A tired but very happy Kate McLoughlin has just got to the end of her 3rd Paralympic Games as Chef de Mission. She chatted to Ned Hall about some of highlights from Paris, including the return of families to support the athletes and the global increase in investment into Paralympic Sport. She also admitted that increasing the diversity of the support team so that it better reflects the athletes is a major aim for her.

As the Paris Paralympic games wrap up, Rio Triathlon Gold medal winner Katie Kelly says that one of the highlights has come away from the competition. On top of some amazing performances the way many athletes have been able to give voice to their experiences away from the Paralympics has been a real plus. However she acknowledges plenty needs to be done to keep advancing the Paralympic cause including using the increased funding to facilitate improved training.

Madison de Rozario was denied a repeat of her marathon winning performance in Tokyo by the exceptional Catherine de Brunner. But Paralympic Athletics legend Evan O'Hanlon thinks there's no shame in taking silver behind such an in form athlete. He also reckons that it shows the growing strength in depth in some of the Paralympic categories that mean you have to be at your very best to win.

Madison de Rozario added a silver medal in the Marathon to her impressive Paralympic resume with a strong performance in Paris. The Australian flag bearer couldn't catch the in-form Catherine de Brunner - the Swiss athlete who won Gold in 5 different events in Paris. But de Rozario was delighted to finish 2nd and to continue to follow the path forged by her coach and mentor Louise Sauvage.

It has been a huge penultimate day of competition at the Paris 2024 with Australia 2 more Gold Medals, 2 Silver and Ned Hall wraps up the action and hears from Col Pearse, Curtis McGrath, James Turner, Rheed McCracken and Evan O'Hanlon.

Col Pearse has put everything into making it to these Paralympic Games but had to wait until the final night in the pool to claim a medal. He had finished in 4th place in the 100 metre Butterfly - the event he picked up a silver medal in at the Tokyo games. But he performed superbly to win silver in the 200m Individual Medley after two and a half weeks of "sleeping on cardboard beds and eating the same food every day". He told Ned Hall that seeing the 2nd place next to his name made all the sacrifices and hard work of the last 7 years worthwhile.

James Turner has written himself firmly into the record books after adding the 100m title to the 400 metre crown he won in Paris. His former training partner Evan O'Hanlon couldn't have been more impressed with the run which saw Turner come home strongly in the final 30 metres to win his 4th Gold medal. O'Hanlon told Ned Hall that the ability to win Gold across such a wide range of events is proof of his - and Para Sports athletes - ability to adapt and overcome. He was also impressed with Turner's ability to have a competitive streak and still be a really nice guy.

Curtis McGrath has won his 4th Paralympic Gold medal by completing a third straight win in the K200m Kayak in Paris. He dominated the field in the KL2 but he's expecting a tougher challenge as he tries to double up in the Va'a VL3 class on the final day of competition of the Games. He told Ned Hall how great it was to have some of his former military colleagues cheering him on from the stands and how happy he is to see his Para Canoe colleagues Susan Seipel and Dylan Littlehales also collect medals

The Cycling program at the Paralympics has finished with Australia's Alistair Donohoe finishing with a silver in the Road Race and a Bronze from the Team Sprint at the Track. It means he's now got 6 Paralympic medals from the last 3 Games. He told Ned Hall about the decision to drop his favoured event at the Velodrome to team up with Korey Boddington and Gordon Allan in the team sprint and how he's looking forward to some down time now that Paris is over.

Rheed McCracken was a bit disappointed to miss out on a medal in the 100m in Paris but was delighted to pick up a Bronze in the 800m T54 class. He arrived at the Stade de France wearing his mechanics sandals in a far more relaxed mood. He told Ned Hall how he's grateful for all his support team including coach Louise Sauvage and how he's already planning his assault on Los Angeles. 

James Turner has achieved an incredible feat by winning the 100m and 400m in the same Paralympic Games. The Canberra runner now has 4 Gold medals from 3 games spanning the 100-800 metres. He told Ned Hall about the incredible effort it took to get him to the start line after struggling with Glandular Fever and how he's been very nervous all games. But the calming words of his coach Iryna Dvoskina got him in the right frame of mind to perform at his best. He also dropped a massive hint that he's not done yet.

