Political Prisoner Radio Weekly 12/27/2015
Tonight we will be highlighting two political prisoners. During the first half-hour we will be speaking to Prisoner Radio's Noelle Hanrahan to get an update on the case involving long held political prisoner and revolutionary Mumia Abu-Jamal.
The courts are currently hearing the case of Abu-Jamal v. Kerestes. The case centers around the refusal of medical treatment to adequately treat the Hepatitis C virus that Mumia suffers from. The case has had some explosive revelations as of late and Noelle Hanrahan will share those with us tonight. This case could have wider implications concerning the human rights of prisoners to get access to the healthcare they need.
During the second half-hour we will be speaking with Josie Shapiro who is a political prisoner advocate for Eric G. King, a 28-year-old vegan anarchist who was arrested and charged with the attempted firebombing of a government official’s office in Kansas City, MO in September 2014. He is currently being held in facilities run by the private prison profiteer and human trafficking company, Corrections Corporation of America and reportedly is being targeted and abused by guards as he is held in solitary confinement.

US Supreme Court holds Native Hawaiians as political hostages
Tune in for an hour of news, information and commentary concerning political prisoners.
Today will share the latest news concerning a previous report about the re-establishment of the overthrown Kingdom of Hawaii which was cleared by the Obama administration to hold a vote to determine if the Hawaiians would get their country back. That process has now been blocked by the US Supreme Court and why we say every non-assimilated Native Hawaiian is a political prisoner and prisoner of war.
We will share some of the latest political prisoner events posted to our Facebook page Political Prisoner Radio.
Two Political Prisoner Birthdays this week are Stanley L. Cohen (Dec 6) and Zolo Agona Azania (Dec 12).
Tonight an unusually long Political Prisoner Radio Mix made from clips of prisoners Mumia Abu-Jamal, Asar Imhotep Amen, and Kenneth Hartman. The audio commentaries are recorded and posted by Prison Radio. Visit Prison Radio and support their work.

Prisoner Healthcare Rights & Hepatitis C
Tune in for an hour of news, information and commentary on US held political prisoners.
Tonight we will re-air a portion of a press conference that took place at 1199 Healthcare Workers Union in New York. The press conference was concerning prisoners, Hepatitis C and the refusal of prison administrators to provide medical treatment. Hepatitis C is a communicable disease that prisons are choosing to let spread among inmates.
The Abolitionists Law Center argues that "Health care and a healthy environment is a human right for prisoners and non-prisoners alike." Attorney Bret Grote is representing political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamaal in his lawsuit against the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections which is withholding treatment from him for Hepatitis C.
The case could have an impact on prisoners healthcare rights across the United States.
Mumia Abu-Jamal is the lone voice in tonight's Political Prisoner Radio Mix. Topics he touches on include fear mongering, banning Syrian Refugees, politics and finance.
There are no political prisoners with birthdays this week but we will share news updates from our Political Prisoner Radio Facebook page. Albert Woodfox, Mumia Abu-Jamal, Seth Hayes & Political Violence in France
Herman Bell is political prisoner who was active during the 60s movement to make Black Lives Matter in the fight for social justice. Herman was active with the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Army. Mr. Bell is coming up for parole once again and once again the racist white supremacists and police brutality supporter Pat Lynch of the NYC PBA. Each and every time as is usually the case with Police Unions across the nation, Pat Lynch and the PBA launches a media demonization propaganda program to influence the parole process.
Pat Lynch and the thuggish NYC PBA are right now engaged in a propaganda campaign to smear and demonize Quentin Tarantino for speaking out against police brutality and standing in solidarity with the movement against widespread police violence in the USA.
Click here to get more info on the campaign to parole Mr. Bell.
There is another medical emergency alert and call to action for Robert Seth Hayes. Please read the call to action on his behalf on our Political Prisoner Radio Facebook page via NYC Jericho and his advocates.
The Jericho Movement says, “IN PRISON 42 YEARS, Seth first came up for parole in 1998, but prison officials have refused to release him, and are effectively punishing him for having been a member of the Black Panther Party, and of having remained true to his ideals after 30 years behind bars.”.
The campaign to free the NATO3 has posted an update and medical alert for Jared Chase.
“Chase has dismissed both his NLG attorneys and his public defender, and his trial for allegedly assaulting guards has been postponed yet again until December 7. He continues to face harsh treatment in custody, including losing "good time," losing visitation rights, having personal property destroyed, spending time in solitary confinement and even being housed on suicide watch (despite not being suicidal). He has gone on many hunger strikes as his only recourse to demand that they meet his medical and nutritional needs, without much success. In October of 2014, Chase wrote to several supporters, “I am a transgender woman,” asking to be referred to as Maya Chase.” Read more…
In international solidarity news, the Israelis have been on another brutal campaign to suppress the rights of Palestinians and have been killing people and refusing others medical attention after they have been shot in the streets so they can bleed out. Recently they arrested a 14 year old Palestinian girl, Tamara Abu Laban, accusing her of incitement through Facebook because of course Facebook is a major tool governments use to spy on citizens and those they are oppressing. The Framing of Jamil Al-Amin (H Rap Brown) & The Omaha Two
Tune in for an hour of news, information and commentary on the state of political prisoners held within the United States.
Tonight one of our family members needs help. Ameejill Whitlock is the co-host and co-producer of Political Prisoner Radio which has been on air for the past three years on the Black Talk Radio Network. She started her activism on behalf of political prisoners as a teenager and the work has continued to this date. She has also been involved in Baltimore rebellion helping to organize behind the scenes as protest rocked the city over the killing of Freddy Grey.
Ameejill's mother whom was in poor health and Ameejill has been providing care for, recently passed away. Like many families with long-term illnesses in the family, Ameejill and her young son may be homeless in 30 days if the bank forecloses on her mother's home. One of Ameejill's comrades, Kevin James has set up a fundraiser which hopes of raising at least $3,000 for Ameejill and her son. Those who want to contribute can do so via the PayPal email address [email protected].
Information has come to my attention that authorities knew or know that Imam Jamil Al-Amin who is widely know by his former name H Rap Brown when he was with SNCC and the Black Panther Party, is in fact ,innocent of the murder and assault on two Fulton County Georgia sheriff deputies. In fact, another man has confessed for the crime so why is it that those involved would rather frame our elder brother instead of seeking justice for the officers? Is it because of his name and past work and fear that he could become relevant in the current movement against police violence and terrorism?
We also get an update on the case and his health via an interview his wife Mrs. Karima Al-Amin recently did with BlockReportRadio.Com.
Today is the birthday of former Black Panther Ed Poindexter. Ed Poindexter and Mondo We Langa together are known as the Omaha Two, victims of a COINTELPRO plot to frame them for a bombing that killed a police officer.

