She also spent three years teaching Indigenous children of all ages in remote communities in Western Australia where she also gained a post-graduate certificate in Early Childhood Education.Through these experiences Giulia came to a deeper understanding of the importance of a structured and systematic approach to the teaching of reading and writing.Giulia has worked privately as a Multisensory Language Specialist (MSL) for the past five years, teaching children with dyslexia and dysgraphia. She has also trained with Ron Yoshimoto in phonology and morphology. Giulia has a particular interest in developing older students’ writing skills, which includes supporting their understanding of basic sentence structure, to helping students to clearly articulate and express themselves in longer stretches of writing.As Director of The Ranges Learning Centre in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Giulia works with parents navigating the often-overwhelming world of supporting a child with learning differences and advocates for them within the school setting. His writing is insightful, thoughtful and incredibly poetic.A lifelong soldier, literally before he was old enough to drink, Robin takes us into his early days of soldering into the life as British SAS and ultimately to his love of the pen. Robin is a man of principles, service to family and country, with the view to always seek truth and justice no matter what the sacrifice.Born in Farnham, Surrey, UK. Following a divorce from his birth father, his mother Hazel married his step-father, who adopted him and gave him the name Horsfall. A broken family life adversely affected his education, so he left school in 1972 at the age of fifteen and joined the army as a boy soldier.Despite a long period of isolation and bullying by his peers, he became a full member of the Parachute Regiment in 1974 and served three tours of Northern Ireland. In 1978 he volunteered for SAS selection and passed on his second attempt in March 1979. Having established himself as one of the superstars of the competition in 13 seasons with the Lions, Paul Roos joined the Swans in 1995 and at centre half-back was instrumental in the Club’s rise to Grand Finalists in 1996. His playing days ended in 1998, after 87 games and 19 goals for the red and white. His association with the Club, however, had only just begun. Appointed Senior Coach midway through 2002, his coaching record was extraordinary as the Club played finals football in all but one of his eight full seasons at the helm. Paul Roos led the Club to the 2005 Premiership – its first in 72 years. Turn your pain into a cause - Cal Gates | EP100

250 reasonsCal Gates family had been significantly affected by Leukemia, his wife's (Tara) Mum had passed away from it when she was 3 years old. Cal had seen the impact of what this disease had done to his family and friends over the years, Cal says, “it hurts and to be honest I don't think that pain will ever leave.”9+ Years ago his wife Tara raised over $9,000 by shaving her head to raise further money for the study into Leukemia, the disease that had hurt her family. To say he was inspired was an understatement. Cal stated “often hair can represent so much for a woman, so to see her do this was an amazing thing to witness.”So he thought about what he could do in order to contribute... he decided that he couldn’t shave his head because he had no hair already, so he kept thinking about what he could do that would help to raise some funds.Cal had always like ultra-trail running, he had done a few ultras before, saying that was not particularly good at them (being 100kgs) but he loved them none the less.So, on June the 2nd 2022 he decided to run from Newcastle to Sydney along the GNW trail in a single push. It is 250km in length (maybe a little more) and climbs over 10,000+m in vertical gain. At the time it as estimated to likely take approximately 60+ hours to complete. His goal was to raise $100 per km of the GNW trail totalling $25,000.Cal believed that this was to become his ultimate test, prepared for discomfort, tears and significant pain. However, he believed that none of it even came close to the pain that people with Leukemia have had to face daily.Cal ultimately completed the run and raised over $50,000. After earning a master's degree in International Business and getting awarded a doctorate in European Law in record time, Kay has worked in more than a dozen countries as a McKinsey consultant. When he reached the level of an Associate Principal, he moved to Australia and joined the Buying leadership team at Coles Supermarkets in 2011, followed by the Woolworths Group from 2017 to 2020.During his time as a corporate leader, he pursued his passion for long-distance running and learned to master the mental game. Kay stepped up from hobby marathon running to becoming one of the fastest ultramarathon runners worldwide. In his first year of ultrarunning in 2015, he improved the race record of the 250-kilometre-long Big Red Run by more than five hours. Then he joined the Australian national team in the 24-hour running format and became the fastest-ever Australian at the world championships, clocking 259.67 kilometres within 24 hours. In 2019 he got awarded the Australian Ultraperformance of the Year Award.The pivotal moment unravelling his personal transformation was a simple right turn at his garden gate. Accidently, one day Kay turned right and realised that he had never turned right at that juncture. Too much was he caught up in his need for predictability, clinging to discipline and self-control. Turning right made him realise that there was a world out there waiting for him to explore, so – metaphorically speaking – Kay started turning right more often embracing uncertainty. Over this journey he learned how to leave behind the limitations he placed on himself which prevented him from overcoming his biggest challenges and reaching his dreams. He has taken the Australian ultraendurance scene by storm as is known for running insane distances with a love for “last man standing races” which is a gruelling form of competition.Ryan is a father of two sons, who has a beautiful wife who loves and supports him on his journey. He’s been competing and challenging himself in ultra-marathon running over the past five or so years. Ryan has come from a fighting and training background in the art of Muay Thai for many years prior where he achieved both National and State titles as well as balancing full-time construction work and family life. He believes that the transition was relatively smooth because training hard was no stranger to him; preparing for his fights and conditioning the body/mind was an absolute must, so his training just evolved as he did.Ryan is intent on leaving a legacy and intends to show his boys and those around him that anything is possible if you truly want it and work hard for it, also to teach them the blueprint to mastering the mind to get through tough times; for him, it’s not just about running, it’s about meeting and overcoming the challenges of life. Joshua Frank (JT) is a proud veteran and first responder. He started his career in the United States Air Force and has spent the last 23 years protecting and serving his country as a civilian federal employee. Through his extensive time in the military and as a first responder, he has become intimately familiar with both the positive and negative lifestyle and habits associated with these career fields. Unfortunately for JT, the negative habits progressively played a larger role in his life. EP16 | Charlie Engle: From crack addiction to running 4500 miles across the Sahara Desert

After a decade-long addiction to crack cocaine and alcohol, Charlie Engle hit bottom with a near-fatal six-day binge that ended in a hail of bullets.