Why are some athletes not able to compete in their preferred events at the Paris Games? And why have some categories disappeared from the schedule this time around. This is a great explainer from Katie Kelly on the impact that the classifications have on athletes being able to compete in different events at the Games. Why some athletes miss out on their preferred events and why the International Paralympic Committee needs to make sure they make the games as inclusive as possible through their categorisation.

Events at La Defense were the standout for Australia on Day 9 of the Paris Paralympic Games. There were Gold Medals won by Ben Hance and Callum Simpson as well as a silver and 4 bronze medals. Ned Hall wraps up all the action with help from one of the Bronze medal winners Lewis Bishop, Carol Cooke, Katie Kelly and Evan O'Hanlon.

On an incredible night in the Pool for the Australians , the Bronze medal won by Lewis Bishop still managed to stand out. The 19 year old is only competing in this event so had been at La Defense every night waiting for his moment. He came from 8th at the turn to finish 3rd behind teammate Timothy Hodge. He told Ned Hall how shocked he was to be there, how his goal was just to make the games and how he couldn't help but get emotional when he saw his Mum and Dad watching on.

There are a few new faces on the Australian Paralympic Athletics team in Paris with the likes of 20 year old Mali Lovell winning bronze in the 200 metres backed up by big performances from 1500m runner Annabelle Coleman and  sprinter Telaya Blacksmith. 5 time Paralympic Gold medallist Evan O'Hanlon is encouraged by the new blood but thinks that the qualification and quota system that the team has to abide by doesn't ensure the best Athletes get to the games.

No medals for Australia in the Road Race cycling on Day 9 of the Paralympics but some big rides from the Australians. Alistair Donohoe finished 6th in the Men's C4-5 race and Alana Forster was 7th in the Women's race. 3 time Paralympic Gold Medal winning Cyclist Carol Cooke says its tough for athletes who have competed in the Track Cycling to back up on the Road. She also explained the quota system and why some of the cyclists compete in events that aren't their strong suits.

Lauren Parker the first Australian in 48 years to win 2 Paralympic Gold medals in 2 different disciplines at the same event. And underpinning her success according to Rio Paralympic Triathlon Gold Medal winner is a phenomenal work rate. Kelly as also talked about the mood in the Australian camp with some competitors having finished their programs and some yet to compete.  She also mentioned the need to increase the number of coaches who have experience competing in the Paralympics.

Tim Hodge set his sights on winning the 200m Individual medley at the Paris games and he didn't disappoint winning Gold in a Paralympic record time. It's his 2nd Gold medal of the games having been part of the 34 point 4x100 medley relay team but he's had two 4th placed finishes and a 5th in his other individual events.  The 23 year old is at his third Paralympic Games but he's striving to achieve more.

Lauren Parker has won 2 Gold medals and a Silver in three days of competition at the Paris Paralympics. After winning a gruelling Triathlon and taking silver by just 9 seconds in the Time Trial she demolished the field in the Road Race to win by more than 4 minutes. She told Ned Hall that after missing out on Triathlon Gold in agonising circumstances in Tokyo she went away and worked harder to make this happen. And she credits Kurt Fearnley with persuading her to add the hand bike to her roster of events.

Archer Taymon Kenton-Smith turned a few heads in Paris with his distinction look and a crowd rousing antics in the Individual Recurve. He told Ned Hall he went into the competition with his only aim to start his first match well and to leave happy - both of which he achieved. He talked about the difference in playing at the Paris Paralympics and why it was an honour to take on the players that he faced.

She also spoke about the unique challenges that face some of the athletes like Lauren Parker who deal with pain on a daily basis.

Meg Lemon surprised herself to pick up the silver medal in the Road Race Time Trial. She told Ned Hall she was just happy to be on the team so to be going home is an unexpected bonus. She also explained how she copes with some of the unseen issues that cause her difficulties on the bike and how spending time with other Para-Athletes is a learning experience.

There have been some close calls for Australia on Day 5 at the Paralympics with Jarryd Clifford, Tim Hodge, Col Pearse and Jasmine Greenwood all finishing in 4th place. So how hard is it for athletes who have put their heart and soul into achieving their dream to come so close but just miss out. Katie Kelly won Gold in the Triathlon in Rio in 2016 but told Ned Hall that she found it tough when she finished in 6th place in Tokyo in 2021.

James Turner has cemented his place in Paralympic history winning a Gold Medal at a 3rd consecutive games. He also set a new World Record. His former training partner Evan O'Hanlon is worried he'll be overtaking him in the sprinting legend stakes! O'Hanlon also praised their coach Iryna Dvoskina and how she's got the best out of Turner. He also talked about the disappointment for Jaryd Clifford who missed out on the Bronze medal in the 1500m today.

