Lessons Learned From 125 Days Without Eating Out
Back in 2021 my husband and I went 125 consecutive days without eating out a single time. This was after we had built the pattern of eating out 5-6 nights a week. To say the least, it was a massive change in our habits (and wasn't all rainbows and butterflies) but through that 4 month time period I completely transformed my mindset and habits around cooking and home and eating out. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast, I'm brushing off an old episode that contains timeliness tips and tricks to help you put money back in your pocket by eating at home more. 162: The Dangers of Credit Card Debt (and a tool that can help) with the CEO of Sequin, Vrinda Gupta
Have you gotten yourself into financial trouble in the past becuase of over extending yourself using a credit card? If you have, you're not alone. Knowing how to use credit cards as a beneficial tool is a game (that many of us are never taught), and each of us needs to determine if we know the rules to the credit card game and if we feel like we can follow the rules well to win the game. For some people, credit cards (when used well) can be an amazing tool to build credit and score cash back, miles, travel perks, and purchase protection. For others, credit cards are more of a temptation and cause more financial damage than any perks are worth. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast I'm diving into the deep underbelly of the credit card industry with former VISA employee turned Sequin CEO, Vrinda Gupta. Vrinda had her financial "wake up moment" when she was denied from the credit card that she helped build. She then set out on her own to create Sequin, the first of it's kind debit card designed to earn women up to 6% cashback on self-care (think gyms, beauty stores, drug stores, and more) without perpetuating a cycle of credit card debt. Most credit cards earn rewards, but can get you in a cycle of high-interest credit card debt. Debit cards, while they keep you in budget, do not typically earn rewards. Sequin is the best of the both worlds, and earns you cashback -- on a debit card! This is your own money, so you can stick with a budget without sacrificing cashback rewards. Best of all, it's founded by women, for women and you will receive a custom credit card debt payoff plan to manage credit while earning cashback. There's no monthly fees, overdrafts, or minimums, and your checking account will earn high interest. In this conversation Paige and Vrinda talk about secrets the credit card companies don't want you to know, how credit cards are designed to keep you overspending, why it can be so tricky to get out of credit card debt once you're in it, and diving into Sequin, the debit card that Vrinda created to help women combat credit card debt for good. 161: Why You Should Strive To Be Self-Centered with Master Coach & Author, Hilary Silver
Do you view being self-centered as a good or a bad thing? Many of us (especially women) have been conditioned to be selfless rather than being self-centered. We have learned that others come first and we come last. That the needs and preferences of others always outweigh our own. But often what this creates is a reality where you not only deprioritize yourself, you move so far away from yourself that you don't even have a true sense of who you really are anymore. The solution to finding yourself again? Becoming more self-centered. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast Paige is having an eye opening and empowering conversation with Master Coach and Author, Hilary Silver all about why you should strive to be self-centered. They discuss what being self-centered actually means, why your suffering isn't noble, the role that your identity and worthiness play in your self-centeredness and the secrets to creating a life that you love to live. One of the quickest ways to increase your net worth is by increasing your self-worth. 159: The Power of "No"
What's your relationship with the word "no"? Do you view saying "no" as the thing that is keeping you from living the life you want? Does the version of happiness and financial freedom that your striving for look like being able to say "yes" to everything? If so, this could mean that you need to re-examine your relationship with the word "no" so that you can start seeing the power in saying "no" more often. When we start saying "no" more than we say "yes", we start creating space in our lives for the things that matter most to us. Saying "no" isn't about deprivation and restriction. It's a powerful stance that is an act of prioritization and alignment. Join me in this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast where we are exploring the power behind the word "no". 156: How To Rewrite Your Money Story
Your past simply exists in your head as the memories and stories you have about things that no longer exist. The stories that you tell around your financial past make up your money story, and most people have a money story that they use against their own good. When you have a disempowering story about your money past, you will waste time wishing it was different that it was and you will also continue to pull those same results into the future (creating more of what you don't want). When you do this, you're using your past as a weapon against yourself rather than a helpful tool to create the financial life that you want moving forward. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast we are exploring the concept of your money story and what it means. Paige breaks down what your money story is, where it comes from, why most peolpe have a disempowering money story, and how to purposefully rewrite your money story into one that will propel you towards the financial reality you know you're destined to create. What would life look like if we could spend more of our time creating? Creating more love, connection, knowledge, health, energy, and money for ourselves. How much more would you be able to accomplish in a lifetime with more of an intentional focus on creating value for yourself, others and the world? In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast we are exploring the consumption vs. creation relationship and spectrum. 154: How To Not Lose Your Mind with One-Of-A-Kind Buys
There's no other purchase category that can make you lose your mind faster than one-of-a-kind buys. These are unique and sometimes one of a kind items that we find at thrift stores, second hand, or at stores like Homegoods. While it can be thrilling to find these items, we often spend more in this area than we have planned simply because we "lose our minds" in these situations. Many of you have asked "How can I approach these situations with more control and discipline?" and that's exactly the qustion I'm providing answers to in this week's episode. In this episode of the podcast, Paige is walking you through her four step process on how to not lose your mind with one-of-a-kind buys. She explains what actually happens in your brain with purchases like this, the easiest thing you can do in the moment to ease the scarcity, how to work through worst case scenarios and how to be better eqiupped in situations like this so you're not overspending, going into debt, or sabotaging your finances. 151: Credit Card Mistakes
Credit cards are a tool that you get to decide if you're going to use on your financial journey. Whether or not you will use them will depend on what you're trying build, and how confident you feel in your ability to ues them well. If you do decide to use credit cards moving forward, it's important that you're using them in a way that will help you, rather than hurt you. When used correctly, credit cards can provide incredible perks while also helping you build credit. When used incorrectly, they can cause disasterous consequences with your money and credit score. Whether you're using credit cards correctly or incorrectly can usually be boiled down to ten common mistakes that I see credit card users making. On this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast I will be walking you through each of these 10 mistakes. 149: Dreading your Debt? Do a Debt Sprint.
Do you dread your debt? Most people who are in debt feel immense dread when they think about the process of paying it off. It's important to remember that the dread you feel around your debt is created from your thinking, but sometimes it's easier to solve for the dread by getting out of debt completely than by doing the challening work of changing your thoughts and beliefs around your debt. This is where a debt sprint comes in, which is a sustainable sprint (in your own version) towards the debt free finish line so you can become unburdened from your debt. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast Paige is sharing her concept of the debt sprint and diving into the emotion of dread. She's sharing why we feel so much dread around our debt, her three solutions for solving for it, how to do a debt sprint in a sustainable way, and how to make it to the debt payoff finish line without completely burning yourself out. Have you ever wondered if you're burnt out? If you find yourself losing patience easily, struggling to sleep, losing drive and motivation towards goals and feel like you're generally going through the motions of life... burnout might be on the horizon (or have already arrived). It's no secret that many of us have reached points of burnout, but this is especially true for those of us raised with a "work hard, never rest" mentality that programs us to believe that rest is lazy and our stress and booked out calendars are badges of honor. But how do we move past this burnout and reach a state of balance? Your identity, which is made up of the thoughts and beliefs you have about yourself, wiill always be working for you, or against you. However, sometimes it can be challenging to form new identities that are too far away from the current identities that you hold about yourself. 145: Buy-Now-Pay-Later Services: Friend or Foe?
