Steele Croswhite: Giving Up Your Dreams For The Local Church

Wouldn’t it be epic to be a rock star? Fame. Money. Glory. Amazing, right? Well, not so much. Not many of our guests have had as much commercial success, or worldly success, as Steele Croswhite. In his days as a rock star, he shared stages with some of the biggest bands of the 90s and early 2000s like The Counting Crows, Sheryl Crow, Ziggy Marley, The Foo Fighters, and more. Then, Jesus came and his life completely changed. It’s an exciting episode that reminds us that the path of following Jesus over everything is the path to true joy.Psalm 119:74 (NLT)May all who fear you find in me a cause for joy, for I have put my hope in your word.- - - - - - - - -Sponsor:National Worship Leader Conferencewww.worshipleader.com/conference- - - - - - - - -Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Signing his first record deal at the age of 21, Steele Croswhite began his career as the lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist for the acclaimed rock band Silvercrush. While the group earned Billboard chart success and toured with artists like Sheryl Crow, Foo Fighters, and Maroon 5, Croswhite’s life was falling apart. He drifted from his Christian upbringing, lured by the trappings of fame and reeling from his father’s untimely death. Encouraged by his sister to visit the church she was attending, Croswhite experienced the true grace of Jesus Christ and rededicated his life to the Lord. Today, he serves as a pastor and worship leader at The Rock Church, a suburban Salt Lake City congregation on a mission to share the Hope and grace of Christ in Utah—a state with among the fewest Bible-believing Christians in the country. It was. Through outreach efforts in the community, including those from Mormon/LDS backgrounds, The Rock Church seeks to work together, in unity, to reach the world for Jesus Christ. The Rock Music is the worship ministry of The Rock Church. It is a collaboration of musicians who are dedicated to writing, recording, and performing relevant Christ-centered music without compromise. Rooted in the local church, our sole desire is to: Love God, Bless the Saints, & Win the Lost. With Christ as our anchor, each musician subscribes to the following mission statement: I have been put on the earth to touch the world for God through music, and to be part of the best bands in the world known for loving Jesus Christ. Brian Johnson: Pain Causes Us To Do The Craziest Things

God is calling us to a place of elevated thinking, which all starts with studying the Word of God in order to be truly transformed. One of my life verses is Romans 12:2 (NLT):2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.Bethel Music Worship Leader, Brian Johnson, is our guest on this week’s episode of The Walk; a devotionals podcast for worshippers. His call to get back to the basics and his transparency about his personal struggles will be a true encouragement to all of those who listen. He challenges us, through Revelation 4, to “come up here” and elevate the way we think about the difficulties of life. Pain, suffering, the tools the enemy uses to try and pull us away from the truth found in the Bible, are simply that, tools or tactics, and when we allow God to transform the way we think, pain and suffering are viewed through a different lens. - - - - - - - - -Sponsor:The Worship Leader Institutehttps://www.worshipleaderinstitute.com/- - - - - - - - -Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Jaime Jamgochian: Back to Basics - Worshipping in Spirit and Truth

There’s no question that humans love to overcomplicate things. We do it in relationships, in our work, and in our striving for material wealth and success, but, as Jaime Jamgochian points out in this great episode of The Walk, we also overcomplicate our worship time.Simplicity in worship isn’t just a catchphrase or the latest fad, it’s the way the Lord would want us to approach him. The phrase Jaime references of “in spirit and truth” is from John 4 when Jesus is talking to the woman at the well and he says, “23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”Jesus was referring to the fact that, because of him, there’s no longer a need to worship at a temple and through a priest. Anyone can worship anywhere in the right spirit, or the correct heart posture, and with truth, or understanding and being in agreement with the gospel message as truth. Jaime’s call to simplicity can be a great practical reminder of the fact that all we need is an understanding of the gospel message and a heart focused on God and we can worship anywhere and anytime.- - - - - - - - -Sponsor:Planning Centerhttps://www.planningcenter.com/- - - - - - - - -Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Sitting down to talk with worship artist Jaime Jamgochian you quickly realize she is a woman of faith who God is using in many different ways through her music and message. It’s immediately evident she has a passion to see people know how much God loves them and a desire to see that reality change their lives—because it has changed hers. Jaime came to know the Lord at 21 while studying music at Berklee College of Music in Boston. God completely changed her life and it is her greatest desire to see people encounter Jesus in a real way. From Boston, Jaime ended up in Seattle where she was a worship leader for several years and began writing her own worship songs. It was during that time in Seattle that Jaime signed with Centricity Records and went on to record 3 albums with them. She then moved to Nashville, TN which she still calls home, and continues to travel throughout the US and internationally leading people in worship, singing songs of hope, and sharing a message of finding your value and purpose in Christ.Whether leading as a guest at churches, conferences, or on various tours her heart is still to see people encounter the presence of God. Several of Jaime’s singles are still being played on Christian radio stations & many churches are incorporating them in their Sunday morning worship set lists. “The Stand”—one of Jamgochian’s favorites to lead because of the theme of “surrender”—is one of her highest radio charting songs to date, falling in line with a discography that includes two full-length albums on Centricity Records. One of her most well-known original songs “Hear My Worship” spent 12 weeks at #1 on national Christian radio and she was the #1 Inspirational artist on the Billboard charts in 2008.MB01WPDZ0LT0HUMMB01VEMZPLSEUIUMB01DGE1GUM78BWMB01MCIXMGLTIAKMB01UIWJOEGRDDUMB01O5H8TWGJKLY

