Tori Kruse is an empowerment speaker and coach for young women, as well as a professional model. Tori graduated from the University of Iowa with her Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Entrepreneurial Management. She was crowned Miss Missouri USA 2018 and competed at Miss USA 2018. Her greatest accomplishment as a titleholder was developing a program called 1st ManUp®. She educated young men on preventing sexual assault and harassment by means of respecting women. You may have seen Tori walking the runways of New York Fashion Week, photographed in fashion magazines, or modeling on E! News. Tori was also a freelance sports reporter in Los Angeles and has associated herself with networks such as FoxSports, BigTen Network, and ESPN. In addition to Tori’s passion for her career, she also enjoys spending time with family, volunteering with her church, the Special Olympics, and traveling the country. Tori currently helps women conquer uncertainty and coaches them through the steps to develop the courage and confidence to break through their comfort zones. Lu Siera, at the age of 19, took her career to Europe to model and join model agencies in Paris, Italy, Germany and Japan. Lu is presently a part of Elite Model Management in New York.  Pierre Balmain was the first French designer to hire Sierra. Other designers such as Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent and Patrick Kelly began to request Sierra. Soon after, she began to work for Krizia, Fendi, Karl Lagerfield, Giorgia Armani and became known as the "Bob Mackie Model." Soon Bill Blass, Escada, Randolph Duke and Oscar de laRenta used her on the runway.  In 2008, Donald Trump hired Lu Sierra to choreograph the runway portion of the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants. This podcast has been rockin' since 2015, we've had hundreds of thousands of downloads, some truly wonderful guests, epic pageant trainings (if I do say so myself), beautiful reviews, and Awesome success stories! And it's about to get even better! When I started this podcast in 2015, my goal was to train you to win your pageant by improving who YOU are as a person and leaving a legacy that will positively impact the world. That's still my goal - I want to elevate the pageant world by training women how to nail it from the start. I've got success stories up the wazoo of how women around the world have won their pageants because of the training they've received through this podcast -- for FREE! And yet - the medium of podcasting is limited. You can listen to all the wonderful trainings, but you're likely busy driving, putting on your make-up, doing the dishes or going for a job --- that's just some of the stuff I do while listening. It's hard to implement what I'm talking about without the time or space dedicated to your coaching. Plus, as a teacher, I know that the best way to learn engages multiple senses. Listening alone means you won't retain as much of the information. In fact, Watching while listening and simultaneously DOING and Engaging with the content is the BEST way to learn... ....and therefore the best way for me to teach. So - I'm rolling out a new training method: Win A Pageant Master Class series! A Master Class is an in-depth training around a specific topic (just like the podcast trainings, but even more meat on them). It's a series, because I'll be doing a new topic for each Master Class. The Pageant Master Class will be taught over Facebook Video LIVE. Each month, you'll be able to join me live on Facebook for a video training on a new topic. After you've watched the show live, over video, you'll be able to ask me questions you have about your pageant in the comments of the video and I'll answer as many as I can right then and there - LIVE! How's that for immediate feedback?! If for some reason you aren't able to join me for the Master Class live, don't sweat it - you'll be able to go to the Facebook page after the training to watch the recording. I won't be able to answer questions there after the live recording, but you'll be able to Listen, Watch, Do, and Engage with the trainings, which means you'll be able to learn it so much better than the podcast. Especially if you've never really seen it done right. In 1999 he judged Miss Washington USA and the next year, he was invited to become the state director. A few years later, he added Idaho, a few years later Montana, and most recently Oregon. An awesome platform is vital to getting appearances, especially before you win a big state or national title. Your platform gets you in the door for appearances and media interviews. As a teen and young adult we are surrounded by people telling us what to do, setting boundaries, creating standards and delivering prompts we respond to. One of the common misconceptions of winning a pageant is the idea that when you win a pageant, you'll be swept away into some fairytale land where you get a business manager, PR specialist and full glam team. One of the greatest skills that pageant women learn is to convey memorized material in a way that feels new every time. It's a secret of actors, speakers, and media professionals. And it's a vital skill to win a pageant. Usually, when a woman attempts to memorize a speech, it generally loses emotional qualities that make it feel real, relatable, and engaging. One of my greatest pet-peeves, and that of every judge and pageant director and audience member... is a boring, monotone on stage introduction or answer to an on-stage question. It's painful to listen to, makes you pity the poor