Years later, Pam's own mother died in a bizarre accident, all the while having hundreds of thousands of dollars waiting for Pam in life insurance and inheritances. Rock 'n' Roll Deaths & Murders

You've all heard the stories of rockstars dying in sudden, tragic and often mysterious ways. This week, Amy and Chris dive a little deeper into several shocking rock and roll deaths and bring you details you've likely never heard before.River Phoenix famously died at the Viper Room in Los Angeles, and you've likely heard the heartbreaking 911 call his brother, Oscar-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix, had to make moments before River was pronounced death. The story often goes that River overdosed after battle with a drug addiction, but the true story isn't so black and white. Did River OD at the club, was he poisoned, or was it something else entirely? Since the security tapes of that night were destroyed, we might never know the true story. But there's even more to the storyKurt Cobain was found dead from a shotgun wound and surrounded by drugs. There has been much speculation as to whether Kurt actually took his own life or if he he murdered, potentially by his own famous, yet troubled wife, Courtney Love. Kurt was known to have a severe heroin addiction stemming from chronic pain, and his music often alluded to suicide. But the circumstances and evidence in the case are murky at best. And finally, Jimi Hendrix died after taking too many sleeping pills and eventually choking on his own vomit, a tragedy. But did Jimi's nefarious manager actually have something to do with it? Mike Jeffrey was supposedly stealing money from Jimi and Jimi had plans to dump him as his manager. And the amount of wine found near his body, yet not on his system makes some believe he was essentially waterboarded by vino.Try 5 pairs of glasses at home for free at warbyparker.com/TRUEAna Luisa pieces start at $39 with sales up to 25% off. John Lennon Predicted His Death

In a 1965 Rolling Stone Magazine interview, John Lennon said something that eerily predicted the way he was going to die. He mentioned being shot "by some loonie" just a few years before he was shot to death by Mark David Chapman. This week on True Crime Recaps, Amy and Chris delve deep into that interview, as well as the life and death of the famous (and infamous) Beatle. You'll hear snippets from this prophetic interview as well as hearing from the killer himself as he explains his confounding motive, the unfortunate influence that J.D. Salinger's book "The Catcher in the Rye" had on Mark, and the final moments of John Lennon. Mark David Chapman is yet again eligible for parole in August 2022.Get 10% Off by visiting Betterhelp.com/recapsTake advantage of SimpliSafe’s Holiday deals and get 40% off your new home security system by visiting SIMPLISAFE.com/recap Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast for free wherever you're listening or by using this link: https://bit.ly/TrueCrimeRecapsPodcastIf you want to support the show, and get all the episodes ad-free go to https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/If you like the show, telling a friend about it would be helpful! The Smiley Face Murders

Are a series of accidental drownings actually the work of a cabal of killers? This week, Amy and Chris bring you the cases collectively known as the Smiley Face Murders, but there is not universal consensus that all these men dying in similar fashions is the work of killers. Chris and Amy walk you through the evidence that point to a gang of killers potentially targeting college-aged men throughout the country.Virtually every suspicious death goes like this: a young white male is found drowned after leaving a party. He is found with everything in his pockets except his phone. And nearby there is an eerily graffitied smiley face. New York detectives Kevin Gannon and Anthony Duarte, along with criminal justice professor Dr. Lee Gilbertson have devised this theory to explain nearly 50 similar deaths. But various police organizations reject the theory and believe them largely to be drunken accidents. So are all roughly 45 of these cases just a series of tragic coincidences or is there a serial killer or killers walking free among us?Right now, get 15% OFF sitewide with code HOLIDAY at BUYRAYCON.com/recaps Don’t fall for subscription scams. They claim to have found the true identity of the Zodiac Killer, a man called Gary Poste who matches the description and was around the areas at the time of the many murders. The Amazon Review Killer

Chances are that you've probably made a purchase on Amazon.com based on a glowing review. But sometimes those reviews hide something sinister. This week, Amy and Chris talk you through the terrifying case of Todd Kohlhepp, otherwise known as the Amazon Review Killer due to him leaving reviews on the popular commerce site for items that he used to murder at least 7 people. Todd was caught after they were able to track down a missing woman, Kala Brown, to his property. Kala was found chained inside of a storage container and having endured untold horrors for weeks. In between torturing and murdering people, Todd would leave reviews on Amazon for shovels, chainsaws, and other implements of death.Todd was convicted of 7 murders, but Todd has claimed many times that there are far more unidentified victims out there.Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Support the show AND listen ad-free here!: https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/Follow TCR on YouTube here!Follow TCR on Instagram here!Follow TCR on Facebook here! Learn more about your ad choices. Killer Moms - Darlie Routier, Diane Downs & Andrea Yates

