How to Stop People Wasting Your Time on Discovery Calls
Welcome to RYFB with me, Ruby McGuire, Business Mastery and Mindset Queen. This podcast is for you if you're a service-based business owner, a solopreneur. You're effectively the CEO of your business. I'm here to help you feel and behave like one. In this podcast show, we'll explore the many facets of being the leader, aka Queen of your business. We'll talk about creating a success mindset and taking your business to the next level. I'll be talking all things business mastery, mindset and manifesting through the Law of Attraction. I do like a bit of woo! Tune in (mostly weekly) as I'll be sharing lots of business strategies to help you. Make sure you head on over to www.rubymcguire.com to find out how we can work together. Book in a call and let's share a virtual cappuccino together! XXX How to stop people wasting your time on discovery calls In a recent Queen of Business mastermind call, one of my clients (Queenies) asked what to do when you have clients come onto a discovery call and turn out to be time-wasters. If you've been in business for any length of time, you'll know that this happens. Sometimes people do their research around who to work with. You'll also have those people that want to get some free coaching on the call. To help you overcome this issue, I'm sharing the three simple strategies we discussed. Your time is precious. You've got a queendom to run after all! You want people that are ready to work with you, not trying to get free information/advice. Here are 3 simple ways to reduce the amount of people taking up your time : 1. Create a filtering system / selection process What do I mean by this? Create a form on your website that asks your potential clients a series of questions. You want to understand the following: What they are struggling with What they hope to achieve by working with you Their level of commitment I have to say that my favourite question of all time, is one that my then coach, Adrienne Dorison, gave me: ‘How committed are you emotionally and financially to working with me right now?” You need to know the level of commitment that this potential client has. This question cuts to the chase and allows you to find out whether they're going to be a good fit for what you have to offer. It stops time wasters because in that question they will usually share with you what level of budget they have and whether they are ready to commit financially or not. It’s not just about the money though. You want to know if they're ready emotionally too. I like to KISS - Keep It Simple Sweetie - I just ask 4 questions now: What ONE key thing would you like to discuss on our call today? (It keeps the call focused) What have you done so far to resolve your current issue? (This tells me if they are action-takers or not) How committed are you emotionally and financially in us working together? (The golden question) Is there anything else you’d like to share with me in preparation for our call? (This allows them to share important detail with me if they want to) Sometimes, clients will share a story with you about how they've worked with other coaches and they haven't got results. It's quite possible that this is because they weren't ready, rather than it being down to another coach(es) poor skills. If someone bemoans people that they've worked within the past, treat this as a red flag. Once you know the answers to this question of emotional/financial commitment, you can then decide whether to carry on with the call or adjust the length of the call if necessary. Let’s say that they complete the form and tell you that they're working to a £200 budget (change the currency to whatever works for you). You might know that your services start at £500. You can then send them a link to a page on your website with your pricing and services. In the email, you can explain the entry point of your pricing structure. You both then may decide that it's not worth holding the call. You can then consider sharing a link to free resources that you've created. You could also introduce them to someone that can help based on the budget they have to spend. Remember to review your questions from time to time, and adapt where necessary. 2. Put your pricing on your website For some people, putting your prices on your website is a controversial thing to say. I would much prefer to know the price of something to enable me to make an informed decision about whether to buy or not. I don't understand why you wouldn't put your prices on your website. I don’t see the need for secrecy. Maybe that’s just me! I encourage you to put your prices on your website, because this allows your client to decide if they want to find out more about you, and whether to book a call to discover if you're a good fit to work together. The potential pricing barrier has gone, so that's one less obstacle that you have to overcome on that discovery call. That's a win: win in my book! When a client checks out your pricing, they have a decision to make. Can they afford you right now? If not, then maybe they'll pull together a plan to make it happen. They are less likely to jump on a call with you and waste your time, and they won't be wasting their time either. 3. Set expectations at the beginning of the call As you get on the call with this prospective client, set it up as a sales call. Check their understanding and expectations of the call with you. Explain that this is a sales call, and you're talking to find out if you're both a good fit for each other. Tell them that once you've taken them through a few questions, you'll be sharing ways in which you can work together. Another method to manage expectations is to remind them at the beginning of the call how long you’ve allocated for your discussion. That way you’ve set a boundary around how long the call will last. This is a pretty standard method for coaching calls, yet, it also works great for all calls. This way, you won’t overrun. Once you manage expectations you’ll find the call will be a lot easier. Here’s a bonus tip: Get clear on who/how you help When you’re super clear on who you serve, how you help and what you offer, the more clarity people will have when they talk with you and check out your website. I know it sounds basic, but it’s important. For example, my dreamie clients are action-takers. I know that if someone comes on the call and says they find it hard to take action, they will not be a good fit for me. I know I will get frustrated because I love working with people that aren’t full of excuses, and aren’t afraid of doing some work. When you know this about yourself, you’ll find it much easier to recognise your own dreamie clients when you talk with them. When you’re clear on how you help and your services, it becomes clear whether you have the right services to offer your potential client on the call. If you don’t, then share that with them, and end the call. Again you could introduce them to someone that can help. Finally, here’s a quick reminder of the three top tips, and the bonus one of course: 1. Create a filtering system/selection process 2. Put your pricing on your website 3. Set expectations at the beginning of the call 4. Get clear on who/how you help XXX Thanks so much for tuning into Rock Your Fabulous Biz with me, Ruby McGuire, Business Mastery and Mindset Queen. How To Use The Law Of Attraction To Attract Dream Clients
Welcome to RYFB with me, Ruby McGuire, Business Mastery and Mindset Queen. This podcast is for you if you're a service-based business owner, a solopreneur. Book in a call and let's share a virtual cappuccino together! XXX Imagine how empowered you’d feel stepping into the space of a successful business Queen right now. What would that Queen do? Would she be tinkering around on social media? It’s more likely she’d be doing what’s essential to build her Queendom. This is what’s called, ‘Acting as if’ in the Law of Attraction world. Acting as if is a very powerful manifesting tool. Essentially you embody the person you want to be. Assume you’re the Queen of Procrastination right now. We’ve all been there! Who would you be if you didn’t procrastinate? Maybe it’s a past version of you, or maybe it’s someone you know that seems to hardly ever procrastinate. What traits could you take from your fabulous past self, or that person that seems to have it all together? Maybe your goal is to invite in more clients. What would a successful business owner be doing to invite in more clients? A lot of successful business owners are very savvy with their time and resources. Maybe they’d do some strategic individual outreach to potential clients, perhaps they’d keep track of their income and expenditure on a regular basis, or spend time on creating some high-quality products. This is your invitation to explore. What would you like to create? Who do you know that has already created this particular thing? (Whether it’s a behaviour, or a relationship, or a dream house) How could you embody that person now? Here’s a simple 4-step framework for you: 1. Know what you want - get crystal clarity 2. Reverse engineer what you want - I’ll explain that next 3. Play 4. Believe (anything IS possible - the only limit is your imagination) Let’s walk through each of the steps one-by-one. 1. Know what you want - get crystal clarity The Universe likes to play with you. If you don’t get absolute clarity about what you want, it’s likely that it will come to you in a different way. I’ve had some funny things happen to me, like the time I asked for some beautiful flowers to be delivered to my door, only to open the box that arrived and find it was for my neighbour and not me! I hadn’t been specific enough. 2. Reverse Engineering Choose something that you want to manifest, write it down Remember, be clear, or you’ll end up with something like my ‘flower’ outcome! Assume for a moment that you’ve already manifested your new dreamie clients If you’re struggling to get that idea in your mind, then you might have to suspend disbelief for now that it’s not possible for you. Who do you know that has already achieved this? Act as if you’re them. What do you think they’d have done to attract new clients? What tasks could you do to get similar results for your biz? Grab your notebook At the bottom of the piece of paper, write down how many new dreamie clients you want to get. Next, write down the steps before that had to happen in order for you to attract them. This is reverse engineering. Here’s a few things you might consider … Decide what packages you want to offer Fix that wonky link on your website Create a sales page Set up a referral scheme Ask past clients if they’d like to work with you Create some content that talks about what you do Send a newsletter offering your new services Practice your selling skills so that you are confident on the call with your potential dreamie client Sort your calendar so that the potential client can book easily for a call Ask them if they’d like to book a session with you Hold the call Sign up the new client 3. Play Make this a game. The Universe loves it when we are in a creative space of play, rather than grasping and trying to force things. How can you make this whole getting clients thing fun? Here’s a few ideas: Set yourself a mini target of people to reach out to Create some fun graphics for your content Challenge yourself to reach out people you’ve worked with before to work with you again Write a list numbered 1-5 with gaps for your client names Buy yourself some gold stars and create a reward chart 4. Believe (anything IS possible - the only limit is your imagination) This is my favourite bit. It takes you to the place of possibility. This isn’t just a hope and cross your fingers thing. This is about taking action, and then believing that “this or something even more fabulous” can come your way, because you’re raising your vibration. When you co-create with the Universe, magical things happen. Here’s a quick reminder of the simple 4-step framework: 1. Know what you want - get crystal clarity - Clarity is king, or in our case, Queen! 2. Reverse engineer what you want. What happens just before your amazing outcome? 3. Play - Make this fun, life doesn’t have to be super serious all the time! 4. Believe (anything IS possible - the only limit is your imagination) I’d love to hear how you get on. How To Use Oracle Cards To Generate Content For Your Business