Peltier, Panthers & US Held Political Prisoners In Need of Justice
Bolivian President Evo Morales acknowledged that American Indian activist Leonard Peltier as a US held political prisoner framed for the killing of two FBI agent during a US occupation and continued colonization of those who are the descendants of indigenous tribes on the North American continent.
According to a press release
"In 2003, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals found that "Much of the government’s behavior at the Pine Ridge Reservation and in its prosecution of Mr. Peltier is to be condemned. The government withheld evidence. It intimidated witnesses. These facts are not disputed."
As far as we know, there was no call for the release of Leonard Peltier or any other US held political prisoner at the "Justice or Else" rally. It is shameful that the masses don't know about those who fought for justice for their people because those who present themselves as leaders of the mainstream have not informed them.
This month marks the 49th anniversary of the founding of the Black Panther Party that corporate media and right wing blogs have worked continuously hard to distort their legacy. s, we'll try to remember all the panthers still being held unjustly by the US government or forced to live abroad in exile.
Update
Please respectfully write or call the Bureau of Prisons this week urging them to transfer Leonard Peltier to a Medium Security facility due to his serious health conditions. It is the right thing to do. It is the most humane thing to do because Leonard Peltier's freedom should not come home in a pine box. Once again please be very respectful when you call or write. You attract more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

Jalil Abdul Muntaqim aka Anthony Bottom is a former member of both the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Army. He is currently a political prisoner. In 1974, Muntaqim was convicted on two counts of murder in the first degree for killing two police officers and received a prison term of twenty-five years to life. Mr. Muntaqim has a blog and tonight we will read and analyze his most recent post Blog #36: #BlackLivesMatter – FORWARD!!!.
Leonard Peltier is a Native American activist and member of the American Indian Movement. In 1977 he was convicted and sentenced to two consecutive terms of life imprisonment for first-degree murder in the shooting of two Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents during a 1975 conflict on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The International Tribunal of Conscience is being held in New York. New York and Mr. Peltier issued a statement in relation to this event. He will update us the case of Imam Jamil Al-Amin formerly known as H. Rap Brown of the Black Panther Party and SNCC. On Sept 9, 2015, Medical Justice posted a medical emergency concerning Imam Jamil.