David Funk: A Wound From The Holy Spirit

It’s encouraging when someone is able to recognize when their gifting is from above. We’re to use what God has given us to glorify God and not ourselves. John 15:5 (ESV): I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. In this devotional podcast, David Funk, who is a member of the Bethel Collective and featured on the latest Bethel Music album Come Up Here, brings a great word that reflects on the importance of never creating an idol out of what you do.This topic of worshipping the gift over worshipping the Father who gave us the gift isn’t a new issue, but in this age of secular humanism and the emphasis on self-fulfillment without God, it’s an important message we should never tire of hearing. We encourage you to pray Psalms 139 over yourself daily in a posture of repentance in order to ensure you are fully aligned with the Father and pointing the glory back to him.- - - - - - - -Sponsor:Song Discoverywww.songdiscovery.com- - - - - - - -Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Lecrae: Taking God At His Word

On today's episode of The Walk our guest is Christian Hip Hop artist Lecrae. His music has been a blessing to millions of people and though he’s not considered a traditional “worship leader,” we felt it was important to add his voice to our podcast. Besides, who are we to define what “worship” is? We’ll be platforming a lot of different voices going forward and we’re excited to expand our focus on those out there that would consider themselves to be “worshipers.”In this episode, Lecrae tells the story of his tumultuous journey to a deep level of faith in God. Growing up as a non-believer, once he became born again, other believers not representing God well caused his faith to falter. As a part of Lecrae’s story, he fell into disenfranchisement with God due to those around him and their negative influence. But God wasn’t done with Lecrae and the story of how he came back to an even deeper level of faith is inspiring. There’s never a day when we don’t need to be constantly reminded of God’s love for us and this great devotional podcast is today’s reminder.- - - - -SponsorSong Discoveryhttp://songdiscovery.com/- - - - - - Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Before the Grammys, before releasing the #1 Album in the country (Anomaly, 2014), Lecrae dropped arguably the most seminal project in his catalog, Church Clothes. XXL said, “It’s impressive how he’s able to deliver a message without being preachy”, calling Church Clothes “a prime example of the reach of hip-hop music and culture.” The people spoke even louder downloading the project 100,000 times in 48 hours. People rocked with the mixtape because it was the first time someone planted their feet simultaneously in the streets and the Church without compromising.10 years and two more entries later (CC2, and CC3), it becomes crystal clear that while Lecrae didn’t start Christian Hip-Hop (CHH), it’s his lane. In the 10 years since Church Clothes originally dropped no one has been able to keep a consistent focus on sincere Christianity and authentic Hip-Hop representation while enjoying the heights and enduring the lows like Crae.On Church Clothes 4, the mission remains the same for rapper, CEO, New York Times Best-Selling author, investor, and activist: To represent faith and Hip-Hop with an Unashamed edge that challenges the Church to live up to its potential and encourages the Culture to reconcile with its Savior. In this entry, Lecrae gives his listeners an opportunity to see what it looks like to reconstruct a vision of faith despite the large-scale shift toward mistrust and disillusionment with Christianity in the wake of America’s racial tensions.Musicbed Sync ID:MB01UU60WUXQSHQMB01W5Z7CKR6FPJMB01OVUMEHWL8LOMB01VFIAVQRL2KMMB01VZDVFDIE68TMB01XMFNOMYXP1Q