Book in a call and let's share a virtual cappuccino together! XXX Have you ever thought of using Oracle cards in your business? I use them for all sorts of things now. I recently wrote a post about this over on the Coaching Tools Company blog, which you can read here. I share a story of how the universe thought it was funny to play a game with me, and kept giving me a topic I didn’t want to write about! I thought I’d share a few more tips and an example to get you playing with your writing. I use cards in my Queen of Business Mastermind each week. It’s a lovely way to start the meeting, it gives people a little shot of inspiration, and sometimes instigates some great conversations. I worked with a friend of mine many years ago, and because she was a friend it was quite hard to get out of the ‘helping’ phase. You know, where you want to offer ‘friend advice’. I knew this wasn’t what she needed, so I whipped my phone out and pulled a few cards on an app, and used this as the basis for coaching. She had some fabulous breakthroughs. Today I want to talk to you about using them to create content ideas. 1. Set an intention of what you want to create When I’m stuck with what to teach on a training call, or Facebook post, newsletter, or blog post, I simply get a card deck out and allow that to inspire me. So how do you do it? Sit with the cards in your hand, ask the universe to send you guidance on what you want to create Keep your dreamie client(s) in mind as you set your intention, that way you’ll get some clearer messages Shuffle the deck and pull three cards 2. Go through the messages and pull out some keywords that pop out at you As you flick through the cards you’ve pulled, you’ll want to notice which keywords/concepts pop out at you. Usually, your deck will have some extra wording that goes with the card. I don’t usually use everything that comes up. I just notice what resonates for me at the time. I’ll share an example of this with you soon. 3. Start writing Write whatever comes up for you around the keywords that popped out. Don’t filter, just allow yourself to free write. You might be surprised by how much actually comes up for you. Let’s pretend right now that I need to write a blog post. Here’s how the process works in action: Set Your Intention: I want to write a blog post about getting clients, but essentially the topic is around pricing Note Your Dreamie Client’s Perspective: I want my client to feel confident around the services they offer Pull Three Cards: You can just do one card, however, I find that three cards gives you juicier content (see footnote for cards I used): So let’s say I want to write a post about my Queenies (as I call them) getting clients, specifically around her pricing. My Queen doesn’t want to come across as needy, she’s just lacking confidence when she invites someone to buy from her. Let’s find out what cards come up (and no, these aren’t ones I’ve prepared earlier. I’m acting as if I’m really writing this as a blog post!) 1. Lion Spirit - Be generous of spirit Key messages: “You’ve been given the gift of pride and a healthy sense of worth to express your divine authentic self in a unique way.” “Take pride in your ability to serve from the heart.” “Many will benefit from the healthy expression of your unique set of gifts if you choose to work in partnership with Spirit.” If I was writing a post about this for you, based on pricing, I would be writing key headers around the card to get some creative juices flowing. I would then write the ideas as my blog post. Here’s what I mean; Unique offering: I would get you thinking about what parts of your services are unique, different to what everyone else is offering Self-worth: I would get you thinking about how your self-worth might relate to the prices you’re charging Years of experience: Building your confidence, I’d get you to consider how many years of experience, training, reading etc. you’d done around your topic area which you can then bring to helping your client as part of your package Benefits: I would help you recognise the benefits of working with you specifically Serving from the heart: I would get you to consider what additional value-added items you could add to your packages, i.e. meditations, checklists, worksheets, templates Partnership with the Universe: I would encourage you to think of intentions that you could set with the Universe to support you - bringing in a bit of manifesting magic! 2. Parrot Spirit - Watch Your Words Key messages: “Are you aware of what you’re saying to yourself and others?” “Parrot Spirit shows up as a reminder to heed the words that flow from your mouth, your pen and your keyboard.” Then, as before, I’d write some key headers. I’d ask myself here, “How does this relate to decision making around pricing?” That way, I’m always coming back to my original topic/intention for the post. Link back to self-worth: I’d reiterate how your words can affect your self-worth, and get you to think through how you can use the power of your words to help you feel more confident with your pricing Heed your words: I’d get you to start noticing where you need to improve what you’re saying, writing and typing 3. Deer Spirit - Take The Lead (reversed) Key messages: “Don’t let anyone bully you into something you’re uncomfortable with.” “You have solid footing if you stand your ground with grace.” “Today you need a tougher hide so that any compromises you make allow you to maintain your integrity.” Again, use your key headers to link to the overall topic. Take the lead: I’d be talking about how you being Queen of your business means that you need to take control of the sales conversation. I’d share how really knowing the benefits of what you’re offering will help you not to buckle if someone comes across a bit bullish Standing your ground with pricing: I’d explain that it’s much easier to stand your ground when you feel confident with your packages and pricing, and when you trust that if this particular client isn’t for you, then another one will come along that’s absolutely perfect for you. Compromising: I would talk about how compromising on your packages, i.e. discounting, will over time dent your self-confidence, and you’ll possibly kick yourself for not charging what your services are worth! Using oracle cards can really free up your mind, and help you to generate more creative ideas than you would if you just sat in front of your computer. It’s a way to stretch your brain into thinking slightly differently. I hope it’s been useful sharing how I use cards to write blog posts, training etc. I find it really helps me to come up with lots of different ideas that perhaps I wouldn’t have thought of if I’d have just stared at a blank page. Here’s a quick recap: 1. Set an intention of what you want to create 2. Go through the message and pull out some keywords that pop out at you 3. Start writing around those keywords and see what comes up As with any writing, aim to get out of your own way and trust the process. What’s the best that could happen? You may get a one-liner/paragraph that you could share on social media, or you might even end up with a fabulously creative blog post! I wonder, will you now play around with some oracle cards for your writing? If you do, drop me a note at [email protected] and let me know how it worked out for you. If you use them already, I’d love to know how they help your creative process. PS. Learn how to save hours of time and energy creating content in my Create Content Like A Queen Masterclass PPS. 7 Leadership Qualities You Need To Be Queen Of Your Business
XXX If you’re reading this, then take it as your sign that you’re meant to be stepping up as Queen of your business, the leader. Leading is about being confident, having a sense of surety about you. There are many different types of leaders. You can be autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire, direct, coaching, supportive, bureaucratic, to name just a few. There are also many different traits that you perceive a good leader has to have, i.e. integrity, compassion, vision, self-awareness, communication skills etc. In my Queen of Business Mastermind groups, we have a really fun session where the Queenies spend some time exploring the traits of a Queen, and then we define what skills and qualities they need to develop/embody. They choose who their Queen of inspiration is. It’s amazing how different everyone perception of being a Queen is so varied. [LINK] The beauty of running your own business is that you get to define the role. What characteristics do you think make a good queen? Here’s a list of some of the things I like to think make you a good Queen. 1. Queens are visionaries and influencers. You think strategically and are willing to try new ways of doing things. You inspire others to think and dream bigger. You are a trailblazer, not willing to always follow the crowd, but defining how you want to carve out your business and life. 2. Queens lead by example - You’ve spent time perfecting your craft, and act as an inspiration to others. You don’t just teach people what they should do, you do it yourself first, and then share your experiences of it. 3. Queens are committed. You’re committed to your business and the work it involves. You’re also committed to taking action, walking the talk, and being accountable. You know you will never be perfect (perfection doesn’t exist), yet keep being the best person you can be with your knowledge, skills and attributes. You have a winning attitude. 4. Queens act with integrity - You are trustworthy - You do what you say you are going to do, honouring your commitments. You speak your truth with kindness, even if it feels uncomfortable. You’re clear on your values, and what you will and won’t tolerate within your boundaries. You are authentic in everything you do. Part of this integrity is your willingness to be vulnerable, in order to connect with your people. While this may not come naturally, you keep developing the skills so that it becomes easier with time. You have high standards and know it’s better to under-promise and over-deliver. 5. Queens are strong decision-makers. You aren’t afraid to stand up for what you believe in - You are true to yourself. You make a decision and stick to it, knowing when to change the plan if it’s not working. You know you need to be decisive. Even if that decisiveness means going back to your best friend, mastermind group etc. to help you make a quick decision. You know you need to behave in a way that shows you as a leader, not a follower. That confidence sets you apart. 6. Queens believe in themselves and others - Your knees might be knocking, yet you don’t let that stop you. You push through your comfort zones. You know you have an abundance of tools and resources available to you. You might lack confidence from time to time, yet you do the inner work to overcome any of those obstacles that might get in the way. You learn how to build your confidence muscles. You don’t waiver when you speak, you are clear, succinct, decisive and authoritative. 7. Queens take responsibility - For your actions, for the mistakes you make. You don’t blame others, but take responsibility. You are the solution, rather than problem-focused, and as such you acknowledge failure, and then use the feedback to catapult you further forward. The beauty of all of these traits, and any that you believe you need as a Queen, is that you can adopt them. Your royal duty is to show your people by leading by example, being a model of transformation, sharing your experience, your hopes and dreams so that they can be inspired by you to be their best selves. Embody the Queen you want to be, allowing your skills to expand and change over time. You get to decide - What type of leader, aka Queen, would you like to be? PS. You don’t need to be a Queen on your own. If you want support, check out my Straighten Your Crown Sessions. Is Your Crown Too Heavy?
