063: The Power of Walking in the Truth of Your Story with Karrie Garcia
As a pastor, life coach, author and CEO, Karrie Garcia inspires change in others by boldly sharing her journey to freedom. Karrie has navigated dark places—including drug addiction, the suicide of her mother, and the breakdown of her first marriage—and emerged victorious through the freedom she found in the grace, mercy, and healing that can only come from Jesus Christ. At the point Karrie felt most disqualified from ministry and life itself, Scripture finally came alive for her to reveal God’s purpose and plan. This is the truth that continues to transform her life, and now Karrie is on a mission to redefine freedom for others. It was from this conviction that Freedom Movement was born. Karrie started the nonprofit in 2014 with the understanding that every single one of us is broken and has wounds, many of which are not often addressed within traditional church environments. She saw firsthand that God’s true redemptive purpose for our lives does not begin once we’re free from pain, rather it stems directly out of that pain. A licensed life coach through the International Coach Federation (ICF), Karrie is a natural at creating space for others and has been been involved in coaching and counseling, whether professionally or informally, for nearly 25 years. Through Freedom Movement and its programming, Karrie has fostered an environment where anyone can begin to process and heal, whether they’re taking their first or their last step on the road to freedom. Today, the organization has partnered with major churches in addition to Christian universities and conferences to offer this same healing space on a larger scale. This podcast episode is brought to you by UHSM Health Share, a unique health care membership on a mission to create holistic wellness for the mind, body and spirit. 035: When Your Spouse is Struggling with Addiction: An Honest Conversation with Leah Grey
This week I had an honest conversation with my friend Leah Grey about practical ways to cope and seek help when your loved one is struggling with an addiction.I deeply appreciated her candor and vulnerability in sharing her own story that I think will resonate with those who have been in similar shoes or are simply wanting to better understand and grow in compassionate support of those around them who may be going through the same thing.Leah Grey is a candid, faith-based writer who helps wives of addicts to set boundaries without screaming. In 2016, she was working as a hairstylist while her husband was in rehab for a substance addiction when she started a blog to see if there was anyone else out there like her. Four years later, her website now has over 130K readers, she’s won two prestigious national writing awards, and her blog was nominated for the David Mainse Best Blog of the Year Award. Leah teaches courses on how to set boundaries that align with the Word of God, facilitates an online support community, and recently completed her manuscript, No One Brings You a Casserole When Your Husband Goes to Rehab. 034: Where Faith Meets Suffering & Unexpected Loss with Jennie Lusko
Today we’re talking about where faith meets suffering and unexpected loss with Jennie Lusko. Something that often seems juxtaposed to one another, but is right where God want to meet us even when we can’t see the other side.We often think that if we have faith and do all the right things then bad things shouldn’t happen to us, but that’s not the reality of our human experience and we understand that no one is immune from the deepest of trials.Jennie shares more on this and her story here, which is both daunting and insightful. She touches on the topic of suffering and what scripture says about unsurmountable grief & loss and holding onto faith through it all.Jennie Lusko serves alongside her husband, Levi, leading Fresh Life Church in Montana, Utah, Oregon, and Wyoming, as well as across the world online. They have five children: Alivia, Daisy, Clover, Lennox, and Lenya, who is waiting for them in heaven. The Lusko family lives in Montana and enjoys bike rides, walks, lake days, late-night hot tub and cold plunge parties, movies, and family breakfast. Jennie loves spin and boxing, good food and sugary coffee, and wearing the same thing every day but also getting fashion advice from Levi. Jennie is also a hugger, so beware if you meet her.Get started with online therapy & counseling:Better Help Counseling (10% off your first month): https://betterhelp.com/mosesFaithful (Christian) Counseling (10% off your first month): https://faithfulcounseling.com/brittneyFor a list of specific mental help & crises resources: https://brittneyamoses.com/mental-help-resources/Connect with Jennie Lusko here!Instagram: @jennieluskoTwitter: @jennieluskoFacebook: @jennieluskojennielusko.comConnect with Brittney on social media for more:Instagram: @BrittneyMosesInstagram: @ChristianMentalHealthInstagram: @faithmentalwellnesspodcastFacebook: @BrittneyAMosesTwitter: @Brittney_MosesBrittneyAMoses.comCrisis lines by country: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_suicide_crisis_linesSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-faith-mental-wellness-podcast-with-brittney-moses. 007: A Holistic Approach to Nutrition, Mental Health and the Gut-Brain Connection with Dr. Janelle Sinclair
If you’ve been following me on Instagram or Facebook at all lately, you’ve noticed that I’ve started talking more about the connection between nutrition and mental health. When you think about the gut-brain connection even on a common sense level, it makes sense that…What you eat fuels your body.Your brain is an organ in sync with your body. Therefore, what you eat fuels your brain. Most recently in my studies I've wanted to better understand the chemical level of how what we eat translates in the brain and if there were tested and proven results that showed a difference in mental and emotional well-being based on the food choices people made. Since the brain is an organ that also undergoes a biochemical process, it brings into question how the quality of the food we put into our bodies could affect our brains and mental well-being. So for todays episode I had the honor of chatting with Dr. Janelle Sinclair about a holistic approach to nutrition, mental health and the gut brain connection- something you guys have expressed wanting to hear more about as well. Dr Janelle Sinclair is a biochemist and registered natural medicine practitioner who specializes in the area of mental health. She is a wife, a mother of two, a Christ-follower, a crossfitter, a speaker and an author. Dr Janelle has worked in the natural medicine field for over 14 years, has a PhD in biochemistry from Basel, Switzerland, and has a Postgraduate certificate in mental health. She is a lover of learning and has completed numerous natural medicine and neurolinguistic programming courses, and is FitGenes certified.Recommended Resources & Videos:Anxiety and blood sugar: https://youtu.be/G6urdV26TWASIBO and FODMAP diet: https://youtu.be/COjHmgInIZ0Omega 3 for depression: https://youtu.be/5qbtUL0W0_AVitamin D: https://youtu.be/rJ76CwFzU34Vitamin D report: https://www.drjanellesinclair.com/vitamin-dFREE CHECKLIST RESOURCE: www.drjanellesinclair.com/checklistConnect with Dr. Janelle on:Her website: www.drjanellesinclair.comYoutube: www.youtube.com/drjanellesinclairInstagram: www.instagram.com/drjanellesinclairFacebook: www.facebook.com/drjanellesinclair Recommended Blogs:5 Reasons What You Eat Can Help Improve Your Mental Health This YearConnect with Brittney on social media for more:Instagram: @BrittneyMosesInstagram: @ChristianMentalHealthInstagram: @faithmentalwellnesspodcastYoutube: BrittneyMosesFacebook: @BrittneyAMosesTwitter: @Brittney_MosesBrittneyAMoses.comCrisis lines by country: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_suicide_crisis_linesSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-faith-mental-wellness-podcast-with-brittney-moses. 004: Codependency and Encouraging Real Change in a Toxic Relationship
On today's podcast, we're talking about codependency and encouraging real change in a toxic relationship (not just romantic ones). Many times we believe that if we just do enough things and control enough settings around a person- we can make them change, but this is not how change usually works. This codependency keeps both parties trapped- usually getting nowhere. Some will only learn by experiencing the consequences of their actions (ourselves included) and ignoring or saving them from that every time only enables the cycle of toxic and destructive behaviors. This doesn’t mean we hold others or ourselves to standards of perfection or overnight change but proactivity and progress in the right direction. Tune into the recording for more... Let’s connect!