Luke Hellebronth: Unearthing The Natural Songs of God’s People

Unearthing the natural songs coming from a local body of Believers has become an exciting movement happening across the globe. Churches are tapping into their songwriters and artists and asking them to put poetry and prayers to music on behalf of their congregation. This exciting trend has birthed some of the largest worship platforms in the world. In today’s episode our guest, Luke Hellebronth of Gas Street Music out of Birmingham, England, sheds light on a new way of looking at songs and their origins. His team’s “re-wilding” strategy could be a helpful model for songwriters and Christian musicians. Of course, the “strategy” aspect of this technique starts with making space for the Holy Spirit to guide the creative process. - - - - - - - - - -Sponsor:Soldiers for Faithhttps://soldiersforfaith.com/- - - - - - - - - - Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Josh Baldwin: Pastor The People Not The Dreams

“A delay isn’t a denial.”“Pastor the people that God has put right in front of you and let God shepherd your dreams.” So good! This episode is full of heart and wisdom thanks to Bethel Music artist and songwriter, Josh Baldwin. He’s passionate about creating space for people to be seen and heard by God and today’s story is a peek into his past, which shows the origin of that passion for people. This great story also reinforces the need for the local church by uncovering just one aspect of its important role; to foster our creative artists. These communities of faith all over the world are the keepers of our creatives. Each church where we allow the Holy Spirit to move will grow up incredible artists, songwriters, painters, creative business people, writers, and more. Calvin Nowell: Turning Your Mess Into Your Message

Calvin Nowell’s testimony about his struggles with weight produced one of the most vulnerable and powerful episodes of The Walk that we’ve ever released. We’re so proud to put this out in honor of all of those who struggle with the weight of sin. It’s time for us all to put that sin at the altar and move past it, one step at a time. His scripture reference of Hebrews 12 is such a powerful reminder that, like Jesus, we all need to choose to run the race with endurance and through repentence, prayer, and the support of others, we really can lay down our weight and RUN! He endured the cross for us to be able to set aside our sin. Praise the Lord.Hebrews 12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.- - - - - -Sponsor InformationSong Discoveryhttps://www.songdiscovery.com/- - - - - -Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Charity Gayle: Don't Grieve What You Haven't Lost

We love nothing more than when our guests share stories of how they’ve grown in their faith even if those stories cover situations not widely talked about. The pressure on women to be married by a certain age is still a real thing in our churches and Charity Gayle’s wonderful testimony has all of us contemplating how we can grow in contentment.Charity is known for a lot of amazing songs right now that include I Speak Jesus, Thank You Jesus For The Blood, and We Need A Miracle, but we’ve known Charity for almost a decade when she first hit the Song Discovery stage singing the songs that the Holy Spirit gave to her. We know her heart to be pure and we couldn’t be more thrilled to see how her voice has been amplified. She’s a person worth listening to because she truly lives out her faith. The scripture she references is worth reading daily:Luke 12:27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,[d] yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29 And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried.Lord, we too pray for all our listeners to breed contentment in their daily lives through a life of faith and trust in your Word. We believe your Word to be true. Charity houses a powerful voice that has a fresh yet reminiscent sound. She loves the Lord with fierce faith and was raised in a home full of worship and has been involved in ministry since she was a child. Growing up in Buffalo, NY, Charity was a part of a culture that thrives in the spirit of unity while celebrating diversity. Surrounded by worship and the Word, her love for praising Jesus through music grew as she did. One of her favorite things growing up was watching her mom direct choir at Thursday night choir practice and by the age of 16, she was directing multiple choirs herself. “I love harmonies in gospel music. I think about Heaven being full of every type of voice from every nation, finding their part and praising God at the top of their lungs together around the Throne.”She spent two years in Nashville in 2014 and 2015 where she fell more in love with the art of writing songs for the church. Focusing on bridging the gap between worship and gospel music, she has authored songs like ‘Amen’ ‘Psalm 100 (Enter In), Cleansed and ‘New Name Written Down in Glory’. Her first record, ‘Lord, You are my Song, debuted at #1 in the Christian and gospel genre in January 2018. She recently released her sophomore album ‘Endless Praise’ in Sept. 2021, featuring the song ‘Thank You Jesus for the Blood’ also debuting at #1. Most recently, Charity received a Dove Award for the song ‘Benediction (As You Go)’ on Selah’s record, “Firm Foundation”. Charity lives and leads worship with her husband, Ryan Kennedy. They are cultivating a movement for 24-hour prayer and worship called GatherHouse, and are continuing to write and spread the gospel in the US and globally.

