Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: Discipline 101 - Navigating Those Toddler Tantrums

In this episode of Spill the Baby Tea, I’m diving into one of the most challenging yet essential aspects of parenting—discipline. As my own 2 (almost 3) year-old toddler reaches that age where boundaries and lessons are really starting to push my buttons! I’ve been exploring the best ways to approach discipline that feel supportive, nurturing, and effective. When do we start disciplining our little ones, and how do we do it in a way that feels right for our families? From positive discipline to time-ins, natural consequences, and setting clear but compassionate boundaries, I did the research so you don't have to. We’ll talk about how to stay calm (even when it’s really hard!) and teach our kids important lessons in a loving, gentle way. If you’re navigating this phase or just getting ready for it, I hope this episode offers some helpful tips and encouragement AsianBossGirl’s latest Instagram post for comments/interactions, linked here. #SpillTheBabyTea Become an ABG Bestie to get new audio episodes ad-free, monthly “Dear ABG” AMA sessions, discounts on merch, and shout-outs in our episodes. https://abg.supercast.com/  __________________________________________ Host: Helen Wu Editor: Victoria Cheng __________________________________________ P A R T N E R S • Wild: Use code “ABG20” for 20% off your first order at WeAreWild.com/US  • Quince: Get free shipping and 365-day returns at Quince.com/abg • BetterHelp: Get 10% off your first month with code “ABG” at betterhelp.com/ABG __________________________________________ C O N N E C T W I T H U S • Subscribe and Follow us @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts/Spotify/Amazon Music/YouTube/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook • Listener Survey: Let us know your thoughts on the podcast here • Email: [email protected] __________________________________________ S U P P O R T U S • Merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com • Donate: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support • More about us at asianbossgirl.com Learn more about your ad choices. Living Well with Janet: 9 Things I've Learned at 39

Birthdays are an interesting time to reflect and evaluate, and honestly, it’s been one of the harder years of my life. It was the perfect storm - a cataclysm of many things being upheaved, in transition, unsettled, or in flux. Moreover, I turned 39 this year. It’s the year before I enter a new decade - pretty much midlife - and when we are at this stage of life, there are a lot of life milestones that we are confronted with. In some ways, my life does not look how I thought it would at 39. And having to face that reality while still being kind to myself and willing the confidence and fervor that’s required to make change and keep going has been pretty exhausting. But I want to take this episode as an opportunity to share some of the things I’ve learned over the course of my 39 years, and especially this past year. If you are like me, in your late 30s and on the brink of entering your 40s, maybe some of this will resonate. Or, if you’re younger - in your early 30s or 20s - perhaps some of these learnings can be of benefit or inspiration for you. No Dumb Questions with Mel: Love Beyond Words - A Conversation with Author & Designer Jocelyn Chung

In this heartwarming episode of No Dumb Questions, I’m thrilled to welcome Jocelyn Chung, a graphic designer, creator, and newly-published children's book author, to the podcast! We instantly connected during my last visit to Taiwan, and today we’re diving into her debut book, “When Love is More Than Words”, a story that beautifully captures how love transcends language, especially within Asian families—a theme that deeply resonates with me, having grown up with my grandparents and extended family. Jocelyn shares the inspiration behind her book, how her upbringing in a Taiwanese-American household influenced her storytelling, and the creative journey from designer to author. We also explore the challenges she faced as a first-time author and the cultural values she hopes to pass on through her work. Whether you love children's books or simply believe in the power of love beyond words, this episode is a must-listen! Episode 292: The 4 Levels of a Relationship & How to Jump from Attraction to Commitment

Matthew Hussey revealed “the best relationship advice that no one ever told you” on The Mel Robbins Podcast recently in the form of the “4 Levels” framework. It sounds relatively straightforward: 1) Admiration, 2) Mutual Attraction, 3) Commitment, and 4) Compatibility. But personal experience proves that getting from one level to the next requires risk-taking and emotional vulnerability. So how do you structure these hard conversations with a partner to get to that next level?  Become an ABG Bestie to get new audio episodes ad-free, monthly “Dear ABG” AMA sessions, discounts on merch, and shout-outs in our episodes. https://abg.supercast.com/  __________________________________________ Hosts: Melody Cheng, Janet Wang, Helen Wu Contributing Editor: Haemee Kang __________________________________________ P A R T N E R S • OneSkin: Free travel bag ($39 value!) with your first order over $79 with code “ABG” at OneSkin.co • Orgain: Receive 20% off your order with code “ABG” at Orgain.com/ABG  • Money Crimes: Catch new episodes every Thursday - just search for “Money Crimes” • Pampers: Check out Pampers Cruisers 360 today! • BetterHelp: Get 10% off your first month with code “ABG” at betterhelp.com/ABG __________________________________________ C O N N E C T W I T H U S • Subscribe and Follow us @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts/Spotify/Amazon Music/YouTube/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook • Join our Discord channel: https://discord.com/invite/4HxZgwFbhg  • Email: [email protected] __________________________________________ S U P P O R T U S • Merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com • Donate: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support • More about us at asianbossgirl.com Learn more about your ad choices. Spill the Baby Tea: My Emotional Rollercoaster with Acupuncture for Fertility - What I Wish I Knew

In this episode of Spill the Baby Tea, I’m getting deeply personal as I share my experience with acupuncture on our journey to conceive again after the heart-wrenching loss of our first pregnancy. After our miscarriage, I found myself searching for anything that could help us heal and increase our chances of bringing a little one into our lives. Acupuncture seemed like a gentle, holistic approach, but what I wasn’t prepared for was the emotional toll—on top of the physical discomfort and financial strain. I’ll take you through what it’s like—the sadness, the frustrations, the small moments of hope, the crying in the car... the weight of it all. If you’ve ever been curious about acupuncture for fertility or are navigating your own fertility journey, this episode is for you <3 AsianBossGirl’s latest Instagram post for comments/interactions, linked here.  #SpillTheBabyTea Become an ABG Bestie to get new audio episodes ad-free, monthly “Dear ABG” AMA sessions, discounts on merch, and shout-outs in our episodes. https://abg.supercast.com/  __________________________________________ Host: Helen Wu Editor: Victoria Cheng __________________________________________ P A R T N E R S • BetterHelp: Get 10% off your first month with code “ABG” at betterhelp.com/ABG __________________________________________ C O N N E C T W I T H U S • Subscribe and Follow us @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts/Spotify/Amazon Music/YouTube/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook • Listener Survey: Let us know your thoughts on the podcast here • Email: [email protected] __________________________________________ S U P P O R T U S • Merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com • Donate: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support • More about us at asianbossgirl.com Learn more about your ad choices. No Dumb Questions with Mel: How Do You Organize the Ultimate Friends' Trip?✈️ ft. Tiff Duong

Planning a big trip with friends can be both exciting and a little stressful. Today’s episode was inspired by one of my team members after I shared that I’m heading to Vietnam soon with my college friends! She asked me how I usually plan these types of trips, and it got me thinking—coordinating travel preferences, schedules, and personalities can be a lot to manage! With my Vietnam trip just around the corner, I thought it would be perfect to bring on one of my best friends, Tiff, who’s also helping me plan this adventure. Tiff and I go way back—we were roommates at UC San Diego for 3 years and have been close ever since. She knows me better than almost anyone, and we’ve traveled together a few times, but this is our first big international trip! In this episode, we’ll dive into how we’re approaching this trip, from managing everyone’s preferences to keeping things fun and organized. Whether you’re gearing up for your own trip with friends or just love hearing about travel planning, I hope this conversation gives you some helpful tips along the way! Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: Choosing the Right Daycare - Tips for Parents Navigating Early Schooling