This week, Amy and Chris profile 3 women who were all convicted of murdering their own children in gruesome fashion. In the first case, Chris discusses the murder of 5-year-old Damon Routier in 1996. Darlie Routier, Damon's mother, called 911 claiming that someone broke in and stabbed her and her children. But several inconsistencies led to Darlie being convicted of the murder and sentenced to death. Seems like an open and shut case, but there are many that believe Darlie is innocent and should be let out of prison. Darlie's other son Devon was also murdered, but Darlie was not tried for his death. In the second case, Amy discusses the case of Elizabeth Diane Downs who attempted to kill all of her children just to maintain an affair. Diane staged an attempted carjacking, shooting all her children and herself, then slowly drove them to a hospital. Her 7-year-old daughter Cheryl, was killed and her other 2 surviving children were permanently injured. And finally, arguably the most famous case of infanticide, Chris details the tragic case of Andrea Yates, the woman who drowned her children in the bathtub in Texas, claiming that Satan had instructed her to do so. The True Stories Behind Candyman Credits

If you've watched the recent iteration of the "Candyman" film, you might've been intrigued by the post-credits scene involving cryptic animations. Well, as you may have guessed, there are some truly horrendous true crime stories showcased, and Amy and Chris do a deep dive so you don't have to.The first case is of 14-year-old George Stinney, who became the youngest person ever executed in the United States for the murder of 2 young girls after he confessed. George had to be propped up on a Bible in order to reach the electric chair, but it is now clear that his confession was coerced from him through the use of starvation and other nefarious techniques. In the second case, Chris details the truly gruesome hate crime against James Byrd, who was tortured and lynched by dragging him around in their truck by 3 white supremacists after offering James a ride across town. This senseless act sparked outrage in the community and led to 2 of the 3 men being sentenced to death, the first case in modern Texas history of white men being sentenced to death for the killing of a black person. And in the final case, Amy and Chris bring you the case that inspired both the 1994 and 2021 versions of the film, the murder of Ruthie Mae McCoy. Ruthie had severe mental illness and was known around town for talking to herself and yelling at passersby. On April 22, 1987, attackers entered her home through a secret entrance behind her bathroom cabinet and murdered Ruthie while she called 911. When police arrived and no one answered, they simply left without checking on Ruthie. The case remains unsolved to this day.Plus, Amy and Chris leave you with some interesting facts surrounding the Candyman films.Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Support the show AND listen ad-free here!: https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/Get 10% Off by visiting BetterHelp.com/recapsIf you’re ready to save money on your Doordash orders, DoorDash is offering a FREE MONTH for DashPass right now!Follow TCR on YouTube here!Follow TCR on Instagram here!Follow TCR on Facebook here! Learn more about your ad choices. Did Jeffrey Dahmer Kill Adam Walsh?

Adam Walsh was abducted , which ultimately inspired his father John Walsh to dedicate his life to finding missing people, most famously through the show "America's Most Wanted." In 2008, Ottis Elwood Toole was named as Adam Walsh's killer, but could a notorious serial killer/cannibal be the true culprit? This week, Amy and Chris detail the evidence that potentially points to Jeffery Dahmer being the killer in this decades-long cold case.It may sound outlandish, but Dahmer lived in the same area where Adam Walsh was abducted and there were multiple witnesses placing him there. This week, Amy and Chris discuss the mystery of The Watcher, a supposed family who has been keeping guard of a Westfield, New Jersey home for over a century.Derek and Maria Broaddus purchased the home in 2014, and that's when their nightmare began. Even before they were able to move in, they started receiving letters with creepy messages, referring to them as "young blood," hinting at secrets hidden within the walls, and making it clear that they were watching them as they moved around the house. The situation got so out of hand that they decided to sell the home at a loss. So who is the Watcher? We may never know.Plus, in a bonus story, Amy details the List Family Mansion murders, which is only 10 minutes away from the Westfield Watcher home. On November 9, 1971, John List murdered his entire family one by one, wrote a confession, then fled to the airport.Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Support the show AND listen ad-free here!: https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/Get 10% Off by visiting BetterHelp.com/recapsFollow TCR on YouTube here!Follow TCR on Instagram here!Follow TCR on Facebook here! Learn more about your ad choices. Dr. Death: The True Story Revealed