Wheelchair Rugby superstar Ryley Batt still isn't clear if he's going to play on but he does know that in the immediate future he'll be under the surgeon's knife. After scoring 158 tries in 5 matches Batt will return home with a Bronze medal to add to the 2 Gold medals and 1 Silver already in his possession but with a back held together with tape. He told Ned Hall that preparing for the Paris games has taken a toll mentally as well as physically. But he's not sure that he can leave behind the Steelers or the Paralympic Games after 21 years on the team.

Jaryd Clifford has finished his program in the Paris Paralympics without a medal but was millimetres away from going home with 2 bronze medals. He was disqualified in the 5000m earlier this week and has just missed a spot on the podium in the 1500m by a hundredth of a second. He spoke to Ned Hall about how he struggled after the Tokyo games, how he had to fall back in love with running and why he's not done yet. He also talked passionately about the Paralympic movement and how the Games give the world a window into the support people with a disability should receive in every walk of life.

It was Australia's biggest ever Triathlon team at the Paralympics for Australia and Lauren Parker proved the headline act winning Gold in the PTWC class. But the journey to the finish line has been a long one for Parker who was an aspiring Triathlete before a severe training accident  put her on a different track. Her room mate in Tokyo was Rio Triathlon Gold Medallist Katie Kelly and she knew the Gold medal had been a long time coming.

Two more Gold medals for Australia on Day 5 of competition with Lauren parker winning the Triathlon and the 4 x 100 medley relay team breaking a Paralympic record to take gold. Dayne Crees surprised herself by getting on to the podium in the Women's javelin. After a tough year where she suffered rotator cuff damage and couldn't throw properly until the last couple of months ago she said she would have been happy with a finish in the top 8. However she threw a huge personal best with her first throw and stay in 3rd place. She told Ned Hall how she got emotional when she found her parents in the stadium and had to put her sunglasses on so nobody could see her cry!

The Track Cycling Program at the 2024 Paris Paralympics have come to a close and Australia has finished with a Bronze medal in the Men's C1-5 750m Team Sprint.  Triple Gold Medal winning Paralympic Cyclist Carol Cooke joins Ned Hall to look at the 3 Gold Medals, 1 Silver and the Bronze won at the St Quentin en Yvelines velodrome. Australia has won its' first ever Gold Medal in Para Rowing thanks to Mixed Double Sculls pair Jed Altschwager and Nikki Ayers. The pair teamed up with a dream of winning Gold at these games and they held off a stiff challenge from the British boat to clinch the win. Ayers told Ned Hall about her journey from being an elite Rugby 7s player to becoming a Paralympic Champion.

Australia has won a bronze medal on the track at the 2024 Paralympic Games thanks to Mali Lovell in the T36 200m.5 time Paralympic Sprinting Gold medallist Evan O'Hanlon was very impressed with the games debutant and how she handled herself in the Stade de France.We also ran through a few of the other highlights from the Paris morning session.

Michael Roeger put in a sensational run to claim the Silver medal in the Men's 1500m T46 at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. He took the race on and led for most of the race before being chased down in the home straight. He told Ned Hall that he's shocked to find himself winning a medal in the same event he took Bronze in at the 2016 games in Rio.

He also praised the way Harry Grant has made an inclusive atmosphere at the club which has really helped players when they come into the senior team and broke some injury news on his team-mate Grant Anderson.

South Sydney has won 6 of the last 7 in the NRL to be a live chance of making the finals. The run has coincided with the improved form of Keoan Koloamatangi who has been a revelation since shifting to lock forward. He told Andrew Moore and the team how interim coach Ben Hornby has given him more self belief as a ball player and how the energy around the club is contagious.

New South Wales coach Michael Maguire has come up for air after an exhausting State of Origin campaign which culminated in the Blues clinching the series with a brutal win in Game 3. It was a more verbally combative Madge that appeared in Origin than the version previously seen in the NRL but he told Andrew Moore and the team that "they poked the beast". Gold Coast back rower turned centre Beau Fermor played another big role in his team's gritty win over Cronulla. His form has so impressed Des Hasler that his coach is putting him forward as a potential Queensland selection for the final State of Origin match. Fermor told Andrew Moore and that team that he hopes he's in the conversation and that he feels he's done everything he can to earn a place in Billy Slater's squad. Fermor also said there has been a mentality shift at the Titans where now they seem to be able to defend their way to a win which wasn't a strength of the club in the past.

