In the meantime, this episode is released on "Araw ng Kagitingan" or Day of Valor, and the premiere of GOMBURZA on Netflix. Despite this national holiday,
there seems to a a kind of fatigue and cynicism surrounding nationalism these days. Here, I relate Randy David's discussion on political despair with the need to continue the civic excitement ignited by GOMBURZA.

Ep. 50 Mental Health Advocacy with RS Mojica and Bill Fuentes
Apologies if the sound for this episode is off. My microphone had technical difficulties so I had to re-dub my parts for audio clarity.
For this holiday season, this episode will talk about mental health We always hear a lot about mental health. This may contain sensitive themes. We heara lot of buzzwords like anxiety, depression, toxicity, stress, trigger warnings etc . While many dismiss it as a lack of faith or resilience or a fad among the youth, there is a real phenomenon ofan increasing number of diagnoses, which need medication and therapy, and at extreme cases may lead to self-harm and suicide. Many people have integrated mental health into popular discourse but there are still other parts of society that do not understand or tolerate it. There is a lot we do not fully understand about this reality. This week, we have two guests RS Mojica and Bill Fuentes from Mental Health PH, to hopefully help us understand and demystify mental health and how ordinary citizens can address this issue.

A Letter to President Marcos
Hello Mga Ka-P*I*, this is your host, Matt Ordonez. As you know, this is, admittedly a belated release for the third anniversary of the P*I* podcast and for that I thank all of you for listening and following the podcast until now. Today, September 21, is also the anniversary of the declaration of Martial law. For this reason, I decided to do something different and show a new piece of Philippine history. I recently came across a letter addressed to former president, Ferdinand Marcos Sr. The letter was written by the late Atty. Eufemio Domingo, who at the time was an accomplished Mabini Lawyer and would later be appointed as a Chairman of the Commission on Audit during the administration of President Corazon Aquino. He was known by some as "one of the last honest men in government." The letter was dated on August 28, 1973, almost a full year after the declaration of martial law. It conveys a very mixed message. While he does sympathize with President Marcos with the need for government control, instilling discipline on society, the curbing of a corrupt elite, and the alleviation of widespread poverty in the country, he also expressed doubts with the implementation of Martial law. He also did not necessarily believe in the immediate restoration of democracy either but proposed a more "enlightened liberal dictatorship," perhaps a compromise and appeal to Marcos' better nature in order to improve the country's dire situation. In the end, Atty. Domingo pleads for President Marcos to grant the Filipino nation a new social contract and national purpose, challenging him to be a true father of the nation. Honestly, I am not entirely sure what to feel with this document. It certainly does not neatly fit in my own views nor the views of today's political camps. What I can say is, even an intelligent man with integrity like Atty. Eufemio Domingo did not see the situation as "black or white" even during the Martial law years itself. This is only the perspective of one man but perhaps it is worth considering given the difficulty of our current situation. I share this document not to re-assert or admonish his perspective but to stir some conversation regarding our history and the meaning of Martial law.
Although Atty. Domingo tried sending the letter to the president, it is unknown whether President Marcos Sr. received or read the letter
The following is an audio recording of myself reading the letter as faithfully as I can for everyone to judge for themselves. I look forward to any comments or responses any listener may have. Thank you and I hope you appreciate the recording.

Ep. 41 Democracy in the middle w/ Adele Webb
Should we give up or keep on chasing freedom?
We sit down with Adele Webb and discuss her latest book, Chasing Freedom: The Philippines' long journey towards Democratic Ambivalence
She argues that Philippines has what she calls Democratic Ambivalence or holding contradictory views about democracy. We discuss what democratic ambivalence means for Philippine politics, where it came from, and how we can move forward from knowing about this ambivalence. We also discuss the middle class, and re-evaluate the concept and re-assess their role in democratization.

Ep 40: On V for Vendetta
In this 5th of November episode, we revisit V for Vendetta - the graphic novel and film adaptation. For years, the film's protagonist, V, has been a popular symbol of resistance and political protest. We discuss the political themes and messages found in both the graphic novel and the movie adaptation before re-evaluating their applicability to today's contemporary politics. Specifically, we tackle the nature of violence and its relationship with politics, anarchism as an ideology, and political morality.

