This week's guest speaker is Pastor Duane Henry, Senior Associate Pastor, Portico Church in Mississauga. Pastor Henry's sermon is entitled "The Sum of our Seeds." Pastor Henry has served for more than twenty-five years as a full-time pastor in a variety of areas from youth to young adult ministry through to being an associate and lead pastor.  Duane has been married to his wife Charlene for almost twenty-six years and they have two children.

This week's special guest speaker is Dr. Loren Wilkinson, Professor Emeritus at Regent College in Vancouver. Professor Wilkinson will be sharing with us some ideas from his latest book, Circles and the Cross. 

Dr. Sarah Han, Assistant Professor of Pastoral Ministry at the Seminary, to the Tyndale pulpit. Dr. Han is an accomplished speaker and ordained minister and will lead our community in a service of Holy Communion. Dr. Han's message is entitled, "Love That Heals"  from Mark chapter two.

Pastor Kareem Faeron was born and raised in Scarborough Ontario and has a wealth of experience working in leadership roles in both church and non-church settings. In the fall of 2022, Pastor Kareem and his wife launched a new church in Ajax Ontario called Limitless Church.

This week we are pleased to have Pastor Nouhoum Coulibaly (ThM '09) who will be preaching from Matthew 9:35-38. His message is entitled "Be a Worker for Jesus".Pastor Nouhoum is originally from Mali and prior to arriving in Canada to study at Tyndale Seminary, he was an evangelist in his home country and the neighbouring nation of Senegal. Nouhoum is currently the pastor of English ministries at Zion Alliance Church in Markham and he and his wife, Dr. Karen Stel Coulibaly, and their six children live in Toronto.

Tyndale University Office of the Provost celebrates the installation of Dr. Sophia Kusyk to the Van Norman Chair of Business. Dr. Kusyk encourages listeners that the world desperately needs Christian business enterprises, guided by principles of redemption. We are called to do the hard work and step out in faith, allowing God to manifest in our lives, businesses, and society.

This week we are pleased to have Pastor Josh Philip (River Oaks Community Church, Oakville) speaking and his message is entitled "Cultivating Faith". Josh is an alumnus of Tyndale Seminary (MDiv, 2011) and worked for a number of years at Tyndale too. He and his wife Ruby live in Mississauga with their four young children.

Pastor Andrea Chang reflects on the life of Martin Luther King Jr. with her message entitled "Concerning Justice". Andrea Chang is from the Tyndale Intercultural Ministries (TIM) Centre and works part-time as an Assistant Intercultural Leadership Consultant who is certified in Intercultural Conflict Styles (ICS®) and certified with Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI®) as an Administrator and Coach. Her role with the TIM Centre also includes research where she works as a research assistant.

Stay Home | John 15: 1-8Vijay Krishnan (MTS ’20) is the Lead Pastor at The Well. He spent the first 11 years of his working life doing brand marketing for large Canadian and multi-national businesses. In 2009 he was privileged to become the lead pastor of the church which he and his wife Jennifer had helped start a few years earlier. The Well is one church with three congregations in the north GTA, working to see the unchurched, de-churched and post-everything people of the GTA come to know and love Jesus. Vijay, Jennifer and their 3 boys love being a part of what God is doing through the local church. In his spare time, Vijay enjoys listening to loud music, cooking, playing sports with his family and snowboarding the mountain-less hills of Ontario.

Clarke reflects on the scripture reading from Romans chapter 8 verses 31-39. Clarke Kennedy is a qualifying Registered Psychotherapist who works in the Counselling department at Tyndale University.

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada, a day to recognize and commemorate the First Nations and Indigenous Peoples who make up this country and who have come long before us. In light of this, we have reposted an important message to our community from Mr. Andrew Thunder (his bio is below). The title of his reflection is “A Christian Response to Reconciliation”.Andrew, an Oji-Cree Canadian and proud member of Sachigo Lake First Nation in Treaty 9 Territory, is an advocate for reconciliation for the ministries, non-profits, and businesses within the private sector. He holds a BA from Horizon College and Seminary in Saskatchewan and an MBA from the University of Manitoba. Andrew has served as an executive pastor and provided leadership to Indigenous Missions initiatives for the PAOC within Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. He currently works in the private sector as the Director of Corporate Responsibility at The North West Company - the largest employer of Indigenous peoples in Canada. His role is to lead a corporate response and initiatives related to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. For ministry, Andrew works with pastors and ministry leaders to assist them with their approach to reconciliation and ministry to Indigenous Peoples.

As we continue our Summer Series Community Chapel, Andrew Mugford invites listeners to reflect on rest and the call for prayer in our everyday lives from Psalm 119:114. Andrew Mugford graduated from Tyndale University College in 2012, with a BA, Religious Studies. Previously, he obtained a diploma in Corporate Communication from Centennial College. He worked as an emergency medical dispatcher before returning to school.He now works as the Digital Marketing Specialist at Tyndale University. He is married to Pam, another Tyndale graduate, and they have two marvellous children.

