About What Seven Can Do
We are an acoustic guitar duo from Johannesburg with a repertoire of Rock, Jazz, Celtic and experimental music. We are determined to make the best music that we can. Though we are a guitar duo, we in no way see ourselves limited to purely playing guitar for the duration of our career, and are constantly exploring new sounds to implement after our debut album. We have all of the material written for our acoustic album and are just waiting for funding before we can deliver a world-class listening experience around the world. In the interim, we have our demo tracks available freely on Soundcloud, Reverbnation and Jamendo. We are Jason Menzies and Kyle Meenehan:Jason has a background in Metal guitar. Along What Seven Can Do, he plays in his metal band, Renounce; an upcoming afro-pop band, ZuCo; and he also has a solo project that is due for release in December 2013. Jason eats, sleeps and breathes music and has been invited to do his Masters in Musicology at the prestigious Berklee School of Music. What sets Jason apart from other lead guitarist is his unique use of accidentals (notes outside of the traditional scales); this, along with many other things, helps to create What Seven Can Do’s unique sound. Jason draws inspiration from many of the great guitarist, including Zakk Wylde, Eddie Van Halen, and Dimebag Darrel. Jason also draws a great deal of inspiration from the many great virtuosos in the classical and jazz world.Kyle is on a constant quest to push his own boundaries, and to challenge listeners to approach music in a new way. Kyle’s lyrics often pertain to social and environmental issues, and he’s determined to leave the world a better place when he’s done with it. He also has a solo folk project called Quietly Concerned, which is released under a Creative Commons license and has just started to discover the realm of digital soundscapes. Constantly exploring, Kyle’s vocals draw from a wide range of artists such as; Neil Young, Lisa Gerrard, Trent Reznor, and traditional chants from various cultures. Kyle discovered his true voice while on a solo, 5500km walk around South Africa where he was exposed to the needs of a country while having… well, he had a lot of time to sing to himself.
