The Cult Of Colt: Camp Dad Bod And Short King Spring
After an offseason with more downs than ups, it’s mercifully time for another Day 1 as the newly-minted Commanders suit up for training camp. Lest we be considered to be solely optimists here on The Cult Of Colt podcast, we take some time right off the bat to talk about what we’re most looking forward to with camp’s arrival. We’re feeling VERY high on the wide receiving corps and are buoyed by the fact that we don’t have to spend ANY amount of time thinking about contracts or holdouts for the best young star on the offensive unit with Terry McLaurin’s contract concerns a thing of the past. Scary Terry isn’t the only thing that offers hope, as we’re looking forward to a (maybe?) healthy Curtis Samuel, a hungry Dyami Brown, and the arrival of Jahan Dotson. While we may not be fully Wentz Pilled, we are starting to convince ourselves that there may be more there there than was previously considered there.
Elsewhere, we take some time to chat about our expectations for the defense and how it’s “put up or shut up” time for the oft highly-touted unit that has come up short of expectations despite its on-paper reputation.
It wouldn’t be a Hogs Haven podcast if we didn’t chat a little bit about our potential Mason-Brennan (our namesake!) candidates. It’s super early, but Josh Drayden, Percy Butler, and Jacub Panasiuk sure seem like rock-solid candidates for the annual award. We also take some time to recognize a returning candidate in Jaret Patterson, who once again sees himself on the bubble with lofty fan expectations.
While we’re not here for participation trophies, we’re very excited to christen the new Reed Doughty Award For Guys Who Are Still Somehow Here (working title) to commemorate year five of the Troy Apke experience.
On the other side of the break, we dove into some real good sports talk radio stuff and debate our picks for who we would pick to fill out the ten spots available to move from the 80 Greatest to the 90 Greatest. I’m not sure, but I think I may have gotten Gumbi to come around on Kirk Cousins (even if I don’t fully believe it with my full chest.) We also share our top snubs from the assembled candidates.
In all, we’re super excited to be back for another season of Burgundy & Gold football here on… the Cult of Colt.

The Cult Of Colt: What Says "Football" More Than Reading Footnotes?
Well, well, well, look who’s here? Bryan & Gumbi reemerge from our offseason slumber for another edition of the Cult of Colt Podcast and unlike the Commanders’ owner we’re here and we’re ready to talk about the past. It’s been another banner week in Burgundy & Gold land – you know the type, where there is A Lot Going On, but not much of it has to do with what our podcast is ostensibly supposed to be about, you know… football.
Instead, we’re forced to take a deep dive into the House Oversight Committee’s most recent testimony involving the NFL Comish himself and 29 pages of must-read evidence detailing working for Dan Snyder.
While the Ginger Hammer was forced to serve as a very-well-compensated meat shield for his bosses (the owners) he let us know that he is Very Disappointed And Concerned and will be Looking Very Seriously at the Commanders workplace issues but… also that there’s not much to see here, so move along.
On the other hand, we did the assignment and read through the report so that you don’t have to (but honestly, if you’re here and reading, you probably should?) footnotes and all. Much of what we found represents a very on-the-record public account of what we mostly already knew courtesy of some dogged reporting from the Washington Post over the past two years and some very courageous vocalization from those who have been impacted by the toxic work environment overseen by Dan Snyder since 1999. That said, were unquestionably some new tidbits that came to light that paint a fuller picture of the full extent of the shit-baggery in the halls of the team facility and of the team’s private jet.
Truly, who among us hasn’t put together a 100-page slide deck on our public enemies list? Totally normal stuff, huh?
So put your “Sell the Team Dan” shirt on, grab a stiff drink, and hang on… We’re getting downright litigious on this episode of The Cult of Colt.

The Cult Of Colt: You Need More Than Just Lemons To Make Lemonade
In this edition of The Cult of Colt Podcast, Bryan & Gumbi make change for a dollar and demand to get our quarterback! Ok, yes that was a ridiculous dad joke, but since 2017 the Red… ummm Football Tea…. Commanders (yes Commanders) have had 11 starting quarterbacks. So, we obviously have a massive problem that needs to be addressed right now. The team has just one shot to get this right and Riverboat Ron needs to go all in and give us fans a real chance of seeing a winning team.
Now, of course, as the philosopher, Ferris Buller once said “Life moves pretty fast” and nary a few hours after we recorded this episode deal no one saw coming; happened. We were absolutely blindsided by the trade for Wentz. So while we’ll of course have plenty to talk about on that front, we (spoiler alert) don’t do it here. But don’t fret! We still have some pretty good other stuff going on in this episode so give it a listen why don’t you?
The Guys then wander barefoot through their own Nakatomi Plaza known as Twitter, trying not to cut their feet along the way. We answer a reader question about what type of industry professional is just the worst on social media before we do a drive-by remembering of early-century Washington tight end Zeron Flemister.
So, grab a Pepsi clear and tune those AM radio knobs. The Cult of Colt is going back in time with quarterbacks that could have been.

The Cult Of Colt: Is A Winning Culture Possible Without Wins?
On this edition of the Cult of Colt, we've reached the "manic acceptance" stage of grief and made the affirmative choice to not wallow in our misery (well, not too much at least.) We cover a lot of ground in the shadow of the final home contest of the Washington Football Team era of the franchise and instead choose to look to the future.
We finally found some uncommon ground in the context of the sudden ouster of Antonio Brown in Tampa Bay, namely should WFT fans want him on the team, and what, exactly, does it mean when we hear from the likes of Ron Rivera and Jason Wright that they are attempting to "build a culture" in this franchise? It feels quite convenient to not define the problem -- is it that they have crummy guys with bad attitudes who don't win, or is it simply that not winning is the problem itself? While a guy like AB might be a solution to the latter issue, if you believe that a positive culture is independent of winning on the field, then at what point does having "good guys" trump having winners?
Finally, the news of the week is that there is finally a date to circle on the calendar to end our longstanding national nightmare -- 2/2/22 is very nearly upon us and the WFT will be... something else going forward. The rumors swirling are seemingly pointing in one of two directions (Commanders and Admirals.) For us, and for a sizable portion of the (online) fanbase, these choices are uninspiring at best. We discuss our feelings of the legitimacy of the team's claims that there were seemingly insurmountable challenges to attain what at least a plurality of the fanbase was hoping for in the Redwolves name. Finally, we engaged in a little thought exercise to choose what we would pick as the team's name if we were choosing from scratch (and not picking among the names that have already been discussed and at this point seemingly jettisoned.)

