The first formation of Moon Mammoth was born around January 2006 in a birthday party at Montone (A very little town near Perugia, in the middle of Italy); The encounter beetween Gianluca Bargelli (Vocals/Guitar) and the noisy little group formed by Nìcola Mazzocchi (Rhythm Guitar), Giovanni Carini (Lead Guitar) and Alessandro Quartucci (Drums) was a lucky coincidence: they needed a singer, and Gianluca needed all of them; After the initial excitement it was necessary to recruity a bassist, one of the lack of the original formation; Gianluca bringed in Emanuele Martinelli, a friend of him. During the first months the only thing that was hearable into a little car box converted to a rehearsal room was just pure and total caos, justified in part by the relative inexperience and for the lack of instrumental practice of the newborn ensemble ; The first times passes on with a cover-based repertory and with seldom gigs at birthday parties till, in june 2007, Emanuele leaves the band for musical divergences; At this point Gianluca decides to play bass guitar temporarily. A first monicker was proposed for the band after tons of difficulties (and really ugly names!) : Black Midges; The first real gig of Black Midges is dated 20 august 2007, at the fifth edition of the music festival "L'altra festa" at Cagli, opening the event with two other bands, Drink Theater and The Ossmockers. As times passes, the collective begins to write their own music and the first song, "Leave me alone", represent a shy, contaminated blues-rock experiment; After a while, a promising bassist, Mattia Cianci, enters the formation learning quickly all the songs, letting Gianluca to switch back to the original voice-only contest. The next gigs touches,in spring 2007, various locals around Perugia; In this period, the name of the band is finally changed into Moon Mammoth, accordingly to the blues-stoner sound generated by Nicolà and Giovanni's Guitars; Sadly, Giovanni decided to leave the band to continue his soccer career. Nevertheless, Moon Mammoth becomes a quartet which keeps on playing around covers and self-writed songs. Stability and group understanding, by now consolidated, comes to another change with the departure of the lead guitarist Nicolà for the USA; The others decided to go on becoming a trio, with Gianluca who's both singing and playing (or at least, trying to..) guitar. Without Nicolà, the band's style becomes more experimental, far from the blues sound of the beginnings;  As a proof of this statement, three news songs were written in January 2008.At the present time, Moon Mammoth released their first demo "The first incision is always the deeper" under creative commons license.
