In this episode, I sit down with Cat and Nat – podcast hosts, co-authors, and best friends – to talk about blending families and what it’s like raising seven kids between the two of them and their spouses. We discuss how they came to such an integrated way of living and why non-judgment made it all possible, how our culture isn’t set up for communal support, and why it truly takes a village to raise children. They share the most exciting part about parenting teenagers versus the hardest part, how they navigate social media with teens, and why they’re developing a course on parenting and social media. Things I Wish I Knew Before Having a Baby
In this solo episode, I share what I wish I knew before having a baby, from never being able to have the “perfect” timeline for having kids; to how friendships and relationships might evolve once you become a parent. I talk about the intensity of having your priorities completely shift to another person and away from yourself, why it’s so important to find what makes you feel like “you,” and why giving yourself a window of transition time during your days, especially during postpartum, can be a lifesaver. I also discuss the unpredictability of what works one day with your child versus what might not work the next day, the confidence that comes from being a parent, how important choosing your village is — from your partner, to your friendships — aand more.Key Takeaway / Points:On never having the perfect timelineOn your priorities shifting away from yourselfOn finding what makes you feel like yourselfGiving yourself a window of time to transition into different parts of your dayOn the energy it takes to feed another personThe unpredictability of what works one day vs. what doesn’t the nextOn the joy of watching your child experience the worldOn the confidence that comes from being a parentOn the judgment you experience as a momOn how important your village is, including your partnerHow your friendships might shiftListen to Ep 207: “What I Wish I Knew in my Twenties” hereThis episode may contain paid endorsements and advertisements for products and services. Comparing My Postpartum Experiences: Mental Health, Letting Go of Control, and What I’ve Learned
In this solo episode, I unpack how both of my postpartum experiences have differed, from my relationships with anxiety and depression; to my fixation on controlling outcomes; to how I have prioritized self care and developed mental health toolkits for myself. I recap my first postpartum experience in 2021, sharing what my relationship with anxiety was like before getting pregnant and how it manifested in postpartum, and how my need for control created obsessive behaviors. I then share my second and most recent postpartum experience, from dealing with sleep issues with both children; to feeling mentally stronger; to letting go of how things “should be” and embracing them for what they are. Finally, I share what I wish I had started earlier during postpartum, and what I would tell myself as a first-time mother experiencing both the highs and lows of postpartum.Key Takeaway / Points:Recapping my first postpartum experience in 2021My relationship with anxiety and journey with anxiety medication before getting pregnantOn planning for postpartum anxiety and depression before giving birthWhen and how my mental health struggles hit during postpartumHow I developed a self-care toolkit and prioritized my mental healthOn experiencing intrusive thoughtsOn my need for control and planning obsessivelyMy postpartum experience with our second childOn dealing with sleep issues with both childrenWhat has helped with my mental health this time aroundOn letting go of control as a second-time momWhat I wish I had started earlier during postpartumWhat I would tell myself during my first postpartum experienceThis episode may contain paid endorsements and advertisements for products and services. The Home Stretch of Pregnancy and Looking Ahead as a Mother of Two
In this episode, I share how I’m feeling two and a half weeks out from my due date, what I’m doing for my body right now, and how my maternity leave will look personally and work-wise in the coming months. I discuss the question of sharing content during postpartum, what I want to prioritize during postpartum and do differently this time around, and why a recent experience with early labor pains brought up some deep-seated anxieties. Finally, I unpack the intense emotions I’ve been feeling around going from one child to two, the conflicting urge I have to share a final moment with my son before the new baby comes, and the recent Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift gossip that has everybody talking.Key Takeaway / Points:How I’m feeling two and a half weeks out from my due dateWhat I’m doing for my body right nowOn the question of sharing content during postpartumOn what my maternity leave will look likeWhat I want to prioritize in postpartum and do differently this timeOn the mind fuck that is the end of pregnancyOn my intense emotions around going from one child to twoOn the conflicting urge to share a final goodbye with my son before the new baby comesOn the Travis Kielce and Taylor Swift gossThis episode may contain paid endorsements and advertisements for products and services. The Freedom in “Less” with Olivia Noceda
Episode Description: In this episode, I sit down with friend and content creator Olivia Noceda to talk about priorities, boundaries, and understanding what we want versus what we think we want. We reflect on a time Olivia was there for me during a postpartum breakdown, and Olivia shares how she has developed her journey with boundaries over time. She also discusses why regularly establishing your priorities in life is essential, how the impulse of comparison on social media is inevitable, and why fiction and escapism can be so freeing. She also talks about her path to sober curiosity, how we can become addicted to routine, and why in a culture of “more,” “less” is actually the key to finding freedom and release.Key Takeaway / Points:Remembering a time when Olivia was there for me during a postpartum breakdownHow Olivia has developed her journey with boundariesWhy regularly establishing your priorities is essentialOn the impulse of comparison with social mediaOn the concept of being addicted to romance and escapismThe importance of fiction in our livesOlivia’s journey with sober curiosityWhy it’s healthy to observe our relationships with vices, from alcohol to social mediaOn becoming addicted to routineOn what you think you want vs. what you actually wantOn the freedom and release that comes from “less” Listen to the Armchair Expert episode with Anna Lembke hereThis episode may contain paid endorsements and advertisements for products and services. In this episode, I give a life update and share my recent experience being eight months pregnant at my cousin’s wedding, and how I’m generally feeling physically and mentally.
