The pain of sin in Jacob's Family
Title: The Pain of Sin in Jacob's Family
Text: Genesis 34
Big idea: Sin always brings pain.
Three sins in this text that lead to pain:
(1) Selfish leadership leads to pain
(2) Corrupt sexuality leads to pain
(3) Dishonesty leads to pain
Application:
- Looking to Jesus’ sacrificial leadership, let’s pursue selflessness
- Looking to Jesus’ joyful purity, let’s fight for personal holiness
- Looking to Jesus’ truthfulness, let’s use our words to benefit others

Faithful Mourning: How to Walk by Faith When You Lose a Loved One
Sermon Title: “Faithful Mourning: How to Walk by Faith When You Lose a Loved One”
Text: Gen. 23:1-20
I. The Reality of the Mourner. V. 1
A. The Matriarch He Mourned.
B. The Manner in which He Mourned.
II. The Responsibility of the Mourner. V. 3-4
A. To Continue to Sojourn by Faith. V. 3-18
Heb. 11:10
Acts 2:46
Phil. 2:15
I Peter 2:11
III. The Reward of the Mourner.
How do we walk by faith when we lose a loved one?
God is faithful in our darkest times.
God’s promises take time
God is working all things together for good.
Discussion Questions:
1. How does this text help us understand our need for the whole counsel of God’s word?
2. Have you experienced the loss of a loved one? How can you identify with Abraham’s experience? Where did you find it hard to walk by faith? Where did you find your faith helpful?
3. What promises did God give Abraham that would help him to continue by faith? What promises have been given to you to help you walk by faith even in the loss of a loved one?
4. Look at the 3 points mentioned under “The Reward of the Mourner” Which of these encourages your faith the most? Discuss.
5. All of the promises of God are yes and amen in Christ (2 Cor. 1:20). Take time to acknowledge that apart from Christ we would not receive the promises. How did Christ secure these promises for Abraham and how does He secure God’s promises to us? Worship Christ!

The LORD Will Provide
Sermon Title: “The LORD Will Provide”
Text: Gen. 22:1-19
I.The Testing of Abrham’s Faith. v. 1 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham,
The Continued Testing of Faith.
The Confusion in Testing Faith. V. 2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
The Confidence of Tested Faith. V. 3
Heb. 11:17 17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, 18 of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,” 19 concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.
II.The Triumph of Abraham’s Faith.
The Triumph of Faith Provided. V. 14 14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
The Triumph of Faith Pictured. 14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
John 8:56 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”
Questions for Discussion:
1. Can you identify with the continued testing of faith, the confusion of the testing of faith, and the confidence of tested faith? Perhaps, Discuss a time in your life when your faith has been tested? How did the LORD provide or how has the LORD promised to provide?
2. Are you currently experiencing a test of faith? How have we observed Abraham’s growth in faith and what lessons could you learn from him from this text?
3. Jesus said “Abraham rejoiced to see my day, and he saw it and was glad”. What did He mean by that? How did Abraham see Christ’s day and how can that encourage us today?
4. What does the word “Jehovah-Jireh” mean? What does that teach you about God and the Gospel today?
5. Take time to be thankful for God’s provision in Christ. Confess your lack of faith or areas of sin to one another and then pray for one another and trust your God will provide.

Before the Throne of God
Before the Throne of God
Scripture: Rev. 7: 9-17
Sermon Outline:
I. The People Before the Throne of God.
A. Notice where they are from.
9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues
Gen. 12: 3
Acts 1:8
Mt. 28:19-20
B. Notice what they are doing.
9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
Ex. 15:1
Rev. 3:4
II. The Praise Before the Throne of God.
11 All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying: “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, Thanksgiving and honor and power and might, Be to our God forever and ever. Amen.”
Luke 15:10
III. The Peace Before the Throne of God.
13 Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?” 14 And I said to him, “Sir, you know.” So he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Beholding the Glory of Jesus Christ at His Second Advent
Text: 2 Thessalonians 1: 3-10
Phil. 1:27 27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel 28 without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. NIV

Beholding the Glory of Jesus Christ in His Deity
John 1:1-18 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ ” 16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
I. The Revelation of the Deity of Christ in His Name. v. 1-2
Col. 1:15 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Heb. 1:2-3 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power,
John 14:9-10 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me
II. The Revelation of the Deity of Christ in His Nature. V. 3-5
A. The Rejection of the Light. V. 6-10
John 3:16,19-20 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. V.19 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
B. The Receiving of the Light. V. 12-13
2 Cor. 4:6 6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
John 5:21 21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.
III. The Revelation of the Deity of Christ in His Nearness. V. 14-17
John 17:5 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
John 17:24 24 “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world