Patrick Mayberry: The World Doesn’t Fight Fair

This episode of The Walk features worship artist, songwriter, and worship leader Patrick Mayberry and his wisdom could apply to anyone leading a team in any setting. He brings a great combination of practical advice for those on worship teams, as well as some great inspiration based on 2 Corinthians 10.2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (ESV) For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ…For those of us in leadership, having a grasp on the vision God has given you for your business, church, or ministry, and passing that vision along to your team can not only inspire, but it can motivate your team to pursue excellence in the practical applications of their giftings. The abilities that God has given us, when used for Kingdom purpose, destroys lies and attacks set against us in the spiritual relm that manifest in the physical realm. Use your “weapons” today, whether that be leading worship, doing taxes, or fixing cars, for God’s glory and you’ll see strongholds destroyed, in the mighty name of Jesus. - - - - - -Sponsor InformationWorship Leader Institutehttps://www.worshipleaderinstitute.com/coaching- - - - - -Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Ryan Kennedy: God’s Image of You VS. The World’s

God is so good and so loving and we are blessed to be his children. In this episode of The Walk, Gatherhouse worship leader, pastor, and songwriter Ryan Kennedy talks us through the life-changing experience he had when he achieved his dream at 17 of getting a show produced Off-Broadway.At least, he thought it was his dream. So many of OUR dreams come from experience with what our culture tells us our dreams SHOULD be. There are few scriptures as powerful and as poignant as Galatians 2:20, which Ryan references in this episode.(ESV) I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.In our “me” culture, the idea of no longer having an identity that YOU control seems oppressive, but once you learn the truth of how good our God is and how much he loves us, it’s easier and easier to live a life of faith in the Son of God. Ryan’s testimony in this episode of The Walk is powerful and a great devotional to start off our year with. Let’s all commit to walking away from “flesh” and running toward “faith” in 2023. Benjamin William Hastings: Did God Send The Storm?

Our God is good, all the time. In this episode Benjamin William Hastings asks the question, does God sometimes allow the storms to come? His question is linked to a journey through the streets of London during a literal storm, but the metaphor is relevant to us all. How many times have we cried out during a challenging season in life only to get to the other side and realize how much that season caused us to press in and build a deeper relationship with the Father?“The only way through it is to Hallelujah!” Is a lyric from Benjamin’s song that he sings with Blessing Offor called That’s The Thing About Praise. He couldn’t be more right…we just need to praise our way through the storm, even when we don’t feel like it’s making a difference. Today we say, “Hallelujah,” for those that are struggling with illness. We say, “Hallelujah,” for those that got laid off. We say, “Hallelujah,” for those dealing with the pain from the loss of a loved one. On it goes until we are singing praises to our King no matter the storms we face. Justin Warren: Did I Not Pray Hard Enough?

What Christian hasn’t asked the question, “did I not pray hard enough?” One of my first questions for God when I get to heaven will be, “what took you so long!?” God’s timing and our timing don’t often align in the exact way we would wish. Given the expectation we have in our culture of faster is better, waiting on the Lord to answer while enduring any sort of pain or discomfort is not something that we usually handle well.Justin Warren, a recording artist and worship leader, talks us through a journey he went on that made him doubt his calling. He was challenged by God to press in and wait on the Lord for an answer. Through that process a beautiful new song was written and spiritual growth happened and he’ll share his story with us on today’s episode.- - - - - -Sponsor InformationWorship Leader Institutehttps://www.worshipleaderinstitute.com/- - - - - - Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Jordan St. Cyr: How To Wait On Your Miracle

There’s no question that walking through something as painful as watching your child suffer will cause you to question your faith in God. Jordan St. Cyr, Canadian Worship Leader and artist, tells us about his daughter, Emory, and the health trials she’s encountered since joining us here on this earth.Jordan’s testimony is actually one of encouragement for all of us who have or are currently walking through a time of testing. He addresses that difficult time frame right between the blessing or miracle and when we’re just believing in faith for that miracle. It’s a beautiful place to exist, but it can cause us to fall away or draw closer to our Creator.Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”- - - - - - Sponsor InformationWorship Leader Institutehttps://www.worshipleaderinstitute.com/Additional Linkshttps://www.jordanstcyr.com/https://www.instagram.com/worshipleader/https://worshipleader.com/all-podcasts/https://authenticmedia.company/https://worshipleader.com/all-podcasts/our-host/- - - - - - Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Sarah Kroger: Every Time I Stepped On Stage I Hit A Wall