You might've heard the Wondery podcast or seen the Peacock series about "Dr. Death," but is there more to the story? This week, Chris brings you even more details surrounding the infamous doctor who has been charged with killing 2 patients and maiming several others, earning him that chilling moniker.Dr. Christopher Duntsch was a promising spinal surgeon, appearing on dozens of patents and research papers utilizing stem cells to improve the lives of spinal surgery patients. So how did a supposedly brilliant doctor end up with his license revoked and a life sentence in prison? That's where the story gets complicated. Chris drank and did various drugs before performing invasive surgeries. Despite his dangerous addictions, he was able to bounce around hospitals, causing horrendous physical damage to almost 40 people along the way. His ego and hubris ultimately led him to be directly involved in the death of 2 women during surgery, and he was finally indicted on criminal charges.Although this one doctor may serve the rest of his life behind bars, his story shines a light on just how broken the system that is supposed make us feel better truly is, and how we could very well end up with another Dr. Death along the line.Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Support the show AND listen ad-free here!: https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/Follow TCR on YouTube here!Follow TCR on Instagram here!Follow TCR on Facebook here! Learn more about your ad choices. 3 Shocking Female Serial Killers

Female serial killers are rare, but that doesn't mean they're any less vicious. This week, Amy and Chris profile 3 of the most incredible cases involving serial killers of the fairer sex.In the first story, Chris details Delphine LaLaurie, who was a sadistic murderer and torturer from New Orleans. She was a wealthy and well-connected woman who carried out her horrible acts within the comfort of her Louisiana mansion. Most of her victims were slaves on her property, and she subjected them to burning, dismembering and many other atrocities. Her crimes were so sickening, a mob drove her out and she exiled herself to France. Information on her and her family after this time is very limited. The first female American serial killer, Belle Gunness, is often overshadowed by Aileen Wuornos, but Belle walked so Aileen could run. Belle was born in Norway and emigrated to the United States in 1881. Belle's victims were mostly wealthy men who she managed to lure onto her Indiana farm under the guise of sex, love and marriage. The exact amount of Belle's victims is unknown, but it could be as high as 40 people! Belle supposedly died in a fire, but many believe that she faked her deathDanish serial killer Dagmar Overbye murdered as many as 25 children, including one of her own between 1913 and 1920. She is believed to the inspiration for the witch in the famous story "Hansel and Gretel." Dagmar opened up a daycare, which became a nearly endless supply of babies for her to kill in the most gruesome of fashions. Luckily for us, her death in prison is well-recorded.Finally, Amy brings you a bonus story about Leonarda Cianciulli, otherwise known The Soap-Maker of Correggio. But the soap she made had a secret and gruesome ingredient, human flesh. Leonarda somehow got it into her mind that her son needed spiritual protection as he was fighting in World War II. Her solution was to lure vulnerable women to her home where she killed, dismembered, and repurposed their body parts as soap, cakes and even clothing.Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Support the show AND listen ad-free here!: https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/Listen and subscribe now to ‘The Trials of Frank Carson’ on LATIMES.com, or listen and subscribe on Apple, Spotify or wherever you get podcastsDesign like a pro with Canva Pro! Was Ed Kemper Born to Kill?

This week, Chris and Amy explore the troubled upbringing and brutal crimes of notorious serial killer Edmund "Ed" Kemper AKA the Coed Killer. Ed Kemper stands at an intimidating 6'9" and purportedly has a genius-level IQ of 145. He has claimed 10 victims, including his paternal grandparents and his own mother. Amy breaks down Ed's series of murders and rapes throughout California, targeting mainly vulnerable college women, and used his keen intellect and friendly demeanor to disarm his victims enough to put themselves in dangerous situations.Amy also examines how Ed's abusive childhood may have contributed to his killings. At the age of only 15, Ed claimed his first victims, his grandmother and grandfather. Ed claims his grandmother was also abusive and belittling, and killed her in a fit of rage. He then killed his grandfather to spare him seeing his wife dead. After being sent to a psychiatric ward and being labeled a paranoid schizophrenic, Ed became a model prisoner and even convinced the psychiatrist that he was a reformed young man. Unfortunately, this would allow Ed to kill 8 more innocent victims, culminating in the murder and desecration of his mother, before turning himself in to the police in 1973.So the age-old question remains, was Ed predisposed to be a killer due to his genetics or is the way he was raised to blame?Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Support the show AND listen ad-free here!: https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/Go to analuisa.com/true to treat yourself and your loved ones and use code TRUE to get 10% off!Design like a pro with Canva Pro! Ted Bundy Suspected in 3 Cold Case Murders