Today, we’re uncovering the secrets to finding the perfect daycare that will set your little one on the path to success. We’re talking about the must-ask questions, tips for navigating the application process, and how to spot the red flags before it’s too late. Whether you're just starting the search or drowning in options, we’ve got you covered with everything you need to know to make a confident and informed choice. Get ready to feel empowered and excited about this important milestone in your child’s life!  And as promised, here are questions I asked each of the schools we visited: What is the daily schedule like? How is naptime handled? Where do they sleep? Can my child bring a blanket/lovey? What is the staff-to-child ratio? How long have the teachers been at the school? What are the qualifications of the caregivers? Do they have early childhood education degrees? What is the expectation for potty training? Are they expected to wipe themselves? What are the policies on sick children? What are the safety protocols? (Check that the facility is licensed by the state and that they have clear safety protocols in place. Look for things like secured entrances and childproofing.) How does discipline typically work? What is the standard communication of how your child is doing? Daily and periodic check-ins? How do I FEEL after this visit? (This was super important for me to jot down! These feelings are easy to forget after visiting so many schools.)  AsianBossGirl’s latest Instagram post for comments/interactions, linked here. Living Well with Janet: Midlife Non-Malaise with Mimi of @heymiddleage

Middle age is usually defined as age 40-60. Some say it begins as early as our mid-30s. I am at the beginning of that period - this year I turn 39 and I’m on the precipice of my 4th decade. As I contend with midlife and all it means in relation to my health, my relationships, and my purpose in life - I’ve been referencing how others have navigated this period before me. Mimi is a midlife pro-age motivator who created Hey Middle Age to change how we feel about aging and to counter ageist stereotypes. On her platforms, Mimi explores both the comfortable and uncomfortable aspects of mid-life. Listen in as we chat about lessons she's learned as someone who has navigated mid-life with incredible joy, celebration, and zest! Living Well with Janet: Am I a Highly Sensitive Person?

I’ve been feeling really sensitive lately and got curious about this quality. I went down a rabbit hole of research, and it turns out that there is such a thing as highly sensitive people, or HSPs. In this episode, I talk about examples of sensitivity, explore a framework from psychologist Elaine Aron, and share ways I manage sensitivity. And yes, there is a test you can take to gauge whether you are a highly sensitive person and I share my results in the episode. Whether you’ve recently experienced a significant life event(s) that warrants sensitivity, or you’re just a human trying to life in an increasingly hostile world - the state of political, social, environmental affairs and overstimulation from an exponentially fast-paced lifestyle due to technological advancement is causing overall stress and fatigue for everyone - I hope this episode serves as some form of validation, information, and comfort.  If you’re curious about whether you’re a highly sensitive person, you can take the test here: highly sensitive person test I'll be traveling to Bali for the first time this September - a little Birthday gift to myself :) If you'd like to join, more details and sign up here: Bali 2024 Trip Page. Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: Living with Grief - Coping and Healing after Miscarriage

Whether you’re a parent or someone who has faced the heavy weight of grief, this episode is dedicated to you. From the initial shock and denial to the eventual steps towards acceptance and hope, I share my journey with grief after my miscarriage, delving into what it means to grieve, how to navigate through grief, and the importance of community and support. I also share what I’ve learned about the seven stages of grief after loss. Writing these words have been both a cathartic and challenging process for me. I recount the moments of despair and the gradual rediscovery of hope, the days when it felt impossible to move forward, and the small victories that reminded me of my inner strength. By sharing my story, I hope to create a space where we can openly discuss our grief, honor our losses, and find comfort in knowing that we are not alone. This journey has taught me that while grief may be a solitary experience, healing is often found in the shared connections we make with others. Thank you for allowing me to share this part of my life with you. Living Well with Janet: Food Therapy and Nutrition with Chinese Medicine Food Therapist, Zoey Gong RD

I am a big believer that food is medicine. Growing up in a Chinese household, my mother often told me (and still tells me) to eat certain foods based on Eastern philosophies of health. Once I went to college, I was more exposed to Western ways of thinking about healthy eating, which sometimes conflicted with what I was taught growing up. Through the years, I’ve experimented with vegetarian and vegan diets and now practice a pescetarian/Mediterranean way of eating - which I have found is the most accommodating for Western ideals of health while still being able to share meals with my Chinese family. In this episode, I chat with Zoey, a NY and Shanghai-based registered dietician, nutrition consultant, chef, and Chinese Medicine food therapist, who shares her own experience with American versus Chinese ways of eating and how she's seen it impact her physical and mental health. If you want to learn how to improve your nutrition for healthier living and crave a perspective that incorporates both Eastern and Western ways of thinking, listen in as we chat about fad diets, good food habits, and what she's learned from the older women in her life about maintaining good health and longevity. Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: How to Support (and Not Support) a Friend through Miscarriage

Today's topic is a tough one, so I want to give a heads-up: we’re diving into the difficult subject of miscarriage. Cue: “Bigger Than the Whole Sky” by Taylor Swift. About a month ago, I went through a miscarriage, and as a hopeful mom of two, it was the single most devastating thing I’ve ever experienced in my life. It's a heavy but necessary conversation, and today, I share my own experience with this heart-wrenching loss aiming to break the silence and stigma surrounding miscarriage. It's crucial to shed light on this topic because, sadly, it's more common than many realize. I offer insights on how to support a friend or loved one navigating a miscarriage. Practical help, like offering to watch their kids or bringing over nourishing meals, can make a world of difference. And if words fail you, simply being present and offering a listening ear can mean everything. I also touch on what not to say, like minimizing their grief with phrases like "at least" or comparing their loss to something else. It's all about being mindful of our words and actions during such a sensitive time. Through sharing my journey and the outpouring of love and support I received, I hope to encourage more open conversations about miscarriage and grief. Together, we can create a space where sharing our pain leads to more healing and understanding. And for those who have experienced or are experiencing a miscarriage, I hope this episode helps you to feel seen. Please know that your pain is valid, your loss is real. And most of all, you are not alone, and you are loved. Living Well with Janet: Purposeful Living with Essentialist, Sung Yoo

I really love minimal living. Whether it’s from moving around and traveling a lot in my adult years sampling life in different cities, a desire to leave less of a negative footprint on the planet, a real resonance with the Marie Condo mindset, or a combination of all of the above - the less stuff, the better, and the more minimal and efficient the design, the more I’m drawn to it. That’s why I was so impressed when I saw Sung Yoo’s interview on CNBC about her essentialist approach to life. Sung is a designer and entrepreneur who, in 2022 after living in NY for 18 years, moved to Santa Monica into a 140 sq ft home. Listen in on our conversation about how some major life events (including a breakup and the death of a parent) lead her to her current practices of minimal living and essentialism. Living Well with Janet: Turns Out that Play Is a Mindset, Not an Activity

In a previous episode, I talked about the importance of play and how I have been trying to incorporate more of it into my life. *Spoiler alert* In that episode (In My Play Era, I Took a Heels Class) I talked about how scheduling a playful activity like a dance class actually wasn’t the best way to get into a state of play. Now that we’re a month in, we have newfound strength from enduring the process, and I could not be prouder of our little one (and me!), but damn, was it tough to get here.   As promised, here are the links to the products mentioned in the episode! No Dumb Questions with Mel: What does Turning 33 Mean to Me?