The Bulldogs are firmly ensconced in the NRL top 8 after digging deep to claim a golden point win in Round 17 over Cronulla. Coach Cameron Ciraldo told Andrew Moore and the team that the performance epitomised the Bulldogs spirit of the club. He also talked about how they focused on character references for the players they brought in to make sure they were real team players. He also praised the Bulldogs club for letting the players go into camp before every game they play which has helped bring the team closer together. 

An understandably delighted New South Wales coach Michael Maguire joined Andrew Moore and the team to express his delight at the Blues performance in Game 2 of State of Origin. Despite a lengthy coaching career in club and international rugby league, even Madge couldn't remember watching a half a good as the one New South Wales produced at the MCG. He praised experienced inclusions like Cam Murray, Latrell Mitchell and Mitch Moses and how the whole group came together in their Blue Mountains camp. Maguire also said that dealing with a media "on steroids" in Origin has been interesting but says despite seemingly some cross words with his opposite number he and Billy Slater are fine.

The 1st ever Women's State of Origin 3 match series comes down to the decider at Townsville Stadium on Thursday night. The reason we'll have a game 3 is because of Lauren Brown who kicked the winning field goal on a soaking wet night in Newcastle. She joined Andrew Moore and the team to discuss her own doubts as to how she managed to slot the field goal, the joy of being able to play a decider and hoping that Queensland finish not just with the series win but also a new record attendance.

With Origin heading to Melbourne for Game 2 of this year's series, Andrew Moore caught up with a New South Wales player steeped in Origin history who played in the very first game at the G - Paul McGregor. The man known as Mary played 14 times for the Blues and was involved in the coaching set up until last year. He was one of the try scorers in that inaugural trip for Origin to Melbourne and he credits Phil Gould's meticulous preparation for how the Blues were ready for the difficulty of playing at the huge stadium.

The State of Origin weekend's give us the chance to look back at another moment from the history of the New South Wales and Queensland clashes. Gene Miles joined Andrew Moore to venture back to the SCG and game 2 of the 1984 series - 40 years ago! One of the great Queenslanders remembers the rain soaked night in front of 30,000 fans but also walks through the journey from the early days of Origin to his time running the Former Origin Greats and being a selector.

Connor Watson is one of the ABC NRL Team's favourites and everyone was delighted to see him picked in the New South Wales team for Game 2 of State of Origin. He told Andrew Moore and the team the ins and out of getting the call including his surprise that the actually had the Blues coach's number saved on his phone. Watson also explained his pride at pulling on the blue jersey and how he still can't believe the journey that has led him to this moment.

Queensland are all set to show that they can win in State of Origin 2 even if New South Wales have the full compliment of players on the field for the whole match. Winger Xavier Coates was among the try scorers in the 38-10 win in Sydney but he thinks there is more to come from the Maroons. He told Andrew Moore and the team that Billy Slater's coaching has helped the side and his focus is never on the flashy business but getting the little things right to help the overall performance.

The Beanie for Brain Cancer Round has become one of the features of the NRL calendar. It sees the whole rugby league community coming together to support the great cause started by the former Newcastle Knight Mark Hughes. The man himself joined Andrew Moore and the team at the end of what is always an emotionally and physically taxing weekend for him a he continues to promote the great work done by his foundation. He reckons there's no other charity in the World that is afforded the luxury of the support of an entire sport - something he refers to as the NRL Army. Hughes explained that they are on track for a record fund-raising year having already raised $30 million over the past 10 years.

Despite Richmond's loss, Saturday was all about Dustin Martin. Matt Clinch, Cameron Ling and Jake Niall ponder whether he'll go on while Hawthorn defender Karl Amon sets high aims for his side's season.

North Queensland seem to thrive in the colder conditions of the Nation's capital and came away from Canberra with a big 34-16 win in round 15. Valentine Holmes landed a 14 point haul and he told Andrew Moore and the team that the Cowboys revelled in swapping the tropical North and were delighted to hold on to the ball for once. New South Wales will go in to Game 2 of the Women's State of Origin knowing a win in front of a sold out crowd in Newcastle will secure a historic series win. Flying winger Jaime Chapman played a big part in setting up that victory in Game 1 in Brisbane with a memorable try as the Blues flew out of the blocks. She told Andrew Moore and the team that it's a relief having a 3 game series with some of the pressure to avoid a drawn series. She also said she's looking forward to having the hostile Newy crowd on her side for once!