While the corporate media and politicians posture on the issue of political prisoners in Cuba in efforts to prevent the economic blockade unjustly imposed by the United States, of course they are being hypocritical considering all the political prisoners held by the USA. This week an article was published showing that the corrupt former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover paid out bonuses after the Omaha Two were convicted on doctored evidence. Mondo We Langa and Ed Poindexter remain imprisoned in Nebraska.
The Justice Is Not For Sale Act 2015 has been presented by Sen. Bernie Sanders, regardless of his spotty history on issues concerning justice, the bill would among other things, would abolish private prisons and jails in the United States and would restore the federal parole system to what it was before Ronald Reagan signed a bill into law requiring federal prisoners to do 85% of their time before being considered for parole. It also takes on the telecommunications and banking services that overcharges prisoners and their families with high fees. You can express your support for passage of the bill by signing the petition to Abolish Private Prisons & Jails.

Tune In for an hour of news, discussion and commentary related to political prisoners held by the USA.
Tonight we hope to host a discussion on the film The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution by Stanley Nelson.
"The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution" Trailer Exclusive from Tambay A Obenson on Vimeo.
In an article by The Daily Beast, Elaine Brown, who led the Black Panther Party from 1974-1977 and ran for president in 2008, has some very strong words in her critique of the film. The former party Chairman was so displeased with the film she wanted her interview portion removed.

Russell Maroon Shoatz Update 8/26/2015
Download Podcast
On tonight's program we will share updates on Russell Maroon Shoatz who is a community activist, founding member of the Black Unity Council, former member of the Black Panther Party, soldier in the Black Liberation Army, and current political prisoner sentenced to life in prison for killing a police officer by a implicitly biased jury not of his peers. He is 72 years old and had been held in solitary confinement for over 22 years. He is a supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement and recovering radiation treatment of prostate cancer.
Considering that many of the current political prisoners who struggled against the same systemic racist polices including police terrorism and that current activists face a similar fate for their activities today, it is essential that the current movement make freeing political prisoners part of any policy demands.

The plight of US held political prisoners from COINTELPRO Era must be addressed #WeTheProtesters
Download Podcast
Tune in for an hour of news, information and commentary on the issue of political prisoners being held by the USA.
Tonight our guest speaker will be attorney, activist and radio broadcaster Efia Nwangaza who will be joining us to discuss the need to keep pressure on the United States government to release COINTELPRO political prisoners particularly those formations like the Black Panther Party which was specifically named and targeted by the FBI because of their their political and social activities in the black community.
According to the political prisoner human rights group Jericho Movement,
COINTELPRO represents a part of American history that we would all like to forget. However, to forget is to repeat. Unfortunately, dozens of women and men are still incarcerated upwards of 40 years as a direct result of this heinous program.
Not only did COINTELPRO seek to defame, neutralize, discredit, and destroy the more militant organizations of that day, viz. the Black Panther Party, Republic of New Afrika, Nation of Islam, American Indian Movement, anti-war, socialist and communist organizations; but it also targeted anyone who stood up against racism and oppression, and who challenged federal and state government to correct these ills and change its policies. The assassination / murder of revolutionary Hugo Pinell
Download Podcast
Tune in for an hour of information and news on political prisoners held by the US government.
Unfortunately we will be focusing on the recent assassination of political prisoner Hugo Pinell who was murdered after finally getting out of solitary confinement where he spent 46 years.
San Francisco Bayview writes,
Hugo Pinell, affectionately known as Yogi Bear, was assassinated Aug. 12. The news sparked a victory celebration by prison guards on social media: “May he rot in hell” and “Good riddens” (sic), they typed. Yogi was the only member of the San Quentin 6 still in prison, and his role in the events of Aug. 21, 1971, the day George Jackson was assassinated, has earned the guards’ incessant enmity ever since.
There appears that prison gangs played a role in Mr. Pinell's murder. We will be joined by Robert Weide who is an assistant professor of Sociology at Cal State Los Angeles with subfield specializations in criminology, urban studies and racial and ethnic relations. He is currently working on two books based on his dissertation research while a student at NYU. Robert's first book will be about inter-racial gang conflict between Black and Latino street gangs in Los Angeles County. His second book will be about historical and contemporary conflict between racialized inmate factions in carceral settings in California.
We will also be joined by Ernest Sheperd (Big Ern) who is a life time supporter of Yogi Pinell. They shared memories in prison together, struggled together and fought oppression together. Big Ern got out of prison but stayed in contact with Yogi and has personal letters where they discussed politics, mass incarceration and the ongoing struggle. Big Ern has a letter he recieved right before the assassination of Yogi. He has a lot to say about his fallen Comrade.

Tune in for an hour of news, information and commentary on the issue of Political Prisoners held by the US government.