P*I* Niyo: On Social Media and SmartPhones
This is a special recording for students of UST taking politics and media. This talk is about the potentials and pitfalls of new media in relation the experience of podcasting. It also reflects on questions concerning the impact of smartphones and social media on political participation, disinformation and propaganda, accountability, and democracy itself. It concludes by exploring ways to adapt and adjust to these changes, insisting that man is the political animal and not the smartphone.
To start another season of the P*I* Podcast, we have invited our friend and colleague, Julien Carandang, to provide an essential understanding of food securtity. We tackle the many issues about food and food security, its many dimensions in everyday life, how it is being politicised by the current administration, and what we can do to adjust to the many challenges posed by today's food issues.

Episode 35 Understanding Muslim MIndanao with Prof. Yasmira Moner
We take a detour from our usual topics and explore an increasingly important region in the Philippines, Muslim Mindanao. While the region is often associated with conflict and other pejorative stereotypes, our guest, Yashira Moner, shows us that Muslim Mindanao is far more complex; that there is much to learn from Mindanaoan culture and politics. We also discuss a variety of political, cultural, and administrative issues that continue to challenge the development of Mindanao and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.

There is a recent box office battle between the movies "Maid in Malacanang" (a dramatization of the Marcos family and household during the last 72 hours before EDSA), and "Katips" (a stage musical about student activists posing as the "new katipuneros" during Martial Law). In relation to the wave of reviews coming from other sources, we have decided to focus on the effectiveness of these movies as propaganda, while fleshing out and providing a critique of their core messages. Ep. 33 Why is Morality Political? with Prof. Wataru Kusaka
In the aftermath of the 2022 elections, Filipino politics is still hounded by polarization and moral outrage. We tackle the nature of moral politics in the Philippines, how his work is still relevant to our current situation, what has changed since the publication of this book, and how we can live with political-moral conflict in the post-EDSA regime.

Ep. 31: Why is History Political? w/ Michael Tabuyan
History has served as both a target and a tool of politics. Historical revisionism and misinformation is currently saturating social media with backlash taking the form of deploying history as a means to forward political moral standards. Why is this the case? What is the relationship between History and Politics? How is History written? How can we have better conversations about History? We discuss this and more with our friend Mike Tabuyan who, as a citizen-academic, is currently engaged in the popularization of Philippine history.

Ep. 13 How Catholics can be good citizens? with Fr. Fiel Pareja
In this last part of the triad on colonialism and Catholicism in the Philippines, we invited Fr. Fiel Pareja (aka "Father TikTok") to talk about the relationship between Faith and Good Citizenship. Through his experience as both a priest and a rising social media personality, Father Fiel speaks about the need to practice one's faith and the inevitable unity between one's membership in the Church as a Catholic, and participation in public affairs as a citizen. We also learn how he has dealt with political issues, disagreements and the stress of the pandemic as a priest.

Slice of P*I* 4 On Community Pantries
In this Slice of P*I*, we discuss the emergence of "community pantries" as a novel and remarkable expression of citizenship. While everyone praises and celebrates them, we ask questions like why are they sustainable? Why are they political? Why do they work and why are they important? We highlight the importance of "tiwala"/Trust and "hiya"/Propriety in the operations and expansion of these pantries.
Here are instructions on how to set-up your own community pantry:

Ep. 12 Why is Filipino Catholicism political? ft. Julien Carandang
In light of the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Catholicism in the Philippines, we invited Julien Carandang to discuss why and how it has affected Philippine politics. Our discussions tackled the Filipino Catholic Church as an organization whose impact on local and national politics straddles both governance and ethics. Overall, we engaged in a more nuanced understanding of Church-State-Society relations in the Philippines beyond stereotypical portrayals of the Church as a monolithic and outdated entity.

Ep. 11: Why do we want to kill Magellan? On remembering colonial history
The Commemoration of the 500th Anniversary of Magellan's circumnavigation of the world and arrival in the Philippines has attracted criticism across social media as a celebration of colonialism. Between nation-building, myths, and colonial legacies, we tackle the following issues: why do we still want to "kill Magellan"; how do we address this bloodlust; how should we make sense of the past to move forward as a nation.

As the Philippines commemorates the 35th anniversary of the EDSA People Power, we critically examine the myth that emerged from this historic event. While many believe it is a milestone of Philippine Democracy, others see it as emblematic of our current political problems. Some people experience what can be called "EDSA fatigue" where we lose faith in the meaning of the event. What should we do given this crisis on our understanding of this important historical event? Slice of P*I* is a shorter format where we have quick hot takes on certain news issues. In this pilot episode, we discuss cancel culture in the Philippines, particularly the cases of Russu Laurente, a Pinoy Big Brother contestant in favor of the cancellation of ABS-CBN, Toni Gonzaga, PBB hostess who defended him, and Avel Bacudio, an artist fired after praising Imelda Marcos on Twitter.