It’s so easy in our world of social media to fall into the comparison trap. Sarah Kroger, an accomplished worship songwriter and performer, gives a personal testimony of walking through that trap and stepping out into the freedom that comes when we embrace God’s love. Her personal story will translate to all of us as no human has ever walked this earth and not had the thought that someone else has it better. We’ve all said, “I wish I were more like her/him,” or “I wish I had what they had,” or “My life isn’t good enough without what they have.” But God says…Psalms 139 13-16For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.- - - - - -Sponsor InformationPlanning Centerhttps://www.planningcenter.com/Additional Linkshttps://www.sarahkroger.com/https://amzn.to/3EjBrra - The Life of the Belovedhttps://www.instagram.com/worshipleader/https://worshipleader.com/all-podcasts/https://authenticmedia.company/https://worshipleader.com/all-podcasts/our-host/- - - - - - Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Steven Fry: Your Ministry TO God

In this episode of The Walk; a devotionals podcast led by worship leaders, Steven Fry addresses one of the most common side effects of full-time ministry. We enter with passion for the ministry, but in our human failure that passion turns those serving into slaves of the ministry instead of servants of the almighty God.Steve is a pastor, worship leader, artist, playwright, and author. In his 50 years in ministry he has served in almost every role you can imagine. His wisdom for how to stay focused on what’s important, which is his personal relationship with Jesus, over what’s tangible and feels important, the daily work of the ministry, has been the key to sustaining him for those 50+ years. He pulls from a story that isn’t often preached and comes from Ezekiel 44 and surrounds the Levitical Priests called the Sons of Zadok. This episode is sure to challenge and encourage anyone, whether you serve in full-time ministry or not. In essence, we are all ministers in whatever role we fill our daily lives with, so listen and please respond with comments and shares. We would love to see this amazing message reach more and more people who are falling into the temptation of striving for the world instead of abiding with Jesus.- - - - - -Sponsor InformationPlanning Centerhttps://www.planningcenter.com/Additional Linkshttps://www.thegate.cc/https://Stevenfry.orghttps://amzn.to/3UOyCF4https://www.instagram.com/worshipleader/https://worshipleader.com/all-podcasts/https://authenticmedia.company/https://worshipleader.com/all-podcasts/our-host/Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Jason Clayborn: Being Close to Greatness

There are so many times we mistake “greatness” for something that we as humans do and achieve instead of realizing what it really is; the “anointing” of the Holy Spirit on someone operating within their God-given gifting. In this episode, Gospel artist, songwriter, worship leader, and co-writer and performer of Rapha, Jason Clayborn, tells a story of his first encounter with “greatness” and how he learned that those who carry a higher calling on their life and submit to the will and authority of Jesus are able to carry his presence in the form of a Holy Spirit anointing.Once we recognize that all Christians carry some form of this, how do we reconcile our differences and how does this calling on our lives draw us closer to Jesus, while also introducing others to Jesus through us? These questions and more are touched on in this exciting podcast episode from this seasoned artist and worship leader in Jason. We’re thrilled to have him as a guest and we encourage you to comment below, review our podcast, subscribe to our show, and please share our content as we believe this show is “anointed” with the purpose of equipping and building up those on worship teams and who volunteer in churches all over the world.- - - - - -Sponsor InformationPlanning Centerhttps://www.planningcenter.com/Additional Linkshttps://bio.site/smjchttps://www.instagram.com/worshipleader/https://worshipleader.com/all-podcasts/https://authenticmedia.company/https://worshipleader.com/all-podcasts/our-host/Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Dustin Smith: It’s Easier to Reject Than Redeem