It's vitually impossible nowadays to buy something online with being offered to split up your payment over multiple installments over a 2-3 month period. These companies like Afterpay, Affirm, and Klarna seem to be taking the online shopping world by storm and offer an enticing no fee and no interest option to get what you want the moment you want it without having to wait. But even though these services can be enticing to many and useful in some situations, that doesn't mean they come with their fair share of pitfalls and dangers. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast we're diving deep into the topic of buy-now-pay-later services. I'm sharing scenarios where I think it makes sense to use them, when you shouldn't use them, factors to consider that may make you rethink using them moving forward, and three questions to ask yourself the next time you're tempted to split a purchase over time. 143: How To Do Hard Things
Your brain (and mine) is lazy. Very lazy. Your brain was designed to seek pleasure, avoid challenges, and expend the least amount of energy possible. But just becuase something is hard and challenge doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. In fact, I believe that harder that something is, the more you should pursue it. 142: Why You Should Choose Hard
Are you someone who welcomes hard things into your life or are you someone who avoids challenges in your life (and as a result ends up making things harder on yourself)? When we choose to do hard and challenging things we become stronger, we show ourselves what we're capable of, and we make our contribution to the world. Unfortunately, with everything in our world getting faster, easier, and friction-free many of us have become entitled to comfort and avoidant of discomfort. But in order to live an extrordinary life of immense contribution, we have to actively choose to do and go through hard things. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast we're talking about hard things and why you should intentionally seek them out. Paige walks through the topic of comfort entitlement, explains why we are so adverse to challenge, and gives you her best three arguements of why hard things and challenges are something that you should actually run towards, rather than running away from. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast, Paige is breaking down bankruptcy with Ohio bankruptcy attorney, Adrienne Hines. 138: Destructive Desire
Each one of us desires new things: financial freedom, to travel more, a new home, to be more disciplined to name a few. But is your desire destructive? Do you desire things from a place of not believing you're worthy of having it? From a place of disbelief in your capability to create in? From a place of believing that you can't feel the way you want to feel until the desire is acheived? If this type of desire sounds familiar, you're engaging in destructive desire. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast we're talking about the topic of destructive desire. What it is, what it looks like, why we desire things in a way that's destructive, and how to shift out of destructive desire and into clean desire. This will be an epsiode that has you thinking about the things you want and desire in an entirely new way. Enjoy! 136: The Hedonic Hamster Wheel
Do you feel like there's always something that you want or desire? There's always a product "finish line" that you're working towards where you tell yourself "once I have ______ I'll finally be happy". If you find yourself in this familiar pattern, you're stuck on the hedonic hamster wheel. The hedonic hamster wheel is a metaphor for the human tendency to pursue one pleasure after another and it can be a viscious never-ending cycle that can derail your spending and finances if we don't take steps to actively slow it down or get off of it entirely. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast we're diving into the phenomena of hedonic adaptation and breaking down how it impacts our consumption (in not so great ways). In this value-packed episode Paige is breaking down what hedonic adaptation is, how it impacts our consumption, real life examples that you might recognize in yourself, why our brains are wired this way, and the types of consumption that will keep you on and off the hedonic hamster wheel. 132: Self-Trust
Do you feel like you can trust yourself? Oftentimes we think of self-trust in a way that doesn't serve us. This version of self-trust is one that we can never live up to which will ultimately hurt our levels of self-trust and destroy it further. Instead, what if self-trust was something completely different? What if you could be trusted with money, to make the right choices, and to do your best moving forward? Do you appreciate your money? Do you even like your money? Does your money like you? The question is... how healthy is that relationship? In this week's episode of The Money Love podcast Paige is diving into the topic of appreciation and it's importance when it comes to your money. Are you someone who has an irregular income? Your income changes month to month based on your line of work and most months your money feels like a roller-coaster (up and down, up and down). 127: Identity Imprisonment
The two most powerful words available to us at our disposal are "I am...". These two words will convey the identities you hold about yourself and will also create your reality becuase of the way your brain is wired to work and prove your beliefs true. Your identities will either empower you or disempower you, liberate you or imprision you, or be the fuel to getting what you want or the roadblock keeping you from it. This is why what you believe to be true about you is some of the most powerful beliefs that you hold. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast, Paige is breaking down the concept of identity imprisonment. She is diving into what it is, why it matters, why our brains are so attached to the identities that we hold, how your current identities are imprisoning you, and also her three best mindset shifts to be liberated and empowered by your identity rather than imprisoned by it. This could possibly be on the of the most important episodes and concepts Paige has covered thus far on the podcast and there's no doubt it will be one that challenges you to view yourself in an entirely new light. You're Invited: Let's make December the best month of 2023
If your December is typically filled with statements like: 🗣 After the holidays are over, I’ll… 🗣 When this busy season ends, then I can… 🗣 Once the new year starts, I will… I want you to try something different this year. Maybe you've given up on your dreams, desires, and goals until we have a fresh start and a new year begins. Typically all discipline gets thrown out the window with our consumption these last 30 days of the year (I know in years past this has been the case for me). We eat too much, drink too much, and spend too much and start the new year feeling weighed down, sluggish, and stressed. But how would it feel to make the final month of 2023 the most powerful of your entire year? To prioritize yourself and your finances, finish the year on a strong note, and carry that momentum into the new year ahead? This month inside the Overcoming Overspending Membership we're focusing on rediscovering and developing our discipline and I want to invite you to join us for only $49. It's your opportunity to make yourself (instead of everyone else) a priority to close out the year. It's a chance to build momentum going into 2024 and begin the new year on strong financial footing. A strong January is built in December, and there's no better time to invest in yourself than right now. For the next 3 days I'm offering $30 off your first month inside the membership. This means you get access to all of the below, plus ELEVEN live coaching calls with me in December for the cost of one Amazon order. 🤯 That comes out to less than $5 per hour long live coaching call (it really doesn't get better than that). It's risk free to join. Your first 30 days are covered by my love it or leave it guarantee, which means if you don't love it you can get your $49 refunded to you, no questions ask. After that, you can cancel at anytime, hassle free. Use the links below to jump in and join us: Ready to Join? Jump in HERE. Need more information on the Overcoming Overspending Membership? 115: YNAB: The Money Method that Changed My Life with Ashley Lapato of The Organized Wallet
It's no secret that I am a huge fan on the money managagement software, YNAB (You Need A Budget). I've used the software for years and it has been the single most impactful tool in transforming my finances for the better. But it's so much more than just a budgeting software. YNAB is a money management method that is govered by 4 simple yet impactful rules to guide the decisions you make with money. I couldn't be more excited this week to dive into all things YNAB with none other than YNAB's personal finance educator, Ashley Lapato. Ashley spent years believing that she was just “bad with money” before finding YNAB, and she is now on a mission to teach others that money management is a skill - one that is never too late to learn. Ashley has earned a reputation on TikTok @TheOrganizedWallet for a refreshingly relatable approach to personal finance, which has helped hundreds of thousands learn to organize their finances and spend with confidence. In this episode together we break down what YNAB is, what makes it different from other money management systems, the 4 rules that govern the YNAB method, "little treat culture" that is taking over social media by storm, and we address the reservations you might have about trying YNAB to manage your money. 114: Feel Harder, Suffer Less