Welcome to RYFB with me, Ruby McGuire, Business Mastery and Mindset Queen. This podcast is for you if you're a service-based business owner, a solopreneur. XXX Sometimes, ruling your Queendom is hard work. It may seem like it’s easy, but the reality is that as a Queen your crown can become quite heavy at times, where it all feels a bit too much, and you’re not sure which direction you’re heading in. A heavy crown can create disillusionment with how things are going in our businesses. This is often due to the expectations we hold about it, and the expectations we put on ourselves. If you’ve bought into the ‘six-figure overnight success’ story, then that’s potentially going to create lots of feelings for you, when your business doesn’t have the same results. This is all about your journey. Let’s explore where you might be adding to the weight of your crown. What expectations are you putting on yourself? The online world is a funny place. It can make you feel a million dollars, where people start following you, or give you an incredible shout-out, and it can make you feel rubbish, when you perceive someone else as more successful than you, based on what they’re sharing or what you’ve read/heard. The reality is that it makes you feel what you choose for it to make you feel. You can take control of the stories you create in your mind about it. Your expectation might be that you should be further on in your business than you currently are. If you find yourself comparing, then that’s going to create a lot of expectation. As I said to one of my clients just this week, you might not even be as far on in business as that other person, or even want what they’ve created. Maybe you’re procrastinating on putting work out there because you feel it needs to be perfect, you worry what people will say about your content. You’re worried about their expectations. Perhaps your expectations are more client based. You’re taking on responsibility for your client’s results, and trying to fix them, when your role is actually to enable them to move forward. The responsibility for action lies with them. How are you limiting yourself by these expectations? Maybe you bought into the business story, that business is easy. The truth is that it is challenging, and amazing all at once. Ask any super successful business owner whether their business journey was always easy, and they’ll more than likely have a few anecdotes to share with you about obstacles they’ve had to overcome, both internally and externally. Perhaps you’re feeling overwhelmed. There’s a lot of noise out there online, we can suffer with information overload. Social media content can also trigger lots of emotion and comparison. You might be limiting yourself by staying stuck, not seeing a way forward, or seeing it, but not taking any action on it because you’re fearful of the possibility of judgement and rejection. Procrastination might be one example of this, not making decisions can be another. Are you refusing to see that there could be a better way than how you’re doing things? Maybe you’re hanging onto that programme that no longer serves you or your clients, it’s run its course, but you’re worried about letting it go because you’re afraid of losing potential business. Maybe there’s a part of you that you need to let go of - the one that’s fearful. By letting go, you’re allowing your true royalty to shine through. Notice how playing small is keeping you from being all that you can be, and preventing you from being an inspiration to your people. Let go of rigid beliefs of what’s possible for you Sometimes we get stuck in the familiar, it feels safe. How can you stretch and expand your comfort zones? Maybe there’s particular actions that you could take. You know what they are, but you’re limiting yourself based on your expectations. What could you do differently in the next week? Challenge yourself. You can choose to bring in fun and lightness to overcome the weight of your crown. What would your business be like if you allowed it to be more playful? For me, I love playing with the whole Queen idea, it makes leadership and business mastery so much more fun. It’s a great way to talk about mindset issues that are holding you back. Park those rigid beliefs for now and begin to open up to what could be possible for you. Allow yourself time and space to explore new ways of doing things. Be brave enough to take action. It can feel scary letting go of old beliefs. They’ve kept you safe. What if this new way of doing things, opens the door on your fortress, and allows a whole new Queen and Queendom to emerge? The result of which creates amazing opportunities for you. What’s your role as Queen? You’re wearing a crown (the symbol of responsibility, accountability and authority) As a CEO, aka Queen of your business, you need to lead by example, and show the way to your beautiful people. You need the confidence to know when something’s not working, to declare it and then to create something new. If you don’t have that confidence…yet, then ask someone else to tell you what they think you’re holding onto. Queens take leaps of faith. They create their Battle Plan, build their strategy, and surround themselves with a team of solid supporters. Sometimes the only way to grow, is to jump and allow everything else to work its way through. I like to set intentions, even when I don’t know the ‘how’ of how I’m going to make it happen. I simply trust my intuition, follow through on action steps that pop into my head, and that’s when the magic happens. What teeny tiny step could you take today to step into the better version of Queen you’re meant to be? You can decide, and choose, that today is the day you rule your realm in a different way. No Queen does it on her own. She has an entourage of support. You can get support from friends and family that you feel you can trust with your dreams and goals. You can hire someone to help you shortcut your journey, and get help creating a Battle Plan for your business. Release those expectations, let go of those rigid beliefs and step into the role of Queen. Take a leap of faith, ask for help, and trust that what you need will come to you. It’s time to release the weight of your crown! PS. You don’t need to be a Queen on your own. If you want support, check out my Straighten Your Crown Sessions. 5 Things You Need To Know To Be The Queen Of Outsourcing In Your Biz
Book in a call and let's share a virtual cappuccino together! XXX If you want to scale your business, then you need to learn how to outsource like a Queen. I’m going to share 5 simple tips to get you started. Before we get to the tips though, we need to talk about your mindset. When I first considered outsourcing, I thought it would cost me a fortune. I was working on a membership site for a new programme that I’d created, and had done about 80% of the back end on my website, but I couldn’t figure out how to get the training modules to release to clients, and that was a problem. I was stubborn back then, and I told myself that I would not be beaten by my computer, and I would figure it out. I’m not amazing with technology, but I’m not too bad either, so I thought I could learn how to do it. After two weeks of frustration, and I mean two FULL weeks, I decided to ask for help. I had a big bill in mind about how much it would cost, and when I got the bill I was gobsmacked. It took just 2 hours for my techie VA to sort out what had taken me two full weeks, and I hadn’t solved the problem. That was a big lesson to me. Imagine how many potential clients I could have been connecting with in that space of time. I wonder how much potential income I lost over that 2 weeks. You need to shift your mindset around: a) bringing in help - it’s okay to not be an expert at everything b) feeling that you have to be the one that does all of the work (even if you can do it!) and c) trusting that someone can support you, and do as good a job as you can. Once you’ve done that, then go through these tips to figure out how best to outsource. 1. Define your strengths What can only you do in your business? So there are lots of things you can probably do yourself, but it might not be the best use of your time. When I think about my own business, I know that only I can do my content. I’ve worked with many copywriters now, but they don’t quite get my message across in the way that I do. Even when I think they’ve done an amazing job, other people tell me that they know I haven’t written the sales page or whatever piece of copy it is, so it seems inauthentic. Because of that, I write my own social media content, blog posts, podcasts, articles, training, books etc. There are many things I can do, and even love to do - like create Canva images, do the itty bitty admin jobs (Yes, I love admin. I know, I’m weird!) You have to ask yourself though whether doing these small tasks are the best use of your time. You need to focus on your one main thing. My one thing is content creation/writing really. 