The Cult Of Colt: We're Not Dead Yet
Well, wouldn't you know? Despite still hosting a losing record, on the heels of a three-game winning streak the Washington Football Team has found themselves in playoff position (sound at all familiar?) On this edition of the Cult of Colt, Bryan and Gumbi take some time to break down the WFT's Monday Night Football victory over the Seattle Lead Balloons, er, Seahawks and share our thoughts on the good, the bad, and the ugly of this primetime victory. On the good front: we're ecstatic about the wide receiver play, namely the return of Curtis Samuel and the emergence of Adam Humphries as a reliable option for Taylor Heineke; J.D. McKissic's gritty "Chris Thompson-esque" play; and the energy of Ron Rivera in rallying the fans following the win. As for the bad... well, Washington still struggles to finish drives and we must ask, why don't teams just treat every drive like there are two minutes left in the quarter against the WFT secondary? It feels like it would be a winning formula. On the ugly, well, we get ready to welcome kicker number three, DMV-native Brian Johnson, following the injury to Joey Slye, and MAN are the burgundy-on-burgundy uniform sets just brutal or what?
We also took some time to look at the playoff picture, who needs to do what to make things better heading into week 13, and preview the Las Vegas Raiders. Finally, we have a little bit of fun with some off-the-wall mailbag questions and, after some difficulty, remember our Guy Of The Week: two-time SB Champion, and political-office-runner Clint Didier.

The Cult Of Colt: Home Is Where The Fans Are
The Colt of Colt is back with a surprise victory podcast following Washington's upset defeat of the reigining Super Bowl Champion Buccaneers. Gumbi had the opportunity to go to the game as part of a "VIP" experience, that in his opinion, left plenty to be desired. We get back on the wagon and rate a WFT-Themed brew, the Ale To The Redskins from Devil's Backbone brewery, and Remember a Guy from days of yore: Skip Hicks.

The Cult Of Colt: Former WFT-Cheerleader Melanie Coburn Is On A Mission, The NFL Better Take Notice
On this edition of the Cult of Colt podcast, we are joined by former "Redskinette" cheerleader and front office marketing director Melanie Coburn. Melanie, who spent fourteen years with the WFT organization, recently penned a piece in USA Today that generated waves and followed that up with a trip to Manhattan for the NFL owners' meeting, where she hand-delivered letters to request the league release its findings of their report into the workplace culture of the club, and in hopes of garnering more attention for her cause.
In putting together a Change.org petition, hoping to get 50,000 signatures to make the Wilkinson report public, she sums up her goal with one word: “Transparency. That’s all I’ve ever wanted. If the truth comes out, change will come, it will have to. When you read about and hear the stories that I’ve heard and I know, it can’t stay, the leadership has to go.”
Tune in to this can't-miss edition of the podcast as Melanie shares her story with us.

The Cult Of Colt: Criminal, Stupid, or Criminally Stupid?
Bryan and Gumbi are back in action for this edition of the Cult of Colt. There's been a lot of stuff to talk about over the past few weeks, little of it on the field, and less of it good. We take some time to share our impressions of the Jon Gruden email fiasco and the WFT's ongoing involvement in that saga. Gumbi is fired up about how the team has conducted themselves at every turn, the most recent insult to injury coming with the announcement that the team would be retiring Sean Taylor's jersey number (long overdue!)... just three days before the ceremony was set to take place (disgusting!) All in all, we're not in a great place as we try to unwind this ball of bull-shittery this week and determine what, if anything, we can do as fans to reconcile our fandom of a team that has laid bare their motivations to obfuscate and misdirect at every turn. For better or for worse, we did spend some time talking about the on-field product and took the temperature of the team at the five-week mark. In short, we're not sold on Taylor Heineke as the long-term solution just yet and are less enthused by what we've seen thus far on the defensive side of the ball. All of this is to say, that in our eyes culture change comes slow, but it comes from the top, and there are still mountains left to move to get this ship in the right direction. Perhaps right on queue as we were in the midst of rolling the credits, there was a breaking mea culpa of sorts from Jason Wright (very much the cannon fodder of the week) so stick around to the very end to watch us try to get that jammed in right at the last second (not too unlike the team and their plans for this weekend, huh?)

Rile'd Up: Being Wise in Washington
On this episode of Rile'd Up, Tiffany was joined by Daniel Wise, a new addition to the Washington Football Team's defensive front. Wise discussed his family and preseason in Washington. He is the brother of Super Bowl Champion and Patriots defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. His father, Deatrich Wise Sr, played for the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints. Wise accredits his mother as the driving force behind his family and his parents for his strong principles. He shared what he's learned from his brother and father and how he tackles mental health. Wise played for the Dallas Cowboys in his first season and is very familiar with the rivalry. He shared that he is excited to be a part of Washington's budding team and looking forward to engaging with fans throughout the season.

The Cult Of Colt: Going On The Record
On this lunch-break edition of the Cult of Colt podcast, Bryan and Gumbi are revving the engines on the podcast machine as we gear up for our second season on the 1's and 2's here at Hogs Haven. Our mission is simple as the NFL gets set to kick off this week -- get on the record with our predictions for the 2021-22 NFL season. While Bryan already did this with the other writers, Gumbi takes the opportunity to get in on the action -- despite not having a cheat sheet to work off of, there was a lot of overlapping consensus on our divisional winners (though the two of us have spent MANY years talking WFT football together, so there's bound to be an eventual singularity at some point...) After a brief sojourn to discuss Gumbi's impressions on the Tanya Snyder interview and potential name options still in the mix, we dust off everyone's favorite segment (they are all favorites, right?) Hail Yeah!/ Hail Naw! to guess the over/unders on some WFT-specific predictions for this season before diving back into the rest of the workday.

The Cult Of Colt: An Enigma Wrapped In An Enigma
Rumors of our demise were greatly exaggerated -- the Cult of Colt is back for season 2. Bryan and Gumbi return from our summer break and dive headlong into the WFT pre-season and our thoughts about what's to come in 2021. Topics on deck are a stacked, and now Steven Sims-less WR corps; offensive line issues and expectations; our pick for breakout tailback options (and our early Mason/Brennan pick); and what we hope to see from Ryan Fitzpatrick under center. We also return with a WFT-themed What You Sippin' On with the Escutcheon 4th & 1 John Riggins Pilsner, a beer that begs the question: how many US American dollars would you pay for this fine beverage inside of FedEx Field? We close out the podcast with (what we promise will be an infrequent topic of conversation) our upcoming fantasy football season and the Bryan vs. Gumbi week one matchup.

The Cult Of Colt: Naming Rights Or Naming Wrongs, Mocking Mock Drafts
After a few weeks on a break, Gumbi and Bryan are back with this edition of the Cult of Colt to celebrate the pending conclusion of the hellscape that is the pre-draft period in the NFL calendar year. We've made it clear in the past: we're not draft guys, at least not in the run-up to the event itself. While we recognize that there is a seemingly insatiable appetite for prognostication, you'll get the most honest pre-selection assessment of anywhere on the internet here, which is to say that neither we nor anyone else has any idea what in the world they're talking about. To that end, in this edition, we do reflect on the recent draft history of the WFT, where they've succeeded (mostly in the first round) and where they've disappointed (nearly in every other instance.) After a brief discussion of what we're sippin' on, we take some time to share our opinions on the 35-some-odd potential options being considered for the pending WFT re-re-naming; the good (????), the bad (Icons, Griffins, Armada, Razorbacks, Rising, Red- Anything) and the downright hilarious (DEMON CATS NATION RISE UP!) We close things out with a discussion of two former members of the Burgundy & Gold who hung up the cleats this season, Jordan Reed and Alex Smith, and consider their legacies in Washington and in the NFL.