As I approach my 33rd birthday this week, I find myself reflecting on the significance of this milestone. In many ways, turning 33 is the age that, in my adolescent mind, symbolized "being an adult", a time when I thought I would have life all figured out. It is also the age I thought I'd be married. However, the contrast between childhood expectations and the realities of adulthood has become abundantly clear. As I sit down to reflect, I can't escape the feeling that 33 is a new chapter in my life. It's a year brimming with opportunities to confront the fears that both intimidate and exhilarate me. It's a year to break down the barriers of procrastination and finally take action on aspirations. This is the year I want to truly LIVE again! Join me as I reflect on the past year, blow out the candles on the birthday cake, and share what I hope to feel when turning 33. __________________________________________ Host: Melody Cheng Editor: Victoria Cheng __________________________________________ P A R T N E R S • BetterHelp: Get 10% off your first month with code “ABG” at betterhelp.com/ABG __________________________________________ C O N N E C T W I T H U S • Subscribe and Follow us @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts/Spotify/Amazon Music/YouTube/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook • Listener Survey: Let us know your thoughts on the podcast here • Shoutouts: Give a shoutout on the podcast here • Email: [email protected] __________________________________________ S U P P O R T U S • Merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com • Donate: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support • More about us at asianbossgirl.com Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 258: “This Trip Means I Do”?? - Mel & Ray Travel to Asia

Mel recently traveled to Japan & Taiwan to visit family… but she didn’t go alone! She went with her boyfriend Ray, exploring new cities like Tokyo and Kyoto together, and yes, bringing Ray to meet her extended family for the first time. During ABG’s latest Asia trip, Mel was chasing someone we have now lovingly deemed “The Fuckboi” – so going from that to bringing your S.O. to meet Grandpa?! That’s a big deal. In this episode, Mel shares the highs & lows of her vacation, helpful tips for anyone who might be planning to travel to Asia (solo, or with a partner), and new things she learned about herself and her partner along the way. __________________________________________ Hosts: Melody Cheng and Helen Wu Contributing Editor: Haemee Kang Editor: Michelle Hsieh __________________________________________ P A R T N E R S • Vessi: Get 15% off & free shipping in select locations at vessi.com/ABG • Caden Lane: Receive 20% off your order with code “ABG” at CadenLane.com/ABG • Pampers:  For trusted protection, trust Pampers, the #1 pediatrician recommended brand. • LMNT: Get a free sample pack with any purchase at DrinkLMNT.com/ABG • BetterHelp: Get 10% off your first month with code “ABG” at betterhelp.com/ABG __________________________________________ C O N N E C T W I T H U S • Subscribe and Follow us @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts/Spotify/Amazon Music/YouTube/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook • Listener Survey: Let us know your thoughts on the podcast here • Shoutouts: Give a shoutout on the podcast here • Email: [email protected] __________________________________________ S U P P O R T U S • Merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com • Donate: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support • More about us at asianbossgirl.com Learn more about your ad choices. Living Well with Janet: Dating Tips with Elite Matchmaker, Cassindy Chao

On a recent episode of ABG, I shared that I had a conversation with a matchmaker who offered me the tip to practice flirting more in 2024. Given we are about a week away from Valentine’s day, I’ve invited her to the pod for an extensive chat about dating. We talk about what makes two people compatible, common hang-ups that I (and probably other Asian American people) struggle with in dating, managing shifting gender role expectations, romancing versus womanizing, how a man’s relationship with his mother can impact his relationship with you and how to manage boundaries from both the child and parent perspective. Cassindy Chao is a matchmaker who comes from a family of Matchmakers. She is a former Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan Equities research analyst and happily married Mother of 3 but caught the matchmaking bug in college - matching dozens of couples at the “Wellesley College Asian Association Blind Date Semi-Formal”. No Dumb Questions with Mel: How Do I Maintain Independence in a Relationship?

Today's topic is one I received a lot of votes on for a poll on Instagram. How does one maintain their independence or identity while in a romantic relationship? I've been with my partner for almost 2 years now, and while we are still learning a lot about our preferences, one thing we both learned quickly is that we both highly value our own independence. I share through the WHY aspect of this (*hint hint we both were single for a couple of years & that solo time taught us a lot) & talk through actionable items we take to create that space for ourselves. Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: The Art of Saying 'No': A Journey to 'Less' in 2024

Pause for a moment and ask yourself, what is your one word for 2024?  Today, Helen shares her chosen word of the year. Reflecting on the challenges of juggling work, family, and personal aspirations, she candidly discusses societal pressure to achieve and fulfill checkboxes, realizing the need for a shift towards a more intentional and focused life.  Her word for 2024 is "LESS," symbolizing a desire to prioritize meaningful experiences, creative projects, and connections over a hectic and busy lifestyle (which, to be honest, is all we’ve known). The episode concludes with Helen sharing words of wisdom from her audience about their words for 2024, promoting themes like resilience, self-love, balance, and more.  If you resonated with this episode, share in the comments of AsianBossGirl’s latest Instagram post, linked here. Living Well with Janet: In My Play Era, I Took a Heels Class

Play is the act of doing something purely for enjoyment. More often than not, we prioritize the practical. Our adult lives are filled with responsibilities to people at work, to our partners, to kids, parents, extended family, etc. And when it comes to ourselves, there is no shortage of tasks, activities, and engagements that we stack onto our to-do lists for personal and professional development. But play, the act of doing something purely for enjoyment, is so beneficial - essential even - to a well-lived life. This year, I'm on a mission to play more. In this episode, I share that I take a heels class. Listen in as I share my experience - why I chose this as my activity of play, what I learned, and tips for anyone who is also interested in taking a heels class. No Dumb Questions with Mel: What are My Mom's 2024 Goals?

The topic of reflection and goal setting is pretty popular amongst our generation. Around this time, whether you're looking through some self help podcasts or books, "setting intentions" and "goals" are everywhere. We actually did an episode recently on the main show (ep 252) talking through these topics. After preparing for that episode & being back at home, it made me think about my mom. I wondered “what are her goals for the new year?” and it sparked an interesting dinner conversation with her. I thought it would be insightful to dive into this question on today's episode of NDQWM! Living Well with Janet: The Thing with Grief Is…

When a loss happens (a death, a job, a breakup, whatever) some people experience emotions right away. For me, I usually cry a bit but then soldier on and attend to the To Dos. Only when things calm down do the feelings come. So when I went through a pretty big breakup back in August, while I cried when it initially happened, I became focused on the logistics of moving out, finding a new living situation, and taking care of my car incident (check out Living Well with Janet: How to Keep a Positive Mindset When Everything Feels Like it’s Going to for the bitter tea ). Now, months and months later, I've had more time to process and really think about and feel all the things this past relationship and breakup meant for me. So I want to share a story of how I found myself bawling, alone in my car on the traffic-lined streets of LA, to a Taylor Swift song blasting in the background. What about you? Are you someone who feels grief immediately or does it take time to hit you? __________________________________________ Host: Janet Wang Editor: Victoria Cheng __________________________________________ P A R T N E R S • Pampers:  For trusted protection, trust Pampers, the #1 pediatrician recommended brand. • BetterHelp: Get 10% off your first month with code “ABG” at betterhelp.com/ABG __________________________________________ C O N N E C T W I T H U S • Subscribe and Follow us @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts/Spotify/Amazon Music/YouTube/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook • Listener Survey: Let us know your thoughts on the podcast here • Shoutouts: Give a shoutout on the podcast here • Email: [email protected] __________________________________________ S U P P O R T U S • Merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com • Donate: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support • More about us at asianbossgirl.com Learn more about your ad choices. As Helen's world expands with her now-toddler, her relationships with her mommy friends have grown deeper and more significant. Cathy Nguyen is one of those friends! Living Well with Janet: EMDR, Trauma, and Mental Wellbeing with Dr. Monica Band

What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and who can benefit from it? Is trauma limited to single-event experiences? How does Gen Z approach mental health versus previous generations?  To help me answer these questions is Dr. Monica Band, an award-winning practicing mental health therapist and educator, specializing in providing trauma-informed care for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), with an emphasis on Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) and LGBTQIA+ communities. She is also the host of a new podcast called I Need to Ask You Something from Lemonada Media and the Jed Foundation, a timely series featuring stories about mental health, told directly from teens across the country.  No matter your circumstance, I believe almost everyone can benefit from better understanding the role that trauma plays in one’s well-being and learn about methods for better coping in today’s chaotic world. Living Well with Janet: How to Keep a Positive Mindset When Everything Feels Like it’s Going to 💩