2. What are your weaknesses? You need to understand what your weaknesses are. What are those things on your list that take you forever? I can’t do Zaps (these are from a programme called Zapier and they basically allow you to take payment, and then automatically send out the digital goods). I’ve tried, I have failed many times. I miss the last step, so I now outsource it. When you recognise your weaknesses, you’ll find it easier to know what to outsource. You’ll also enjoy running your business way more, because you’ll be doing more of the tasks you love doing, instead of being in that frustrated place, feeling like hurling your computer out of the window. Ask for the help. You don’t have to do it all on your own. Focus on your strengths. These are what bring you in the money! 3. Get really clear on what you need So, I know that I might not be able to do Zaps, but having spoken to a few people, I know that they don’t take long to set up if you have the know-how. By understanding that, I know that if someone says it will take 4 hours to set one up, they’re not the person I want to hire for that particular piece of work. It’s important to have an idea in your mind of how long a particular job should take, that way you aren’t wasting money. The other side of this, is that it saves you and your freelancer lots of time. Your freelancer isn’t constantly having to come back to you in order to understand what’s involved. Because you know what you need, you can then explain it succinctly to them, saving them time learning, and you time (and money) with unnecessary disruptions. Know what you need, or it can become costly. Truth Bomb: If your freelancer has to ask lots of questions, you’re not making yourself clear enough. My hubby shared a concept that sounds boring, but it’s great in practice! It’s a SOP - A Standard Operating Procedure. Simply put, it’s a list of all of the things required in a job - the step by step. What’s fabulous about SOP’s is you have all of the information saved for the job, so it’s easy to outsource. It’s also helpful if your VA (Virtual Assistant) changes career or is off sick, as you can simply share the SOP with the new person. You can even create SOPs for those infrequent jobs that you have to do. That way you don’t have to remember what you did, as it’s all documented. I just save my SOPs in Asana (Online project management programme) but I used to save them all in a Word document. Simples. 4. Time is your most valuable commodity You know this, but you need to really know this. When you’re thinking small, you’re thinking you can do things yourself. You wouldn’t get the CEO of a corporate spending hours trying to sort his/her email campaign. He/she would give it to another department to deal with. You are the CEO of your business, so step up. While you’re tinkering around on little projects, you could be bringing in additional income into your business. A Queen has a team of people around her to help manage her Queendom. She doesn’t do it all on her own. She knows she has to focus on the bigger things. I got a fabulous piece of advice a few years ago - I was advised to stick a note on my computer that said, “Action Producing Money”. This really helped me to focus on doing the jobs I’m best at, instead of being stubborn. I no longer need the post-it note, but I do remind myself of this advice on a regular basis. It keeps you focused. 5. Start small It definitely requires a mindset shift to outsource. It will feel scary, and perhaps even a little indulgent. If you want to scale your business though, you need to get support. You can’t do it all on your own. Start by outsourcing one tiny piece of work. Check out some of the low cost freelance websites, such as Upwork or Fiverr, and give one piece of work to someone else to do. Make the time you’re not working on that piece of work count. Maybe use the time to reach out to past clients, or potential clients, or create a new sales page. Whatever it is, take some action that produces money, or has the potential to produce money at least. I also have a client, Emma Ward, that runs Freelance Lifestyle. Her group is full to bursting of freelancers. If you need a freelancer, you can pretty much guarantee that you’ll find one in her group. Emma is absolutely lovely, she’s super helpful. Here’s a link to check it out. So there you have it, 5 tips to Outsource Like A Queen. 1. Define your strengths (know what only you can do) 2. Know your weaknesses 3. Get really clear on what you need 4. Know that time is your most valuable commodity - what else could you be doing? 5. Start small. And most importantly, work on your mindset. You’re a Queen, you don’t need to do it all, even if you can! Give yourself permission to get the support you need. PS. You don’t need to be a Queen on your own. Book in a call and let's share a virtual cappuccino together! XXX The one thing you need to start doing if you want a successful business I have a lot of clients tell me they are done with their mindset work. They tell me they’ve done lots of inner work and there’s nothing more they need to do. They say they just need to get on with the business stuff. I call bullshit on that. It doesn’t matter what level you are at in your business, there is always more mindset work to do. As Denise Duffield-Thomas says, ‘New level, new devil’. Our mindset is the biggest piece of the puzzle when it comes to creating success. There’s a graphic that goes around on social media with a picture of an iceberg. The tip of the iceberg shows our conscious mind stuff, above the water. The rest of the iceberg, that’s underneath the water, is all of the unconscious mind stuff. This is what owns you, unless you deal with it and do the mindset work! Your mindset monkeys will keep you under that water for as long as possible, as they think that’s the way to keep you safe. What they don’t realise is they are drowning you and stopping you from exploring the world. I was speaking with a good friend earlier this week, and we were saying how mindset has been the biggest thing we’ve had to work on in order to grow our businesses. You can learn all of the business tips, tricks and strategies in the world, but if you want to help people you need to have a strong mindset. If you don’t, when you jump on calls with clients your lack of confidence and self-belief will come across. You may shy away from taking action on certain areas of your business, because you find it hard to know what to work on first, or you doubt yourself about what you’re putting out there. You may find you dilute your marketing messages for fear that people will ‘find you out’, or judge and reject you. You are in fear of what others will think of you, so you’re not as authentic as you could be. Take the swear word I’ve used in today’s podcast. Years ago, I wouldn’t have used it. Do I swear? Yes, waaaaay more than I should, but do you know what? It’s who I am and because I’ve done the mindset work, I don’t actually care what people think now. If people don’t like that, then that’s okay. We are all like Marmite, some will love us, some won’t. (Side note: For those not familiar, with Marmite, it’s a yeast extract, a spread that you can use on toast, and people usually love it or hate it, there’s rarely an in-between like for it) Does this mean that I will be swearing like a trooper through all future posts? No, not at all, but you might find the odd expletive thrown into the mix. You may find that you end up over-giving because you’re afraid that people won’t want to buy from you, or you’re afraid to charge for your services. I know that’s something I’ve definitely done over the years, to the point of burnout. You have to remember that people aren’t buying your services in the moment, they’re buying all that you’ve learned over the years. So when someone works with me, they are getting all of the experience of my working in the corporate world of HR for 11 years, my work with hundreds of clients, all the training and personal development I’ve done, and my life experience too. I now own that I know my stuff, and that I can help my clients step up to be Queens of their business, but that didn’t come naturally. I had to work continuously on my mindset to realise this, and I still work on it daily, without fail. It’s like a meditation ‘practice’, with the emphasis being on the word practice. You have to practice it over and over again in order to improve. It takes courage to learn more about the way you think, and how it might be holding you back. It takes courage to take ownership and responsibility for your life and the part you may have played/are playing to create what you have right now. It takes courage to do the mindset work, it can be super painful at times, but it will be worth it in the end. Reclaim your power. Tell your mindset monkeys where to go and do the daily inner work. Not sure where to start, check out the show notes/the links at the bottom of this post to read more mindset posts. You are braver than you think. Remember that iceberg? When you do the mindset work, you’ll find those waters get very muddy and turbulent for a while, but the storms will pass and you’ll find that peace again. In fact, you’ll find a sense of inner peace that is there no matter what’s going on around you. So please don’t think you’re done with mindset work, it really will be the game changer for your business if you’re willing to commit to doing the work. Plus, you’re a much nicer person to know the more you do it. Well, I hope that’s right in my case anyway! Be The Queen With Knees Knocking, And Still Take Action! (Fear Is Okay!)
