About Surprise (Bergen)
Surprise was a group of musicians in their late teens in Bergen from autumn 1979 until the summer of 1982. Original members were Arild Jensen (vocals and guitar), Hans-Petter Henriksen (bass), Magne Trengereid (drums), Gunnar Eide (guitar) and Helge Nilsen (keyboards). Beate Jacabsen joined in early 1980 as lead singer. In November the same year, Beate and Gunnar was replaced by singer and guitarist Bengt Olsen. The group was initially influenced by funk, fusion and jazz-rock - by artists such as Mother's Finest, Gino Vanelli, Al Jarreau and The Pages. But in order to get gigs, they also had to play a lot more main stream stuff. They did many gigs from February 1980 until they split in June 1982 because of military service and education. Most of the members have teamed up later in different other constellations.
