61 | Nature as Healing, Shroomies and Psychedelics, Listening To Your Body with Phoebe McPherson: Fungtion Co-Founder
This is such a fun and unique episode. I'm sitting down with Phoebe who is a plant educator, herbalist, and just overall woo woo babe which y'all know I LOVE. She is the co-founder of Fungtion, a functional mushroom wellness brand. Fungtion exists to create subtle transformations in people's lives through functional ingredients derived from earth. For a funny rabbit hole because Grace has been on the podcast a few times now, Phoebe is Fungtion's co-founder alongside George who is Grace's best friend's cousin. This episode is fun because I am coming out of the psychedilics closet and we are talking all about shroomies. We're diving into functional and medicinal mushrooms and then we answer some of my listener's questions about the ~fun mushroom. I took away so much from this conversation about listening to your body and allowing nature to heal you from the inside out. The hardest truth from our convo: no one is going to save you, no one can do the work for you, the only way out is through. Let's get in. to. it. 57 | Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone, Welcoming Fear and Anxiety, and Growing in Discomfort
In today's episode I'm discussing what it looks like to step out your comfort zone and into your purpose, what to expect every step of the way, and how we can only grow when we push ourselves. As y'all know, we have the most amazing guests and I'm lucky to call most of them close friends so I get to experience the behind the scenes of some of these conversations. I'm also walking you guys through a few episodes that I've recorded in the past where my friends stepped out of their comfort zone and into their purpose. 10/10 recommend you go back and listen to these episodes: Episode 24: Lindsay Ayers walks us through her move from Chicago to DC. 52 | Normalizing Black Wealth, Real Estate Investing and Retiring at 32, and Learning to Celebrate Your Wins with The Key Resource - Kendra Barnes
I had chills this entire episode because I'm sitting down with someone who is changing the trajectory for families who want to build generational wealth but don't know where to start. Kendra Barnes, or The Key Resource, is on the podcast today and as she's sharing her real estate and early retirement wisdom, I'm thinking about all of you who will listen and take something away and how that will change your life and your family's life. I'm thinking about the THOUSANDS of people in her online community that she's helped purchase their first property and the seeds she's planted that will be growing for generations to come. I'm really proud of Kendra and the life she's building with her husband. Kendra is a full-time Real Estate Investor, founder of The Key Resource and author of ACRES. Her real estate investments afforded her the ability to retire from the 9-5 life at the age of 32. She created The Key Resource to inspire, empower and educate people about the power of home ownership and Real Estate investment. Her key message to anyone looking to buy a home or a rental property is: “You don’t have to hit the lottery or be left an inheritance to buy property. You can start with what you have right now. You are worthy of wealth.” Even if you feel like real estate or building wealth is not your thing, we also talk about her writing a book and having her daughter during the pandemic, how she's learning to celebrate her wins without being too hard on herself, prioritizing yourself even when there are a million and one things pulling at your attention and so much more. 34 | Skincare Product Education, Saying Goodbye to Chemical-Free Skincare, and Our Holy Grail Products with Brynna Kibler of 7 Esthetics Skin Studio
2021 was the year that I decided to get serious about my skin and by way of hashtags and some intense ig scrolling (and trolling lol), I happened upon Brynna of 7 Esthetics Skin Studio. Brynna is a corporate employee turned esthetician/entreprenuer whose passion for skincare was birthed from her own experiences with acne and hyperpigmentation. I do not say this lightly when I tell you guys that she has changed my skin and my life. I've always been a little insecure when it comes to my skin, but I was making the mistake of following skincare routines from influencers and not licensed professionals. Oof. Today we're talking about: Understanding the difference between a skincare expert/esthetician and a dermatologist and when to see each one Getting serious about your skincare and skin health (Black does crack, y'all) Tackling the awkward conversation on how to break up with your esty when they're no longer your bestie Skincare products to lean towards depending on the skin challenge you're trying to solve Why the clean beauty movement is not always effective when it comes to skincare (plot twist: chemicals can be our friend) + more! Today I'm sitting down with my beautiful widow sister, Fabi. She lost her husband to Synovial Sarcoma in December of 2016. This episode will air just two days after his 6 year anniversary of passing so this is a special one for us to celebrate the love of her life, Josh. After finding out his cancer was terminal, his last wish was for Fabi to start their dream family with or without him. Before he started chemo, he froze his sperm and Fabi has spent the last 2 years going through 5 rounds of IVF with so many ups and downs trying to make her dream a reality. This one's for you, Josh & Baby P. I know Josh is holding onto them a little tight in heaven until they makes their way earthside for us to love on Baby P here. On J's 2 year death anniversary I released a bonus episode with my widow sister, Margaret. 10/10 recommend you grab a glass + tissue and go back and listen to that episode. Fast forward to today, I met Fabi through Margaret and they happened to be together while we were recording this episode so you'll hear a few words from her as well. LOVE these girls. 24 | Faith, Prayer, and Intimacy with God in All Seasons with Lindsay Ayers
We’re back this week for one of our final episodes of Season 2. Lindsay is a dear friend that I met on IG a few years ago and has easily become one of my favorite people to follow on Instagram and in real life. After going through a tough break up, she began to see God in a new way and I love how she uses her platform “The Faith Feast” to welcome other people into the presence of God so that they can experience His fullness. The best part? The girl is down to earth and SO relatable. No Christianese or holier than thou BS over here - just two girls who know how much they need a Savior. In today’s episode, Lindsay is walking us through what it looks like to fully trust God even in the moments that you want to be in control, what faith means to her, and what true intimacy with God looks like. I left this conversation feeling so convicted (in the best way) to PRAY and welcome God into my everyday because a part from Him there is no rest. We've been rocking together since the 6th grade, he introduced me to Joe, was the best man at our wedding, and spoke at J's funeral. He's an NFL and LGBTQ+ community icon, but I am honored that he also plays the role of shoulder I can cry on whenever I need. In this episode we'll talk about Ryan coming out as the first openly LGBTQ+ professional in the NFL, not compartmentalizing your life or putting yourself in a box so you can live your full truth, what nearly one year of sobriety looks like for Ryan and the new lifestyle he's adopted and what life is like after losing his best friend to cancer and our shared journey through grief. 08 | Welcome (back) to the Rosé with Rae Podcast
Welcome to Rosé with Rae! A podcast designed for around the table and real life conversations over a glass (or bottle) of rosé. I’m your host Rachel Symone Gilliam, but here’s hoping you stick around long enough to get comfortable calling me Rae. In today’s inaugural episode, we’re getting to know the girl behind the mic, how the podcast came to be, and what you can expect from this season. Thanks so much for listening! xx