Are you feeling? Or are you suffering? Most of us think that we are feeling our feelings, when in fact we are resisting our feelings which creates uncessary suffering for ourselves. When we lack the ability and the willingness to feel our emotions, we end up just creating more of it for ourselves. But what if your feelings weren't something to run away from, but rather something to run towards? What if they weren't an inconvenience, but rather a superpower? What if they weren't a hindrence, but rather the ticket to getting everything you've ever wanted? The harder we feel, the less we suffer. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast we are diving into one of my favorite topics, emotions. We're talking about the difference between feeling and suffering, why we create unnecessary suffering for ourselves, how to stop doing that, and how to shift our mindset around our emotions so that they are something that we begin to embrace rather than avoid. This will no doubt be an episode that will challenge you and have you thinking about your feelings in an entirely new light. Enjoy! Questions from episode: Am I feeling or am I suffering? What emotion am I not feeling and what other emotions is that avoidance creating? How am I creating unnecessary suffering in my life right now? Do I want to sit with the truth of my life right now, or do I want to escape my life? What's the one emotion I most fear and how would my life look drastically different if I ran towards that emotion and created it on purpose? Do you struggle to make decisions? To you find yourself feeling confused a lot? If so, you could be commited to confusion. When we are confused we don't have to make hard decisions, we don't have to learn new things, we don't have to be a beginner, and we don't have to risk anything. 106: Feeling Deprived
Do you do a lot of spending and buy a lot of things so that you won’t feel deprived? Many of us manage our money in a way and spend against our own good simply because we are resisting and avoiding the emotion of deprivation. We have been told by consumer culture that if we aren’t able to get what we want when we want it, that the dreaded emotion of deprivation will follow. But what if deprivation wasn’t something to be avoided, but rather welcomed in with open arms? What if there was a way to make disciplined choices that honor your deepest and truest desires, without feeling a trace of deprivation? If you're a high acheiving woman and it feels like you make great money, but still have nothing to show for it or you feel like you should be farther along financially than you are... then this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast is for you. We are talking about one of the most important, yet underrated skills when it comes to building wealth, which is the skill of having money. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast, I'm sitting down with Certified Life and Money Coach Germaine Foley who works with high acheiving women and helps them manage their money without losing their freedom to spend and enjoy life. We discuss what having money means, what it looks like, simple practices you can implement today to develop your skill of having money, and also what it looks like to have and acheive balance within your finances. Enjoy! About Germaine: Germaine Foley is a Certified Life & Money Coach. She thrives off of helping high achieving women manage and grow their money without losing the freedom to spend and enjoy life. Germaine fell in love with doing this work because she knows what it’s like to have an “it’s complicated” relationship with money. At one point, she was only concerned with making it, and spending it. And as you can guess, that left her feeling frustrated and ashamed, even though she made 6 figures in her corporate career. Everything looked prim and proper on the outside, but on the inside her finances were a HOT MESS! She’s happy to share that she got her act together! She paid off a ton of debt (over $200k), created a growing multiple 6 figure net worth & built her dream home while still having lots of fun and enjoying life. In this value-packed episode we talk about the role that habits play in achieving the financial results you desire, how we view habits and discipline in ways that actually end up hurting us more than helping us, how to approach the habit formation process with love and compassion vs shame and judgement, how to work WITH your brain and nervous system while working to form a new habit rather than relying on force and willpower, why getting started is the most important part and Cecelia’s best tips for forming a new habit that makes it seem easy and natural, and how to reignite an old habit that you once we’re super committed to but have fallen off the bandwagon. This in no doubt a conversation that will have you thinking about habits and discipline in an entirely new and improved way. Enjoy! BIO: Cecelia is Certified Life Coach and Yoga Therapist who works with women to take life from 'this is it?' to 'this is IT!' Using cognitive science, yogic wisdom, and self discipline. In 1:1 and small group coaching, Cecelia works with you to figure out your priorities, what is keeping you stuck, and how to use self discipline as an act of love to implement your priorities through habits. By tapping into your thoughts and state of your nervous system behind your current habits (hello self sabotage!), the change you want starts to happen with ease. 98: The 7 types of spending that harm your finances
Spending is a skill, which means that it’s something that we can practice to get better at over time. It also means that we can be a good spender if we have mastered the skill of spending, or a not so good spender if we haven’t. The truth is that many of us don’t realize spending is a skill, so we never try to get better at it over time and we engage in spending that is impulsive, we spend money we don’t have, we try to buy things with our money that cannot be bought, and we spend money in a way that harms our future financial well-being. These are the types of spending that harm our finances and take us farther away from the financial future we have a desire to build. In this week’s episode of The Money Love Podcast we’re breaking down the 7 types of spending that harm your finances. We walk through each one in detail, what it looks like, why you might be doing it, and how bringing awareness to this type of spending is the best first step which this episode will help you do. Want to know the one thing that is costing you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars over your lifetime? It's when we abandon ourselves and our true desires, lie to the people that we love and aren't honest about what we really want, put the opinions of others before our own, say “yes” when we really want to be saying “no” or saying “no” when we really want to be saying “yes”. 95: Your Brain Is A Bully
We all have an inner mean girl inside of us that is keeping us small, stuck, and broke. Your inner mean girl is a bully because she tricks you into thinking that staying where you are is the safest bet. She tells you that your future potential is dictated by your past results and experiences. She lies to you and tells you what she knows you need to hear in order to act against your own financial well-being. She keeps you engaging in behaviors and habits that feel good in the moment but aren't beneficial for you long-term. Your brain is a bully, and it's time that we all confront our inner mean girl and bring her out into the light so she stops having so much power over us. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast, we are diving into your inner bully (aka your primitive brain) and how she is keeping you from reaching your full financial potential. By the end of this value-packed episode, you will know the main job of your brain and the 3 things it's always focused on to accomplish this job, the characteristics of your brain that are keeping you small, stuck, and broke, the types of distorted thinking that we do that holds us back from reaching our full financial potential and the one realization about my own “inner mean girl” that allowed me to silence her and stop giving her power over my daily life. 90: Financial Sacrifices
Are you in a season of sacrifice? If so, you’re not going to want to miss this week’s episode of the podcast where we are talking all about financial sacrifices and why they are something that should be embraced and welcomed rather than dreaded. Many of us have been conditioned to believe that financial success looks like unlimited overflow and being able to do whatever we want, whenever we want without ever having to say “no”. But what we fail to remember is that any worthy result that has ever been created has required a certain level of sacrifice. When we come to this realization, we can see that sacrifices are not something that move us farther away from what we want, but rather move us closer to our truest desires. The financial sacrifices that we make never lead to less, but ultimately, always result in us having more. This week on The Money Love Podcast I am bringing you into a coaching request I received from an Overcoming Overspending student who is in a season of financial sacrifice. I am extending the coaching that I provided to her to you so that those of you going through the same thing can benefit from her request. We cover what financial sacrifices are and the point at which we realize they are necessary, why we have been programmed to have so much resistance to making financial sacrifices, why making financial sacrifices is something that should be embraced rather than avoided and lastly, how to make financial sacrifices from an abundance mindset and detach the tradeoffs from our morality. This episode is one that will have you thinking about the financial sacrifices we all have to make to reach our full financial potential in an entirely new way. Enjoy! 89: Cultivating an Intentional Mind
On average you think 60,000 thoughts every day. Although many of these thoughts are subconscious and go unnoticed, your mind is still a place that can become weighed down with thoughts that we hoard that don’t help us create the results that we want. With so much mental chatter we feel pulled in a million different directions and oftentimes we end our days feeling like we’re running on autopilot instead of consciously planning our futures. Imagine what it would be like if your brain was filled with very carefully chosen thoughts that are beautiful, that feel good, and that serve you and your bank account. When you clean out your mind and make your internal organization a priority your mind becomes a place of purpose which creates amazing ripple effects in your finances and external environment. If you get the inside right, the outside will fall into place. This week on The Money Love Podcast we are wrapping up our 3-week series on decluttering and organizing by talking about the life-changing concept of internal organization, which is the process of cleaning out and organizing your thoughts so that your mind feels clear, effective, and energized. It’s taking a look at your thoughts and asking ”What do you need to let go of? What am I thinking that is outdated and no longer useful? What do I not want to think about anymore? What needs to go? What do I want to fill my mind with instead? What do I want to use my mind power to create?”. We talk about why internal organization is important, how it impacts your external organization, and I share with you 5 tools and practices that you can use to create a mind that is clean, organized, and intentional. 88: Organizing Your Finances