In this week’s Community Chapel, Dr. Ken Michell invites listeners with a reflection entitled “The Lord is your Keeper” from Psalm 121. Dr. Ken Michell teaches Music and Worship Arts at Tyndale. Along with his work at Tyndale, Ken is the Worship Director at Bridlewood Presbyterian Church in Scarborough and serves as Vice President of the Christian Conservatory of Music, Canada. 

In this week’s Community Chapel, Dr. Andrew Witt invites listeners to pursue wisdom as a long-term strategy to grow. The passage is about the need for wisdom, but also the stark reality of what life looks like without having the wisdom God has richly provided for us from the book of Proverbs Chapter 1 verses 20 - 33. Dr. Witt at the undergraduate in the Biblical Studies and Theology department. His main area of focus is on the Old Testament, specializing in the book of Psalms. Dr. Witt is a recent addition to our core faculty, beginning his first year of full-time teaching. He taught a few courses for Tyndale as a part-time instructor in 2018-2019. Be on the lookout for his classes related to the Psalms, Old Testament Theology, and Biblical Hebrew.He was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, and completed most of his higher education in the States. He became a Christian in his first year of college and knows how formative these four years can be in your life. He has lived in Toronto since 2010. Hobbies include biking, photography, and hiking.

In this week’s Community Chapel, we are joined by Rev. Dr. Soong-Chan Rah as part of this year’s Preaching Conference - Preaching to Reach the World in Our Neighbourhood. His message invites listeners to reflect on the church’s position in a changing world and the necessity of lament.  Rev. Dr. Soong-Chan Rah is Robert B. Munger Professor of Evangelism at Fuller Theological Seminary and the author of The Next Evangelicalism (IVP Books, 2009); Many Colors (Moody, 2010); Prophetic Lament (IVP Books, 2015); co-author of Forgive Us (Zondervan, 2014); Return to Justice (Brazos, 2016); and Unsettling Truths (IVP Books, 2019).

In this week's Community Chapel, Jennifer Chao asks a question: "What are you facing today that you cannot see?" She invites listeners to reflect on God's faithfulness from Psalm 77.Jennifer Chao is the Admission Coordinator at Tyndale University. 

Mrs. Harriet Thornhill leads a Convocation Chapel for 2023 graduates where she shares a story and four personal reflections. Her reflections include finding one's passion and purpose as a journey. She emphasizes the importance of surrounding oneself with people to grow and thrive, being intentional with that core circle of people, and trusting in the Lord.

Dr. Marjory Kerr leads Convocation Chapel in celebration of “soon to graduate” students and the installation of Chancellor Harriet Thornhill. Dr. Kerr invites listeners to reflect on the journey to Easter from John chapter 14.

In this week's Community Chapel, Dr. Daniel Scott shares a message from Psalm 23 and reminds listeners the about the Good Shepherd heading into Holy Week. Dr. Scott is an Associate Professor of Christian Ministries and Director of Modular Programs having previously served as Vice-President and Academic Dean. While Dean, he led the introduction of 8 Honours Bachelor of Arts programs, as well as the creation of the Bachelor of Education program certified by the Ontario College of Teachers.

She is a proud mother of two adult children.

In this week's Community Chapel, Dr. Daniel Wong shares his message entitled "Encountering God in Worship." Dr. Wong has been a trusted and beloved professor at the undergraduate level in our community for many years.Dr. Wong has taught at Tyndale University since 2000. He taught preaching at Tyndale Seminary from 1997 to 2005. He had extensive pastoral experience at the Toronto Chinese Baptist Church in English ministry since 1982, and when the church expanded to two locations in 1986, he pastored at the Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church before assuming his current ministry at Tyndale. In 1986, he was ordained with the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec (now Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec). Dr. Wong has spoken at many churches and conferences in Canada and the United States. He is a member of the Academy of Homiletics, where he has presented papers. He is also a member of the Evangelical Homiletics Society. Dr. Wong’s research interests include preaching and culture, pastoral theology and practice and Christian spirituality.

In this week’s Community Chapel, Dr. Sarah Han, Assistant Professor, Pastoral Ministry shares her message entitled “Go and do likewise”, inviting listeners to explore the Parable of the Good Samaritan from Luke 10 Chapter 10 verses 25 to 37. Dr. Sarah Han considers herself to be a "third culture" Canadian-Korean-Chinese and her formative theology was shaped on the mission field abroad. She has provided leadership in the Canadian immigrant church context for over a decade and has diverse experience in the Canadian public and private sectors. Dr. Han's vocational commitment and theological passion are to critically observe and reflect on how ecclesiology shapes and informs missiology and her research focuses on an intercultural, intergenerational, missional ecclesiology for Canada. Sarah and her husband along with their three children live in the GTHA.

In this week’s Community Chapel, Lisa Oppitz offers a message entitled “Gentleness as a Response to Anxiety” and shares her reflections from the book of Philippians 4 verse 5. Lisa Oppitz started her Tyndale journey nine years ago this month. She completed her MDiv in Clinical Counselling in 2019 and has been with the Tyndale Wellness Centre since then working with both student and community clients, and now as an assistant supervisor with Tyndale intern therapists. Lisa remains deeply committed to the integration of theology, psychology and psychotherapy and will be speaking on the intersection of personal and relational gentleness as a response to anxiety.