No Dumb Questions with Mel: My Journey with my Body Image Pt. 1

I've been avoiding this topic for 2 years now. My relationship with my body image is something I try to protect, because it's one that has brought me a lot of pain. There was a time that I blamed my body for my unhappiness and the demon of comparison was a very large figure that took over. It's a relationship that I'd consider a "work in progress" despite being in a better mental place. After getting to a place of contentment, I wanted to share my journey with my body image. This journey is one I never thought I'd go through and one I'm still nervous to share for many reasons. I feel like when people think of "body image issues", it looks a certain way to them. However, I learned that it's a spectrum and to not discredit any of these unsettling feelings. Everybody is different and everyone has their own relationship with their physical self. If you choose to listen to this episode, I hope you listen with an open heart and mind. Hopefully, this episode connects with some of you.  *Content Warning: There will be talk about weight gain, nutrition, and body image. __________________________________________ Host: Melody Cheng Editor: Victoria Cheng __________________________________________ P A R T N E R S • Pampers:  For trusted protection, trust Pampers, the #1 pediatrician recommended brand. Living Well with Janet: My Healing Girl Summer Hits

'Healing girl summer' is the concept of taking a season to focus on tending to yourself, for yourself. It’s all about taking both the time and the space to prioritize your relationship with yourself over anyone else - to introspect, reflect, care for, inspire, and learn how to love yourself before you can love anyone else. In this episode, I share how I relate to this concept in my life right now and a handful of specific 'healing girl summer' practices that I’m doing. Which one do you plan to try? Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: My Baby Was AT My WEDDING?!

Never in all the years I've dreamed up my wedding did I think I’d have my baby by my side. Never could I imagine, even now, not having our lil kiwi head right there with us. Our little man reveled in every moment of the day -- calling out to us with his cheerful "mama baba!" during the ceremony, effortlessly floating from one guest to the other, his infectious energy lighting up the dance floor. He definitely had the best time of his tiny little life and became a true highlight of our wedding.  This episode is dedicated to how we planned the logistics of having our baby at our wedding, as well as recounting some of the more special moments of how we incorporated him into our wedding.  For those who also chose the "non-traditional" path of welcoming a baby before their wedding, we'd love to hear how you artfully integrated your baby into your wedding day. Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: My Mom Spanked Me! Parenting in the 90s vs Now - feat. Momma Wu

Have you ever wondered how your parents raised you versus how you would raise your own children? My mom would tell me these stories about how we were weaned off diapers by the age of 1, that talk about SIDS and safe co-sleeping was not a popular topic of conversation, that we were spanked as a form of discipline, and organic foods? Who needs that! On this episode, I bring my mom, Momma Wu, on to talk about the differences between parenting as an immigrant mother in the 1990s and parenting as a second-generation Asian American, now, in the 21st century. How do I find myself again?” “How do I live a more intentional life?” “I want to be present for my family and make Partner, but how can I do both?” “What are some tactical ways to overcome burnout?” Bea Kim is an Executive & Life Coach who primarily serves working parents, high-potential leaders and executives, and she has worked directly with larger companies like Google, Adobe, and Facebook. She is also a group coach for the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Helen here! I am all about tactical advice, and less about the woo-woo (even though Wu is my last name ;)). Bea Kim provides just that in this episode – tangible ways to lead a more intentional life. Straight from our editor: “Bea is so insightful and such a great speaker! I feel like I learned a lot that could be applied to my life, even though I'm not a parent.” If you resonated with this episode, share in the comments of AsianBossGirl’s latest Instagram post. Living Well with Janet: How I find SPACE in my life - My Meditation Journey

This episode is not about trying to convince anyone to meditate, if they aren’t somewhat interested already. I think most people I’ve spoken to don’t need to be sold on meditation and would like to start meditating, but the common hang-ups I hear are: "How do you meditate? Like what is going on when your eyes are closed? What am I supposed to be doing?" and "I've tried meditating before - I've downloaded apps, watched videos, or attended a short session - but I always fall off the habit. How do I develop a meditation practice or ritual? If you enjoyed this episode, please leave a meditating emoji in the comments, and if you feel so inspired, please share with me where you are in your meditation journey! __________________________________________ Host: Janet Wang Editor: Victoria Cheng __________________________________________ C O N N E C T W I T H U S • Subscribe and Follow us @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts/Spotify/Amazon Music/YouTube/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook • Listener Survey: Let us know your thoughts on the podcast here • Shoutouts: Give a shoutout on the podcast here • Email: [email protected] __________________________________________ S U P P O R T U S • Merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com • Donate: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support • More about us at asianbossgirl.com Learn more about your ad choices. Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: 5 Tips to Keep Your Relationship Strong After Having a Baby

Couples often wonder how to maintain their romantic spark after having a baby. HOW DO YOU KEEP THE FIRE GOING?!?! On this week’s episode of Spill the Baby Tea, Helen brings on to the podcast her husband, @wongfuphil, to openly talk about what’s worked for the two of them. Practicing self-care, scheduling in sexaYy time, learning how to be a good teammate, and gutturally laughing about it all when they’re both butt-nekked in bed for survival mode, rather than for funsies. Having a baby can be tough on a relationship, but it can also deepen your connection. We hope the insights on this episode will help you to maintain a strong bond with your partner during this time of change. Love, in the time of diapers. If you have any other tips or suggestions for how to keep your relationship strong after having a baby, share in the comments of AsianBossGIrl’s latest Instagram post, linked here. Living Well with Janet: What is the Formula for Happiness?

It is probably one of the most elusive things pursued by humankind. When people ask: “what do you hope to achieve in life?” “what is your ultimate goal?” or “what is the meaning of life?” – you’ll often hear the answer: I just want to be happy. But what does that really mean? Is it a state of being? Is it the same for everyone? Is it even achievable? March 20th is the UN International Day of Happiness. The purpose of this holiday is to make people around the world realize the importance of happiness within their lives. In honor of this mission, this episode explores happiness in my own life and prompts you to think about it in yours. K-Dreaming with Mel: 💋He Kissed How Many Women in the First Night??! Comparing Western & Asian Dating Shows

Hi K-Dreamers! This episode, for the time being, will be my LAST episode of K-Dreaming with Mel. 😭 This may sound like a shock to some & know that I still love K-Dramas & K-Pop very much. When we started these mini show series, it was a bit of an exploration of topics for us. At the time, I was very excited to explore the realm of Korean entertainment through a podcast. However, as time moved on, I realized there is much more I want to share with you all. SO with that, I will still be having a mini show & am excited to show an even more vulnerable side of me through it. More details will be shared through our social media along the way 😘 For now & always, I will still be consuming a lot of K-Drama & K-Pop content. I mean Part 2 of The Glory is coming out & I am very excited for it. Lastly, I want to say THANK YOU to those who have joined me with Kdreaming. Thank you so SO much! Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: 5 Ways to Manage Mom Guilt

Mom guilt is real, and when a bad day makes you feel like a bad mom, just know that you are everything your child needs. I wanted to take this episode to share what mom guilt is (cuz it absolutely is real!), when and how it shows up, how it evolves, and how we can overcome it. No mom is perfect, and every mom makes mistakes. But often, to your kids, even those ‘mistakes’ can be exactly what they need. Your kids think you are the best mom even if you forced a missed nap, watched too much TV, or ate dumplings for dinner for the x-th time this week. Let’s normalize the conversation and talk about it all. Mom guilt - the good, the bad, the guilty. Here are a few shortcuts if you’d like to hop to a topic that interests you!  [01:03] – My Giggle of the Week – Eating out with a toddler [02:33] – My Drool of the Week – Dropping the second nap!! [16:32] – 5 ways to manage mom guilt [22:10] – Outro I’d love to hear if you also have had or are dealing with mom guilt, and perhaps, what your strategies are to overcome it. Living Well With Janet: When You Meet Your Person After 35