When you think about the cleanliness and clarity of your finances what comes to mind? Does it feel like your finances are in a frenzy, or do your finances feel purposeful and intentional? Is your money (in both physical and electronic forms) organized or are your finances scattered across various accounts and channels that feel messy and chaotic? The truth is, we all have a relationship with our money and the level to which your finances are clear and organized is a direct correlation to the health, vitality and intimacy of that relationship. Your money is a resource that you use for self expression and to create the life that you want, so it’s a resource that should receive attention and respect from you in the form of keeping it clear and organized. This week on The Money Love Podcast we are continuing our organization and decluttering series by talking about why you should spend the time and energy organizing your finances and how to best tackle that process. I share with you the connection between clutter in your external world and clutter within your finances, how your finances being disorganized is impacting your bank account, the four areas that you need to organize to achieve high levels of financial organization and I’m also giving away a special freebie to take your financial organization to the next level (link to download is below). 87: The Cost of Clutter In Your Life
When you look at your external world and the things that fill it up does it align with who you are and what you desire most? Is there alignment there? Or does your environment feel heavy, cluttered, and disorganized and you find yourself asking “Why do I have this?” “What is this doing for me?” “What did I even buy this for?” We live in a culture obsessed with stuff and with acquisition and we've reached a tipping point where our physical possessions have become more suffocating than liberating. At a certain point, our clutter starts to cost us in more ways than one and we reach a point where the things that we consume end up consuming us. We become more concerned with numbing ourselves out with stuff rather than living conscious lives. This week on The Money Love Podcast we are diving into the topic of clutter in your external environment and what it’s ultimately costing you. We discuss the connection between the clutter in your external world and your finances and why it matters to inhabit a space that is clean and purposeful, why we acquire so much clutter and what makes parting with it so difficult, the 4 questions you can ask to evaluate if you should keep something or purge something, and how you can declutter your environment in a way that is easy and doable. 85: Losing Money
There’s a lot going on in the world right now that is impacting the bottom lines of our budget and wallets and many of us are losing money. We’re spending more than we’re used to spending (hello inflation). We’re seeing red within our investment accounts (oh hey bear market). We’re experiencing supply chain issues, a war in Ukraine, and we’re still recovering from the effects of a two year long global pandemic. Although the external circumstances in our world feel like a roller coaster, your mental and emotional experience during this time doesn’t have to be. Many default to stress, worry, and anxiety becuase they think it’s the only option available to them during challenging times. But the most turbulant times can be our greatest teachers and our biggest opportunities for growth and this episode will show you how to take advantage of the gift we’ve been given through down times. This week on The Money Love Podcast we are diving into the topic of losing money and how you can manage your mind during challenging times. We talk about why our brains are hardwired to avoid loss and why losing money is so mentally uncomfortable to us. I share with you the 3 constructs that many people believe that make the loss of financial resources more painful than it needs to be. I show you how to direct your energy and attention to the things that remain untouched by the level of your financial resources. 84: Jealousy
Do you often find yourself feeling jealous of other people and what they have? If so, this week’s episode of the podcast is one you won’t want to miss. Jealousy is an emotion that we have a deep misunderstanding of, and because of that, many of us are using it as a weapon against ourselves rather than a gift for ourselves. Jealousy can be a beautiful and enlightening emotion because it reveals to you what you truly desire. Once we uncover that desire, we can then use the results that other people have created that we feel jealous of as proof and inspiration that we can go out and create the same results. Unfortunately, this is not how most of us view the emotion of jealousy and as a result we are not harnessing it for good and using it as a source of power in our lives. This week on The Money Love Podcast we are diving into the emotion of jealousy. I share with you what jealousy is and what it means, what really causes it vs. what we think causes it, the two characteristics that everything you feel jealous about will have, the three limiting beliefs that we have about the things we want that make the jealousy we feel painful and unproductive, and lastly, how to use jealousy as a powerful tool to get what you want rather than having it be a destructive emotion that makes you feel inferior and discouraged. Jealousy doesn’t have to be an ugly emotion that we resist, but rather an emotion that we use to get to know ourselves on a deeper level and a catapult to creating the life we truly desire. Enjoy! 83: Your Spending Triggers
Do you know what your unique spending triggers are? If not, this week’s episode of the podcast is one you won’t want to miss. A spending trigger is a cue that kicks off the chain of events in our model that ultimately leads to us overspending and impulse shopping. We can have circumstantial triggers in our external world and we can also experience mental and emotional triggers that occur within us. Your spending triggers are not something that you need to fear or spend exorbitant amounts of energy trying to eliminate all together. In fact, your spending triggers are something to be welcomed and embraced as each one is an opportunity to develop your muscle of being a skilled thinker, feeler, and spender. Gaining awareness around your triggers puts you in a place of power and enables you to make a conscious choice with your money rather than an unconscious one. This week on The Money Love Podcast we are diving into the important topic of spending triggers. We are covering what spending triggers are, the three main types of triggers, how to uncover and gain awareness over what your unique triggers are, how to approach them moving forward so that they don’t influence your spending choices and we also explore why you don’t need to be fearful of them or concerned with eliminating them entirely and what your energy needs to be focused on instead. 82: We've Got It All Wrong
When it comes to the way we think about money, negative emotion and the way that the world works there are so many ways that we have it all wrong. These false truths and misleading assumptions are what I call thought errors. Thought errors are common beliefs that we have accepted around how the world works, but they aren’t actually the way the world works. They are untrue beliefs that are influencing our thinking, feeling, actions and results around money and other areas in our life in a negative way. This week on The Money Love Podcast we are exploring the concept of thought errors and I am also sharing with you the most common 20 thought errors that I hear from my community of women. These are errors in thinking around our brain and it’s purpose, our emotions, our money, and also the laws of the universe. Once we start identifying these thought errors we can start the important process of bringing awareness to them, challenging them, and replacing them with more liberating truths that will bring us closer to the financial results that we want. Have you ever experienced buyer’s remorse around a purchase? If you have, then this week’s episode is for you. In order for us to beat buyer’s remorse for good, we have to gain a deeper understanding of what buyer’s remorse is and where it really comes from. So many of us who have experienced buyer’s remorse in the past think that the remorse, guilt, and regret is coming from the circumstances surrounding our purchase. We think that it’s the product's fault that we feel remorse when really the buyer’s remorse is coming from within us by our thoughts and beliefs about our purchases. In this week’s episode of The Money Love Podcast we are diving deep into the concept of buyer’s remorse and how you can beat it moving forward. We cover what buyer’s remorse is, what actually causes buyer’s remorse vs. what we think causes it, the two types of buyer’s remorse, and the measures and practices you can put into place to overcome it so that it no longer has to be a part of your spending experience. If regret, remorse, and guilt are primary emotions that you’re used to feeling around your purchases then this episode is for you and will transform your emotional experience around your spending habits moving forward. 80: Debt Discussion Part II - Thoughts About Debt