The Queensland lead in to State of Origin 1 has been very smooth compared to New South Wales. The withdrawal of Dylan Edwards has seen spurned full back and captain James Tedesco recalled. Maroons five-eighth Tom Dearden even though it's a forced change for the Blues they are bringing in another dangerous player. He also told Andrew Moore and the team that he's enjoyed having a full camp after a fairly rushed debut 2 years ago. 

Roosters utility and all round good bloke Connor Watson got to spend some unexpected time with Andrew Moore and the ABC Sport NRL Commentary team after picking up a throat injury. However, he might have been missing the Roosters round 13 game with the Cowboys for a different reason had he not been injured. There were plenty of suggestions that he would have been named in the New South Wales squad for Origin 1. But he explained that while he's disappointed it's fed his desire to make sure he can fulfil his dream of playing for the Blues.

Should a player be ineligible for the rising star if they are suspended? Ben Cameron, Cameron Ling and Jake Niall toss around whether Harley Reid or Sam Darcy deserve to miss out on winning the award.

Queensland will travel to Newcastle for Game 2 of the Women's State of Origin expecting plenty of hostility from the sold out crowd. But Second Rower Romy Teitzel told Andrew Moore that she's hoping her Maroons team mate and Knights full back Tamika Upton will win a few local fans over playing at her club ground.  She's expecting an improved performance from Queensland and explained that with the series being played outside of the NRLW season she hadn't had chance to play alongside the likes of Ali Brigginshaw for the past 6 months.

North Queensland hooker Reece Robson got the nod to retain his New South Wales Origin spot ahead of other well fancied rakes. He told Andrew Moore and the team that he feels like he's got more confidence coming in for his second year knowing what to expect. He'll see some not so friendly faces when he takes on the Queenslanders with 5 of his Cowboys team mates lining up against him but he's happy to put his friendships to one side while he's out on the field.

Many people expected the Cronulla v Penrith match to be one of the best of round 12 in the NRL but as it was the Panthers blew the Sharks away 42-0. Penrith second rower Scott Sorensen has had an injury hampered start to the season was delighted with the way his whole team performed from start to finish against Cronulla. He told Andrew Moore and team that they sensed a big performance was coming after the way the team trained in the wake of their Magic Round loss to the Warriors. Sorensen explained how coach Ivan Cleary had wanted to see more intensity from the team which he felt had been lacking from the previous weeks.

Geelong's fourth consecutive loss, Leek Aleer's heroics and umpiring decisions headline the agenda for Matt Clinch, Cameron Ling and Jake Niall.

South Sydney fans might be looking forward to the second coming of Wayne Bennett to the club but CEO Blake Solly reckons there won't be sweeping changes. Solly told Andrew Moore and the team that he was always confident Bennett would be returning despite some interest from the Eels. And he's confident that a shift in attitude should see the Rabbitohs turn around without much change to the roster or the backroom staff.

Brisbane notched up another gritty win on the first night of Magic Round edging out Manly thanks to a Jock Madden field goal. Madden is winning plenty of new fans and coach Kevvie Walters told Andrew Moore and the team he's expecting to see more from him as he deputises for the injured Adam Reynolds. Broncos and New South Wales fans would have had their hearts in their mouths when gun prop Payne Haas limped off with what looked like a serious injury. As it was it was a short term knock and he got back on the field before the end of the match. Haas has also been dealing with the news that his father is in serious trouble having been arrested in the Philippines. Walters says the club have got his back and that they love him at the Broncos and they'll support him any way they can.

Flanagan said they are still in the early days of the transition and many of the key combinations are still developing. They have landed gun Penrith winger Sunia Turuva but perhaps even more importantly experienced NRL administrator Shane Richardson signed a 4 year deal. The Tigers have endured plenty of turmoil on and off the pitch in recent seasons but are looking for more stability. He told Andrew Moore and the team he thinks they've turned the corner and that he's confident more players want to be at the club with a brighter future ahead (including Stefano Utoikamanu!)