I believe that Wellness is holistic. Beyond food, sleep, and exercise, it’s also about the relationships in our lives, and key among these relationships is the one we have with our life partner. At 37 and 44, my current partner and I are just beginning our journey together about a decade past the average person in the US. So what does that mean for us? How do we go about committing to and reaching such significant life milestones together when we’ve known each other for less time than one season of the Bachelor? In honor of Valentine's Day, I want to explore the question: what happens when you meet your person, later in life? K-Dreaming with Mel: ❤️ How to Get Your Partner into K-Dramas

Hello K-Dreamers! There's nothing hotter than my boyfriend liking K-Dramas as much as me...jk. But in all seriousness, I find that when my partner & I like the same type of shows, it has made our lounge time & our connection stronger. I've been in relationships before where our show preferences were off (I share more about this in the ep) and it played a role in our lack of compatibility.  Today, as a K-Drama lover, I wanted to share some dramas that I think your partner would like (let's suck them into our K-Drama world)! __________________________________________ Host: Melody Cheng Editor: Victoria Cheng __________________________________________ C O N N E C T W I T H U S • Subscribe and Follow us @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts/Spotify/Amazon Music/YouTube/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook • Listener Survey: Let us know your thoughts on the podcast here • Shoutouts: Give a shoutout on the podcast here • Email: [email protected] __________________________________________ S U P P O R T U S • Merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com • Donate: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support • More about us at asianbossgirl.com Learn more about your ad choices. Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: Not Showering for a Month!? My Postpartum Confinement Period (坐月子)

The postpartum period, or the “4th” trimester, can look different for many people depending on one’s cultural and societal expectations for this period of time. For me, all expectations went out the window and were guided by the one and only, Momma Wu. My mom stayed with me for a month to administer my postpartum confinement period, aka 坐月子, which literally translates to “sit for one month”. Many believe this is one of the most important periods when the mother must let her body recover and be well-nourished with confinement meals high in nutrients that aid in every step of recovery. So, what did I eat? Did I sleep? Did I shower? Did it work?! I share all of that on today’s episode. Here are a few shortcuts if you’d like to hop to a topic that interests you!  [01:40] – My Giggle of the Week – Getting a Nanny [04:53] – My Drool of the Week – How much time are we giving our loved ones? [06:21] – What is the postpartum confinement period? [07:46] – What Day 1 looked like [09:37] – Why are confinement period foods so important during this time? [13:30] – Confinement personal hygiene practices [18:51] – Cultural and generational differences [22:24] – Conclusion – did it work!? After you’ve taken a listen, let me know in the comments of our IG post, linked here, if you related to this episode in any way. If you also experienced “sitting month”, I would love to hear about it! How did your confinement period differ from my experience, or was it very similar? Did you have your mom administer your confinement period? Or did your MIL do it, which I could see being even more intense with all the things you might hold back on saying! Or did you hire a confinement nanny? And if you’re planning on doing it – what are you most looking forward to? As always, thank you for allowing me to share my personal journey with you all. I have so much more to learn and would love to continue connecting and learning from all of you out there. Living Well with Janet: Sober-Curious? Go ‘Damp’ not ‘Dry’

Given the aftermath of the last few years, I’d say that many of us have Dry Jan sitting pretty high up on our new year’s resolutions lists. But WAIT - before you empty those glasses COMPLETELY, I want to share an alternative approach to Dry Jan. Not to be discouraging, but research shows that ⅓ of people who attempt Dry Jan fail to make it the whole month. Instead of going ‘Dry’ this year - there is a new movement called going ‘Damp'. Listen to this episode to find out what it means to be 'Damp' and how to be it. Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: The Lessons We’ve Learned In Our First Year as Parents

This year has been jam-packed with new life experiences. As our baby reaches the ripe age of 1 (very soon!), I wanted to bring my husband, Philip Wang, on to the pod to talk about what it’s been like to take on this new identity of a parent. If we could turn back time, what is a piece of advice we would’ve told ourselves one year ago today? What is something we didn’t know or expect to happen in the first year as new parents that surprised us? Becoming a parent is a major life transition, and all transitions, no matter how eagerly anticipated, are accompanied by stress, fear, and lots of unknowns. We’re ecstatic that we survived the first year. And grateful that we can impart what we’ve learned to everyone that tunes in. Here are a few shortcuts if you’d like to hop to a topic that interests you! [01:38] – My Giggle and Drool of the Week [09:09] – What would we tell ourselves as new parents, one year ago today? [28:49] – Something we didn’t expect to happen in the first year as new parents, that did happen! [44:12] – Outro   After you’ve taken a listen, let me know in the comments of our IG post if you related to this episode in any way. What are some lessons that you can share with first time parents? Is there anything we missed in this episode that you would like to add? As always, thank you for allowing me to share my personal journey with you all. I have so much more to learn and would love to continue connecting and learning from all of you out there.   I hope you enjoy! #SpillTheBabyTea __________________________________________ Host: Helen Wu Editor: Victoria Cheng __________________________________________ P A R T N E R S • Vaccines: Find vaccines and boosters near you at vaccines.gov • Lomi: Get $50 off your Lomi using code ABG at lomi.com/ABG __________________________________________ C O N N E C T W I T H U S • Subscribe and Follow us @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts/Spotify/Amazon Music/YouTube/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook • Listener Survey: Let us know your thoughts on the podcast here • Shoutouts: Give a shoutout on the podcast here • Email: [email protected] __________________________________________ S U P P O R T U S • Merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com • Donate: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support • More about us at asianbossgirl.com Learn more about your ad choices. K-Dreaming with Mel: The K-Dramas of 2022 That Didn't Meet the Hype (ft. Anna Lee)

Hello K-Dreamers! We are quickly approaching the end of 2022 and the end of a full year of K-Drama watching. There were some dramas that quickly became a fan favorite, like “Little Women”, and sleeper hits that we didn't expect to love so much, like “Extraordinary Attorney Woo.” There were also shows we just did NOT like (side note: Is it just me, or does no one talk about the K-Dramas they dislike out loud?) For today’s episode, I thought it would be fitting to talk through the Best & Worst Kdramas of 2022! Join me and my friend Anna as we chat through our personal favorites, and ones that just did not hit the mark. Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: How We Got Our Baby to Sleep through the Night

We started sleep training our little one at nine months, and it has been a bittersweet journey. For his first nine months of life, every single night we held him in our arms, rocking him back and forth, dipping him up and down, snuggling him until he found his way into a comfortable nook of our arms to fall asleep in. Our hearts were heavy to start the sleep training process – would he ever fall asleep in our arms again? But we were ready to sleep more than a few hours (usually 2 to 3 hours) at a time. We recently hit the 10-month regression and he’s been pulling himself up to stand in his crib so it’s a whole new ball game now! But for a whole month, our little one slept 10-12 hours straight each night. In this episode, I share how we got our lil bubs to fall asleep independently, putting him down fully awake in his crib between 7-8PM, to waking up ~5:30-7AM, i.e., through the night. I am so proud of our little boy for learning to sleep on his own!! I remember thinking how difficult those sleepless nights were. On us, and on him. But I wouldn’t trade those 9 months for anything <3 Here are a few shortcuts if you’d like to hop to a topic that interests you! [00:53] – My Giggle and Drool of the Week [04:04] – Sleep is a hawttt topic in the parenting community! [05:55] – How was our baby sleeping before we decided to train him? [08:18] – Recommended age to sleep train and why we decided to [13:05] – Sleep training methods [16:45] – TakingCaraBabies’ plan [21:12] – So, how did it go for us?! [30:11] – What is his schedule like now? [31:10] – Benefits of sleep training [32:27] - Summary of what to do for those interested After you’ve taken a listen, let me know in the comments of our IG post if you related to this episode in any way. Did you decide to sleep train? Did you decide not to? Have you had an unsuccessful sleep training attempt? Did you have a super sleeper right off the bat?! As always, thank you for allowing me to share my personal journey with you all. I have so much more to learn and would love to continue connecting and learning from all of you out there. Living Well with Janet: I Had an Energy Healing Session and Here’s What Happened