Your debt is a neutral circumstance in your life, which means that you have the opportunity and the obligation to intentionally manage your thoughts around it. How skilled you become at observing, challenging, and managing your debt thoughts will determine your emotional experience around your debt which will fuel the actions you take around it and the results you create in terms of paying it off and using it in a way that helps you rather than hurts you. However, most of us never go through this process because we think that there is only one option for how we can think about our debt which is the type of thinking that is rooted in scarcity, fear, lack, and anxiety. The good news is, there is another way, and this week I’m excited to offer you those alternative viewpoints and beliefs when it comes to your debt. In this week’s episode of The Money Love Podcast, we are continuing our “Debt Discussion”. We will be talking about the two different types of debt (the kind that can help you and the kind that can hurt you) and how to think about your debt in terms of your past, present, and future versions of yourself. By the end of this episode, you will fully understand why your thoughts and beliefs about your debt are so important and alternatives for how you can think about your debt in a way that will serve you better moving forward. 79: Debt Discussion Part 1 - How I think about and use debt as a tool to build wealth
What are the predominant thoughts and emotions that you hold around debt? Are they mostly negative, or positive? I know for so many women in my community, including myself in the past, debt and the decision to take on debt was one that was very moral in nature. I viewed debt as something bad, and I made myself wrong for being someone who had taken on debt in the past. Because of that, my past experiences with debt were very negative and were filled with fear, anxiety, and shame. My entire experience with my debt was a painful one. However, in the past 3-4 years my mindset on debt and how I use it as a part of my overall financial strategy has taken a 180 and I now have a completely different experience and relationship with debt and how I use it to create the financial results I want. In this week’s episode of The Money Love Podcast, we are kicking off a 2-week series that I am calling a “Debt Discussion”. We will be talking about how to think about debt as a neutral tool, why it doesn’t have to be a moral decision, how it can be used as a way to increase the levels of wealth in your life (versus decreasing the level of wealth in your life) and also I’m walking you through 5 concrete examples of how I have intentionally chosen to take on debt in the past or in the present so that I can create more wealth for myself personally and in my business in the future. This will be an episode that will challenge the way that you see debt and will give you permission to use it in ways you might not have considered before. Enjoy! 78: Thank God I'm Rich
What are your favorite thoughts to think about money? Do you even have any? Do you intentionally create the thoughts and beliefs you want to have about money based on what will help you create the financial results you want or do you let your brain run on default? Over the past couple of years I have identified, adopted, and practiced my favorite thoughts to think about money, one of which is “Thank God I’m Rich.” By practicing and adopting these thoughts about money as a part of my money belief system I have been able to experience money in an entirely new way. These thoughts and beliefs are the driving force behind the financial results I’ve been able to create and will be the catalyst behind my future financial results. In this week’s episode of The Money Love Podcast, I’m sharing with you my five favorite thoughts and truths that I love to think about money and how it works as a tool in my life. We’re exploring why your thoughts about money are so important, why we need to create them on purpose, what my five favorite money thoughts are and how you can start creating your own. If you’re curious about my personal belief system surrounding money this will be an episode you won’t want to miss. Enjoy! 77: Are you winning or losing?
Are you winning or losing with the purchasing decisions that you make? Many of us don’t even realize that when we are spending money, we are making an exchange of value. We get so numb to swiping our credit cards that we forgot to evaluate if we’re making a positive winning exchange with our money or a negative losing exchange with our money. The truth is that every time you spend money you are giving yourself the opportunity to either increase the level of value in your life, or decrease the level of value in your life. The choice is yours, but your spending can be a tool that you use to fill up your life to the brim with value. Sadly, most of us don’t use it that way. This week on The Money Love Podcast we are talking about a concept I created called the spending value exchange which is one of my 5 qualities of being a good spender. We talk about what the spending value exchange is, why it’s important, what it looks like to be on the winning side, and also what it looks like to be on the losing side of the exchange. It’s a concept that will take your spending habits and your financial results to the next level. It’s how we transform our spending from being an act filled with questioning, shame, and regret to an act that empowers us and helps us reach our next-level self. This is a transformative episode you won’t want to miss. 76: Your Financial BFF
Many of us rely on the black and white “rules” of money that we feel we “should” be following to inform our financial decisions. When we do this, we create lives and financial realities that don’t reflect our purest desires but rather a version of our life that is based on obligation. But what if instead, we could use another tool besides these restrictive money rules to guide and inform the way we receive, have, and release money that allows us to create what we actually want? A tool that empowers us to live into the truest and purest vision of what we genuinely desire. This tool is the future version of yourself. The wiser, more mature, more experienced, wealthier version of you, and she is out there wanting to help and guide you, but she also is depending on you to go out and find her and to make her a reality. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast, we’re talking about the amazing tool of tapping into your future self and how she is your financial BFF. We cover what your future self is, how to uncover her and how to get super specific on who she is, what she looks like, and the life she lives, and how to use her guidance and wisdom to inform your future spending choices and money decisions. This is a tool that can be a total game-changer for you if you take the time to discover her and get to know her on a deep level. 75: The One Thing You Can't Avoid
It's impossible to create the financial results that you want without experiencing discomfort. We are all programmed to believe that we can make choices with our money and with our spending where we can avoid discomfort altogether. We can't. Discomfort is coming along for the ride whether you want it to or not. With discomfort, the question isn't “Will I feel it?”. The question is rather “When will I feel it and to what extent?". When we impulsively make purchases and when we overspend, we are making the choice that is going to help us avoid discomfort in the short term. But when you do that consistently, you're not actually avoiding the discomfort you're trying so badly to escape. You're really prolonging and amplifying the discomfort to a future moment that your future self will have to deal with and clean up on a larger scale. So the choice comes down “Do I want to feel a smaller amount of discomfort right now? Or feel it on a larger scale in the future?” This is the question we are exploring on this week’s episode of The Money Love Podcast. When we realize that discomfort is something that can't be avoided we can start to embrace it and start making more disciplined choices with our spending that help us create the financial results that we want. Running away from discomfort just creates more of it. Embracing it creates less of it, so let's all embrace it. If this is an area you need help with, I encourage you to join us within Overcoming Overspending (using the below link) in the month of March to snag the founding member rate, which will be the lowest price I will ever offer. 74: When You're Not Spending
Have you ever thought about what you’re buying yourself and what you’re creating for your future self when you’re not spending your money? For those of us who love to shop and spend, we view having and saving our money as the opposing force to what we really want. We think that having your money is boring, restrictive, and unnecessary. But what if I told you that wasn’t the case. What if I told you that you get to go shopping with every dollar you earn and the question isn’t “Should I save or should I spend?” but rather “I get to go shopping. What do I want to buy myself? Something tangible or something intangible?” In this episode of The Money Love Podcast, we’re talking about a groundbreaking concept about what you buy for yourself when you’re not spending. We explore what the opposite of spending is, the difference between having and saving your money, what you buy yourself when you’re spending and not spending your money, which is more valuable, and how to shift your mindset so that regardless of what you choose (spend or don’t spend) you win and feeling amazing about your choice. This episode will truly change the way you manage your money for the better. Enjoy! 72: Your Spending Self-Concept
What do you believe to be true about you? The thoughts that you think about yourself are the most important thoughts you think because they form your self-concept. Our self-concept feeds how confident, worthy, and capable we feel when it comes to managing our money at the highest level and it’s constantly either working for you or against you. The truth is, you are a self-fulfilling prophecy. The thoughts that you think about yourself will come true through the way we are designed as human beings. Whatever you think about, you will bring about. This is why your self-concept when it comes to your finances and your spending is so important. It is the beginning and end of every financial result you create. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast we’re talking about one of the most underappreciated yet most impactful thought work concepts there is, your self-concept. In this episode, we explore what your spending self-concept is, the most common self-concept of overspenders, why your self-concept matters, how it always ends up proving itself true, and how to form a positive self-concept that serves you in creating the financial results you desire. This episode will show you the importance of the thoughts you think about the most important person in your world, yourself. Enjoy! 71: The Spending Shame Cycle