Cult Of Colt: Fire Up The Time Machine, We’re Remembering The 2012 NFC East Championship Game
We’re at the time of the year when it can feel like watching football is something that both at arm's length in the somewhat distant future, and that has only happened in a distant memory. The post-Super Bowl-pre-combine period is when truly the hungriest of NFL fans feast for the game by eating pro-day tape. Here though, on the Cult Of Colt, we’re learning our strengths and know our weaknesses well, and for us to endeavor to break down Jay Tufele’s 40-yard dash technique or what Bill Belichick’s feelings on Mac Jones’ deep ball might be, well, we’ll leave that to those who claim to be the experts.
No, here on the Cult Of Colt, we’re not going to attempt to be something that we simply aren’t. Rather, we’re here to share our feelings, thoughts, and enthusiasm for the things that have the most meaning to us, and sometimes that means firing up the ol’ Throwback Machine and talking about the past.
On this edition of the Cult Of Colt, we begin a new yet unnamed retrospective looking back at some of our favorite games, moments, and events from Washington Football Teams of yore, starting with what is the highpoint of my WFT-fandom (and the high-water mark for many of my generation): the 2012 Week 17 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
While this contest happened just a little under a decade ago, re-watching it was akin to popping an old family home movie back in the VCR and letting the feels roll in again. For those who can’t quite put themselves in the headspace: this game was as big as it got. Washington was riding high, winners of five straight after starting the season 3-6, and had the opportunity to face their heated division rival for a chance to clinch the NFC East for the first time since 1999. Gracing the roster was a mix of well-established veterans like Santana Moss, Deangelo Hall, and London Fletcher; but what felt most exciting was the youth and high-ceiling talent from Robert Griffin III, Alfred Morris, Trent Williams, Ryan Kerrigan, and Perry Riley. In addition, two-time Super Bowl winner Mike Shanahan patrolled the sidelines surrounded by his own crop of up-and-comers including Offensive coordinator, Kyle Shanahan; QB coach Matt LaFleur, tight ends coach Sean McVay, and DBs coach Raheem Morris.
The good guys won, the bad guys lost, and the celebration was well-earned.
...and then...
And then we truly learned some hard lessons about the fleeting nature of success.
The chewed-up field ate Griffin’s knee the next week, the wheels fell off, the young stars left town or didn’t pan out, and the promising coaches in the in-house coaching tree left to make their mark elsewhere.
Perhaps it’s masochistic to continue to dwell on what was and what might have been, but isn’t that what being a fan is all about?
After our time in the memory vault, Gumbi and I jump back to modern times and discuss the news of the day: no, not Kyle Pitts’ cone drills, but the always-inevitable announcement finally made official by the NFL that the regular season is going to be expanded to seventeen games. While one might believe that more football = more fun, we think there’s a lack of feng shui that is going to take some getting used to.

Rile'd Up: Patience Looks Good on Washington
On this episode of Rile’d Up, Tiffany and Allana were joined by Matt Holmes of the Los Angeles Lakers. The trio discussed the latest additions and resigning players in Washington, and how this team can build off of last season’s plus sides. The addition of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Curtis Samuel, and William Jackson lll in Washington, shows just how great it is to be patient. Coach Ron Rivera stressed his desire to take his time and show poise in building up this team. While many fans and analysts tend to want the “big ticket” players in drafts and free agency, there is nothing wrong with weeding through the crowd to find the right fit for a growing franchise. Ryan Fitzpatrick comes to Washington a journeyman with a proven history of breakout seasons and excellent press. The type of press that would do Washington some serious good after the woes the franchise has experienced in the last couple of years.

"Colt" Cuts: We're Ready For The Fitzmagic To Happen
Fresh off the news that the Washington Football Team signed a 1 year-$10,000,000 contract, Bryan and Gumbi share their initial reactions to the signing in this "Cult Cut" from our March 19 episode of The Cult of Colt. While it may not be a "sexy" move (beard aside) our hosts believe that it makes sense for Ron Rivera and his plan to re-make the team with his grand vision. The Cult Of Colt: Starting Free Agency Sexy Outside The Lines And Thrilling Between Them
Round these parts, there is some healthy skepticism about what can and cannot be accomplished between the first week of the season and the last. While “Winning Off The Field” became synonymous with losing on it, the Washington Football Team under the new leadership of Ron Rivera and Jason Wright, gets their first full crack at improving a squad that saw their most successful season in years, and act quickly they did.
On this edition of the Cult Of Colt, we dive into the first few days of free agency and first and foremost offer our thoughts on the Ryan Fitzpatrick signing. While we agree it’s not a “sexy” pick, we can acknowledge that the opportunity cost was right on the money. For all the “what ifs” and “well they could’s” ultimately Fitzpatrick represents a relatively low-dollar, veteran, stop-gap solution who, and let’s not forget this: can still win games.
Given that the market has been set early with the Rams-Lions QB swap, the price to upgrade via trade was too rich for our blood (and clearly for the team’s) and the next cut of tradable quarterbacks (Sam Darnold, Marcus Mariota) could certainly not have been that much better (if better at all) than Fitzpatrick.
The other thing that has gotten lost in the fray in all of this is Ryan Fitzpatrick is fun! He’s a great interview, he’s a cool guy, and while there is unquestionably a sense of danger when he drops back to pass, the thrill of it all immediately makes WFT games more exciting by a fair measure.
Not to mention for anyone who is still calling for Taylor Heineke, this move also represents the best opportunity for him to earn the starting job at some point, and perhaps some point relatively soon.
Quarterback wasn’t the only position that’s been seemingly settled with an upgrade. The addition of Curtis Samuel to play opposite Terry McLaurin cannot be understated in terms of giving some much-needed breathing room to Washington’s star wideout. No longer can teams double him exclusively with safety help over the top, and while McLaurin is clearly excited to reunite with his former OSU teammate, he should be more excited at the opportunities to get open that this move will present.
We also took some time to look elsewhere around the league: the Patriots have left to stone unturned and no tight end roster-less, Dak got paid, and bless the Bears and their fans as... they got their man. Trent Williams finally got what he was looking for here in D.C., not just “the bag” but the contract to support his belief that he’s the best in the game at his position.
Finally, we take a moment to show some love to Nick Sundberg, the longest-tenured member of the team and perhaps one of the most reliable. His contributions didn’t go unnoticed, which is to say bless up to him for us never having to give a second thought to whether or not he could get the job done.