Welcome to RYFB with me, Ruby McGuire, Business Mastery and Mindset Queen. This podcast is for you if you're a service-based business owner, a solopreneur. Book in a call and let's share a virtual cappuccino together! XXX Be The Queen With Knees Knocking, And Still Take Action! (Fear Is Okay!) So you’ve decided to step up as a Queen. Hooray! Now comes the tough bit! Are your knees knocking underneath that beautiful Queen’s dress you’re wearing?! I get it, I feel like that too, a lot of the time actually. BUT, you cannot let fear hold you back. When you’re a Queen you will naturally have obstacles to overcome, it’s kind of one of the things that comes as part of the whole package of being a business owner. If you want to grow your Queendom though, you’ve got to figure out how to overcome those obstacles, fear or not. You’re a Queen - you don’t let obstacles get in your way. You know you have the power to work through your challenges, and any fears that might be holding you back. There is always more than one way to achieve the success you desire as a Queen. I can bet there have been many, many obstacles you’ve overcome over the years. You can draw on that strength to overcome challenges you’re facing right now and in the future. You can shatter any limiting beliefs with your sceptre, and get that crown of yours shining again in no time! Yes, you may have to get help to get creative to come up with a plan, but it’s all possible. I believe that when things are meant to be then everything will feel like it’s in alignment. If you’re hitting obstacle after obstacle, then it might be time to reflect on whether you need a different battle plan. Sometimes those challenges and detours can be the best thing ever in your business, as they help you to think creatively. Being a Queen means learning from repeated ‘failures’, disappointments and lessons, but often that’s when the magic happens! You reflect, learn and find other fabulous ways to grow your business. Very often, the biggest fear in your business is the one around bringing in money. You worry that you don’t have the sales skills to help convert clients, you worry that you won’t be able to pay your bills, you worry that you don’t have the services people want to pay for, the list goes on. One of the skills that really helped me work through my money blocks, and still does, is EDT, Emotional Dowsing Technique. It doesn’t matter what level of business you’re at, we all have more money blocks that can come up from time to time that need clearing. With money blocks, often fear is attached. I recently ran some EDT Money Block sessions, and it was amazing what came up for clients. Blocks that were hidden that they didn’t even know they had. Once they were cleared, the clients and money started to flow. Sometimes I know it can feel like you’re pushing water uphill, and nobody is listening to you. Keep singing your song, keep telling people about what you do, keep pushing through that fear. The consistency pays off. And remember to always bring a bit of fun into your biz, it’s the best way to save your sanity! Here’s three simple strategies to help you work through your fear: 1. Write down what you’re feeling fearful about Let’s work through some of the stories you might be telling yourself about your biz right now. Here’s a few common statements my clients share with me: “I have to work really hard to be successful.” “It’s challenging getting new clients.” “I find technology really frustrating.” “Sales conversations are awkward.” “I never have enough time to do what I want, or need to do.” “I take two steps forward and one back.” On their own, these statements don’t seem that powerful, but when you attach them to a story that’s fearful, which might lead to things like: • “I won’t be able to pay my mortgage.” • “I won’t have time to spend with my family.” • “People will judge me”, you can see how it can make you feel fearful. Just saying these statements out loud can remove some of the power the fear has over you, and you can then start to explore ways of moving through it. 2. Challenge Your Fear With Some Questions Taking this a step further, ask yourself a few questions around what you’ve put down. Challenge your thinking. Is it true? What evidence do you have around that fear? What could you learn that might make this all seem easier? Who could support you? What would be a better way of thinking about this, that would empower you rather than hold you back? 3. Use the Circle of Control/Influence Consider using Stephen Covey’s Circle of Control or Influence. If you haven’t heard of it, think of an archery target with three circles. The central circle - the bullseye, and the two outer circles. In circle one, the bullseye, you list all of the things that are within your control. In circle two, you list all of the things that you can influence. In circle three, the outer circle, you list all of the things that you can’t control. This is such a simple, yet amazing little tool for helping you to work through your fear. When you place your different areas of concern in the circles, you will be able to release some of the fear as you will realise there are only certain things within your control that you can actually manage or influence. So, let’s get that crown shining again. Clear the fear in your business, so that you can run your Queendom with confidence. Be the Queen with knees knocking, and still take action, knowing that fear is absolutely okay. On a side note, I have been in the place where I’ve literally had my knees knocking in a presentation when I was doing my HR degree, so when I talk about knees knocking I mean literally and figuratively. Before I go, let’s do a quick recap to shift that fear: 1. Write down what you’re feeling fearful about 2. Challenge your fear with some questions 3. Use the circle of control/influence to guide you PS. If you want to clear your fear, and other limiting beliefs around your business, while having some fun obviously, book a Dolly Magic Session (which is an EDT Session) with me. My clients are getting some amazing results and feeling on top of the world, just like the Queens they were born to be. Until next time, ciao for now! 5 Things To Do When Life Feels Uncertain
XXX 5 things to do when life feels uncertain... Do you find that you’re feeling quite fearful right now? With everything going on in the world it’s natural to feel unsettled. It’s a time to trust in the process of life. Yes, do the planning, the preparation and take the action, but then trust that everything is happening exactly as it’s meant to be. I’ve personally been going through a period of transformation, and I’ve been thinking about what it is I’ve been doing. I’ve realised for me this has been a time of 5 R’s. A time to ... Reframe One of the things I like to do, and do it all the time, much to the annoyance of people that like to complain - is to reframe. For example, I don’t like the restrictive feeling around the word, ‘Lockdown’, so it’s been renamed in our house. It’s now called a "Spring Retreat" Lockdown has such a negative vibe. Not for me! Reframe this new version of the world we’re currently in, start to notice how you can feel more positive about what’s going on. Maybe it’s a Spring Retreat for you too, maybe it gives you chance to learn some new things online, or dance, sing, play more. There will be some positives, if only you take the time to look for them. A time to ... Retreat You may have found yourself hiding away, and that’s okay. Perhaps you’ve been over cautious, worried what people might say if you’re out there promoting your business, when there are so many other things to be focusing on. It’s okay as a Queen to retreat, in fact I’d say it’s a vital part of running your Queendom. You will be an all round better leader when you take time to fill up your own goblet, before helping others fill theirs. (My ‘Queen’ role model/inspiration is Medieval, hence the goblet. No chopping off heads in my world though!) As a leader, aka a Queen, you need to be pro-active and not re-active. You also need to know when it’s time to slow things down. I’ve been in a place of full stop, never mind slowing down, when it comes to my blog posts. I’ve been trusting I’ll have the right thing to say at the right time. I knew I needed to retreat, rather than step in to sharing too much too soon. When you retreat, new ideas come forward. You’ll know when it’s time to come out of your safe space, invite in optimism and start planning for brighter things to come. It’s a time to ... Recharge I said in a Facebook post recently, that sometimes you need to step back to step forward, particularly when you’re a Queen. How often do you take the time to recharge? One of my coaches helped me realise I hadn’t taken a break for nearly two years, so I took a week off, and I have another week off planned very soon. The step back allows you to review what’s working, what’s not, and to replenish yourself. I always say that if you were working for someone else, you’d take time out for holidays, days off etc. Now is the perfect time to restore your soul, to do all of those things that light you up. What lights you up? Lots of people are cleaning, decorating and gardening. All wonderful things to do, but what about you? What do you need to recharge you? For me it’s all things creative, card-making, crochet, doodling, Bullet Journalling, gardening and plittering (what they call pottering in Scotland). Add in some beautiful walks in nature, Qi Gong, dancing, HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), lots of reading, some standard journalling and of course many, many cups of cappuccino. That all fills me up, so that I’m ready to serve again. It’s a time to ... Reflect While these times are weird, for sure, they are also the perfect opportunity to spend some time reflecting on what really matters in your life and your business. As a Queen you want to be your best when you put yourself out there, and that means taking great care of yourself. We’ve just been watching the second half of the New Amsterdam series (a hospital drama). A Trauma Surgeon has just been introduced to the series, and he was sharing how taking time for his self-care is the best way he can show up for his patients. It was initially frowned upon by a colleague, until he explained why it was so important. While it might seem counter-intuitive, sometimes it’s absolutely THE number one best thing you can do to serve your clients in the best way. Be gentle and kind to yourself, celebrate how far you’ve come and all that you’ve achieved, both internally and externally. Be mindful of the words you choose right now, whether that’s for you or others. While you’re probably used to working from home, things may have changed for you, particularly if you have young family to think about, or perhaps you’re spending more time with your other half. Be kind to yourself as you go through a period of adjustment. Thankfully, my hubby and I get on very well, so we are really enjoying the downtime together. I say downtime, he gets a list of daily jobs to do, I kick butt at home too, haha. Don’t worry, I do my fair share as well! As part of my transformation, I’ve been doing some work with two lovely coaches - Debi Haden & Janine Kathleen Shapiro, and here are two key things I’ve learned from them over the past couple of weeks, one of the areas we’ve worked on was another one of my 5 R’s. It’s a time to ... Release Debi: Release anything that no longer serves you. If it’s a ‘should’ or ‘must’, then ask yourself why you’re doing it. Janine: What parts of your life feel heavy? These are things we already know and, like me, you possibly even work with clients on this, but sometimes we need others to help us move forward. When you go a lot deeper on this, you find out so much more about yourself than you expected. As a Queen, you don’t need to hold onto things that don’t serve you. Banish them from your Queendom entirely and free up some space for lots of fabulous new things to come in. You won’t need to feel afraid of letting things go, when you trust. You may well have heard the phrase of the opposite of fear being trust. It never quite resonated with me. I realised recently, that for me the opposite of fear is trust. Trusting the process of life, trusting that everything happens exactly as it’s meant to, trusting the universe to provide. Fear dissipates when you have this level of trust. The universe is still supporting you, the universe is still listening, there is still no limit to all that you can experience, even right now. Especially right now, as you take the time to reframe, rest, recharge and reflect - exploring more about who you are and what you want in your life. Maybe you’ll also realise that you need a retreat too. Remember the universe has a plan for you, are you listening? Do You Really Want What You’re Chasing?