Abide – Prayer with Lizzie Reynolds and Dr. Heather Birch begins again this Wednesday, January 18, but unlike last term when we gathered on campus, this semester’s “Abide – Prayer” is in podcast format. The podcast will be available every second Wednesday in the morning through the term. Kevin White shares his message entitled Dreaming with the King and invites listeners to explore Isaiah 40 verses 3 to 5.Pastor Kevin White,  an alumnus of Tyndale Seminary (MDiv), is currently Pastor of Youth Ministries at Cornerstone Christian Community Church in Markham where he has served since 2007. He tells us that “I’ve loved being a Youth Pastor since 2000 and Lord willing will retire as a Youth Pastor”. Kevin is a talented and creative communicator and will speak to us about the influence of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on his life.

As we kick off this year’s Community Chapel, Dr. Marjory Kerr shares a message around the theme of sitting in God’s waiting room and invites listeners to explore Psalm 90 verses 1 to 6. We might find ourselves feeling like we're sitting in waiting rooms, waiting. In this week’s Community Chapel, Pastor Sawyer Bullock from Bayview Glen Church shares a message entitled “The Head and the Heart” from the book of Matthew 22 verses 34 to 39. Pastor Sawyer Bullock, an alumnus of Tyndale University (BA ’19), is currently an associate pastor at Bayview Glen Church near the Tyndale campus. While at Tyndale, Sawyer served in numerous student leadership capacities while continuing his side gig of entertaining young and old with his remarkable sleight-of-hand ability, deft card tricks, and stupefying illusions. Before beginning his work at Bayview Glen, Sawyer completed a Master’s degree in philosophy from Toronto Metropolitan University. Sawyer is husband to Rebekah, dog walker to Tommy, and patron to many downtown dumpling restaurants.

Elizabeth Reynolds, Coordinator of Student Mentoring and Spiritual Development at Tyndale is our guest speaker. Her message is entitled “I Give Up!: Abiding with the Divine in all Things”. Elizabeth Reynolds grew up in Ohio as a PK and graduated with a Master’s degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts (where she met her husband Ben). After spending a season in Scotland, Lizzie and her family moved to Toronto to begin the family’s work at Tyndale. Along with her work here, Lizzie is a mother to three thriving and active boys and she loves to hosts gatherings of all sorts at their home. As a skillful and compassionate listener, who is in demand as a mentor, Lizzie offers students at Tyndale several ways to connect and grow via regular prayer times, weekly Bible studies, and two personal retreats every term. Lizzie is an enthusiastic contemplative and thrives by staying physically active, participating in the work of her local congregation, and spending time in silence and solitude.

In this week’s Community Chapel, Reverend Paul Lam shares a message about solitude entitled “A post Christian Lament” from Mark 12 verse 6.The Reverend Paul Lam is passionate about the integration of discipleship and spiritual formation. He loves the church and longs for the people of God to flourish. For many years, he served in a local congregation in the GTA and is currently the Church Life and Leadership Associate for the CBOQ where he pastors ministers and cultivates a culture of discipleship in the denomination’s churches. He is a life-long learner and enjoys playing basketball. He is married to Lis, a Korean-American, who is a content creator and food blogger and together they have three girls.

Reverend Paul Woodburn invites listeners to explore Philippians chapter three verse 5 as he opens up with the question, “do you want to know God?”. Reverend Paul Woodburn grew up as the youngest member in a family of eleven.  After completing a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Western Ontario and a Master of Divinity at Tyndale Seminary he and his wife have served in full-time pastoral ministry for just shy of 30 years. Last year Paul published his second book entitled *A Waste of Time: Journeying Towards Intimacy with God.* The book is designed to help individuals, families, and small groups grow deeper in their love of and relationship with God. Recently Paul and his wife returned to Toronto to serve at the First Alliance Church.

In this week’s Community Chapel, Professor Jesse Sudirgo shares a message about being a guest and a host in practicing hospitality – entitled “Radical Hospitality” from Luke 14 verses 7 to 14. Professor Jesse Sudirgo is the Director of the Masters of Divinity Church in the City (In-Ministry) Program and Assistant Professor of Contextual Ministry at the Seminary. He has a diverse breadth of experience in multiple disciplines of ministry in both the church and non-profit sectors.He is the former Director of Street-Involved Services at the YSM Evergreen Centre and continues to consult with churches in their engagement with poverty in the city. He brings to his work a conviction for interdisciplinary theological reflection that considers those most marginalized in society. His background in church planting in Boston Massachusetts has shaped his interests in missional lay leadership, community development, and urban poverty.

In this week’s Community Chapel, Dr. Jen Gilbertson invites listeners about what it means to build rhythms of community and to belong to the body of Christ from 1 Corinthians 12.Dr. Jen Gilbertson joined the undergraduate faculty at Tyndale this past summer after a few years of teaching undergraduate and seminary courses in Saskatchewan. She is the Salvation Army's Territorial Indigenous Ministries consultant and has served as Chair of the Board of Indigenous Pathways.
