90 Second Podcast - 3 Amazing Health Transformations

Hello everyone, welcome back to Peak Human. This is a different kind of episode. It's going to be three 90 second podcasts. It's my new idea to fill in the gaps between peak human episodes. I do these short episodes with really interesting people I find around the internet with amazing health stories, valuable stuff in 90 seconds, really cool reels. I  put together, put them out on Instagram and also bundle them up and put them out as a little podcast. And so, yeah, in the meantime, go back and listen to the old episodes. Start back at episode one. So many great ones out there. And you may have heard Nose to Tail, my company is not selling meat anymore. We gave it a good run, but there's no profit on real food. I learned how the world works.  The world is the way it is because there's such a high profit margin on processed foods And if you don't have that huge profit margin, it's very hard to stay in business. So we've been supporting our regenerative ranchers here in texas for years now. We're going to sell the last bit of meat this monday We extended it. So if you're listening to this, it's June 12th, we're extending this to Monday, June 17th. And then we're going to stop. But of course we still have our amazing beef tallow body care products, hair, food, skin, food, deodorant, all the things. And we also have our biltong with liver too. We have the sticks made of grass fed meat, made of grass fed beef with liver. Best way to get your organs on the go.  So get that at http://nosetail.org get the last of our pasture raised pork by Monday, June 17th and enjoy the short three podcasts!

Andy Schoonover is the founder and CEO of CrowdHealth, a company that aims to revolutionize the healthcare payment system through crowdfunding. Schoonover's journey into healthcare innovation was sparked by a personal experience when his daughter needed a simple medical procedure, resulting in an $8,000 bill that their insurance refused to cover. This frustration with the traditional health insurance system led him to create a more transparent and supportive alternative. CrowdHealth operates in all 50 states and offers members a way to manage healthcare costs through a monthly subscription model and crowdfunding for medical expenses. The platform emphasizes transparency, affordability, and personalized support, providing services such as bill negotiation, discounted prescriptions, and access to virtual care. In this episode Andy Schoonover and I talk about the foundation and mission of CrowdHealth, aiming to revolutionize the traditional insurance industry. Schoonover narrates his motivations stemming from personal dissatisfaction with conventional healthcare systems, leading to the creation of an alternative that promotes healthier lifestyles and aligns financial incentives with wise health choices. Part 211 - The #1 Trick To Not Get Fat - From Acclaimed Scientists Raubenheimer & Simpson

Dr. Stephen J. Simpson and Dr. David Raubenheimer are renowned scientists known for their work in the field of nutritional ecology. Their research primarily focuses on understanding how organisms, including humans, regulate their intake of nutrients and how this affects their health and behavior. Dr. Stephen Simpson is an Academic Director of the Charles Perkins Centre and a Professor in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Sydney. His research has spanned several disciplines, from studying locusts to human obesity, and he has been influential in developing the field of nutritional ecology. Dr. David Raubenheimer, also affiliated with the University of Sydney, holds the Leonard P. Ullmann Chair in Nutritional Ecology. His research involves the study of nutrition and its effects across a wide range of species, including humans. He has worked extensively on the concept of nutritional geometry, which is a framework for understanding how animals and humans make decisions about what and how much to eat. Together, Simpson and Raubenheimer developed the "Protein Leverage Hypothesis," which suggests that the protein content of the diet can strongly influence total energy intake and thus has significant implications for understanding obesity. Their collaborative work has been pivotal in highlighting the complex interactions between diet composition, appetite, and health, making significant contributions to both basic biology and implications for human health and nutrition.   BUY THE MEAT NosetoTail.org Preorder the film here: http://indiegogo.com/projects/food-lies-post   SHOW NOTES: (08:00) Every species studied in their natural, undisturbed environments thrive in their nutritional balance. (16:32) The protein leverage hypothesis (see study: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22022472/#:~:text=The%20'protein%20leverage%20hypothesis'%20proposes,promote%20the%20development%20of%20obesity.) posits that we have a preference for protein over other macronutrients, and that the amount of protein we consume influences our appetite for carbs and fats afterwards. (28:07) Eating more, per se, isn’t the problem. It’s when that food is higher in energy density than fiber that leads to overeating and, by extension, obesity. (38:58) Much of the fruit we eat is not entirely natural due to the modification they go through in farms. (46:02) Over time, our bodies have adapted to thrive in the environment in which human beings find themselves. Today, we continue to adapt, but not necessarily for the better. (54:18) Even our circadian biology has been shaken up through modern sleep patterns and our supplementation with sleep pills and caffeine.   BUY THE MEAT NosetoTail.org Preorder the film here: http://indiegogo.com/projects/food-lies-post   Film site: http://FoodLies.org YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/FoodLies   Follow along: http://twitter.com/FoodLiesOrg http://instagram.com/food.lies http://facebook.com/FoodLiesOrg

