We had a successful live debut at Hal and Al’s last week: no one spilled beer on the mixer! Joseph has been trying to get beatoracle.net redesigned for about a year, so I figured I’d celebrate our success by changing the colors around here. We also wanted to share a bit of the recording from […]

Gore + MLK
This week's show features a Martin Luther King, Jr Day speech by Al Gore (transcript) mixed with some great ambient music. Thanks to indymedia for having the raw audio we were looking for, as usual. Noah rocks the first hour with an ecclectic dj set.

Nodding Through 2005
This was my last show of the year, so I decided to play a bunch of my favorite Beat Oracle tracks released in 2005. I have to say, I love the hell out of these songs. Noah played a short set after I finished--but never fear, he'll be rocking solo next week while I'm away. Hopefully Ascona will send us the new theme mix for our return in 2006!
This year saw mainstream adoption of podcasting, and we appreciate all the feedback and support we receive. Check out the other podcasts linked in the right column--send us recommendations of stuff we haven't heard. Community broadcasting, internet sharing and podcasting is vital to keeping independent music heard. Let's hope 2006 sees those in power begin to join this revolution rather than fight it (ha). Get involved with community media! It is both fun and critical to democracy's survival. Seriously.

we’re back
apologies about not having podcasts of the last two weeks. we were in the middle of our annual fund drive at kcsb which meant a touch of chaos and lots of pitching in the studio. we're back this week in the studio with a special guest mix from bryan of ascona. bryan's visiting southern california this week and decided to stop by in a rare trip away from his maine studio. we have a special contest for an ascona cd-r this week in the show. we'll be getting the playlist up shortly: enjoy!

new shows
i missed a post about last week's show (again). doh! well, last week i dropped some laid-back jazzy type stuff and then noah brought in some new jams like sa ra, pest, cage. this week we had some spookey stuff for halloween and some more new releases: animal collective, magnetophone, rjd2 (from the 2k6 soundtrack). i updated the podcast links with some great new podcasts: check waxing deep and east village radio.
We've got KCSB pledge drive shows the next two weeks. Please consider supporting our station in whatever way you can. You can reach us live in the studio at 805.893.2424 from 10p-midnight pacific time.

Sorry about being a day late--I was out of it yesterday. We're still in KCSB's temporary studio and this week's recording suffers from the old equipment we're using. Sorry about any fuzzing or cracking--by fall we should be in the band new digital buzzing and ringing studio.

Serious Sun
Last night's show was full of summer type jams. I'm currently beat red from at fight with the sun (I lost). I think my parents are going to dig on the Ry Cooder track. The Cornelius track song goes out to everyone in Anaheim. Back on Air
I was out in the Pacific Northwest last week while Noah worked solo and tried out the new interm studio. Unfortunately the recording equipment was acting up, so after a 3 week hiatus we're back! I'm still getting used to the new equipment here--but I was able to play a bunch of new stuff I picked up in Seattle (Ascona CDr, Edan, L Pierre, etc.). This is a pretty mellow show. Oh also--we're trying out sending out the show as 1 file rather than in 2 parts. Less CD-r friendly, yet more podcast friendly. If you have a preference between splitting the show or not--drop us a comment and let us know.