Have you ever heard of “energy healing”, “Reiki”, or phrases like “balancing your chakras”? As someone who started my interest in wellness rooted more in traditional Western concepts of nutrition and health, energy healing is something I might have rolled my eyes at a decade ago. But since that time, I have been more curious about this modality of wellness, of healing. If you’re in the same boat as me – curious about this modality, but a little skeptical – listen to this episode where I share about my first energy healing experience (live audio from the session included!). Have you ever had an energy healing session? Or are you interested in trying it? Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: How Pregnancy Changed My Body

With any pregnancy, one of the most obvious and dramatic transformations is the physical one. As a first-time mom, I knew I’d be packing on the lbs throughout my pregnancy journey, but the weight gain and acceptance of this new body took time. I share in this episode what it was like to gain more than the recommended amount of weight for someone of my BMI during my pregnancy, the pressures to “bounce back” post-pregnancy, how my body changed, and also, how to (and not to) compliment someone who just gave birth. Society has always had a ridiculous standard on what women should look like post-birth. But a mother’s appearance after her baby isn’t what’s important, and we should not measure a mother by how quickly she can “bounce back.” Not now, not ever. With this episode, my hope is to encourage celebrating our bodies for what it has done, for what it IS doing, and for what it WILL do, not for what it once was.  Here are a few shortcuts if you’d like to hop to a topic that interests you! [00:43] – My Giggle and Drool of the Week [03:05] – Disclaimer [03:25] - How much weight should you gain from pregnancy? [07:29] – A baby is only on average 5-10lbs. Where does all the other pregnancy weight come from? [09:02] – Was there any pressure to “bounce back” to my pre-baby weight? [12:37] – What are my post-pregnancy goals? [13:39] – How my body has changed [15:58] – How to (and not to) compliment someone who just gave birth [17:33] - Appreciating our bodies for what it is doing and will do After you’ve taken a listen, let me know in the comments of our IG post what your experience has been like with the physical changes your body has gone through. Or, if you plan to be a mom one day, what did you hear in this episode that might’ve surprised you?   As always, thank you for allowing me to share my personal journey with you all. Living Well with Janet: That Time I Went to Chinese Medicine School

Those of you who have listened to some of our earlier episodes at ABG know that I have switched careers many times. I started out at one of the Big 4s working in global transfer pricing, then in social enterprise, before switching to strategy in advertising, and finally landing in UX design before going full time on ABG. However, between my stint in Advertising and my time in UX design, I actually spent about half a year in Chinese Medicine School. Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: Who's Helping to Care for Our Baby?!

Welcome to the very first episode of Spill the Baby Tea!! I’m your host, Helen Wu-Wang, and I am so excited to create a space for all of us to candidly talk about all things motherhood and parenthood. As a first-time mom to an 8-month-old baby boy and a busy working parent, I am here to share with you all what it is really like to juggle both. From breastfeeding and all the ups and downs of that journey, to why my husband Philip and I decided not to show our baby’s face on social media, to what my confinement period led by my super traditional Chinese mom was like, to finding the balance between entrepreneurial aspirations and being a present and intentional parent... there’s so much to cover. For those of you who know me from the ABG podcast, you know I’m going to keep it real with y’all. We’re in this together! For today’s episode! I’ll be covering the following: [01:19] – My Giggle and Drool of the Week [02:33] – Three reasons why I wanted to start this series [05:20] – Who’s in my metaphorical village (which is really a euphemism for who’s taking care of my baby?! lol)  My village allows me to pursue my dreams, like this one – in growing the AsianBossGirl podcast and in producing Spill the Baby Tea for y’all. So of course – they had to be my very first topic. I am so excited to learn and grow together with you all in this lifelong journey of parenthood. Living Well with Janet: What Does it Mean to Live Well?

Hi, it’s Janet! Most of you know that I’m an avid yogi, meditator, plant-based eater and all-around wellness enthusiast. As a 2nd generation Asian American woman, I often find myself experimenting with Western health trends against the context of the Eastern philosophies I was raised with. I’ve shared parts of my wellness journey in various ABG episodes, but there are pieces I have yet to reveal. Listen to this episode for a thorough recount of my journey to wellness (so far). I explore what it means to live well and talk about periods in my life when I felt unwell and how I sought to feel better. My goal with this show is not to provide formal medical or health advice - I am not licensed to do that. Nor am I trying to push any one type of diet, workout, spiritual practice, etc. I am merely a youngish middle-aged person who is trying to live my life well, and in doing so, like to expose myself to lots of different practices and perspectives which I want to share with you in the hopes that it enlivens your own personal journey to living well. Episode 144: Let's Talk Orgasms with Lioness Co-founder Anna Lee

It’s been awhile since we’ve had an episode on female sexuality. We know this topic can be a bit taboo in our culture, and maybe among some of your friendship circles as well. As Asian women, our relationship with our sexuality can be incredibly complicated and nuanced. At times it may be disheartening that we cannot control society’s dialogue about Asian women and sexuality, but we can start by controlling our own personal narratives with our sexuality. Join us for a conversation with Anna Lee, co-founder of Lioness, the women-led sexual health startup that built the world's first and only smart vibrator that gives biofeedback data to help people learn more about their own bodies and improve their understanding of sexual pleasure. Anna is a big advocate in Lioness’s mission to expand research in sexual health and to destigmatize female sexuality. This episode was edited by Michelle Hsieh. Episode 143: The People, Places, & Things That Shaped Us

In light of Thanksgiving, we wanted to share an older episode that is close to our hearts & serves as a reminder for us to be thankful (prev. Ep 91). People, Places, and things - in the most simple and direct translation, they are simply the definition of a noun. But these nouns are what make up experiences, the many experiences throughout our lives that have shaped us into who we are today. From the people who left a lasting impression on us, the places that are painted with memories, to the inanimate objects that feel more living than not...all of these experiences have left a lasting impression on us for different reasons. Today, we’ll be sharing our significant memories, specifically the people, places, and things that have made an impact on our lives. We hope you all have a great Thanksgiving! Episode 141: The Stories Our Parents Never Told Us

In today’s episode, we dig a little deeper with our parents, to hear & share the stories that they never told us. As we get older, we realize we (their children) are the only ones who will live to carry on our parents' journeys and legacies. From stories of their adolescence playing on the rooftops of a small village in China, to pains they felt in being separated from their own parents as they assimilated to America, to their meet-cute at a random mahjong night...we share all of this in today's episode. We hope these stories get some light as we pass down these never-been-shared tales from our parents & encourage you all to have these convos with your family members as you sit down for the holidays.  ______________ This episode was edited by Michelle Hsieh. [BONUS]: From the Covid Frontlines with Nurse Michelle Acob

This Hero Story is brought to you by McDonald's. With all that is happening with the pandemic, McDonald's is putting forward the effort to showcase the many kinds of heroes in the Asian Pacific American community. McDonald's desire to uplift and highlight community heroes is guided by the belief that we are all in this together, and they are committed to caring for local heroes who are caring for our country. COVID19 has profoundly impacted the world. We’ve all had to adjust to a new normal, and that new normal has looked different for everyone. In recent episodes, we shared how COVID19 has impacted our personal lives, and our experiences have reflected that of many individuals who are adjusting to the stay-at-home order. In this bonus episode, we want to recognize and honor a local community hero who is working directly on the frontlines. Today, we have Michelle Acob, a bedside and charge nurse at the Regional Medical Center of San Jose - a trauma hospital. Michelle works in one of Santa Clara County’s first Covid-19 units starting in March 2020. As a charge and infection prevention nurse, she oversees the entire Covid-19 unit and is in control of bedding patients and guiding 10-12 nurses with their assigned patient loads. We are so honored to have Michelle here to share her story and experiences during this unprecedented period of our lives. This episode edited by Michelle Hsieh. Episode 55: 2020 - The Year of ABG