The Cult Of Colt: Thanking Alex Smith Is Easy, What Comes Next Is Trickier
There are some things that one simply can’t deny about the 2020-21 Washington Football Team. They outperformed all expectations. The team gave fans cause for optimism for the future. Ron Rivera showed in words and actions that he is committed to impacting cultural changes. Alex Smith was an inspiration and an aberration.
Now the league’s slam-dunk Comeback Player Of The Year looks like he’s played his last snap in Burgundy and Gold. Fans, management, coaches, and teammates alike have said all the things that you would expect them to say, have honored and celebrated Smith’s accomplishments, and have praised him for what he was able to accomplish, however as unique as his season and this season has been, there is a very familiar path that things seem to be headed on as player and club begin to grow further apart.
The operative question here for us is: what does the Washington Football Team (and its fans) owe Alex Smith for what he’s done and for what he could do in the future?
To that end, we look at the roster going forward and consider where Washington has another big decision looming large: what could (and should) they do about Brandon Scherff’s pending free agency.
While I believe that a player being franchise tagged once can be interpreted as a sign of respect, that second tag... well it’s nothing short of a slap in the face and a recipe for another messy separation down the line.
Finally, we have some thoughts on the “rumblings” and “murmurs” about a potential partnership between the current majority ownership group, and a potential bid by Jeff Bezos to become a minority owner of the team... As if there wasn’t enough future messiness to consider.

The Cult Of Colt: What Could, Should, And Will Happen In The Offseason Ahead
The “news” of the week (the one we recorded, not the one when we edited and published... it’s our offseason too) was the announcement of Taylor Heineke’s return to Washington on a two-year deal that is the culmination of an opportunity seized. While we believe it is highly unlikely that he’s “the answer” Washington is looking for, this certainly represents a low-cost/ high-potential opportunity and the Team will always take that opportunity cost (especially when it earns some goodwill among the fan base.)
Washington is not the only one with an unsettled QB situation, so we take some time to look around the NFL to compare the “haves” that are well-situated for this year and beyond and the “have-nots” whose questions outpace their answers. It’s clear that while the Washington Football Team is in the latter category, misery loves company.
Ultimately we’re realists, so we take some time to discuss what we want or hope to happen, and then put on our thinking caps to determine what feasibly could or will be the outcome for the WFT heading into 2021.
Plus: what to do with Alex Smith, Dwayne Haskins gets a second chance, Ron's grand plans, Tom Brady ate a strawberry, the NFL delivered on inventory, a requiem for Marty Schottenheimer, and Beer vs. Burbon vs. Scotch.

On this episode of Rile’d Up. Tiffany and Allana are joined by award-winning broadcaster, Kelsey Nicole Nelson. Washington has officially been given the number 19 pick in the 2021 draft. Nelson sees the team going after a wide receiver to help compliment Terry McLaurin and make the team appealing to free-agent quarterbacks if Heinicke does not remain the number one guy. Although this team made it to the playoffs there are some gaps on the offensive line, at the running back position, and in the secondary that will need to also be filled during the offseason. Nelson has covered a plethora of sports teams in the DMV area and spoke to the infectious nature of DC and all that this great area has to offer. Washington has so many intricacies and cultural beacons that have yet to truly be revealed to the world. The Cult Of Colt: What's That? Playoffs? (With Jason Curtis of Bucs Nation)
Against all odds, and despite (what seemed like at times seemed like) their best efforts, the Washington Football team is playoff-bound. While the arguments for their unworthiness are well-worn and have been oft-repeated over the last week, and indeed preemptively in the weeks leading up to the conclusion of the regular season, on this edition of The Cult Of Colt, we don’t apologize for doing what needed to be done in order to earn a division crown and to play at least another week of football in the postseason for the first time since 2015.
Gumbi and I were joined by Jason Curtis (@JCBucsNation), a writer, and producer for Bucs Nation, SB Nation’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers blog. Jason, who is a very good hang, is the co-host of the North & South Podcast and the Host of the Commissioner’s Corner Fantasy Football show on the Bucs Nation Podcast channel.
After letting Jason go on his way, Gumbi and I spent a few minutes of our time to reflect on the Eagles contest and the gripes (of the particularly loud variety from our friends up in New York) that the game, and indeed Washington’s division title, should be considered in some way illegitimate. We wholeheartedly disagree with this assessment and suggest that perhaps winning only six games and hoping for a little bit of help is not the best way to earn divisional supremacy.
We’ll be looking forward to Washington on Saturday night, and won’t let the nay-sayers prevent us from enjoying what was earned — there will be time for season retrospectives once the season is over — but for now, we’re in full playoff mode.

Rile’d Up Podcast: Will Washington Finish The Job?
The Washington Football team has a big game ahead of them. They go up against Philly on Sunday, and luck needs to be on their side. This team has endured many obstacles, from Haskins to Coach Rivera beating cancer, and making it to the playoffs would be a huge win for the organization. Washington has put themselves at a 50 percent chance of making it to a playoff appearance, therefore a win in Philly is imperative. In this episode, Tiffany and Allana are joined by a rising star in film and television, Ryan Reeves. Reeves shared playoff scenarios and stressed the importance of a win on Sunday. Despite how far Washington goes, if they are able to solidify a playoff spot, it would be rather impressive.

The Cult Of Colt: From Under Center To Out The Door
It wouldn’t be a Washington Week 17 without a little bit of drama, right? After failing to get the job done in week 16 over the Panthers, the WFT needs a short memory to get right back after it with one more shot to punch their ticket to the postseason. Unfortunately for them, with the cancellation of the annual Mummer’s Parade (look it up) the Philadelphia Eagles aren’t the only ones who have a “no-hat rule” this week.
To that end, on this edition of the Cult of Colt, Gumbi and I were joined by the gracious and talented Brandon Lee Gowton. You may know Brandon as the Manager and Editor-in-Chief of Bleeding Green Nation, co-founder of BGN Radio, and co-host of The SB Nation NFL Show (also, he’s on Cameo!)
Despite coming from a “rival” NFC East blog (though it’s obviously more of a “peer” site,) Brandon is very much the realist when it comes to the Eagles and the disappointment that they have caused this year. Whereas we might look at the Eagles last three seasons and see more playoff appearances that Washington has had in over a decade, Brandon pulled no punches and has taken a “burn it down and salt the earth” approach, maintaining that the Super Bowl honeymoon period is very much over. To get a sense of where things are for Philly and their fans, Brandon’s “11 Things I Think” piece from this week is a must-read.
Of course, we talked a fair amount about the quarterback(s) situation — theirs and ours, and how all things considered no one is terribly thrilled with the state of affairs. While Washington gets prepared for Jalen Hurts, who is beginning to build confidence in his play and the fanbase’s confidence in him, Brandon believes that the Eagles defense senses blood in the water, and it’s not just coming from Alex Smith’s leg. While Carson Wentz is very much on everyone’s mind, and Brandon sees no easy solution to some very expensive roster problems that GM Howie Roseman has gotten his team into.
Even with their playoff hopes dashed by the Cowboys in week 16, Brandon believes that the WFT is going to face a highly-motivated Eagles squad, no matter how much it would benefit all parties involved (save for the Cowboys and their fans.)
After letting Brandon go about his way, Gumbi and I took some time to do a mini post-mortem on the Dwayne Haskins Jr. era. Gumbi offered a full retrospective and detailed the downfall from the beginning of the end to the last straw. While I certainly don’t disagree with the final outcome and knew it was only a matter of time, I can’t help but hope everything turns out okay for a local kid who clearly has some growing up to do.
Thanks again to Brandon for his time, and of course his cheesesteak recommendations.