girl, and gets hideously low scores. I've heard so many well-written introductions that get wasted away with no emotion. Taking action is the number one thing that separates the good from the excellent – all the people with amazing ideas from those with amazing results. Taking actions means using the knowledge that you’re gaining from teachers, coaches, books, life wisdom…even this podcast…and allowing it to flow through your strengths and your skills and take action to help others. People who don’t take action, aren’t releasing their knowledge into the world. Imagine a running creek of water that is constantly refreshed, taking in new information and sharing it on down the road. If nothing is flowing through you, you’re either a swampland or a flood. With multiple perspectives, you get a stronger view of whether or not this pageant would be a good fit for you. Many pageants invite the contestants to prepare a brief opening statement or a closing statement that is presented during your interview, as an on-stage introduction, or in your on-stage question portion. This is an incredibly important part of your competition and you have to know how to prepare for it so you can start and end strong. Since you have time to prepare for this, the judges will expect you to have full control in this moment to help them really understand you in a very short amount of time. I best way to prepare for writing your statement is to consider the highlights of 3 snapshots in time: your past, your present, and your future. Orientation is a sea of judgment. It’s exciting and equally nerve-wracking. All the would-be titleholders showing up with their best foot forward to prove themselves as the winner. And that’s because the majority of what is seen by the audience is the on-stage portion. The audience doesn’t see all the work that the pageant winners put in prior to their winning. The work is done behind the scenes, many months prior to the pageant, but the audience only sees the on-stage question.  It’s really a shame, because women then enter pageants without a legacy project, and they really have no chance of competing against a woman who has had proper guidance toward an impressive Legacy Project. In fact, it’s an amazing opportunity to connect with anyone in a short yet focused amount of time. Think about it: an elevator conversation with a stranger usually only lasts about 2 minutes and it makes an otherwise awkward moment into a remarkably pleasant one. What else do you do in an elevator but stare at the numbers lighting up above the door in anticipation of your floor. But, if you’re not prepared for a conversation those could be the longest 2 minutes of silence all weekend. In fact, I believe they are far more difficult than job interviews. Most pageants allow for anything. Therefore, crazy questions are asked.  And you need to be prepared to deal with them. Just as in real life people ask all sorts of dumb, offensive, provocative, inappropriate and rude questions when you’re least expecting it – so, you have to be prepared to react. Winning a pageant can be exhilarating, spectacular, overwhelming, exhausting and confusing. In this episode, I'll train you to avoid some common mistakes of pageant winners. People see you as a powerful entity and in fact, ‘with great power comes great responsibility.’ One year goes by very quickly and you have to be prepared to make fast decisions that have the most beneficial impact and do no harm. You’ve heard this a million times, “She’s got it!” “There’s just something about her…” “Wow – She’s just wow.” It’s the ‘It Factor’; the attractive quality that someone exudes which makes you want to be near them, befriend them, or perhaps choose them for the title or a promotion. You know it when you see it. So…what is ‘it’?!  It’s Charisma! Charisma is a unique combination of characteristics, which allow an individual to standout in a crowd, appeal to an audience, and grab the attention of judges and others. It’s no secret that charisma has the power to persuade. If you’ve ever seen a James Bond movie, you know what I’m talking about. Charisma is something that anyone can exude at all times. Meaning, it has nothing to do with looks, education, skills, etc. It is really more of an attitude. In your pageant interview, the judges are expecting you to be prepared to communicate your best self during your interview. That means, whether it’s 2 minutes or 20 minutes, the responsibility is on you. Therefore, you have to be in control of the values you want to communicate, the stories you want to share, and how you will make an impact as the new titleholder.  I’ll teach you the top three things you should communicate during your interview. Just because you enter a pageant, doesn’t mean you have to want to win…yes, seriously. Pageant contestants sometimes get caught up in the need to win without truly considering what they really want. Here, I’ll teach you a 4-step exercise to help you determine your ultimate goal. You’ll be surprised to see some of the reasons that woman compete to not win their pageant. Teresa Scanlan, former Miss America 2011, is a good example of someone who won her first local, state, and national title and may have missed out on a longer pageant career if that was her goal. We can’t say for sure what her ultimate goal was, though I don’t know too many people who would bulk at a national title opportunity like that! This exercise is also helpful for every pageant you enter because it can bring up some hidden fears that you may have that you aren’t even aware of.