Popular Cronulla forward Dale Finucane had to pull the pin on his NRL career with immediate effect on medical advice. The 32 year old won 2 competitions in his time with the Melbourne Storm and represented New South Wales in State of Origin 5 times. He told Andrew Moore and the team how it was a tough decision to step away from the game with his Sharks top of the NRL ladder. He also said that despite debate around kick off returns leading to concussions he's not keen to see that part of the game changed.

The Gold Coast Titans haven't had much to smile about this season but training will be much happier after notching up a first win of the season on ANZAC Day. The win over the Warriors looked like it might have been following a familiar pattern as the New Zealanders started to eat into the Titans' lead. Back rower Beau Fermor told Andrew Moore and the team how pleasing it was to see the team stand firm and pick up a first win of the 2024 season.  

The sad news of the passing of Terry Hill shocked many in the world of Rugby League but none more so than his former team-mate David Gillespie.  The man known as Cement was with the former NSW and Australia representative just a week before his death in the Philippines. Gillespie told Andrew Moore and the team about his time spent with Hill from the early days of their careers to the highest levels of the game. He was in no doubt that Hill would have thrived in the modern game - even if some of his off field antics ma have been curtailed.  

One of ABC Sport's favourite's Connor Watson is back in the thick of things at the Roosters after his lengthy injury lay-off. As part of ABC Sport's look back at the last full Kangaroos tour in 1994 Andrew Moore caught up with one of the great front rowers - Ian Roberts. They talk about his current work with the Qtopia Museum, dealing with his sexuality as a young gay player in the 1990s and the effect that English footballer Justin Fashanu had on him. They did get to the Kangaroos tour too and spoke about some of the talent in that squad, the battle that the British team gave them and how he could have been lining up against Australia!

Parramatta grabbed a much needed win over North Queensland after back-to-back losses. Without injured playmaker Mitch Moses many people feared for the Eels season but big forward Junior Paulo says its been important for the senior players to keep the squad upbeat. He told Andrew Moore and team that that they just needed to find a way to win against the Cowboys.

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is one of the more spectacular wingers in the NRL and he added a couple more tries to his 2024 tally in the Warriors 22-22 draw with Manly. But he told Andrew Moore and the team that he's getting a bit old (at 28!) to be practicing acrobatic leaps into the corner and just hopes he can pull it off on game day. He also denied he tries for intercepts despite scoring from one against Manly. He also talked about the unbelievable job that coach Andrew Webster has done at the club and how he seems to be getting the best out of all the players. He reminisced about the time he ran over the top of Luke Lewis.

Cronulla sit top of the NRL ladder after the round 6 win of South Sydney and front rower Toby Rudolf was delighted to see his side notch up another win. He dispensed some of his wisdom to Andrew Moore and the team and explained why he doesn't answer Luke Lewis' calls. He also sang the praise of double try scorer Ronaldo Mulitalo and the talked up the leadership skills of Cam McInnes - despite the fact that the captain has "a head like a beat up sandwich".

Newcastle hooker Jayden Brailey is enjoying his NRL football more than ever after recovering from a ruptured ACL. It was the second time he'd sustained the injury on the same knee and he was out for almost a full year. He told Andrew Moore and team how hard the rehabilitation process was and how he had to work as hard on the mental side of things as the physical. He credits his fiance, his sports psychologist and his coach at the Knights Adam O'Brien with helping him through a challenging process.

While State of Origin  is still a couple of months away for New South Wales coach Michael Maguire he's already deep into his preparations. The new Blues coach talked to Andrew Moore and the team about a tumultuous 18 months or so in his coaching journey, how he's been prepping himself for his first team and why he's keen to develop a wider squad. He also talked about trying to bottle what Luke Lewis showed to him around the emotion of representing his state.

There's always something to discuss with refereeing and controversial incidents in the NRL and there were plenty in the Bulldogs win over the Roosters alone. St George Illawarra's up and down season continued with a big win over Manly in round 4. The Dragons are definitely a work in progress under new coach Shane Flanagan and his son and the club's five-eighth Kyle Flanagan would have been delighted with the way the match went. Kyle spoke to Andrew Moore and the team about how much it meant to beat a team like Manly and what it's like playing for his Dad.

As part of his look back at the last full Kangaroos tour of the UK and France in 1994 Andrew Moore has been catching up with the key figures involved. He spoke with the Great Great Britain star Martin Offiah about his remarkable career - how he was plucked from a Rugby 7s match by Widnes, had never seen Rugby League before his debut and yet went on to score over 500 tries and end up with a statue outside Wembley Stadium. He talks over his time in Australia with the Roosters and Dragons, why he loved being called a freak by Darrell Eastlake and about his experiences taking on the Kangaroos.

