In this episode Maki and Peter answer questions to do:-with the parable of f the soil -is this parable about soil wholly passive on the part of the soil?Or can we learn something which is relevant to making ourselves good (or better) soil? -with the secrecy or privacy theme of Jesus' healing and teaching and its mystery in the Gospels.

Maki speaks from Hebrews, chapter 10:19-25. "Draw near to God"

Theme: A word for today!  Hebrews 3 picks on how Jesus is superior than Moses.  In the back of this argument the writer is exhorting the Christian recipients to carry on with their commitment to Jesus. He does this by giving them: Three imperative verbs in the chapter: Consider Jesus (Heb. 3:1), Be careful (Heb. 3:12) and Warn/Encourage each other.  A sense urgency to check that hearts are not hardened by reminding them of Psalm 95 which in itself is a Psalm of a call to worship. (Heb. 3:7-11)A reminder of a story of people of God where they missed His blessing because of hardening their hearts from Numbers 13 and 14. 1 Cor 10 recalls the story in the context of people refusing their calling to the spiritual purposes of God to worship him and to manifest His character in relationship and blessing to other.  Hebrews 3 and 4 recalls the same story in the context of unbelief and suspicion towards God’s provision and promises as too good to be true. (Heb. 3.11 cf Ps. 95, Heb 3.7-11)A warning of that they are not exempt from rebelling against God and the responsibility of encouraging each other so none is deceived by sin and hardened against God.  (Heb. 3:13) May God through His Spirit enable us that our hearts are towards the Living God!

Repentance and humbling ourselves before God being mark by actions 4. There is strength together  in faithfulness and worship5. Celebrate your salvation

Our purpose in life as followers of Jesus is (in short) to love God, love people & share the gospel. King Saul got his purpose and plan confused - caring more about being the most loved King (the plan for his life) than following God (his purpose).In contrast, lowly shepherd boy David stayed humble, trusted God and did his best where he was.We can learn from David and live out our purpose where we are - not going in search of a Goliath moment but making the most out of our current situation and trusting that God has us here for a reason. 

When a people forget God and sin, he disciplines them.When they come to their senses and cry out to him, he sends a deliverer and relief.Then and now 

Gilgal, in Joshua 5 becomes the place where the devotion for God is rekindled and His promises refreshed. God will provide but His strategy and schedule for the next steps is different. He will address people’s neglect, He will heal them and remind them of His power through the celebration of Passover.  Rare but possible that God, Israel and Joshua as their leader are in harmony! 

In Psalm 63 David writes how he is lead to the path of satisfaction although in a hostile situation. He is desperately thirsty for God and He knows God is the only one who satisfies. David remembers that he has  had his thirst quenched in the past, and this fuels his praise and certainty for safety in God’s hands.  Jesus said: Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink, whoever believes in me as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from them… John 7:37-38#thirstquenched  

The path to forgiveness and restoration. After being confronted by Nathan the prophet for stealing someone else’s wife and killing her husband and covering David repents.  As a skilful songwriter he distils his experience of turning back to God and depending on his unfailing love, great compassion and full of mercy and justice.  He is not saying sorry so that he saves his career but He prays that God would forgive, change, not abandon, give back the joy and use him.  If you sense you are stuck, distant or stagnant come to God, get on track of the path of forgiveness and restoration.God is able, willing and forgiving!

Do you prefer listening to God or God listening to you? Spend time listening to the majestic voice of God! Build relationship with Him through a 2-way conversation and practice listening to His voice day to day life. His voice is powerful.

According to Jesus and according to Paul the unity of the believers makes the good news of Jesus credible. Diversity and differences with all their challenges are the areas that enhance the beauty of God’s intentions for the church and not the causes for division. Is Jesus having more or us rather than us wanting to have more of Jesus? How full of its power to transform, is the cross of Jesus for you as individual and community? Remember in whose name you’ve been baptised! 

The book of Numbers records the sorry history of God’s people looking to themselves rather than trust that God would bless them though all the challenges of their walk through the wilderness. But God remained faithful. Can we see that God is trustworthy and utterly faithful, give our all to know him and live out a life of blessing for others?

When travelling through the desert to the Promised Land, the people of God murmured and grumbled about their hardships, the food they were given, the leaders they had and the places that they were allocated in their society. This unhappiness was in reality complaining about God Himself, questioning His wisdom and love for them. The tendency to complain is still a temptation for Christians of today and will be countered by the grace of God in Christ as we remember what He has done for us and as we develop attitudes of overflowing thankfulness and contentment in God and in His ways.

Live as those who are called to be conformed to the image of Christ. Let love be genuine. Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

 There are different ways that you can get the title “lord” in this country, this is not what Paul means when he writes to the Roman believers about “Our Lord Jesus Christ”.  it's not just a matter of respect of reverence…the title signifies Jesus’ absolute authority and power is the basis on which people may know him.  It has do with resurrection and his return. Is Jesus Lord of your achievements, possessions, worship, service and living?

Although the book of Leviticus is difficult to read and hard going, the sacrificial system points us to the ultimate sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. Some of principles drawn from the five sacrificial offerings of Leviticus 1-7 prompt to consider how serious we must take the indwelling and worship of our creator, loving and holy God. Read Leviticus. Grow in your understanding of how holy God is. Live a life that takes sin seriously and is marked by worship that is costly, giving the very best, full of thanksgiving, where everything we are and have belongs to God and with commitment to justice and righteousness.