The details of Ted Bundy's crimes and capture are well-documented, but this episode isn't a recap of Ted's infamy, this is about 3 cold cases that could potentially be added to this serial killer's lore. This week, Amy and Chris bring you the stories of a few little-known murders that have yet to be solved, and could very well be the work of Ted Bundy.Ted's first confirmed murder was around 1972, but some speculate that Ted might've killed 8-year-old Ann Marie Burr at the age of 14. Ann Marie disappeared in her hometown of Tacoma, Washington in 1961 and has yet to be found. The amount of circumstantial evidence potentially pointing towards Ted is overwhelming, including the fact that they actually knew each other and Ann Marie would follow Ted around whenever he was in town. So was she Ted's actual first victim? The second suspicious case are the murders of flight attendants Lisa Wick and Lonnie Trumbull. Their roommate returned home one day to find her friends brutally attacked, with Lonnie succumbing to her injuries. The attack of these women is remarkably similar to one of Ted's confirmed attacks on a sorority several years later. Lonnie's murder is still unsolved, but there's little doubt in many's minds, including the surviving victim, Lisa, that Ted is the prime suspect. Finally, Amy details the double murder of Susan Davis and Elizabeth Perry. The women were found stabbed to death by a New Jersey policeman, and appeared to be sexually assaulted. Bundy happened to enrolled in a nearby college and has been long-thought to be the murderer. Of course, this is still an unsolved case and other suspects have considered as well, but it's hard to deny that the killings closely match Bundy's MO.Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Support the show AND listen ad-free here!: https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/Go to HelloFresh.com/tcr14 and use code tcr14 for up to 14 free meals plus free shipping!Go to TheOuai.com and use code TCR to get 15% off your entire purchaseVisit analuisa.com/true. To punish his mother in the ultimate way.The 2nd child victim was James Bulger. Amy details how 10-year-olds Robert Thompson and Jon Venables brutally killed James after luring him away from his mother at a local mall. The details of how James spent his final moments is agonizing, and Robert and Jon almost got away with it. But even after getting caught, Robert and Jon were merely given a slap on the wrist and are currently living in society under new identities, not made public. And in the final story, Chris brings you the case of Tristyn Bailey, a 13-year-old found stabbed 114 times in the woods. On May 23, 2019, Bobby was put to death by the state of Florida. In the second story, Chris details some of the very few survivors of Ted Bundy, one of arguably the most deranged serial killers in American history. Kathy Kliener was attacked in her room while attending Florida State University. She ended up being one of the only people to be able to identify him at his trial. Another woman who testified against Bundy at his trial was Cheryl Thomas, another woman that Bundy attacked and left for dead. He would hide weapons in random areas all across the United States, and he didn't have a specific type of victim, anyone could've been at the other end of Israel's fury. Amy and Chris explore the dizzying case that the FBI chased for decades that was only closed when Israel made a small yet crucial mistake. Four Cult Leaders You May Not Know About

You probably think you've heard about every fringe cult there is, but you'd be wrong. This week, Amy and Chris discuss four unsettling and underreported cults, starting with the Alachua County cult in Florida, House of Prayer. Anna Young was the merciless leader of the group, worshipped by the other members. But Anna, known as "Mother Anna" was ultimately ousted by her own daughter, Joy Fluker, for her horrendous abuse of minors, which culminated in the death of two toddlers. In the second story, Chris recounts the case of Lawrence "Larry" Ray. Larry moved into his daughter's dorm at Sarah Lawrence College. He began grooming and manipulating his daughter's roommates, which he used to extort them and create a bizarre sex cult, forcing the students to sleep with each other while he watched. Despite other parents reporting him, the college stated that there was nothing they could do. Lawrence kept his ruse up for over 10 years before we he was arrested, but he still seems to have a hold over some of his "group members."Next, Amy discusses the voodoo cult leader Mark Steven Foster. Mark was found dead on the side of a road with a strange and cryptic note in his shoe. Investigators had no idea this would start the pulling of the thread of Mark's unusual life, and his unusual death. When Mark's home was searched, police discovered pornography and other disturbing items, linking him to a bizarre cult. But it gets stranger. Investigators found out that Mark had convinced his friends to murder him for insurance money, but the note they found in Mark's shoe was Mark's attempt to pin the crime on his co-conspirators to ensure they wouldn't get away with it.Finally, Chris brings you the story of the Love Has Won group. Amy Carlson led the cult and was thought to be the reincarnation of several famous figures, from Jesus Christ to Marilyn Monroe, and more. Amy claimed to be in close connection with angels and ghosts, including dead celebrities. The True Story Behind 3 Infamous Crimes