Rile'd Up: Goodbye Dwayne Haskins
Time to say goodbye to Dwayne Haskins. The Washington Football Team officially released Haskins. Allana and Tiffany are back with another exciting episode of Rile’d Up. The duo unpacks why Washington decided to dismiss the quarterback. In this conversation, Matthews expressed that he’s happy to see Haskins leave in order to get Washington back on the map to win a Super Bowl in the future, hopefully. Matthews reminds Allana and Tiffany that Haskins has had multiple chances and is not producing. He also delved into how Haskins has conducted himself off the field, which became another red flag. He also evaluated free agency prospects like Cam Newton or Carson Wentz, rather than attempting to take another quarterback late in the draft. Matthews is excited to see what’s next for Washington and hopes that Haskins will use this as a learning opportunity.

The Cult Of Colt: Making Things Harder Than They Need To Be
There are a lot of things worth celebrating these days as it relates to the WFT: Chase Young and Brandon Scherff being named to the Pro Bowl, Ron Rivera's completion of cancer treatment, the return of Alex Smith to the football field, and of course being on the precipice of a division title. Unfortunately, as they are wont to do, the WFT made some big waves off the field this week in a way that casts a shadow over these would-be bright moments. Following yet another Washington Post report on Dan Snyder's misdeeds and Dwayne Haskins... stimulus package, on this edition of the Cult Of Cult, we ask why can't this team get out of its own way and make it easy to be a fan, even in the best of times?

Rile’d Up Podcast: Is it Safe to Breathe Yet?
Tiffany and Allana had to “put their money where their mouth is” in this episode of Rile'd Up. The pair were task with defending both Ron Rivera and Alex Smith against their guests’ pessimism. Rivera is looked at as a shoo-in for coach of the year and the Segment's Fred Nettles believes that when it is all said and done Brian Flores will be signaling to Rivera to “hold his beer.” He spoke to the elementary program that Flores has turned into an 8-5 team, however, he was reminded of the short amount of time Rivera has taken to turn Washington into a potential playoff team. Things got even more interesting when the topic of Alex Smith’s impact arose. With the Seattle Matchup approaching and the race for the NFC East still pursuing, Washington will need to pull out all the stops. T

Rile'd Up: Well, They Wouldn’t be the First .500 Team to Win a Playoff Game
The NFL Network’s Jim Trotter, joined Tiffany and Allana to discuss the ailing NFC East and how Washington still has a chance at a playoff run, even if they only win five games. Trotter has been in the world of NFL football for many years and feels as though Dwayne Haskins was given the short-end of the stick in Washington. He believes that the narrative about trusting Haskins, should have been the same from beginning to end. He goes on to mention a potential goal of having Kyle Allen replace Haskins from the very beginning. He is unsure whether Dan Snyder will continue to be the owner for many seasons to follow. In mentioning the allegations against Snyder and whether they will produce any movement from the league in the near future, he likened the situation to the investigation being done on Robert Kraft following his arrest a year ago. While many have made it a Thanksgiving tradition to watch the rivalry between Washington and the Cowboys, due to both teams poor performance this season, it’s not certain many will be tuning in.

The Cult Of Colt: Is Alex Smith The Starter For Good, Or Does Haskins Stand A Chance?
So much for the post-bye week boom. Two weeks after stomping the Cowboys, the Washington Football Team came out with a thud falling to the New York Football Giants and dropping to 2-6. On this week’s edition of the Cult Of Colt, we put to bed the idea that the playoffs are still in reach — as if you needed to hear that from us.
Insofar as one can really breakdown the performance against New York, we do that. The key story of the week was obviously Alex Smith filling in once again in relief of Kyle Allen, and this time it looks like it may be a more permanent solution. While Smith posted the best stat-line of any WFT QB this season, his two late-game INTs sealed the deal for the three-point loss. This begs the question: is the quarterback play truly the biggest issue, and therefore the most pressing one, to resolve on the WFT roster?
Four weeks ago, Gumbi and Bryan identified this four-game stretch as the most crucial one of the season, so now with a 1-3 record in the rearview mirror, we grade the team out over the course of those contests.
We repatriate one of Bryan's favorite segments with some major questions for the rest of the year as we ask: Hail Yeah… or Hail Naw?

The Cult Of Cult: Bye Week Scaries
The Washington Football Team is on their bye week, but the Cult of Colt charges on in this super spooky weekly edition. It seems only right to take a step back and get to know each other a little bit better (well, allow you to get to know us a little bit better.) In addition to our fan favorite (and ours if we’re being completely honest) “What You Sippin’ On?” we play everyone’s favorite first day of class ice-breaker: two truths and a lie. Gumbi seemingly has avoided several life-threatening catastrophes, while I have a few near-misses of my own.
Because it’s a football-free, or WFT-free Halloweekend, we chat about Gumbi’s best-loved holiday, and have a rapid-fire back-and-forth on our spooky favorites: Halloween candy, movies, and best haunts for spooks and frights.
Gumbi also has a very funny Halloween-related Michael Wilbon/ WFT cross-over story.
Eventually, yes, we do talk about football and the WFT’s shocking and dominating win over the rival Dallas Cowboys last week. We give props where they’re due: the Washington defense has met, if not exceeded expectations this season but have some tough sledding ahead of them with the season-ending injury to Landon Collins. We do a deep dive on Jon Bostic’s bone-rattling hit on Andy Dalton, and reflect on the rules changes for defenders in the NFL and how that has impacted the game over the last 20 season. To that end, highly recommend this 2007 piece from Sports Illustrated’s Tim Layden who breaks down the anatomy of “The Big Hit.”