2020 marks the start of something new (High School Musical anyone? Lol). A new year, a new decade. In the previous episode, we reflected back on 2019 and shared our lows & highs. Those experiences lead us to spend some time thinking about what we want to focus on in 2020. What’s next for ABG? What’s in store for Mel’s last year in her 20’s? Do we see a wedding for Helen? Is 2020 the year a man locks down Janet? Episode 54: 2019 - A Year in Review

This episode is dedicated to our collective review of 2019 for ABG (learn how we're growing our business, every step of the way!), followed by our personal reflections of 2019. Last year around this time, we reflected on 2018 and discussed our goals for 2019 (check out Episode 34!). Now that we’ve reached the end of 2019 (and survived it) we go back to the resolutions we set at the beginning of 2019 to see how we’ve tracked against those goals. We discuss our continued focus on mental health and self-awareness, our revelations about what defines success for us, habits we wish to break -- but also, answer questions like, did Mel find love? How did dry Janet do? Did Helen achieve her pull-up?! End of year reflections can be both daunting and energizing -- listen is in as we celebrate the great moments and reluctantly recall the not-so-great. Leave us a comment with your highs and lows of 2019! And if you've listened to the end of our episode, leave us a.. mirror-like emoji ;) whatever that may be.. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 53: Chinese Medicine and Women's Health with Dr. Helena Zhang

In this week's episode, we explore the topic of Chinese medicine, specifically as it relates to women's health. Alternative medicine has become a rather popular topic in recent times, and a large aspect of these alternative approaches like acupuncture, cupping, and herbs, come from the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine. We sit down with local Santa Monica Oriental Medicine practitioner, Dr. Helena Zhang, to discuss how she got involved with this practice, the differences between Western and Chinese medicine approaches, and how Chinese medicine can be applied for women's health. You can check out Dr. Helena Zhang's new online course "4 Seasons Jade Woman Method" that will launch on March 23, 2020 at her website here: http://www.goldenseedgoldentree.com/. Episode 51: First Comes Love, then Comes Marriage (Helen + Philip’s Engagement Part 2)

Love takes patience, compassion, and courage. Fairytales paint a story of “love at first sight” that leads to a rainbow and butterfly filled path to wedding bells and a white picket fence home. But real, intimate relationships challenge us as individuals and unearth each partner’s deepest personal vulnerabilities, fears, and weaknesses. Marriage - who we choose as our life partner and when we are ready to make that commitment - is an incredibly important, some say the MOST important, decision of our lives. Listen in as Helen and Philip share a very personal recount of their relationship thus far - the challenges they have faced and how they have grown individually and together - on their journey to their engagement. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 50: Let's Talk About Sex, Baby

We touched (pun intended) on sex a bit in Season 1 on Episode 5: 20 Something Girls vs. 30 Something Women (Part II Sex & Dating), but this time we go deep (pun was not intended, but now it is). Sex is a loaded topic, and for many of Asian cultural background, a rather taboo topic that we rarely discuss with parents/family or friends. From school provided sex-ed courses to internet chats to porn, our introductions to and understandings of sex were pretty fragmented and incomplete when we were younger. Listen in as we share our personal experiences with sex - how we were educated, our first times, and all the complicated partner relationships we've experienced along the way (i.e. from boyfriends to friends with benefits, to one night stands). Episode 44: Mental Health with Christine Chen

Mental Health is a topic that we frequently receive requests to talk about on this podcast. As Asian Americans, mental health is, without question, a taboo topic and one that is often dismissed and/or feared. Discussions about health and wellness are on the rise, and as Asian American women, most of us experience a particular shared set of stressors -- dealing with external factors such as our careers and our families, and internalized factors, like telling ourselves that we’re not “good enough”. In this episode, we invite our very good friend and fellow podcaster boss girl, Christine Chen to the table! Christine has been incredibly brave and open in discussing her experience with clinical depression. Recognizing that mental health encompasses a wide spectrum - from managing day-to-day stress to dealing with anxiety and clinical depression - we discuss our varying personal perspectives and experiences. We want to emphasize that we are not healthcare professionals and that this episode is purely representative of our personal experiences and points of view. If you are seeking support and/or advice, we highly encourage you to contact a professional. Episode 43: Working Women Working Out [Our Fitness Journey]

Now that summer is upon us, what’s been on the top of our minds other than cold boba drinks, summer travel plans, beach, sun and fun?? Getting that beach body ready for all of the above! Fitness is a journey and one that can begin at any point in our lives. For some of us, the fitness “Day 1’s” seems to restart just about every week. But for the most part, we try and stay fairly consistent. Physical fitness is a state of health and well-being, and more specifically, the ability to perform aspects of daily activities without much fatigue. A lot of our listeners have been writing in to us about our fitness activities and daily workouts, so this one's for you! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 42: The Grey Zone

Some call it post grad life, others call it the Grey Zone. Whatever you call it, it’s an unpredictable time in your life that you feel you aren't “prepared” for; the feeling of being in a slump, that your life can (and should) turn at any point. For us, this is the moment when self-doubt is the highest, when we start to question whether or not we are truly happy with what we have.     The older that we get, the more we realize that the Grey Zone actually extends far beyond that initial bout of freedom post-grad. These periods of uncertainty that often prompt confusion & self doubt actually occur many times throughout life - whether it’s a decade into your career, entering marriage, building a family, whatever it may be.   Listen in as we chat about the different Grey Zone periods we've experienced, and yes - that we're currently still experiencing! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 41: From AIM to IG: Staying Social Through the Ages

From AIM in the 90s to Xanga and Myspace in the early 2000s to Instagram today, social media has evolved and now-a-days, is ever pervasive in our daily (if not hourly) lives. In this episode, we reminisce about everything from screen names to handles, profiles to blog posts, and chat rooms to feeds, sharing personal stories and observations. We also discuss some of the positive and negative repercussions to living in an "always on" world and talk through personal approaches to managing well-being. Episode 40: Single and Ready to… Marry?

Ah.. the ever continuous discussion of dating (or, lack thereof). For anyone else in their post-collegiate, 30s+ stage in life, this one’s for you! We talk about the sweet spot between our 20s and 30s, where we’re no longer in a low-stakes college relationship, we’ve already been on plentyyy of dates to know the qualities we look for in a significant other, and we feel like we're SUPPOSED to be in a steady relationship building towards a family -- but 2 out of 3 of us, are not. Mel and Janet share their recent date experiences, how to maturely and respectfully 'reject' someone, qualities we gauge in finding a good partner (including wanting to jump them), and Helen talks through how to manage a busy schedule while finding time to spend with her s/o. This is also the first time we're including a "Dear ABG" segment, where we incorporate YOUR voicemails into our podcast and answer your Q's! Episode 39: Dealing with Imposter Syndrome

Imposter Syndrome - a state of insecurity & self doubt about one’s ability and/or achievements, believing they are due to luck or having successfully deceived others into thinking they are smarter or more capable than they really are. It’s a prevalent feeling (especially amongst women); this fear of being exposed as a “fraud”.  As women, and more specifically, as Asian women, the three of us have had several episodes where we've felt held back by crippling thoughts of not being enough. Whether it's because we said something 'dumb', because we sit in board rooms where no one else looks like us, because we don't feel cultured or worldly enough -- whatever it is, we (sometimes) leave the possibility of success to others. In this episode, we dive into the many moments where we feel imposter syndrome, both in our career and throughout our personal relationships. Episode 35: 36 Questions to Fall in Love (Part I)