You might've heard about these stories, but this week, Amy and Chris dive deep into 3 of the most infamous unsolved crimes in American history. First up is the only unsolved hijacking in FBI history, the case of D.B. Cooper. On November 24, 1971, a mysterious man who identified himself as Dan Cooper sat calmly on a plane. He handed a flight attendant a note that told her he had a bomb and demanded $200,000 and 2 parachutes. Dan got his demand and jumped out of the back of the plane into the wilderness, never to be seen again. Many theories have arisen as to the fate of the hijacker, from dying in the rugged terrain to burying his money on the beach, but no decisive conclusion has ever been reached. In the second case, Amy delves into the body of a man found at Somerton Beach, Australia that has confounded investigators for decades. The Tamám Shud case, as it is often referred to, involves the discovery of an unidentified man found dressed in business attire slouched over on the beach in December 1948. It was later discovered that the man was dead, but his identity has never been determined. Strange notes and encrypted texts were found on him, leaving many to speculate that the man was involved in the Cold War or other secret operations, but even with advent of DNA technology, his background and identity remain murky. Finally, Chris explains the details surrounding the case that is usually referred to as the Lindbergh Baby case, or Lindbergh kidnapping. On March 1, 1932, Charles and Anne Lindbergh were approached by their nurse Betty Gow with a note. The note explained that their 20-month old son had been kidnapped and was demanding money. The investigation and subsequent trial turned into what many media outlets dubbed as the "crime of the century." And although a man named Bruno Richard Hauptmann was ultimately tried and executed for the crime, many doubts remain surrounding his guilt. Is it possible that an innocent man was put to death for one of the biggest crimes in U.S. history?Get 10% off your first month by visiting Betterhelp.com/recaps!Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Support the show AND listen ad-free here!: https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/Follow TCR on YouTube here!Follow TCR on Instagram here!Follow TCR on Facebook here! Learn more about your ad choices. Three terrifying Amish murders

This week, Amy and Chris bring you three murders committed in the typically peaceful Amish community. The first is about Ed Gingerich, a mentally ill man who brutally murdered and disemboweled his wife Katie. Ed had frightened many people within his community before the murder due to his unhinged behavior, enough to the point that they resorted to calling 9-1-1. He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and placed on medication, but he ultimately stopped taking it, which only made his state of mind worse. Ed was convicted of manslaughter and spent a little over 2 years in prison, despite community members pleading with authorities to keep Ed institutionalized. In the second case, Amy the killer Eli Stutzman, often known as a potential Amish serial killer. Eli was a closeted gay man living in an extremely devout Amish community. He was also a pathological liar, so the details of his life and whereabouts are difficult to verify. What is certain is that Eli became a person of interest after several murdered bodies were discovered that had connections to Eli, including his own son, Danny Stutzman, who he abandoned in a ditch. Finally, Chris details the story of the self-described "Amish Stud" Eli Weaver. Oftentimes, the only ones we can trust are our friends. But what happens when your friends turn on you in the worst possible way? This week, Amy and Chris delve into 2 tragic stories of friendships gone awry. In the first story, Chris discusses the murder of Sarah Stern. After discovering Sarah's cash inheritance, Liam McAtasney, one of Sarah's close friends, and Liam's friend Preston Taylor plotted to kill Sarah, stage a suicide, and run off with the money. Almost 3 years after Sarah disappeared, Liam and Preston were brought to justice. Ultimately, Liam and Preston did the unthinkable to one of their friends for a measly $9,000.After that, Amy gets into the brutal rape and murder of 13-year-old Maryann Measles. Maryann was lured into a secluded area by her supposed friends. There she was raped and murdered by 5 men and 3 women, and was even violated post-mortem. Maryann was dumped in a nearby lake, Lake Lillinonah, wrapped in a blanket and chains. Tik Toker Kills Sister PLUS! Law & Order-Inspired Cold Case