Washington Football Team Legend Darrell Green, joined Tiffany and Allana on this episode of Rile’d Up. Green is a man of extreme faith and closeness with GOD, and in this episode he does not refrain from sharing his testimony. He believes everything in today’s society would be a lot better if people treated each other with a respect and equality that GOD envisions for the world. The last time Washington won a Super Bowl, Green was with the team, and they haven’t been able to get back to that level of play since. He points to the new character of players and the world in general as a detriment to breaking through this losing streak. The Cult Of Cult: The Art Of Performative Pettiness
In a year when not much else has stood out for the Washington Football Team, pettiness has been in no short supply.
On this edition of the Cult Of Colt, we have lots to break down both in the short term — a laugher of a loss against the St. Louis Los Angeles Rams last weekend — but also the bigger picture of what has, and continues to go south in Ron Rivera’s first season at the helm. The topic of pettiness was the central driving factor in our conversation, with the Rivera-Dwayne Haskins Jr. connection as Exhibit A. Neither party is faultless in what is fast becoming a toxic relationship. Rivera has found a way to poison the well, tanking any value left for potential suitors of his inherited young quarterback on the open market. Meanwhile, Haskins’ move to unfollow the team and his teammates on social media drew the ire of otherwise loyal followers. From the perspective of we two “olds,” this move does come across as immature and not something that we would do given the circumstances, but we do recognize that the youth shall inherit the earth and the mechanisms of conflict escalation and resolution can come in different forms between different generations. To that end, we discuss whether or not Dwayne Haskins time in Washington is in essence over, of if there is any hope for reconciliation between the former first-rounder and his childhood club.
We covered a lot of ground on this episode, but we would be remiss if we didn’t pay attention to the story of the week, if not the year in Washington: the return of Alex Smith to a professional football field. We spent a good amount of time discussing our feelings of seeing Smith trot back out behind a turn-style offensive line, and what it means to the team, to him, and to us, to see him back out there. While for us (and his family who the broadcast kept on cutting to) there was a feeling of abject terror, it is undeniable that with his return, Smith has re-written the narrative of his career and cemented his legacy.
A brief programming note: going forward we’re going to make an effort to include a full transcript of each episode available on the Hogs Haven post where the episode is hosted. We recognize that it’s a little bit sloppy (it’s a semi-automated solution) but we’re working on improving access to audience members who are hard of hearing or in the deaf community and really feel compelled to listen to us talk about the WFT — who are we to stop you from doing that? The Cult Of Cult: So What, Exactly, Is The Endgame?
You’ve heard the news and are likely still processing, but sometimes it helps to have a buddy to process things with. On this edition of the Cult of Colt we talk about the only thing on everyone’s mind this week: the fact that there are no good fantasy football running backs to speak of. I mean what is that??
No, but actually, this week we devoted our full attention to the mystifying decision at hand to bench the previously ordained Quarterback Of The Future in Dwayne Haskins Jr. in favor of backup Kyle Allen. Anyway that you look at it, the rationale lacks clarity, and believe me when I say that we look at it from all angles this evening.
As the saying goes, this team makes us drink. Gumbi came prepared with the Hershey’s Chocolate Porter from Yeungling, I joined him with another PA-inspired beverage, the Philly Special from Iron Hill. You gotta do what you gotta do when it comes to The Washington Football team.
In what has been dubbed in as many words an rebuilding year (or we can use their terminology up until yesterday of an “evaluation” year) things have kind of made sense: the coaches have assembled a series of young players who make up for an otherwise lack of earth-shattering talent with a desire to prove themselves for the years to come. They allow those players to show their mettle, they sink — or they swim, and one way or another there is a pool of evidence and tape to evaluate and make decisions based off of for the years to come.
Then came yesterday’s decision to bench perhaps the singular player whose lack of experience needed the most evaluating, thereby taking what was a straightforward, albeit somewhat ugly, process, and removing the rudder directly, leaving the future directionless and floating adrift.
There are now more questions than answers, and even fewer paths to finding those answers for the future. Join us as we try to make sense of that which is seemingly senseless this week on The Cult Of Colt.

The Cult Of Cult: The WFT Should Play One More Game At RFK
The WFT is who we thought they were, but what are you gonna do? Bryan and Gumbi are back to chat (briefly) about a disappointing (albeit not unexpected) loss to the Cardinals, what lies ahead against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday and a little After a little detour to discuss OBJ's... preferences. When you get two long-time fans of the franchise together for long enough, the conversation inevitably ends up in some familiar places -- namely discussing the misery of FedEx Field. We have some shared experiences together seeing the team play in Raljon, and are both former season ticket-holders who recognized that our wallets and our mental wellbeing is better suited by watching from home, that is -- before we had the choice. That said, we have a simple pitch to the WFT brass and Dan Snyder himself: play a game this season at RFK. While it would be a pure nostalgia grab, with the end of the once-historic and fan-beloved home on the horizon, why not try to get the band back together for one last time? We kick off the #PlayOneMoreAtRFK movement here and now -- we hope you'll join us!

Cult Of Colt: Ryan Kerrigan Eats A Healthy Sack Lunch
The Cult of Colt is back and undefeated following a shocking (?) week 1 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Gumbi and Bryan look back at the game that was and bow down to a dominating performance by NFC DPOY Ryan Kerrigan and the defensive front seven. While we are in the majority of folks who didn't see our first victory Monday coming so soon, we dive deep on the good (the defense), the bad (the running game), and the ugly (anything related to Eagles fans.) While Dwayne Haskins did enough to "not lose" the game, we offer our grades (on the curve of course) and consider whether this style of play is going to be satisfactory a month or two down the line. In addition, after considering the opening week win, we revisit our pre-season win predictions to see if we should have been more optimistic. Gumbi has some words for the haters who disagreed with his Troy Apke assessment, as well as some praise for the aforementioned Troy Apke. We look to the week ahead as the WFT takes on another team that is 1-0 following an "upset" victory, as Kyler Murray and the "upstart" Arizona Cardinals are next on the list. Finally, after having so much fun doing some Guy Remembering last week with our Mason/ Brennan nods, we decide to make a habit out of it and Gumbi shares his fond affinity for one of his all-time Burgundy-and-Gold favorites, Super Bowl-winning safety Brad Edwards.

Hogs Night: A Porkcast — What's In A Name (Change)?
The Porkcast crew is back, and finally ready to talk about the thing that’s on everyone’s mind: the future of the Washington Redskins — specifically the state of the “name change” debate. It’s looking more and more like a rename and rebrand are a foregone conclusion, and we want to take a moment to discuss our impressions of the movement thus far, to offer up a little bit of a historical perspective, considering the grassroots vs. corporate nature of pressure to act, and to consider what this means for the team and fanbase going forward.
We tackle three big questions on this episode: you knew that the name had to change in order for the team to move back into DC — would that sway your opinion? What team name do you want to see (and what will we see) when the re-brand happens? And finally how important is it to you that the team keep their current colors and iconography / is this an opportunity to establish some “DCynergy” with a similar color scheme to the other pro teams in the area?

Hogs Night: A Porkcast — Never Tell Me The Odds
It’s been an excruciatingly long offseason, and it’s added insult to injury the Porkcast crew has had to refrain from enjoying each other’s shared company — but never fear, Zoom has our back as we return for the first of many offseason digital get-togethers.
On this week’s episode we dive in to the recently announced Vegas lines for each opponent next season, and to put it lightly the oddsmakers don’t seem to have a lot of confidence in your 2020 Washington Redskins. The Redskins are favored to win just two games this year and are double digit underdogs five different times including a matchup at home against the Ravens. Our Porkcast veteran gamblers Beege Roomba and Nedbot Neal offer their impressions of the Vegas negativity, and share their strategies when it comes to gambling on the Redskins, while Dr. Jones declines to engage in such antics both out of principle and due to emotional ties.
Moving on to roster news, Ron Rivera reunited with a familiar face in quarterback Kyle Allen, and we break down our impressions of what this addition says about the Redskins confidence with Dwayne Haskins, and similarly the direction they’re going to take going forward developing their second-year draft pick. Neal shares his willful ignorance about the upcoming draft, Bryan is all in on a defensive line that could feature Montez Sweat, Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis, and Chase Young, while Chris shares his reflections of watching his Clemson Tiger take on Tua Tagovailoa.
Finally, we close things out with the most significant phenomena of 2020: the madness that is Tiger King.