Dr. Rosa shares with us how to create quality of care in service for education and interaction between patients, providers and Radiologists in sharing her own story on how to heal from inside out by literally “seeing” a “silent” metabolic active killer that visceral fat represents and taking action to change the presence status quo And move towards optimizing health.     SHOW NOTES (06:37) In medical school, healthcare professionals are trained to describe diseases while overlooking how visceral fat and metabolic health contributes to them. (15:52) Visceral fat is a major culprit when it comes to various metabolic issues. (28:04) The first step to prevent disease is to look for signs of inflammation. (31:17) While it’s possible to request your MRI scan from your doctor, most providers won’t know how to make use of it. (44:02) Health is not limited to staying alive. Health is also appearance and performance. (53:58) For doctors, another benefit of learning to deal with patients carrying high amounts of visceral fat is potentially minimizing burnout.

(24:33) We consume calories for many reasons, hunger being just one of them. Likewise, satiety is just one of many reasons we stop eating. (34:40) As a rule of thumb, eat a diet of omnivorous whole foods that are lower in calorie density. (49:56) Fiber is not an essential nutrient. (58:35) Nutrient-to-energy is important to health, but once you have adequate intake, there’s not much benefit in taking in more. (1:04:46) Most people in the US are more susceptible to obesity than others. Whether or not they actually become obese comes down to the environment they choose. Peak Human Podcast Preview

Hi Everyone, I’m Brian Sanders, and I’m making a feature length documentary called Food Lies which is about the sordid history of our dietary guidelines, the epidemic of chronic disease and obesity that followed, what the new science is telling us humans should actually be eating, and how to eat that food sustainably. As I make the film, I’m talking to a bunch of experts who have graciously lent me their time to create this podcast. Actually, you can think of this as a free audio course on nutrition - all without ads. I’m doing this to support the Food Lies film which is now crowdfunding on Indiegogo.com. Over the next 13 episodes you’ll hear from some of the top experts in their field, specifically chosen to cover all areas of this complicated subject. There’s so much conflicting health information out there, it’s almost impossible to know who and what to believe. I quit my job and have spent the past year researching it from all sides, even veganism, and this audio series provides an overview. By the end, all the confusion around health and what we should eat should make sense. You’ll learn so much more of the science behind this all, like the real deal with cholesterol and saturated fat, how to prevent cancer and diseases, if carbohydrates can be part of a healthy diet, and how ruminants like cows are essential for the health and future of the soil and environment The first part of the season includes these amazing doctors, researchers, and journalists: Professor Tim Noakes Dr. Ted Naiman Dr. Zoe Harcombe Gary Taubes Dr. Dom D’Agostino Denise Minger Dr. Shawn Baker Amy Berger Peter Ballerstedt And more to come There’s so much awesome information in this audio series, I can’t wait to share it with everyone. So please subscribe now wherever you get your podcasts. You're probably wondering “So who’s this Brian guy?” by now. Well, first of all, I’ve been a filmmaker since middle school. I’ve also built and sold a tech company, worked as a mechanical engineer, and now, I’ve quit my job to devote the rest of my life to this cause. I’ve read dozens of books, watched dozens of films, watched hundreds of lectures and presentations, and listened to over a thousand hours of podcast episodes on this subject. I’ve looked at all the different approaches and figured out what the common truths are and what’s BS. I now understand the unifying theory of nutrition that pulls together all sides - from Paleo to Vegan. Nobody is really talking about this - everyone is too busy being blinded by their tribe. I’ve also put this research into practice, and now, at age 35, I’m in the best shape of my life. My vitals and blood work are flawless and I haven’t been sick in 3 years. The same goes for countless family and friends, as well as millions around the world. I’m so excited to share this all with you.