Have you ever felt ashamed over a past money decision you’ve made? Maybe you bought an item impulsively, you spent money you didn’t have resulting in debt, or you bought an item you didn’t get any use out of. If you’ve felt shame about your past spending choices you’re not alone. Shame is a deep-rooted and prevalent emotion that keeps us trapped in secrecy and judgment and if not dealt with properly keeps us from reaching our full financial potential. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast we’re talking about a concept I call the spending shame cycle that keeps us stuck financially and repeating practiced spending behaviors that don’t serve us in the long run. We explore the areas of our finances where shame is most prevalent, the difference between shame and guilt, where shame comes from, the four phases of the spending shame cycle, why it’s so difficult for us to break out of and the process we can go through to lessen the grip that shame has within our finances and over our life. If shame is an emotion you feel is prevalent within your relationship with money this episode is one that will be an absolute game-changer. Enjoy! 70: Money Well Spent
What’s the best money you’ve ever spent? A time when you spent your money on an item, service, or experience where you felt good spending the money in the moment and you still felt amazing about the purchase a week, month, or year later? This is what I call "money well spent". Money that is spent where the value or result that you get from what you bought is more valuable to you than the money that you spent to acquire it. My ultimate goal is to help you align your spending so that most, if not all, of the money that you spend is money well spent. This week on The Money Love Podcast we’re diving into four ways that you can spend your money that are scientifically proven to boost your happiness and satisfaction levels. These “money well spent” categories work because they touch on core needs and desires that we have as human beings like self-love and connection with others. If you want to feel happier, your money is a tool that can deliver that happiness to you. This will be an episode you don’t want to miss. Enjoy! 69: Consumer Culture Is Lying To You
You’re being lied to. Every day, each of us consumes false messages from consumer culture that are fundamentally untrue. These messages have one goal and objective, which is to get you to spend your money on things that you don’t really need in order to create an emotional state you deeply desire. The lies of consumer culture are everywhere, and they run deep in our programming in how we think about money and ultimately, the purchasing decisions that we make. In this week’s episode of The Money Love Podcast, we are diving into the lies of consumer culture. We explore three primary beliefs and foundational principles that consumer culture wants you to believe and adopt, ultimately so that you will spend more money and acquire more things in accordance with their agenda instead of your own. This episode will be one that will open your eyes and increase your awareness of your environment so that you can gain back control, and spend your money in a way that reflects your unique values and pursuits instead of the values and agenda of consumer culture. 68: Finding Balance With Your Money
Your brain is not wired for balance. Your brain is wired for polarization. Your brain loves black and white all or nothing thinking and in all aspects of life, your brain wants you to pick a side and to not entertain that the opposite could be true. This is what quiets the cognitive dissonance between possibilities and creates the certainty that your brain is always seeking. This is even true in the way that we think about money which becomes problematic because when you’re not thinking about money in a balanced way, you will not have an emotional experience with money that is balanced which means you won’t manage your finances in a balanced way. You will live in the extremes, in the all or nothing, which closes you off to new possibilities and reaching your highest potential. In this week of The Money Love Podcast we’re talking all about balance and how to create it within your finances. We start with exploring why achieving balance in life is so difficult and why our brain fights balance, how so much of the common money messages we absorb don’t promote balance, and the steps that we can take to create a more balanced mental, emotional, and tactical management style with our money. 67: Why I'm Not Setting Any Goals in 2022
For the first time in a long time, I’m starting out a new year without any goals I'm working towards. I decided that I'm going to try something completely different in 2022. The truth is, I set some big, scary, crazy goals in 2021 and I didn't come anywhere close to hitting most of them. Like, I missed the mark big time. And then, I used missing the mark as a reason to beat myself up and I felt like a failure in so many ways. Now, I know I'm not alone here. In fact, only 9% of people actually achieve their New Year's resolutions each year. For most of us (myself included) we enter each year with exciting goals but by February 1 the pursuit of those goals is long gone and we're left feeling discouraged and disappointed in ourselves. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast I’m breaking down the inherent issues that we run into with the goal-setting process and I'm explaining why I'm confident 2022 will be my best year yet without any goals leading the way. In this episode we're going to discuss why I'm not setting goals in 2022, the misunderstanding about goals that leads to abandonment, the secret behind creating any result you want in your finances, what I'm focusing on in 2022 instead of striving towards goals, and why I'm confident 2022 will be my best year ever without goals. 66: Intentional Thought Creation
Do you create your thoughts on purpose? Or do you let your thoughts run on default and be based on past programming that isn’t serving you? The sad reality is that most people don’t realize that the quality of their thoughts will determine the quality of their lives and are the catalyst of every result they desire to create. Many adults live in a state of emotional childhood, attributing their emotions to their financial circumstances, and because of this they don’t realize the importance of their thoughts and as a result, they never practice the life-changing practice of intentional thought creation. In this week of The Money Love Podcast, we’re talking all about the process of intentional thought creation and why it matters. I also walk you through the 4-step process of intentional thought creation that will enable you to reach your full financial potential. The message of this episode is simple: You either learn to control your thoughts, or your thoughts will control you. One path leads to you creating and living an extraordinary life, and the other will lead to a life of repeated underwhelming results. There is no result that is off the table for you to create because there is no thought that you cannot think and perfect with the process of intentional thought creation. Enjoy! 65: Pure Financial Circumstances
What would happen if you stripped away all the judgements, all the opinions, all the interpretations from your finances and you evaluated your current financial situation simply by the facts and the numbers? Doing this brings you into a place I call your pure financial circumstances, which ultimately is a place to rest from and escape the never-ending emotions, judgments and opinions we place on our financial situation. In this week's episode of The Money Love Podcast we’re talking all about a coaching topic that can be a game-changer, which is the pure financial circumstance. It’s the practice of evaluating your finances by the pure facts. When we can do this, we can give ourselves a reprieve from the negative emotion we often feel around our finances. We can find temporary peace in the neutrality, because neutrality is the safe space between negative and positive. Between suffering and success. It's only when we accept the neutrality of our situation that we give ourselves the opportunity to rewrite our story and intentionally create thoughts that help us create the financial results we most desire. 64: Your Spouse's Spending Choices
Does your spouse’s spending choices drive you crazy? Or maybe they make you scratch your head in confusion with what they choose to spend money on? If this sounds like you, you’re not alone. The truth is, most couples don’t have similar or even complimentary money backgrounds and personalities which can lead to differences in spending, saving, and earning choices. The good news is, these differences don’t have to lead to division within your relationship. In fact, these differences can be used as a unique opportunity to understand each other on a deeper level and deepen the financial intimacy between the two of you. In this week of The Money Love Podcast we’re talking all about your spouse’s or partners spending and money choices. I walk you through three impactful coaching concepts that will help you shift out of criticism of your partner and into curiosity with their financial choices. These are three coaching concepts that have helped me tremendously and that I have applied to my own relationship that has brought my husband and I closer together, and I know they have the power to do the same within your relationships. 63: Material Wealth vs. Emotional Wealth
