A Buddhist Podcast

Welcome to A Buddhist Podcast for 1st October 2023. Tonights show is the Tenth in a series of dialogues on the Gohonzon between Luigi Finocchiaro, Peter Morris and myself. Tonight we talk about Nichirens exile to Sado Island. We also discuss: Going to Sado Island was not a one way trip, Nichiren's disciples travelled back and forth Our practice to the Gohonzon mandala is the eternal return of the Ceremony in the Air Kankenki drawings of 1254 Without Honen there may not have been Nichiren Sado is where Nichiren starts to cast off his chrysalis and become a butterfly and at Minobu begins to fly Nichirens famous writings on Sado Island, The True Object of Worship and The Opening of the Eyes are extant and clarified so much of Nichiren's teachings We can question whether Nichiren was sent to Sado to die, that might not be true! Japan is unlike Europe, its natural disasters have meant that nothing about Japan has remained the same physically  You can purchase Luigi's books here

The book written by Eddy Canfor-Dumas and Peter Osborne is invaluable and I hope you are getting a lot out of it! In order to expedite the delivery a little faster I have decided to forego adding the conversation, although super valuable the effort required to improve the Skype recordings has proven a little arduous to ensure a regular update for you. I hope you don’t mind and don’t feel you are missing anything.  We play a song, Somebody Like You but the inimitable and irrespressible  James Golding, from his album,  Supernatural Glam. A Buddhist Podcast - The Talking Revolution - We are relationships

Happy New Year everyone! On this show we have Peter Osborn and Eddy Canfor-Dumas , back with the second installment of The Talking Revolution. This is a great show to share with those who don’t practice as its completely free of jargon and really helpful! Its called, We are relationships. The book, The Talking Revolution has just been published on Amazon and Eddy and Peter are busy responding to queries about it from across the world.  In tribute to all the great men out there in the world, who may or may not use Gillette products, I play a great record called Big Hearted Man by my long time friend, Jimmy Golding! Following the theme we have some more conversation on the We are relationships chapter of the book. In an age when sometimes there is so little to rejoice about, its great to hear such positive conversation. I’m excited as I’ve heard the next chapters and I can’t wait to share them all with you this year. Thank you for all your feedback! Keep an eye out, this website should be upgraded very soon! Sending you my best for a wonderful week.

A Buddhist Podcast - Introduction to The Talking Revolution

Peace and goodwill to everyone! Tonight we have the introduction to a new book called the Talking Revolution written by two members of the SGI from the UK, Peter Osborn and Eddy Canfor-Dumas. Its an exciting book that has just been published on Amazon. It is a practical approach to communication. I think one of the biggest challenges in explaining Buddhism to the modern world is the need to explain how to apply it in the way we interact with ourselves and others. This book, although brief, will start a talking revolution. We are going to serialize the book in audio on this podcast over the next few weeks. As an indulgence to how I felt when I was putting the show together, Jody Gnant was kind enough to give us permission to play Great Day again on the show. In the second half of the show we have a recording of a Skype conversation between Jason and the two authors of The Talking Revolution. Let us know what you think about the sound quality as we are working on developing the content for a regular segment! Happy New Year!

Welcome to another episode of A Buddhist Podcast! Tonight William Woollard reads Chapter 5, Buddhism and Ethics from his book, The Case for Buddhism. Its a great chapter that I’ve learned a lot from. As soon as there is an official final version, we will post links here! After getting some emails from listeners with huge challenges I decided to talk about my experience of taking on challenges and lose grief to help me become a better person. So lots of voices tonight and a couple of experiences too. The artwork for the episode is the last picture I had taken with my uncle, Barry Brooks who recently passed away. The four of us at the kitchen table

A few weeks ago we had the good fortune of having William Woollard, Matt MacMillan and Karen and myself sat around our kitchen table. We read two lovely experiences about relationships with mothers, one from two sisters in India, Bipasha van der Zijde & Bishaka Dalvi. The other experience was from Kelvin Lam.  We swapped stories and experiences and played music from the Podsafe music including, Levi Blues by the Lala Girls, Mine Again by Black Lab and Yael Naim with New Soul. The editing took some time and I was able to get the file ready to the digital work on the plane to Brisbane, where when we land I hope to post online! Thank you very much everyone for the many birthday wishes you were kind enough to send and for all your good wishes about our forthcoming move to Vancouver. We are continuing to study hard and have started writing the lecture for the next show, so bear with us as we embark on the next crazy adventure. I think its about time we shared an experience of how we have done this, what do you think?

A Buddhist Podcast - Special Edition - Grade 2 Study Support

Tonight's show is a bit of an experiment! For some time now we have had a lot of requests from listeners to provide support for the level 2 study courses that are taking place in Europe at the moment. This study will culminate in an exam in mid November for those who want to take it. William Woollard has also had many requests for support in this activity, so we have got together to produce a special edition show! The exam consists of 5 sections, A, B, C, D and E. Each section has a number of questions. In the exam you will be asked one question from each section. On this podcast, William has prepared an answer for every question. It is NOT a model answer but the kind of answer that William would make based upon the study material provided. Remember the questions require you to use the study material rather than your existing knowledge. If you are not a member of SGI in Europe at the moment but you would like to follow along, you can hop over to this site and download the study material we are looking at! Remember you need to look for the Grade 2 material. If you are doing the Grade 1 study course, you still might find value in listening to the show as both Grade 1 and Grade 2 share the same questions in Section E about the Priesthood. In between all of this study material, we have still found time for some music. On tonight's show we play a wonderful track by Black Lab called Lonely Boy and for the second time on the show Great Day by the amazing Jody Gnant. Music courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network Thank you for downloading the show! We have a great show coming up in 2 weeks so keep an eye out for it! Thank you as well for all your support.