Hogs Night: A Porkcast — Ripping Off The Band-Aid, A 2019 Season Review
Another season, another decade, and another “era” is in the books. Bryan from HH, Dr. Jones, Beege Roomba, and Nedbot Neal are back on the horn with another episode of Hogs Night: A Porkcast to offer our reflections on the 2019 season, the end of the Bruce Allen era, and the beginning of Riverboat Ron Burgundy’s tenure at the helm.
We kick things off by reflecting on highs and lows of the season, and acknowledge that the 2019 Washington Redskins maaaay have peaked a little early, namely 30 minutes into their week one matchup against the Eagles. While there is a bright side in not being a .500 team, there certainly is some collective optimism about the prospects of “Spooky” Scary Terry McLaurin in the years to come.
Similarly, with the end of the semester it’s time to give Dwayne Haskins his report card. There were some differences of opinion on how he graded out, ranging from a C/C- to a “gentleman’s B” — if you’re grading on the curve. Maybe next time around he’ll come to office hours a little bit more and we can see a bump in his QB GPA.
Finally, the big news of the young offseason was of course not just Bruce Allen’s ouster as President/ Failson In Chief, but the heads that rolled all the way down to the training staff. While there is a general enthusiasm for Ron Rivera coming in and throwing out the locker room ping pong table, Bryan has a general skepticism of whether or not the conventional wisdom of treating grown men like college kids is what might right the ship.
We want to thank all of you for tuning in this season and hope you’ll keep an eye (or rather, an ear) out in your feed as we have some fun stuff planned for this offseason!

It’s a new day and a new era of Redskins football in Washington. Thursday, the Redskins officially introduced Ron Rivera as head coach. Rivera, known for his toughness and ability to build a positive team culture, is now the face of what should be an exciting time for Redskins fans.
Rivera’s hire also alters the history of the Washington Redskins. Rivera is the first minority full time hire as head coach in Redskins history. This is a big deal on many fronts and we’ll discuss why in the podcast.

Rile'd Up — Has Haskins Turned The Corner?
Two straight wins by the Redskins has fans with mixed feelings. On one hand, the Redskins have shown signs of life after spending the majority of the season in a coma. On the other hand, the wins hurt the teams prospects of picking in the top 3 of the upcoming NFL Draft. However, one thing that can not be debated is that starting quarterback Dwayne Haskins has improved markedly since taking over as starting quarterback. But, has he shown enough to the team and the fanbase to warrant being THE guy in 2020?
In this edition of The Counter Trey Podcast, we talk about Haskins improvement. We also discuss why this QB situation reminds us of the RG3 Kirk Cousins debate.

Hogs Night: A Porkcast — Misery Loves Company, With Former Gang Green Nation Managing Editor Scott Salmon
The Hogs Night: A Porkcast gang is back on the one’s and two’s to chat a little bit about the Washington Redskins and the District of Champions following the ‘Skins loss to the week 11 loss to the New York Jets. We were joined by friend in real life, but not of the show, Scott Salmon (somehow Esq.,) the former managing editor of Gang Green Nation and Bryan’s fellow Franklin & Marshall Diplomat.
Scott came out of retirement to rub a little salt in our wounds after the Redskins dropped to 1-9 on the year, but gracefully ate a little crow at disappointment his New York Football Jets have brought this season. While the Redskins have had their fair share of QB turnover and injuries, the we chatted about how the Jets have the sole distinction of having both start out with a kiss (how did it end up like this?!)
We rounded off the evening with Scott’s outsider perspective on what there is to like about Washington’s prospects, and a mini-rant about Braylon Edwards before a free word association of “JetSkins” i.e. former players who have graced Burgundy and Gold and Green and White, including The Diesel, Santana Moss, Laveranues Coles, Mark Brunell, John Hall, and of course The Sanchize.
Many thanks to Scott for taking the time out to join us on the show, and for you civically engaged Garden Staters to check out his newest project, Politically Driven.

The Counter Trey- Do the Skins Regret Drafting Haskins?
At 1-7, the Washington Redskins need to be focused on the future. Coming into the 2019 season, that future included rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins. But, in limited action, the rookie quarterback has looked, well, like a rookie. Most recently, reports have surfaced that Haskins isn’t picking up the playbook as quickly as many in the organization had hoped. With the team needing to fill multiple holes on both offense and defense, in addition to a potential top-5 draft pick in 2020, leads me to wondering... Does the team regret drafting Dwayne?
In this weeks edition of the Counter Trey, I give you my thoughts on Haskins (if you’ve listened before, my stance doesn’t change). I’ll also delve into the mismanagement at the trade deadline by Bruce Allen and the Redskins brass. Finally, we’ll look at the Trent Williams situation. Who’s to blame? Hogs Night: A Porkcast — Winning Solves Everything, A Conversation With Niners Nation
While the Redskins took on the Vikings on Thursday night, the Porkcast crew was welcomed by a special guest to dissect the prior week’s performance, a sloppy, messy, mud-fest between Washington and the San Francisco 49ers. Oscar Aparicio of the Better Rivals podcast from Niners Nation shared his reflections on the contest and some insights on how the season has gone thus far for a squad that others may have slept on.
Ever the gracious guest, Oscar called out some the highlights of the Redskins’ performance and offered an outsider’s perspective on the bright spots for the team, namely why Matt Ioannidis is underrated even by our own standards.
We offered up a hypothesis, that these two squads are not all that dissimilar: with young(ish) disliked owners, stadia far geographically removed from their downtown locales, and with a wealth of history and success that seems increasingly distant in retrospect. Oscar, however, offered his thoughts on why despite these similarities the 49ers are better positioned for the future, and what the Redskins need to do to get back to a winning culture that can remove the bad taste from the fan base's collective mouths.
Finally, Oscar makes his case to the Porkcast for why we should hop on the Niners bandwagon for the second half of the 2019 season.

United returning to the post-season, the Wizards firing of Ernie Grunfeld, and the glory of the a first-year championship of the Valor. Yep, everything’s coming up roses.
And then there are those other guys.
It’s been a few weeks since we last got on the horn to discuss your Washington Redskins, and in a season where not much has happened, there was a reversal of course. We chat about whether or not we have seen, or should see the last of Jordan Reed in burgundy and gold (or in the NFL at all), whether it’s time to cut bait and move on from Trent Williams (we should!), what the Jay Gruden firing represents (little!), what the win over the Miami Dolphins means (less!), and what are our reasonable expectations for the next 365 days for a franchise that is in a very dark place, with a culture that seems more damned than damn good.