What is the correlation that you make between your material wealth and your emotional wealth? Do you believe that one is dependent on the other? That in order to reach the highest levels of emotional wealth you must also achieve immense amounts of material wealth? The strong and positive correlation between material and emotional wealth is one of the most prominent, yet most damaging beliefs that we have about money. The problem is, it’s a belief that is widely socialized and deeply believed in the consumer culture that we live in. This means that so many people strive for material wealth in an attempt to achieve emotional wealth, only to be confused and disappointed when they realize that one does not guarantee the other. On this episode of The Money Love Podcast, we are discussing material wealth vs emotional wealth. We explore what each is and what it looks like, the correlation between the two (if any), which one should be the priority, and 4 principles that you can apply to make emotional wealth a priority. This will absolutely be an episode that challenges you to think in a new way that will help you avoid one of the most dangerous traps and lies that consumer culture tries to sell us. Enjoy! 61: Why You Buy
Do you ever feel like you can’t stop spending money? That you spend money without much second thought or consideration? If you do, you’re not alone. The truth is when it comes to spending money, oftentimes we aren’t thinking rationally, but rather are relying on more emotional and subjective thinking to drive our purchasing decisions. Many women don’t realize their purchasing decisions are being governed by powerful cognitive biases and psychological phenomena. When we start to look closer at these biases we can start to understand the answer to the question “Why do we buy?”. On this episode of The Money Love Podcast, we are looking at the five main cognitive biases that drive us to buy. We take a look at each to understand what they are, how they affect us psychologically, and how marketers utilize them to increase the likelihood of you spending money. Ultimately this episode will increase your level of awareness and help you be the watcher of your own mind to become a more mindful and intentional spender. Enjoy! 60: Your Brain On A Sale
Are you a sucker for a sale? Do you feel like you struggle to say “no” when you’re presented with a deal? If so, you’re not alone. Many women struggle with resisting the temptation of a sale because we are constantly exposed to them coupled with the fact that our brains are wired to be enticed by sales. Because of this we often are making purchasing decisions that are more about “winning” and snagging the deal rather than the value we are receiving from the item. On this episode of The Money Love Podcast, we are kicking off a new series called Why We Buy where we evaluate the “why” (aka the psychology) behind why we do what we do with our money decisions. 59: Financial Self-Care
When you think of self-care, what do you think of? Consumer culture wants to tell us that self-care looks like bubble baths, massages, naps, manicures, and massages. In reality, these are often activities that we self-sabotage with because they provide distractions from our emotions, they don’t solve the underlying problem we’re facing and they end up moving us farther away from the desired result we are working to create. Contrary to popular belief, self-care doesn’t always feel good. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast we are diving into the topic of self-care. We talk about how our consumeristic culture defines self-care and how that differs from a truer and healthier form of self-care. We then dive deep into four different types of self-care and how those can be applied to your financial management so that you’re reaching your full financial potential. This episode will have you thinking about self-care in an entirely new way, and in a way that will serve you much better in creating the financial results you’re working towards. Enjoy! 58: Financial Self-Sabotage
Do you feel that you’re constantly self-sabotaging your finances? If so, then this episode of The Money Love Podcast is for you. Self-sabotage is actions that we take that move us farther away from a desired state or actions that we avoid that would move us closer to that desired state. It’s all caused by our resistance to a future emotional state and is really the way our brain protects us from engaging in things that feel scary and unfamiliar to us. The great news is, self-sabotage is something that is within our control and can be stopped. But, knowing that this is within our control, how do we stop the vicious spiral of disrupting our progress towards our goals and dreams? On this episode of The Money Love Podcast, we take a deep dive into self-sabotage. You will learn what it is, why we do it, and 4 of the primary ways that we self-sabotage our finances. Listen in to find out how you can kick self-sabotage to the curb and take control of your finances and life. Enjoy! 57: Sufficiency
Do you believe that you are enough? That you currently have enough? That there will be enough in the future to have all of your needs and desires met? Consumer culture that we live in immerses us in the message that we constantly need to be striving for more because our current state is inadequate and cannot meet our needs. We are all sold the message that our happiness simply lies on the other side of a credit card swipe. Unfortunately, this creates a false message that bigger is better, and the acquisition of more is the ultimate solution to all our woes. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast, we’re diving deep into one of the most important, yet one of the most challenging concepts when it comes to financial management which is managing your spending in a way that enables you to reach sufficiency and enoughness. This week I teach you a mind-blowing concept called The Fulfillment Curve to evaluate your future spending through that will ensure that the spending that you’re doing leads to increased happiness and fulfillment rather than having the opposite effect. I am confident that this will be one of the most impactful episodes to date. Enjoy! 56: Happy Money
When you think of your money would you say that it’s happy, or unhappy? How do you feel when you receive money, have money, and spend money? As a society, we’re all conditioned to have a range of negative beliefs and feelings around money which means we look to create more of it in all the wrong places and we manage it in a way that doesn’t serve our financial futures. Money is energy, and as a source of energy, it is attracted to and flows to where it feels welcomed and appreciated. This is the concept of happy money. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast, we’re diving deep into the concept of happy money. What creates money that is happy, why it’s important, and a simple yet powerful exercise you can do that will increase the level of gratitude and appreciation that you have for the money you currently have. 55: How Greed
When it comes to creating new results with your money do you ever catch yourself saying, “I would, but I don’t know how”? Or wishing that some money guru would just tell you exactly how to pay off debt, start investing, or budget perfectly? Or that I would give you a foolproof plan for achieving all of your money goals? That’s how greed. Asking someone else for the step-by-step, guaranteed-success process is usually a sneaky way of avoiding the need to take responsibility if it doesn’t work. And it makes us feel like we can skip over all the not-so-nice emotions that are part of the journey: fear, embarrassment, confusion, and all the rest. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast, we’re diving deep into the concept of how greed and the importance of taking responsibility for your own process and success. If you determine your own how, you’re building a skill that will serve you in every area of your life. You’re willing to experiment, fail, and try again and again until you create every result with your money that you desire. Enjoy! Do you know the difference between being rich and being wealthy? Many of us think that they are the same thing, but surprisingly they’re not as interconnected as we think and it’s absolutely possible to create one but not have the other. There are many people who are rich and not wealthy, and there are also many people who aren’t rich but are wealthy. In this week’s episode of The Money Love Podcast we are breaking down the differences between riches and wealth. We explore what each of them is, the difference between the two in both philosophy and behavior, which one is best, and if it’s possible for you to create either of them. 53: The Urge to Spend
One of the most important yet underutilized skills when it comes to spending intentionally is learning how to allow the urges you feel to spend rather than immediately responding to them. Urges demand action from us, and most of us indulge in the urge immediately to make it go away. However, there is another way to respond to the urges you feel that doesn’t require overspending and impulsive spending, and I’m here to walk you through that process. In the episode of The Money Love Podcast, we are talking about urges and the role they play in spending money. We cover what urges are, where they come from, why resisting them doesn’t work, the best way to process through them and to end the episode I teach you a practical tool you can implement to process through them rather than react to them. Sinking Funds are one of my favorite financial tools you can use to take your finances to the next level as they are smaller pools of money that you save up gradually over time for larger expenses you know are coming your way. When you utilize sinking funds as part of your overall financial strategy you are being proactive rather than reactive. You are doing what is in the financial best interest of your future self instead of doing what feels good in the moment. You’re gaining control over your money instead of your money gaining control over you. They are the ultimate tool in eliminating surprises and frustration with your finances. In the episode of The Money Love Podcast, we are diving deep into the topic of sinking funds: what they are, the benefits of having them, how to identify which sinking funds you need, how to determine how much to contribute to each, and lastly, how to keep them organized and manage them practically day-to-day. If you’re someone who feels like they need to reign in the amount you spend on food, particularly eating out, this episode is for you. Earlier this year I went 125 consecutive days without eating out one single time. Prior to that, I was eating out 5-7 times a week on average. Although the decision to do this wasn’t financially motivated, it absolutely made a big difference in my finances with the money I was able to save each month not eating out on a consistent basis. In the episode of The Money Love Podcast, we are talking about eating out and how to do less of it so that you can put money back into your pocket so that it can go to other purposes. I share with you the story of the 125 day eating-out hiatus and my biggest tips for creating this result. Did you know that being a good spender is something that you become? Contrary to popular belief, it’s not an inherited personality trait. You aren’t born either a “good” spender or a “bad” spender. But rather, it’s a skill that you develop by practicing and mastering certain behavioral principles over time. In the episode of The Money Love Podcast, we are diving into the topic of how to become a good spender. I explain why becoming a good spender is so important to your overall financial health and the five principles and habits that make someone a good spender. I believe that the spending aspect of money is the great equalizer when it comes to building wealth. 48: Bored Money Choices