XXX Have you ever set a goal that you reach only to find it isn't really what you thought it would be? This can happen so often in business. One big thing that comes up with a lot of my clients is where they think they want a particular type of business and then wish they'd done something completely different. It can be easy to fall into the trap of doing a business to 'chase the money', but if that chasing the money doesn't bring happiness, you may as well go and get a 'proper job'. Today we're going to do some funky goal setting. Let's make those goals exciting and enticing. Whenever I chat with clients/potential clients I take them through 5 steps to getting clarity around their business model. I start by asking them to really connect with what they are passionate about. We then explore if their passion matches their skill set and then we've got a better foundation to work from. So often people start building programmes for who they think they 'should' work with, instead of doing the ground work to ensure they have the passion in the first place and are really clear on who their dreamie clients are and what they're struggling with. It's time to do a bit of FUNKY goal setting. F is for FABULOUS Your goal needs to totally excite you and I mean really have you feeling exhilarated inside. You’re not going for mediocre here, you’re going all out and aiming as high as you can, stretching up on your tiptoes to see how amazing your future can be, once you can just squeeze outside of your comfort zone. If it’s not feeling fabulous, why? What can you do to tweak it so that it thrills the life out of you? Who do you look at and think, ‘I wish my life was like that’? Use those feelings to guide you in your decision to set goals. Sometimes jealousy can be a good indicator of what you really want. If you're jealous of someone else, it can show you what you really desire. What will it mean to you to achieve this goal? How will life/you be different when you reach it? That little nagging voice saying to you, ‘Yeah, well this is all well and good but you didn’t make it last time’, or ‘How do you know it will work?,’ or ‘It’s too big a goal for you, you don’t deserve it.’ Kick those naughty mindset monkeys into touch. That’s your fear talking and the sooner you work through it the quicker you will realise your goals. U is for UNSHAKEABLE • Be REALLY clear about what your goal is, use all of your senses to figure it out. What will it look like, feel like, smell like, taste like? • Your goal needs to be exactly that... YOUR goal, not someone else’s goal for you • Thinking about your role model what it is that they do consistently that gets them that life that you desire? • Plan out the steps you need to put into place to make sure this absolutely happens • Write down what/who would get in your way of achieving your goal • Be real here, if you want to be an international swimmer and you’re scared of water it may take a bit longer to get there, but it doesn’t mean you can’t - it’s all about small changes • Build in contingency plans – life doesn’t always go according to plan, we might be too tired/busy/poorly so build in that extra time to cover it so that you still remain on course • Assume it’s yours, you’ve achieved it! Trick your mind into thinking it’s already yours and you will be amazed at how things change N is for NOW ACTIONS speak louder than words • There’s no point just writing down your goals (did I say that written goals are much more effective) and taking no action. You have to DO something about them • Yes there may be challenges along the way, but these can provide you with valuable feedback and opportunities to grow • Stop putting it off. It may feel scary but when you’re looking back at your life when you’re 80 which was worse, fear or regret? • An overused (but still good) quote is that a dream without a deadline is just an idea, so once you’ve set your goal, made it unshakeable, work on when you are going to get it done by and set some mini steps to get there. • Go out there and make it happen... Start NOW K is for KEEP - KEEP AT IT • Every single day I want you to take one small step towards your goal, even if only 10-15 minutes • Commit now, ‘I will spend 10-15 minutes every day working towards... / growing my business’ etc • Sometimes the hardest part is just starting – by doing a small amount each day it gets easier because your confidence grows and your momentum kicks in • Often once you start you find yourself doing more and more because you enjoy it • Build in accountability – who will ensure you stay focused / check in with you to see how you’re doing / help you work out what’s next? • Create a network of support around you so that on those days you want to give up someone will be there cheering you on to keep going (friends are great, but it’s actually better if it’s a business buddy / colleague / coach or action group) So keep at it, every single day and you will start to see results! This is the YES of commitment. You’ve set your goal, it’s FABULOUS, it’s unshakeable, you’re going to take action NOW, you plan to keep the momentum going and it’s time to 100% commit and say YES ! I CAN and WILL do this. If you want things to stay the same then do nothing. If you want things to change commit now, to yourself (in writing if it helps). You can set as many amazing goals as you like, but if you don’t commit to following through on them they are just meaningless lists. Commit to your goals and set your intentions and then watch the magic happen. Is it FABULOUS? Is it UNSHAKEABLE? What can you start NOW? How will you KEEP the momentum going? Say YES, commit to your goal 100% With all of this in mind, check in with yourself. Is this really a goal you want to be chasing? If not, then that's what you've got to change first. Are You Ready To Take The Lead, As Queen, Of Your Biz?

Book in a call and let's share a virtual cappuccino together! XXX The idea of being a leader, aka Queen of your business, might terrify you! I believe that when you read a message, you’re reading it at the perfect time, so on that basis, I believe that if you’re receiving this message right now, it’s your time to step up as a leader, a Queen of your business, whether you feel ready or not. It’s likely that you already have a tribe/community/following of people that look up to you, and enjoy what you do. They are waiting for you to really lead them. You have everything you need to be a Queen right now. It’s just a simple decision. It doesn’t mean there won’t be hard work and future challenges involved, but the decision itself to lead is an easy one. If you’re ready to step up as a Queen, then decide today to do that, and then explore how. You may not feel you have the knowledge/experience yet to lead your Queendom. Queens of Business develop their knowledge and skills, so that they can stand in front of their people as strong leaders. Start by sharing your stories, your vulnerabilities, your strengths. You’re doing what you do because it’s part of your life purpose. Don’t worry about being the expert right now, lead anyway. A bit like preparing for having kids, you’ll never be ready! Instead of using your mind to worry about how you’re not ready, use it to develop the skills you need to become the best Queen you can be. Show your people that you can be trusted to lead them. Be honest about the skills you need to develop. I read a book a while back (sorry, I can’t remember which one it was!) It said that if you “read for one hour a day on your topic area, within a year you'll know more than 90% than others. Google it, research it, find out who leaders, movers and shakers are, read what they say and study RSS feeds.” What that tells you is that leadership is something you can learn. You can model others’ behaviour, learn all about your topic, and become a master at what you do. You have the potential to become a great Queen, regardless of where you’re at right now. It’s just a skill you can develop. As you step into the role of Queen more and more each day, you’ll slowly become the Queen you want to be. This isn’t about being dishonest, it’s about stepping up and building your Queen skills along the way. One of my clients was talking about being a little girl and wanting to wear her princess dress, and that despite it feeling too big, she still wore it anyway. This is like stepping up as a Queen in your business. The dress might not feel like it fits ... YET, but over time you’ll evolve, grow and develop your skills, and you’ll realise how far you’ve come. The dress (and crown) will fit! You have so much to offer in your business. Now is the time to step up. Use your amazing resources to teach, motivate and inspire your dreamie clients and build your beautiful Queendom. If you’re not sure where to start, book a Queen call with me and let me help you pull together a fabulous battle plan so that you know exactly what you need to do. There is so much you can create and attract into your business, you may just need another Queen like me to help you pull together a solid plan to make it happen. As the lovely Adrienne Dorison recently said in one of her newsletters, it’s not all about just bringing in sales into your business, there are other things you need to do. I believe that sales, of course, are incredibly important, but you also need to know how to lead your community as you bring them in. That way you get to win and keep your dreamie clients. As A Queen You Need To Practice Patience To Grow Your Business
Welcome to RYFB with me, Ruby McGuire, Business Mastery and Mindset Queen. This podcast is for you if you're a service-based business owner, a solopreneur. Book in a call and let's share a virtual cappuccino together! XXX I mentioned in my last podcast that my version of a Queen is a medieval one. When you think about how things were communicated in those days, it could take days to get a message through to someone. Sometimes it was on foot, other times on horseback. There was no super quick email or social media platform to get the word out. You wouldn’t have been able to go online and order something with next day delivery. You’d have to wait. We’re not used to waiting for things now, so it makes us even more impatient wanting our businesses to grow quickly overnight. As a Queen you need to practice patience. You might share your message, but it might not be received immediately. The timing might be out, or you might need to get in front of different people who love what you do. I’ve been playing a game recently around delayed gratification. Whether it’s delaying eating a piece of chocolate, drinking yet another vanilla cappuccino (Yes I know, I need to cut back) or buying something. I’m enjoying playing with the feeling around excitement, spending time looking forward to adding that thing into my life. It’s a really interesting experiment, give it a go! You may find it harder than you think because we’re so used to everything being instant. Building your Queendom takes time. Building your Queendom takes work. Building your Queendom takes consistency. The project you’re working on today, this week, this month, could be the one that creates amazing success further down the line, but we give up because it isn’t happening quick enough. We want faster results. I know when I first started out as a coach I wanted to help people get transformation in one standalone session. I can do that now, but I know that the magic happens when there are many sessions, via 1:1 or group, because transformation takes time. As one of my lovely coaches reminded me recently, caterpillars don’t turn into butterflies overnight. There’s a process. There will be many a battle plan that you set up that doesn’t give you the outcome you hoped for. That’s okay. There will be many a project that you wish would create that ‘overnight’ success, but projects take time. Think of a seed, it doesn’t grow instantly, it needs attention, sun, rain, nurturing, yada yada. It’s growing underneath the surface, you just can’t see it yet. Maybe that’s where you are with your business. You’re doing the work, but there’s only a tiny sprout of growth showing. That’s okay - be patient. Accept where you are today in your business. Know that as a Queen you can choose to be patient, and trust that every action step you take (providing you design and execute your battle plan well) will take you nearer to creating your next level of business success. And luckily, unlike our medieval Queen, you do have tools at your disposal that can help you communicate your message much quicker! Keep practicing patience Queenie, you’ve got this! You Need To Change How You Do Business When You’re A Queen
XXX When you step into the role of Queen you need to change how you do business. You can no longer be all things to all people. You can’t constantly give away your time, without being paid. You’re running a business dahlinks. You need to set clear boundaries around what you will and won’t do. Having a really solid business model will serve you well, so you are really clear about what you will and won’t take on. The other thing that will help you as a Queen is learning how and when to use the word, ‘No’! When you run a service-based business, you want to be of service, and that’s great. But at what cost? In order to master your business as a Queen, you need to make sure that you’re smart with your time, strategic with your action, and focused when you do work. Sometimes you need to set boundaries for yourself, as it’s not others who are the problem, it’s you! You’re a Queen, but you’re also trying to do every single job in your business, and all that leads to is burnout. So, if you're sitting at your desk or on your sofa answering emails at 11pm at night , you're training your clients to expect you to be available 24/7 (figuratively, not literally). If you don't want to work at 11pm at night, then something has to change. It starts with not replying to emails at 11pm at night (unless you're a night owl and that's when you want to work). Another example that a lot of my Queenies (clients) love is that I only work Monday to Thursday as a general rule. No evenings, no weekends. It’s something I chose to do a few years ago. It means that when I do work, my time is very focused, and it means I get a life outside of my business too. Boundaries. Now you might be thinking that if you set boundaries with your clients you'll lose them, or they'll fall out of love with you. The reality is some of them might, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't set them. Some people actually like boundaries - and people respect you when you have defined lines that cannot be crossed. Sometimes it can help to have a few phrases to hand, whether it's a reply to an invite to work with someone else, or a client approaching you with a problem. Here's a few ways you can set simple boundaries: 1. “I no longer do free work, but you can check out my free resources here...” [add link] 2. “I only do paid speaking gigs. If you want to know the kind of topics I deliver, here’s a link to my Speaker page...” [add link] 3. “I only work Monday to Thursday, and don’t work evenings or weekends. "It's really kind of you to think of me. It's not something that feels like a good fit for me but I could put you in touch with ...." Here's a few reasons why you want to consider setting boundaries: You are a Queen, you need to retain control of your kingdom (not in a ruthless way, but so you feel like you’re mastering your business instead of others ruling it) You will be nicer to know! (Grumpy Queens aren’t great to be around. Working too hard is no good for anyone) You will get time to do things you love (ooh, what could you do with that extra time?) You will feel more confident (knowing that you are honouring yourself, your family/friends and also teaching your clients/others how to be strict with their own boundaries) So give boundary setting a go! If you work on your boundaries, you're going to have to re-train your clients so they understand what is/isn't acceptable to you. It's tough, not for the faint hearted, but it's oh so liberating! And hey, you’re a Queen, you CAN do this! Action This Week: Spend some time thinking about the boundaries you need to set in your business. Where are you giving your time away? Where are you overworking? What needs to change? Make the changes and then you’ll have time to do your royal duties. Want to work more on boundaries? What's Your Definition of A Queen?