The Counter Trey Podcast: Where Do We Go From Here?
Monday morning the Washington Redskins fired head coach Jay Gruden in the midsts of an 0-5 start to the season. While, the change at head coach lends itself to the hope of a fresh start, there's no reason to believe the organization will get the next hire right. That is because, leadership at the top has failed the Redskins for the last decade.
Team president, Bruce Allen, met with reporters Monday afternoon. During his tenor as team president, Allen has a .429 winning percentage. He has also oversaw the mass exodus of business executives, the firing of Scott McCloughan, in addition to ZERO playoff wins during his tenure.
In this edition of The Counter Trey Podcast, we lament Allen's time in charge, we discuss Dwayne Haskins, and where the Redskins go from here with their impending coaching change.

Hogs Night: A Porkcast — Are We Ready For Some Football?
No bones about it, the Redskins have put themselves in a self-dug hole. After falling to the Dallas Cowboys to fall to 0-2, Washington has their work cut out for them to right the ship and find a way to kick start their season.
On this edition of Hogs Night: A Porkcast, Bryan from HH, Beege Roomba, and Dr. Chris Jones share their thoughts on what’s gone wrong so far of the obvious variety, and where we’re more surprised on the 2019 Redskins’ weaknesses appear to be. Of note, after predicting a top 10 defense this season, Josh Norman and crew have not lived up to expectations and we’re left to ponder, what fixes are reasonable to expect to make this defense respectable again?
It’s been well documented that the Redskins have struggled on Monday night, but there’s some cause of optimism. We break down the Bears and consider what Washington needs to do to make the most of their primetime home game to avoid becoming a 0-3 team.

While Washington has an embarrassment of riches in the run game with a backfield seemingly over-flowing with talent, somehow they still found a way to be embarrassed by mismanagement, typified by the decision to sit Adrian Peterson altogether in favor of an exclusive early-down workload for Derrius Guice.

The Counter Trey: Zebras Overshadow An Exciting Affair In DC
The Redskins wrapped up their second preseason game of 2019 and there was a lot to like. The additions of Ray Horton and Rob Ryan to the defensive staff have played a major role in the buzz around the defensive unit. Washington showed a relentless pursuit of the football, that should pay huge dividends this season.
Additionally, the growth and progression in Dwayne Haskins from week one to week two of the preseason, should leave folks beaming. But, despite his success against Cincinnati, there’s plenty of evidence in the case against starting him week one of the regular season.
Finally, the NFL and its officiating crew had an awful night in Washington. But, their struggles could be something that carries over into the NFL season. Will the reviews of pass interference calls actually work? We dive into that as well in this week’s newest edition of The Counter Trey Podcast

Hogs Night: A Porkcast Ep.8 - Assessing The Redskins Beginning Of Free Agency... Hail Yeah, Or Hail Naw?
The Porkcast Boys are back, albeit a little undermanned with Bryan, Neal and Chris having a good old fashioned sit down to try to digest and take stock of the first two weeks of the offseason. We mourn the loss of Odell Beckham Jr. in his departure from the NFC East but turn our attention closer to home to discuss the Redskins maneuvers through free agency.
In our newest (and thus far only) segment, we go thumbs up/ thumbs down with a “Hail Yeah!/ Hail Naw!” and ask some of the important questions: What does Landon Collins’ signing mean for the Redskins defensive secondary? After presumably sipping some Pina coladas in the second half of the season can Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie be a helpful addition after coming out of retirement? What were our favorite Jamison Crowder memories? What does bringing back Adrian Peterson mean for what on paper is a very crowded and talented backfield? And who on earth is Case Keenum going to throw the ball to?

The Counter Trey - Ep. 3: Same Ol' Free Spending Redskins? I Don't This So!
Wednesday officially kicked off the start of NFL free agency, and the Redskins spent big money early. But, this time it feels different. Safety has been a glaring need for Washington for quite some time, and Landon Collins addresses that need in a big, big way. Additionally, looking deeper into the contract, it’s a huge for the Redskins. In episode three of The Counter Trey, we look at the numbers and why his addition fits perfect for what the Redskins need.

Hogs Night: A Porkcast Ep.7 - Making The Case For Case Keenum
The Porkcast Crew was blessed with some great timing, just as we were set to record our weekly shit-and-chat, the Redskins made a move to answer the biggest question of this offseason and made a trade for quarterback Case Keenum. We discuss how the trade allows the Redskins to tip-toe the sidelines of the salary cap in a forward-facing move that clears the way for Alex Smith’s return, should his recovery allow him to come back from serious injury, AND now how the Redskins can look forward to the 2020 Draft as being the potential time to land their next quarterback of the future.
In addition, we lick our chops a little bit at the prospect of the story line this will unravel: that the new Redskins signal-caller takes the locker of Kirk Cousins, who replaced him following the Minneapolis Miracle season that led them to the NFC championship game. It’s tantalizing to think that the role-reversal was at a $81 million difference between the two players. Finally, we ponder what does this mean for the other questions marks on the offensive side of the football. While there are still some unknowns regarding who will line up at wide receiver this year, we now know that there is some stability at the quarterback. Could this make the Redskins a more favorable destination for pass-catchers to sign, be it Antonio Brown or otherwise?

The Counter Trey Podcast Ep. 2 - Is A.B. A Fit For D.C.?
The Washington Redskins come into the 2019 season with several question marks. While, most of the conversation centers around the quarterback position, the Skins face needs at wide receiver. In Episode two of The Counter Trey, we question if Steelers wide receiver, Antonio Brown, is in play.
Brown comes into the 2019 season on the heels of his sixth straight 1000 yard receiving campaign. Brown’s 1,297 receiving yards last season, was double Washington’s leading receiver. Washington also faces the potential loss of wider receiver Jamison Crowder due to free agency.
But, questions remain regarding Brown. What would it take to pry the wide receiver from Pittsburgh? Additionally, can the Redskins locker room handle Browns personality?

The big news of the week was off the field as the Redskins made several moves that indicate that the front office remains set in their ways: first by cutting perhaps a Pro Bowler to be in DJ Swearinger for his post-game comments (not an isolated incident), and further the axing of several operations and marketing staff members after just a few short months on the job. Finally, we turn our eyes to week 17 and discuss what the Redskins have to play for against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Bryan, Chris, Neal and Brian of the Burpcast gang are joined by special guest, Brother Mark for tonight's episode.

The Boys' Night a Burpcast Gang brings you the first ever episode of Hogs' Night a PorkCast. Bryan, Brian (not related), Neal (related), and Chris introduce themselves and give a little background on our fan backgrounds before jumping right in to discuss the 'Skins season thus far (through the first fourteen games), the state of the quarterback situation for both now and in the foreseeable future, a very bad week for Montae Nicholson, and whether or not the Redskins are "Winning Off The Field." Finally we close things out with a preview and predictions for Washington's match-up with the Tennessee Titans.