Anddddd....we're back! Season 4, we out here! Returning with an intimate episode where we go through the exercise brought to fame by NY Times Article "The 36 Questions That Lead to Love" by Daniel Jones. The activity is based on psychology studies that explore increasing intimacy between strangers by having them ask each other a specific series of personal questions - three sets of twelve questions, each set more intensely personal than the previous set. The premise is that mutual vulnerability creates connection and closeness. Listen in as we ask each other these personal questions, and share our intimate answers. We're also trying out something new - a segment called "Dear ABG" where we address listener questions. Leave a voicemail with your questions or a shout out to a friend at (213) 262 - 8776. Episode 34: Reflections & Resolutions

It’s been such an amazing journey of shared stories and building a small ABG/ABB community with y’all. As we near the end of the first month of 2019, we reflect on our 2018 conclusions, touch upon our 2019 resolutions, and cringe/celebrate how we’ve been tracking on those #goals/#aims/#focuses to date. Join us as we talk about our intentions for the rest of the year: our shift in focus towards mental health, being more open to romance, a dry Janet, continuing to support other Asian women in the areas they excel at, becoming a better friend, and plans for ABG next season. We’ve already helped Janet w/ one of her focuses of the year – becoming a yogi! [jk, but she CAN do a free standing headstand now  - WOW!!] We are taking a short break to get them vital juices flowing again to bring new energy and a season full of fresh, kick-ass content for y’all. We’ll continue to stay connected via the Internets. Keep an eye out for MERCH!! Whether you’re still in college and applying for an apartment for the first time, 27 and figuring your shit out after that quarter life crisis, OR in your 30’s and you’re starting a family...we’re constantly trying to master the art of adulting.  In this episode, we want to talk about the moments we realize we’re actually becoming an adult-from the times we'd rather play board games than go to the club, to the times we shell out extra money for kitchen gadgets instead of fast food. Episode 32: What They Don't Tell You About Giving Birth

Babies, babies, babies…in the last episode of Season 1 “Episode 12: Labor of Love” we focused on the topic of babies! We fantasized about what it would be like to have children - from pregnancy, to labor, to the process of raising them. But because none of us are actual mothers, this discussion was all hypothetical. Sharing her pregnancy and birthing story for the first time, our good friend Cathy shines light on the blissful moments to the unexpected hardships of being a new mom.  You might know Cathy from her YouTube channel, which boasts over 300,000 subscribers, which she manages in addition to being an x-ray tech, and now, also a new mama! Episode 30: Pursuit of Yappiness

What is a "Yappie"? Some would say it's the epitome of the model minority myth. Others would argue there's nothing wrong with it. In today's episode, we'll explore the definition and effects of a "yappie" life with a special guest who has created an entire mini-series around this concept. His name is Philip Wang. He is a writer, director, actor, and he has been running a lil ol’ YouTube channel called Wong Fu Productions, even before the beginning of YouTube! For someone who stumbled deep into ‘the industry’ through his work, Philip has since voluntarily used his platform to push the Asian American agenda forward through his shorts, his social, his outreach, his mentorship, and many other initiatives that have created a wave for positive community change. Moreover, he has spent many nights single handedly guiding the ABG ladies through the ups and downs of editing and producing a podcast, and he is the crux and biggest supporter of what you are hearing today. We hope you enjoy this episode and this ABB as much as we do. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Episode 29: Asian Women - Do We Fit the Stereotypes?

Whether it’s the color of our skin, the job title on our LinkedIn, or the city we answer when someone asks us where we are from, each of these aspects of identity are an opportunity for someone to assume other traits about us. In this episode, we discuss a handful of stereotypes that apply to us as women of Asian descent: from our driving skills to our math skills, our physical strength to our bedroom preferences, and our spending habits (or lack thereof) to our tolerance for alcohol. We also dig into stereotypes associated with each of our professions: fashion, finance, and technology, as well as the neighborhoods we grew up in: San Jose, Boston, and Orange County. Take a listen and let us know if you can relate. What are some stereotypes applied to you, and are they sometimes true? Episode 28: The One About Friendships

Friendships. One of the most important elements in our lives. From the people you go out with on Friday nights to the individuals you can always depend on during tough times...some can say our friends are AS important as family. From a young age, we are taught the idea of friendships and it’s basic foundations/needs. But as we grow older and our interests, values, and where we are in life change, our relationships with our friends change as well. Some remain present in our lives and some relationships take other forms. In today’s episode, we want to talk about the different types of friends/friendships we had in our stages of life, what happens when you grow apart, and how we define a good friendship. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 27: Thankful, Now!

Happy Thanksgiving from the AsianBossGirl team! It’s been over a year now since we’ve started this podcast journey, and we fully recognize that we would not be here without the incredible talents and support of our team (Philip Wang, Kihong Lee, Eric Wang, and Michelle Hsieh!). We also know we wouldn’t be 3 seasons in without all of the gracious love and support from all of YOU! Now more than ever, we see the importance of sharing stories, relating, and growing together in a unified, supportive way. Thank you from the bottom of our soon to be very full bellies. We hope this is only the beginning of a much larger movement for all of us ABGs + ABBs x — In line w/ today’s celebration of thankfulness, we talk about the little things we’re thankful for (think: lash glue, other families babies, facetime) to the bigger things (think: mommas, friends, bros). What is it really like to relocate and live in another city/country? From elation to frustration to a love/hate relationship. “Home” genuinely becomes the most loaded, beautiful, and yet pull-at-the-heartstrings word you could ever imagine. Episode 22: Asian American Women in Media

As a podcast focused on the perspective of modern day Asian American women, we thought it would be fitting to dedicate an episode to highlighting the Asian women who have influenced us. We talk about Asian American women of today and also reminisce about those who shaped us growing up - noting that we were drawn to unconventional sources because of the lack of AA representation (Sailor Moon anyone?). We discuss the importance of relatability versus influence, and how the changing media landscape has affected the amount and types of role models available to Asian American women today. Episode 20: Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

Breakups are never easy. They’re confusing, hurtful, lonely, empty, infuriating, and aren’t the same for any two people. No matter how many times you’ve experienced a breakup, it never gets easier. These days, what we see on Instagram and other social media platforms is a euphoric state of life; that everything is perfect. We see couples head over heels for one another, but we know that image is only a glimpse into a moment, candid or not. There will always be some level of tension in a relationship, anything from I’m annoyed that he didn’t text me all day, to something as major as cheating and I have to place my mistrust behind a facade of reassurance. We’ve talked about problem solving in Episode 16. But what happens when you can’t solve those problems any longer? Episode 7: ABBBG - Asian Beauty, Boobie, and Booty Goals

As Asian women, we typically feel pressures to conform to society’s westernized beauty standards based on gender and race. From the shade of our skin to the size of our eyes, we are often scrutinized by family and media when we don’t fit into the mold of one’s beauty expectations. In this episode, we talk through our experience in dealing with this notion of “Asian beauty”. What is it, exactly? How has a tiny fold on top of our eyes become part of our privilege? How have Aaliyah, Jessica Biel, and Jolin Tsai shaped us into the women we are today? Grab some SPF (or tanning lotion) and join us, as we share our unique experiences. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/message Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 4: 20 Something Girls vs. 30 Something Women (Part I Careers)

For most of us, the 20s are our first decade operating in the adult world without the safety net and structure of parents and school curriculum. By our 30s, we have spent a decade adulting (or trying to) and figuring out our place in the world. Typically, a huge portion of that time is spent on one’s career - either committing to one right away, or exploring options. Are you someone that's struggling to get a solid foothold in your career? If you're in your teens, is this something you anticipate? If you've moved beyond your 30s, how does this apply to you now?