Many people had written the Broncos off going into their round 4 NRL Queensland Derby against the Cowboys. Injuries to Superstars Reece Walsh, Payne Haas and Brendan Piakura meant that a previously unbeaten North Queensland started as favourites. But coach Kevvie Walters told Andrew Moore and the team that they saw how Penrith shrugged of key injuries and got on with the job. He also he'd be willing to have a look at Luke Lewis' CV - if Lewey could be bothered to write one!

North Queensland notched another big scoring win in round 3 of the NRL beating the Dragons 46-24 at Kogarah Oval. Co-Captain Tom Dearden was amongst the try scorers and was pleased to see his side come through after a another slow start. He also told Andrew Moore and team that the Queensland Derby against the Broncos next Friday will be their biggest challenge of the season despite the injuries that have hit the Brisbane team

Former ABC Sport team member and current Wests Tigers Assistant Chris Heighington was delighted to see his current employers notch up a big win over Cronulla in Round 3. Winning hasn't been a regular thing for the Tigers in the past few years and the players needed printouts of the new club song to sing after the match! Heighn-Dog helped write that song and he was also responsible for trying to keep the players from losing their heads when some decisions went against them. He told Andrew Moore and the team that as soon as they saw young five eighth Lachie Galvin they knew they could build the team around him.

The Bulldogs produced a big win on multi-cultural round back at their spiritual home the Belmore Sports Ground. After starting 2024 with losses against the Eels and Sharks it was a relief to coach Cameron Ciraldo to see his players not only win but also shut the Gold Coast Titans out. He told Andrew Moore and the team that they have focused on their defence for the past 12 months. He also said the camaraderie between the group was starting to bear fruit in their performances.

After kicking off the NRL season in the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas, it was back to the less salubrious surrounds of Brookvale Oval for Manly. CEO Tony Mestrov is only too aware that for all the character the ground has it falls well short of what is required for an elite sporting venue. He squeezed into the commentary box with Andrew Moore and the team to talk about trying to develop the ground without government help. He also confirmed that the San Francisco 49ers have a real interest in investing in the club and that Manly would love to return to Vegas in 2025.

Canberra followed up a surprise round 1 win in Newcastle with a comfortable win over Wests Tigers in round 2. Some pundits thought they might struggle in 2024 with the loss of Jack Wighton but the way they have played so far suggests they have improved on 2023. Half back Jamal Fogarty has been impressive and he told Andrew Moore and the team that the biggest change has been in their approach to defence.

Penrith hooker Mitch Kenny is modest to a fault. Helping the team the best he could against the Eels in the Panthers round 2 win saw him make a massive 58 tackles! The defending Premiers are aiming for a 4th straight title but Kenny says the players are trying not to think that far ahead. And he also told Andrew Moore and the team that the only downside from Penrith's performance were the try from Moses Leota and Isaah Yeo's cross kick try assist which the hooker says the rest of the players won't hear the end of!

St George Illawarra have some difficult seasons but fans would have been encouraged by the round 1 win over the Gold Coast. The Dragons 28-4 win saw great performances from Tyrell Sloan and Zac Lomax but skipper Ben Hunt took the 3 points in the ABC player of the year award. He told Andrew Moore and the team about his developing relationship with halves partner Kyle Flanagan, how impressed he was with the defensive resolve and took some advice from Luke Lewis about how to wind up coach Shane Flanagan. Parramatta lost 3 straight games at the start of the 2023 NRL season so starting 2024 with a win must be a relief. The Eels will also be very happy with the performance of hooker Joey Lussick in the 26-8 win over the Bulldogs. He told Andrew Moore and that the team were determined not to leave themselves at the wrong end of the ladder after the opening 5 rounds. He also holds his hands up as the most annoying of the Lussick brothers!

A week on from the NRL's Las Vegas season opener the Chair of the Australian Rugby League Commission Peter V'landys has had time to reflect on the success of the trip. He told Andrew Moore and the team they couldn't be happier with how year 1 worked. But he's keen to point out this is just the start of their American experience. He's hoping to expand the operation in the coming years to boost the broadcast deal, do a better deal with the wagering operators and even try and get more direct flights to Vegas from Australia. But he says one of the toughest calls they will have to make is which clubs get to make the trip next year!