XXX As I shared in my podcast last week, I'm going to be talking to you about becoming Queen of your business. I’ve been running my own business for many years now and don’t know about you, but I’m tired of seeing everyone in the online world sharing their ‘blueprint’ for overnight success. The truth is, there is no magic solution, you’ve got to put the work in honey! If you’re anything like me, then running a business has triggered every limiting belief you’ve ever had (and those you didn’t even know you had) For me, it’s been a rollercoaster journey of both excitement and fear. What’s been a game-changer for me and my clients is working on mindset as well as business. (You’re amazing by the way, not many people can do what we do!) What I’ve learned over the years in this long-term game of business, is that you need to step up, to be a leader of your business, a Queen. I want to help you to start thinking like a Queen of your business, but what's your definition of a Queen? Now my version of a Queen is a medieval one. My Queen is dressed in all of her refinery, beaded gowns, stunning gem filled crowns and exquisite pieces of jewellery. She has a presence that can't be unseen, she is confident in what she does. She seeks counsel, and has an entourage of support but ultimately makes brave decisions and can be relied upon to lead her people. In one of my Queen of Business Mastermind groups, I asked this question and got so many different replies. One client couldn't get Queen Elizabeth out of her head. Another had Beyoncé as her Queen. Someone else was thinking more about Daenerys, the Dragon Queen in the Game of Thrones. When you become a Queen of your business, you get to choose what type of Queen that is. When I wrote my profile on LinkedIn here's how I defined a Queen: One that takes strategic and brave action, not just any action. One that has clear boundaries, and isn’t afraid to make tough decisions. One that stands up in front of her people, despite any fears going on underneath. One that ditches the self-doubt, knows her worth and owns it. A Queen that shows up, no matter what. Okay, so that's some of the things that I think of when I think of a Queen. I also think of things like: Strategic Vision Authenticity Emotional Intelligence Problem Solving Managing a team Decisiveness And so much more. All topics we'll be talking about in future podcasts. Today, I invite you to write a list of all of the qualities you believe you need as a Queen. I'd love you to drop me an email telling me what you come up with. I've popped my email in the show notes for you. ([email protected]) Today, decide to be the Queen of your business, to create a success mindset and to build your royal empire one step at a time. You've got this! XXX Thanks so much for tuning into Rock Your Fabulous Biz with me, Ruby McGuire, Business Mastery and Mindset Queen. I hope you enjoyed the show. I'm Changing How I Do Business
XXX If you read my blog post a little while ago, you’ll know I was struggling for a while with direction in my business, and I guess life in general since my ‘little’ princess left home to go to university. I recently shared this on my blog, but haven't shared it on my podcast, and now it's time.. https://www.rubymcguire.com/what-to-do-when-you-start-to-hate-social-media/ I spent a lot of time working on what I wanted, and I have done a lot of soul searching this year. For the first part of the year, I created a 1:1 90-day programme where I took my clients through a specific process of building/growing their business and working on mindset blocks. Everyone loved it. It was really great fun, but where I was working with 14 clients a week, it started to take its toll, especially where some of those calls were 90-minutes and more. I found I had little time left in the week, which kind of wasn’t what I wanted to create, albeit fun. Be careful what you wish for! So back to the drawing board, over and over again! Have you ever been like that in biz? I seem to reinvent things every few years. Someone told me once that I’m like Madonna, I just like to reinvent myself. So what’s next? I realised that the key things I love are training, coaching and mentoring, so they weren’t going anywhere. I also realised that I love working with groups. I love the energy, the connection, the banter and the results people get when they work together. I’ve been batting off new potential projects left, right and centre, where I want to really keep my business model super simple. I’ve closed my Rock Your Visibility group programme and cleared the decks for these 2 things: Queen of Business Mastermind Groups (Unique groups of 8 women who want to become Queens of their businesses) Manifesting Magic Club (The Law of Attraction programme I run with my very good friend, Geraldine Kelly) I’ve created many training programmes over the years, and rather than retire them because I believe they do still have value, I’ve decided to offer them all on my Resources page so that people can pick and you can choose what you need for your business. A lot of the programmes are great if you're fairly new to business and/or are working to a budget. Having moved to Scotland, I’d wondered whether I would run some local workshops in the area. I’ve made the decision not to do that either. I realised I want to ‘live’ up here, not ‘work’ up here, and just enjoy my time in the community instead. I may do some freelance training and speaking but not working 1:1. Lots of change, but it feels really good for right now. I can’t say I won’t change my mind again in the future. Hey, I’m a woman, I get to change my mind whenever I like ;) I think it’s a good thing that we evolve as business owners, don’t you? If you’ve known me for a while, then you’ll know I love to KISS - Keep It Simple Sweetie, and I realised I wasn’t doing that. With this new way of working, I will be. Going forward I’m going to be talking about you being a Queen of your Business, so while visibility is obviously important, it’s going to be one of the pillars that I work with, rather than the main thing. My focus is going to be about business mastery, leadership, mindset and manifesting with the Law of Attraction. You're essentially the CEO aka Queen of your business. I'm going to hep you feel and behave like one. I'll be sharing how to uplevel - your mindset and your business. You need to create a success mindset if you want to succeed, and you need the leadership qualities of a Queen and you to step up as a Queen to be seen. If my message no longer resonates with you, then I completely understand if you want to unsubscribe from my show, and I wish you every success with your business going forward. I do hope you'll hang around though I’ve been asked if I’ll still work with guys, and the answer is ‘yes’. It will just be with short, sharp 1:1 laser coaching sessions though, as my client base is 95% female, hence creating the Queen of Business groups. My focus is going to be mainly group work, with the odd 1:1 session on top of that, rather than how I have been running things. I’m still figuring it all out, but over the coming months, I’ll be shifting how I talk about things with a focus on being a Queen of your business, creating a success mindset and using Law of Attraction in your business and life. I'm looking forward to this exciting new part of my business journey, and sharing some different content with you. Visibility will still play its part, as I believe that's vital for us as business owners. Here's to a fun new chapter of Rock Your Fabulous Biz! I hope you'll be joining me. Do This To Create Real Focus In Your Business Each Week
Do you find that sometimes you're super productive and then other times there seem to be a million and one things drawing your attention in different directions? Maybe your distraction is checking in on emails, you can't avoid those little red pop up notifications catching your eye, or you get caught up in social media. I have a mantra for this year: "Make the plan. Stick to the plan!" It's way too easy to get sucked into other projects/opportunities that take you away from your overall goals. I've had a few things that have really helped me keep control over what I'm doing. 1. I read The One Thing by Gary Keller - a fabulous book. No guesses for what the focus is on in this book! You could argue that you don't need to read it really as it's just all about focusing on one thing, however, it's totally worth a read. It really shifted my thinking around how I work day to day 2. I read another book called The 12 Week Year by Brian Moran - This was a game changer for me. It's basically where your work year is divided into 12-weeks. Now I can't get my around there being 4 years in 1 year that they talk about in the book, but I do work now in 12 week blocks. I LOVE the short, sharp focus of goal setting and focused projects during that time. Week 13 is for review. As a result of all of the above I create super strict boundaries for my work now. I only work on 3 different areas at a time; 2 business and 1 personal usually. If you want to get ahead in your business here's a super simple 7-step strategy to keep that focus: 1. Spend some time planning Plan out what you'd like to achieve in 12 weeks (If you're not sure what your goals are check out my Coaching Tools Company blog post where I share how to create goals in 90-minutes or less. 2. Decide what your top 3 priorities are and work in 'Espressos' - My version of sprints If you've not heard of sprints, they are where you set really clear goals for a 2-week block of time, and then take action to achieve them. Having short blocks to work within keeps the motivation and momentum going, rather than feeling overwhelmed. I personally