Difficult-ish is a project hosted by Mohuya and Mashnun, two young Bangladeshi-American artists, focused on deconstructing the narrative of what is means to grow up in a South Asian/Desi household, and building the idea back together using blocks from two different journeys. They speak upon taboo topics in the South Asian/Desi community including mental health, independence, creativity, and identity enrichment, while never forgetting to keep things silly and light-hearted, just to show how understanding these ideas may not be as difficult as we believe. an honest conversation on poor eating habits as a south asian
this one's a solo episode by mashnun on something so many can relate to but more than often goes undiscussed; how bad eating habits and an unhealthy living can manifest in south asians. i recently got on the keto diet and it's been making me think about the relationship i've built with food and eating throughout my life, and it's been relieving finding answers to many of my questions. generational trauma, a scarce upbringing, and the over-examination of self are all contributing factors to the toxic relationship i've had with eating, but at the end of the day, we're always in control of our own habits and i hope you can take something away from this talk :) listen for a blueberry!!!

inspired by my boxing coach violating me for my subpar boxing skills, this solo episode is on handling criticism :/ being criticized is something i've always had difficulty accepting, but as we all know is vital to our growth and development. south asians can struggle with it the most cus of the insufficient ways we've been critizied by our family/community growing up, so my story is not unique, but surely one we can all relate to. tap in and share thoughts!

ep. 111: what's the american dream for POC's?
we always hear about 'the american dream' and how our parents moved across the world and sacrificed their livelihoods for us to achieve this ideal life. but it wasn't until we got older where we realized that our versions of the american dream is completely different than what we saw on western media and also what our parents expected of us. it's not really about having a white picket fence and it's not really about becoming a doctor to help our parents' reputation, but something completely different. so let's talk about it.. what is the american dream for POC's and south asians? hope u enjoy this episode and as always, pls share your thoughts!! :)

ep. 110: why do brown people strive for white approval?
hot topic for the first of 2024!! why do brown people feel the need to always please white people, and have the desire the satisfy them? we were inspired by a tiktok by @azitatoprahman who spoke about witnessing a ton of brown influencers and creators who built their platforms on the basis of being brown but have now been silent about what’s happening in 🍉. in this episode, we talk about where we’ve fell victim trying to please white people, brown on brown hatred, and how advocating for representation comes with responsibilities. listen to have a good day!!

ep. 109: the art of detachment + learning to love the journey
last episode of the year!! a lot has been going on and a lot has been on our minds so we wanted to spend this episode sharing a bit bout things we find ourselves closely attached to, how we end up with so much on our shoulders, and learning the process of detachment. whether its detaching ourselves from being so result driven, from family expectations, or just any external source that has too much control over us, the art of detachment is powerful and one that all south asians should practice. this one's kinda all over the place, but we hope you can take something out of our ramblings and have it mean something special! happy new year ily

ep. 103: opening up bout our adhd + ocd
mental health is a huge brush stroke topic that we hit on every now and then, but we finally chose to spend an episode talking bout how the two of us learned bout our own diagnosed (and ongoing diagnosing) mental health conditions. even though this kinda stuff can be tough to talk about we know it can be super relatable for our listeners and we should celebrate more normalized conversations bout it in the first place!! mashnun talks about his adhd, mohuya talks about her ocd, and we share the signs and symptoms we recognized that pushed us towards diagnosis. we hope you enjoy and we hope you're taking of your mental health most importantly <3

ep. 32: mental health, the influence of women, and writing 'serenity' w/ f.s. yousaf
farhan yousaf (@fs.yousaf) is a best selling south asian author of 4 poetry books, a mens mental health advocate, a lover of breakfast pastries, and one of the realest individuals we've come across in the south asian community. we're thrilled to finally have him on as our 3rd guest on the pod!!
recently releasing his newest collection of poetry titled 'serenity', farhan tells us his journey from living in a small rural community in jersey that wasn't accepting of his background, to becoming on the most known faces in the south asian writing space, fighting artists block, the influence of women and islam throughout his life, as well as his writing, and how the complicated relationship with his family and environment has carved out who he is today.
a majority of this pod is us yapping away, but we promise you'll find some gems if you listen close. farhan's very wise, sometimes corny, but someone that anyone could look up to, and we hope you enjoy listening to him speak just as much as we did <3