"I stabbed my sister!" These were the words repeated over and over by Claire Miller, the 14-year-old who allegedly stabbed her sister Helen to death and posted the video on Tik Tok. In the first case, Amy breaks down the bizarre, yet tragic details behind this ongoing case. Claire regularly posted videos on Tik Tok consisting of violent anime and other disturbing imagery. In late February, Claire admitted to stabbing her older sister Helen, who was wheelchair-bound due to cerebral palsy. Tik Tok removed an account that many believe belonged to Claire, who might've posted the murder on the platform. Although details are slowly emerging, we do know that Claire is being charged as an adult for the murder of Helen Miller. For the second story, Chris details how the disappearance of Sky Metalwala closely mirrors an episode of the long-running television series Law & Order. On November 6, 2011, Julia Biryukova claims to have been driving her children to a nearby hospital when her car ran out of gas. She says she pulled the car over and took her daughter to go to a gas station, while leaving Sky in the car. But instead of getting gas, she had her friend pick them up and return to her parked car. When they arrived back to Julia's car, Sky was missing and hasn't been seen since. Chris discusses the details that don't quite match up with Julia's account of events and how they are identical to an episode of Law & Order that she had watched previous to Sky's disappearance.Go to Hellofresh.com/tcr12 and use code tcr12 for 12 free meals, including free shipping!Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Support the show AND listen ad-free here!: https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/Follow TCR on YouTube here!Follow TCR on Instagram here!Follow TCR on Facebook here! Learn more about your ad choices. Two cold cases solved by DNA: Mandy Stavik & Lisa Ziegert

This week, Amy and Chris are highlighting 2 remarkable cases that were solved using modern DNA techniques. The first story is the case of Mandy Stavik, who was found dead on Nov. 27, 1989. With no significant leads in the investigation, the case went cold for over 30 years. The case got a shot in the arm when 2 mothers randomly discussed the case at a water park. They named the same man as their main culprit and turns out they were right. Timothy Bass was later linked through DNA evidence and was convicted of raping and murdering Mandy 3 decades ago. He was convicted poetically on Mandy's mother's birthday. And in the second half, they discuss Lisa Ziegert, the teacher's assistant who was abducted while at her 2nd job back in 1992. In 2017, with the advent of DNA technology, Ziegert's killer was finally identified as Gary E. Schara. Gary had stalked Lisa before abducting and killing her, and was even linked to the murder back in 1993 when his then-wife told police he might be involved. But it wasn't until a composite was created decades later, and with the use of DNA samples collected from the crime scene, that this case could finally be closed and bring closure to the families involved.Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Support the show AND listen ad-free here!: https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/Follow TCR on YouTube here!Follow TCR on Instagram here!Follow TCR on Facebook here! Learn more about your ad choices. What Happened To The McStay Family?

This week, Amy and Chris delve into 2 horrific family murders. In the first half, Chris recounts the slaying of the McStay Family in the affluent Fallbrook, California. The McStay Family consisted of father Joseph, mother Summer, and children 4-year-old Gianni and 3-year-old Joseph Jr. Over a few days in early February 2010, friends and family of the family attempted to locate them, but they seemingly abandoned their car and belongings. On November 11, 2013, the remains of the family were found in the desert surrounding Victorville, California. Further investigation determined that Joseph's business partner Charles "Chase" Merritt was the likely culprit due to his connection with the family, his shady past and gambling debts. On January 21, 2020, Chase was sentenced to death by a jury, but is there more to this story? The second story has baffled investigators for almost a century! Amy recaps the case of the Gruber family murders, also known as The Hinterkaifeck murders. After the family was absent from the town for an entire week, the townspeople became concerned. Finally, investigators searched the house and found all 6 members of the family, as well as the maid who had just started her first day, brutally murdered by a farming mattock. They also found that someone, most likely the killer, had hung around the house after March 31, 1922, the night the family was slain. Though many have been arrested and investigated, there are still no lead suspects and the mystery of this horrible crime may never be solved. As a listener, you’ll get 10% off your first month by visiting our sponsor at BetterHelp.com/recaps!Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Follow TCR on YouTube here!Follow TCR on Instagram here!Follow TCR on Facebook here! Learn more about your ad choices.