don't call them 'Sprints'. I'm not really sporty, and I like coffee so mine are called Espressos of course! Thanks to Sophie Jewry for coming up with that name for me! I also find it a bit challenging doing a 2-week block as I find I do less in week one and then panic in week 2 where I'm so behind lol, so my Espressos are all a week each. 3. Each day decide what your top 3 priorities are (Your MITs - Top Most Important Tasks. I learned about these from Leonie Dawson many years ago, but I think they might have originated from Stephen Covey. Let me know if you know the original source. Always make sure your 3 priorities help you achieve your overall 12-week plan. 4. Block out time in your diary for each of those 3 priorities and work ONLY on those priorities. I learned about time blocking many years ago from my friend, Geraldine Kelly Once you've hit your 3 priorities you can move onto the next ones. 5. Add in a buffer for unexpected eventualities We can't always guarantee something won't come up so add in some buffer time (and no, that buffer time is not for you to watch more cat videos on Facebook, teehee!) Getting really good with your boundaries will help you with this one though. I've got lots of articles over on my blog around boundaries. -Are You Being Wishy Washy With Your Boundaries? -3 Ways To Say No To People Who Want To Pick Your Brains For Free 6. Review your progress at the end of the day. What worked? What didn't? What can you do differently tomorrow? 7. Spend a few minutes planning out your next day It's way too easy to get distracted at the start of a new day. By planning in advance you're ready to hit the ground running. If you decided to have a play with this super simple 7-step strategy to help you keep your focus, let me know how you get on. I'd love to hear from you. If you want to know what it's like to work with me 1:1, book a Crack-It Call where I'll work with you for 20-minutes to help you crack one area of your business. You'll be amazed at what we can resolve in just 20-minutes together. Find out more here. Lead By Example
To become that go-to-expert you need to lead. The funny thing with becoming the go-to-expert is that you won't get a badge or certificate telling you that you've made it. It's just one of those things that others say about you. What you can do though is step into the space of being a leader. That can feel a bit scary so here's a few tips to get you started: 1. Build your confidence muscles – Don’t waiver when you speak, be clear, succinct and decisive, authoritative 2. Do as I say, not as I do – There is no point saying one thing and doing another, if you say you do something follow through on it. 3. Be a good communicator - think about the message you are conveying; What is your language like? If you’re working with corporate people you don’t necessarily want to be using things like lol. I was actually challenged myself on this one by a leadership coach who said I shouldn’t be using words like fabulous and lol, but when I don’t I don’t feel as though I’m being authentic. I often make little jokes and I need people to know that they are exactly that, by adding that little lol I feel as though I can connect with my audience better. It’s semantics, but for some of your ideal clients it’s not going to be the right thing to say, so be aware of the type of clients you’re trying to attract, while still keeping your authenticity – I know – a fine balance. If you swear and you think your audience won’t be offended by that then carry on. Hands up, I do swear. I wish I didn’t, but the reality is that I do, but I don’t want that to be part of my communication so it would definitely not be part of my strategy. That doesn’t mean you can’t though, again think about your own audience. 4. Your energy needs to be positive – people don’t want to hear about your doom and gloom messages, you need to be inspiring, upbeat and motivating. Share those challenging life stories only when there is a lesson that can be passed on from them. If I kept banging on every day about having a sore back you’d soon get sick of it, the same applies to your clients too. Keep that positive energy alive. It doesn’t mean don’t share if you’re poorly or something’s happened, this is the over sharing I’m talking about here 5. In your communications be authentic – in EVERYTHING you do. If you find it difficult just keep practicing, it does get easier with time, and also makes life a lot easier as you don’t have to pretend to be something you’re not. 6. Be a professional, have high standards - Under promise, over deliver, honour your commitments, all of these things will help you to lead by example. 7. Share, educate, answer questions. When I was on one of our group calls I was asked about PR, I could have just answered on the call as I did, but I wanted to help more and as it might be a question that comes up again I thought it would be helpful to create a PDF around it. This is where you can share what you know with others, and add value in the process. 8. Challenge yourself– Take action, walk the talk, be accountable. You will never be perfect, there may even be things you teach that you need to work on yourself, like me with my perfectionist traits, but keep being the best version of you that you can be 9. Be decisive – Leaders need to be clear and decisive. Even if that decisiveness means going back to your best friend, mastermind group etc. to help you make a quick decision –you need to behave in a way that shows you as a leader, not a follower. That confidence will set you apart, even if your knees are knocking underneath you! So there you have it. Some simple ways to step into being a leader and being viewed as a Go-To-Expert. What's your favourite tip for stepping into a leadership role? PS. If you want to know what it's like to work with me 1:1, book a Crack-It Call where I'll work with you for 20-minutes to help you crack one area of your business. You'll be amazed at what we can resolve in just 20-minutes together. Find out more here.

Why Are You Really In Business?
If you want to run your own business you need to figure out your WHY. Here's a list of questions to get you thinking. No need to write them down, they'll be over on my blog post and listed in the show notes here too. Why do you want to do this particular type of business? (think about what lights you up about what you do) What do you want to be known for? If someone was promoting you on a TV show what would your line of work be? If an article was written about you in a magazine what would the magazine be? What types of clients do you want calling you? (describe what they’re like) What will be the benefit for you in building a thriving business - physically, mentally, emotionally, financially? What do you want your business values to be? Who would your dreamie clients be? What lifestyle are you aiming to achieve with your business? How famous are you? (magazines, TV, radio, podcasts, newspapers, books?) What are your long term intentions for your business? (global domination, sell, retire?) Where do you want your life/business to be in 5 years, 2-3 years, 1 year? How do you feel? What other questions do you think you need to ask yourself? (Add in your own questions if you want to) Why is it important to help people? If your first answer is, “because I like to help people” or “I want to help people feel more confident” – not enough. WHY? Check out a great video called Start With Why by Simon Sinek over on YouTube so that you understand how knowing this can be a huge driver for you and your business. In the video you’ll learn about the golden circle. My why is to rid the world of grumpy people. We all know the power of coaching. By helping more business owners stay in business more people’s mindsets will be changed. The more people create the lives they love the happier they become. Less grumpy people – ta-da mission accomplished! Here's a fun little exercise you can play to get your dream big juices flowing. Before we start though, there are rules: No checks on reality here – I want you to forget where you are now and dream big for how you want your business and lifestyle to be in the future. Put a check on any limitations you try to put on yourself. Forget limitations like time and money. Others out there have achieved their dreams, the only thing that will stop you is your thinking! DAY ONE:Write questions on index cards / whiteboard / post-it notes / get out your coloured pens! Get creative. (One question per card) Put them up around your home, by the toaster, on the fridge, in the bedroom etc. Keep a pen beside them and as you come across the questions throughout your day try and add answers to them Leave the cards up for 24 hours – let the ideas percolate DAY TWO: After 24 hours take the notes down, leave it another 24 hours before you go back to them DAY THREE: Shuffle the cards, sit down with a cuppa in the garden or a coffee shop and read them through. Is there anything you want to add? DAY FOUR: Read the cards again and then shut your eyes and visualise what it will be like when you have these things in your life and business. Once visualised make a note of anything that might come up DAY FIVE: Start to put together a vision board or a written plan of what your new goals are So no chasing other people's dreams, or dreams that will disappoint you once you get them. Understanding your WHY sounds simple – it can actually take AGES! It’s a really challenging thing and will require you to dig deep. You may not get it straight away but over the duration of this programme I want you to keep checking in on it ************* Remember to check out my Visibility Quiz to find out whether you’re a Visibility Lady, Countess, Princess or Queen.
