a clinic versus Viktoria Plzen. Barcelona put on a dominant performance against the Czech side, but how will they play next week against a much more challenging opponent in Bayern Munch? Speaking of Bayern, they showed their class by handing a 2-0 loss to Inter Milan at the San Siro.Rangers got an unpleasant welcome back to the group stages by getting hammered by Ajax. It was not pretty for the Scottish side, but fair play to Ajax, who many did not believe in after losing so many key players. The most important topic of the show was Napoli's convincing win over Liverpool 4-1. Jurgen Klopp said in his post-match interview that his team needs to reinvent themselves, but how will they do that? You can hear all that and more in episode 12 of Kicked Back. Hosted on Acast. Manchester United Splash The Cash

Manchester United opened the chequebook earlier today, splashing $100 million down for Brazilian winger Antony. Erik ten Haag has a history with Antony from his team with Ajax, which is a big reason why United spent so much money on him. However, many believe they are a massive overpay for the youngest, which is what Caroline and Liam discussed on the show. How does Antony fit into this Man United team? Where do the other young forwards like Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho play into this? In other Premier League news, Manchester City and Erling Haaland come from behind to beat Crystal Palace, Liverpool dominates Bournemouth 9-0 for their first win of the season, and as a result, Scott Parker loses his job with the Cherries. In La Liga, Robert Lewandoski bags another two goals for Barcelona, giving him four now in his first three games. In the last episode, Liam gave a bold take that the Spanish giants wouldn't get out of the Champions League group stage, but after two good performances, does he stand by his statement? Also, on the show, they discuss Lukaku's injury, the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, and how much longer Aston Villa should stick with Steven Gerrard. Hosted on Acast. Arguably the news of the summer emerged this week with Casemiro being linked to Manchester United. We all know the struggles United have gone through in the first two weeks of the season on the field; then add the players they've been trying to attract to the team over the summer, and none of them compares to Casemiro. Get Ready To Kick Back

Welcome to the Kicked Back with Caroline, Liam and special host Woz! Today's show is a get to know us show and we are so excited to get this project on the road. We covered a bunch of content on episode one from our early World Cup predictions to the situation going with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United. Caroline gave her reasoning on why she believes Canada could make some noise this winter in Qatar. The skill level is there for the Canadians but do they have enough to compete with the likes of Croatia and Belgium in the group stage? Liam seems to think so as he backed up Caroline's point. Sticking with the World Cup, they spoke about England's chance in the tournament along with Brazil and Argentina. Also on the show, Liam gave a steaming hot take on something that happened in the 2020 Euros when a certain English goalkeeper was snubbed of an award. He then brought up an interesting question, which tournament is harder to win the World Cup or the Euros? Finally, they closed out the show talking about Cristiano Ronaldo and what's going to happen with him at United. Woz, the resident Man U fan, gave his take on the situation and on how he's feeling about the upcoming season for the Red Devils. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
