Iwo is the Founder & CEO of Remote-how and Remote-First Institute, both of which are fully remote teams focused on helping others organizations make remote work, work. Ending Portugal’s NHR tax incentive & getting the Digital Nomad Visa

A few weeks ago the Portuguese government suddenly announced the intention to end their Non-Habitual Residents (NHR) program - a tax incentive that has lured countless foreigners to Portugal since its inception 15 years ago. This proposal suggests the program will no longer be available to anyone after December 31, 2023, and some headlines seem to suggest that Portugal is no longer in the business of wanting to attract expats and digital nomads. But as I discussed with Diana Andrade, Head of Portugal Immigration at Lexidy Law, this is definitely not the case and there are still many questions yet to be answered. Today Diana and I dive into the changes coming with NHR and a potential new tax incentive coming to replace it. We also dive into the Portuguese Digital Nomad visa and the D7 visa, as well as all the other reasons to move to Portugal, beyond tax incentives.