When was the last time you let yourself be bored? Usually, when we feel boredom coming on, we frantically look for something to entertain or occupy us, and oftentimes that involves spending money in an unplanned and impulsive way. Boredom is an emotion within our culture that is greatly misunderstood and so many are using the boredom they feel as a weapon against themselves. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be this way because contrary to popular belief, boredom can be the breeding ground for insight, inspiration, and creativity. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast we are diving into the emotion of boredom, the money choices that stem from it, and how boredom can actually be a beautiful thing instead of the fuel that flames poor money choices. I show you how to use boredom and be open to what it shows you. I tell you how to intentionally practice being bored and how to stop trying to outrun it and also how to shift the actions that come from boredom from consuming to creating. 47: The Power of Questions
Questions are one of the most powerful, yet underrated tools that we have at our disposal. Questions open our minds to possibility and creativity. They challenge us to question the mundane and see things in a new way. Everything that has ever been created or imagined, started as a question that someone set out to answer. Questions are a tool that can change your life, for better or for worst. Unfortunately, most people use questions in a way that hurts them rather than helps them. They ask questions of themselves that are soaked in negativity and limiting beliefs and their brains go to work in finding evidence that those beliefs are true, which only ends up keeping them stuck. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast we are diving into one of my favorite tools, asking powerful questions. We are talking about why questions are so powerful, how our brains are wired to answer them, and how to ask more empowering and inspiring questions that will provide you with creative and inspiring answers to propel you forward in both your finances and in your life in general. In this week’s episode of The Money Love Podcast, we are exploring the topic of instant versus delayed gratification. 37: The Price of People-Pleasing
When we people please our way through life we are being dishonest with ourselves and with others. Ultimately, we lie about and hide our true thoughts and desires so that people will see us in a certain way and we end up putting forth a version of ourselves that is inauthentic and building relationships that are built on falsehood. There is a huge price to pay for people-pleasing. It costs you opportunity by saying “no” to things you want to be saying “yes” to. It costs you time by saying “yes” to the things you want to say “no” to. And then there is the literal cost of people-pleasing with the money that you spend trying to appease another person and manipulate how they feel about you. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast, we talk about why as women we feel the strong need to people please, explore what it’s costing you, and go through four tools and mindset shifts that you can implement in your life so you can stop people-pleasing and paying the high price that comes with it. 30: Using Credit Cards
It’s time to talk all about CREDIT CARDS. I’m so passionate about talking about credit cards because it’s an area of money that generates a lot of confusion. This conflicting messaging and the credit card scripts that we have picked up along the way can make using credit cards overwhelming and frankly a little scary. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast I share with you some common misconceptions about credit cards, the benefits of using them, and how to determine if you should use them as a tool within your financial tool belt. Lastly, my new course Credit Card Clarity is HERE. This is my complete A-Z guide on credit cards that teaches you my exact system for earning $2,900 in credit card perks in 2020 while paying $0 in interest. 29: Paying Off Debt
Many of us are in such a hurry to pay off our debt because we think we have no other choice but to get it gone ASAP. We think that “there” is better than “here”. Because of that, we can make choices that aren’t in our long-term financial best interest and we also make decisions out of “having to”, rather than “wanting to.” In this unique episode of The Money Love Podcast, I blend the mindset with the tactical when it comes to paying off your debt. I offer you critical mindset shifts you can make so that you’re able to pay off your debt not from a place of obligation, but from an empowered stance of wanting to and abundance. In addition to that, I give you the knowledge and share helpful tools to pick your payoff pace and select your debt payoff method so that you have a clear and realistic plan moving forward to pay off your debt with ease. If you currently have consumer debt you’re looking to pay off, this is going to be the episode for you. Enjoy! 28: Your Debt Mindset
Do you have debt? If you do, you’re not going to want to miss this week’s episode of The Money Love Podcast. In this week’s episode I’m going to challenge you to think about debt in an entirely new way. It might be a viewpoint that you’ve never been introduced to before, but I find it’s a much more productive way to view debt and the role it plays in our life. So many people use their debt as a reason to beat themselves up, to punish themselves, to indulge in self-loathing and frankly, none of it is necessary. That type of mindset just ends up creating more scarcity and unwanted results in our life. Instead, we can choose to view debt in an entirely new way. As a neutral tool that we can use to gain access to more capital, and one that doesn’t have to be used as a source of self-loathing. By the end of this episode you won’t ever think about debt in the same light as you have. Enjoy! Do you struggle to find contentment and appreciation for your current financial situation? Do you wish you could be more financially generous? Money is a core survival issue. A resource that we need to survive in modern-day society. Because of that, our brains fight us in giving it away which means that our minds are wired for scarcity and to primarily focus on what don't have, rather than what we do have. 18: How To Disagree About Money
Can you have a conversation with someone and completely disagree with them without getting mad or upset? Do you feel like you need to make the other person agree with you or you totally disconnect from them? Most of us are not great at disagreeing with others and staying calm, especially when it comes to money. One of the things I’ve learned from coaching people from all financial walks of life is that your money beliefs are NOT meant for other people. They are meant for YOU. Ultimately, what other people want to do and what’s true for them is for them to discover and change if THEY choose to do so. I believe that disagreeing is an art, and today I share my suggestions for how to use disagreement as a way to connect instead of disconnect and to gain a better understanding of other people and the world in general. Boundaries are a beautiful tool that we can use to take care of and protect our emotional well-being. They are not designed to keep people out of our lives, but rather to protect important spaces in our lives. They are something we create for us, not something that we create for other people. Setting clear and respectful boundaries is challenging work, but it is the work of true intimacy and leads to more honesty and connection within your relationships. In this episode of The Money Love Podcast, we are going to explore what a boundary is, when it’s appropriate to have one, why they are important, how to communicate one, and lastly, how to effectively enforce your boundaries from a place of peace and love. 15: Your Money Manual
Whether we know it or not, most of us have manuals that we have “written” for other people in our lives on what they should do and how they should behave. Most often these people are not even aware that these “rule books” exist, yet we expect them to follow the rules and get upset with them when they don’t. This is especially true when it comes to money, and the "money rules" we feel others should follow. It is important to understand that even though it is perfectly okay to have certain expectations of other people, we can get ourselves into big trouble when we start tying our emotional happiness to their responses to those expectations. On this episode of The Money Love Podcast, you will learn how you can let go of all your rules and control attempts towards everyone you have manuals for and lead a life full of long-lasting and conflict-free relationships.