We’ve all walked through experiences where we’ve been asked to do something that we didn’t feel prepared for. Those situations often cause us to be stretched beyond what we believe we’re capable of. The U.S. Navy SEALs have a saying: "Get comfortable being uncomfortable." Now, we’re not all called to become Navy SEALs, but as followers of Jesus we are automatically members of the Lord’s army. That means we’re faced with embracing the uncomfortable situations of life that Jesus puts us in.In this episode, we travel back with Dustin Smith to his early days of ministry and learn about how he became a worship leader that could also play the piano. That led to an anointed career as a songwriter, musician, worship pastor, and now senior pastor at Hope UC in Nashville.Dustin’s encouragement to step out and not let insecurities get in the way of what Jesus has for you makes for a great episode of our devotional podcast, The Walk.- - - - - -Sponsor InformationPlanning Centerhttps://www.planningcenter.com/Additional Linkshttps://www.herebelions.org/https://www.instagram.com/worshipleader/https://worshipleader.com/all-podcasts/https://authenticmedia.company/https://worshipleader.com/all-podcasts/our-host/Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. Stephen Mcwhirter: Transformation of a Wounded Pastor's Kid

Romans 3:23 (NKJV) says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” That includes Pastors and those in full time ministry. We are all sinners and constantly need salvation, grace, repentance, and realignment with the way of Jesus.Worship Leader, songwriter, and worship artist Stephen Mcwhirter has a story that may seem “extreme” to some of us, but to God is just another example of a lost sheep finding its way back home to the Father. It started with abuse, which led to a lifestyle of seeking to escape the pain of that abuse, then to radical salvation, and to an even more radical transformation. This episode is inspiring, to say the least, but it also includes a roadmap that all of us can be encouraged by, which surrounds learning to love Jesus when nobody else is watching. Psalm 91:1 (NKJV) says, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most HighShall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” A daily practice of visiting with Jesus and building that intimate relationship with the Creator leads to a life that can reshape a radical transformation that starts with a one-time event, but sustains through an entire life.Matthew 6:1 (NIV) “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. It wasn’t through fire or earthquakes as it says in 1 Kings.1 Kings 19:11-12 - Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. What are you doing to position yourself on a daily basis to hear the voice of God? Elias Dummer: Is It Worship or Performance?

So many Worship Leaders are so concerned about being accused of “performing” and not actually leading worship. Questions like “are we doing it well?” and “how did we sound?'' come before the important question of “did we see lives changed?'' and “did people meet Jesus?” There’s a tension that exists between the space of worship and the space of performance. Accusations of “that church just puts on a show” are prevalent within the western Church and our megachurches have spent lots of tithe money on creating a highly produced Sunday service. One might even say that the light show on Sunday helps keep the lights on the rest of the week.Elias Dummer knows a thing or two about this topic of worship versus performance. As a former successful CCM artist and lead singer of the band The City Harmonic and as a songwriter and Worship Leader for his local church, he has a unique perspective based on his years of experience. In this episode he addresses this issue by bringing us back to the basics of how we were created.Hopefully, through this episode, our tribe will be able to remove the fear of creating a performance culture and just focus on doing worship well and connecting the congregation with God.This podcast is brought to you by Authentic Media and Worship Leader Magazine. Hopefully, as Cheri did, I would walk through it with scripture, prayer, and faith. Her testimony on how God brought the right Word at the right time is an important reminder for all of us. We limit how much the Holy Spirit can speak to us if we don’t really know our Bible. In addition to comforting us during times of trials, like in Cheri’s case, she also references the importance of knowing the Word of God in times of celebration. We are blessed that he had the time to share this incredible devotional with us all about faith. God is so good and so alive.Today’s episode is one of those worth listening to…twice.More about our podcast can be found on Worship Leader's website.https://www.kurtisparks.com/bioAbout Our Sponsor - Next Sunday https://bit.ly/3P71uFwWill future generations find a church worth fighting for?A great reckoning is underway in the church today: a naming and exposing of the exclusivity, abuse, racism, patriarchy, and unchecked power that have marked evangelical Christianity for far too long. What kind of church will emerge on the other side?Like many families, the Beaches have been wrestling with this question. Together, Nancy and Samantha represent two generations: Nancy, a boomer, was a key player in the megachurch movement that revolutionized global ministry during the '80s and '90s, while Samantha, a millennial, is willing to abandon those massive buildings and celebrity cultures and find out whether the foundation holds. Each chapter offers their individual experiences and perspectives on a challenge facing the church and considers the way forward.Filled with deep introspection and keen insight, Next Sunday is a vulnerable conversation about what the church has been—and what it can be.Go here for more on the book: https://www.ivpress.com/next-sundayhttps://bit.ly/3P71uFw*Our website is supported by our users.
