Over Songs of Schulz (Pieśni według Schulza).
SONGS OF SCHULZThis is a stage hybrid - modern music with elements of theatrical play. 12 songs - about 70 minutes of live performance. One vocalist/actress, 5 musicians. Digital pictures as backgrounds. High culture and entertainment together. This is independent project from Poland - we are not formally connected (as a group) with any cultural institution.THE STORY...is stretched between the illness of father (transformation into a cockroach), odd family members (aunt Agatha, uncle Charles) and the neighbourhood that seems to be supernatural, full of hidden life and "fermenting desires". It's about adolescence when every emotion, every experience appears to be genuine; when your imagination could be the best refuge from the pain and dullness of everyday existence. Lyrics are based on "The Cinnamon Shops" - a book of short stories by Bruno Schulz (1892-1942), Polish Jew who was writing in Drohobycz (now Ukraine). The schedule of performance including lyrics and corresponding short stories: www.mqpl.eu/schulz/en/program.htmlTHE MUSICRather universal than Polish in kind. Fusion of rock, electronic & contemporary acoustic music. Sometimes dynamic, sometimes gentle. Once industrial but later swinging. THE TEAMFirst of all - Edyta Janusz-Ehrlich (vocals, an actress from The Miniatura Theatre in Gdansk). Bright, charismatic, sensual - simply fabulous. Pawel Szewczyk (synthesizers) and Pawel Hulisz (trumpet) - broad-minded classical musicians. Our rhythm section - experienced Robert Adamski (fretless bass) and rockin' youngster Tomek Paszko (drums). And the last but not least - Marcin Kulwas (guitars, composer & producer). THE FUTUREWe are going to gather our lyrics, music and pictures in a book with audio CD. "The Street of Crocodiles" is our first virtual single announcing this release (probably available by the end of June 2010).