With the movement growing to remove not only the Confederate Flag which was removed from SC state house grounds, but the movement to remove monuments to racists, enslavers, mass murderers and land thieves has right wing racists attempting to have historical markers recognizing the social programs of the Black Panther Party. Of course these racists are using disinformation to paint the Panthers as a racist organization. Read more about these racist acts to distort the Panther's legacy.
In the midst of the outrage towards a white dentist who killed and slaughtered a lion named Cecil in Zimbabwe, some people are outraged that so many people care about this crime and are suggesting that there is no outrage for all the senseless killings of Black people by police in the United States. Is there any merit to the claim? Lets briefly discuss it.

Simon Trinidad, the Drug War and the US governmen's meddling
Download Podcast
Tune in for an hour of news, information and conversation around the issue of political prisoners and prisoners of war.
Tonight we will examine the case of Simón Trinidad (born July 30, 1950) is the alias of Juvenal Ovidio Ricardo Palmera Pineda. Trinidad is a high level member of The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia—People's Army whom the United States government tried to frame on drug trafficking charges which failed but was able to convict him a kidnapping that he was not involved in that allegedly occurred in another country.
"For the past seven years, he has been a resident of the U.S. Penitentiary Administrative Maximum, better known as ADX. In the highest-security prison in North America, Trinidad is serving a sixty-year sentence for “conspiracy to commit hostage-taking,” based on a kidnapping that occurred on another continent — and without, his attorneys insist, any direct involvement on his part." - ALAN PRENDERGAST
Lets discuss the audacity of the US government bringing drug trafficking charges against Simón Trinidad while its agents partied with prostitutes in Colombia as well as cutting deals with the Mexican Sinoloa cartel.
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia—People's Army is currently involved in peace negotiations sponsored in Cuba which is celebrating its 56th year of independence from the brutal rule of puppet tyrants controlled by the West.
Two new activist join the ranks of political prisoners in the USA.
"Two animal-rights activists have been charged with terrorizing the fur industry during cross-country road trips in which they released about 5,740 mink from farms and vandalized the homes and businesses of industry members, the FBI said Friday. The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested Joseph Brian Buddenberg, 31, and Nicole Juanita Kissane, 28, both of California, and federal prosecutors charged them with conspiracy to violate the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act." - AP
These "terrorism" charges against animal rights activists are another example that US Attorney General Loretta Lynch was being less than truthful when she indicated that there are no terrorism charges that can be brought against Dylan Roof.
Black Lives Matter demonstrators interrupted a recent presidential debate to force them to discuss the state sponsored terrorism known as police brutality in the United States. In Cleveland where organizers are having a conference, it is being reported that police attacked activist with chemical weapons when they came to the aid of a 14 yr-old attacked by police at a bus stop across the street from the Black Lives Matter conference.

The politics of torture
Download Podcast
Tune in for an hour of news and information related to US held political prisoners and prisoners of war.
Late last week it came to light that the prominent psychologists outside of the CIA shielded the program when the CIA's own health professionals repeatedly criticized the torture involved in that agency’s post-Sept. 11 so-called interrogation program. As this news comes out, where are the health professionals on the torture of solitary confinement in US prisons? Many political prisoners have been held in solitary confinement for decades although the international community views it as torture.
Palestinian Political Prisoner Rasmea Odeh was "sentenced to eighteen months in prison and a fine of one thousand dollars for lying on an immigration and citizenship application." The Federal prosecutor in the case used a confession Rasmea Odeh made in a 1969 “terrorism” conviction in an Israeli military court to prove she lied on her US immigration application by failing to disclose it. Odeh maintains that the confession was false and she only gave it after weeks of torture and sexual assault by the Israelis. She is appealing her conviction and remains free on bond.
Artist/activist Brandan "Bmike" Odums recently created a large mural to bring attention to Albert Woodfox's plight. Woodfox is one of the prisoners known as the Angola 3, he is the last remaining member behind bars after being wrongfully convicted of the murder of a prison guard in the 1970s. The three men, Woodfox, Robert King and Herman Wallace started a prison chapter of the Black Panther Party and organized prisoners to stand up for their human rights.
Family and advocates want supporters of former Black Panther member Robert Seth Hayes to continue to call in for his health campaign. Get details from our pinned post on our Facebook page Political Prisoner Radio.

In a case related to the recent SCOTUS decision in marriage equality, a controversy erupted when actor George Takei who is gay, called Justice Clarence Thomas a "clown in blackface". He has since apologized for his incorrect name calling but expect no apologies from Justice Thomas who said that the state can not take a person's dignity in his dissenting opinion in the case. You used slavery as an example and we want to discuss in the context of modern slavery and abuses suffered
by US held Political Prisoners & Prisoners of War.
