Elizabeth Tran parents immigrated from Hong Kong and Vietnam to pursue the American Dream in Florida. The two met at a Disney college program working at Chinese restaurant in Epcot. This would eventually come back around as Elizabeth participated in the Disney Friends for Change Program as an adolescent.Elizabeth’s parents being immigrants of asian descent with a drive to succeed put a huge emphasis on success through academics. She went through school remaining a straight-A student at the top of her class. While Elizabeth was very intelligent, the word ‘pageant’ just wasn’t in her vocabulary. It all started with a letter in the mail from National American Miss. She learned that this was a competition where girls would wear dresses, but didn’t know anything else. Can you blame her though? She was only 8 years old!For four years Elizabeth competed in National American Miss Florida and the Miss American Coed pageants, never placing once. She would usually be close to last place at the local or preliminary level. She developed a mindset where she never expected to win, so she focused on having fun each year. Katherine McQuade was born and raised in Whitestone, New York. While she grew up as a timid child, her mom always instilled in her communication skills, confidence, poise and grace.As a young child, Katherine started opening up to her natural skills and talents through dance. Through the Landrum School of Performing Arts Company Dance Team she was able to dance competitively for over a decade. It is one of Katherine’s ambitions to be a Radio City Music Hall Rockett.One lesson that Katherine learned through dance was to always win and lose graciously, a humble experience for any competitor. Her journey began competing in the National American Miss system, a pageant system that is widely regarded as one of the best for developing young women’s confidence and self-esteem through its competition. Olivia Culpo was born in Cranston, Rhode Island to her parents Gus and Sophie. Olivia was the middle child of five siblings. She remembers getting along with her siblings, and the occasional argument or two between them. But who doesn’t bicker with their siblings, right?Her parents are the co-owners of several Boston Businesses, cafes and restaurants, which sparked Olivia’s culinary interest ever since she was younger. Olivia came from a large Italian family which sparked a tradition of large parties and food.Olivia began the cello in the second grade from her parents' encouragement. This became something she continued to pursue throughout her education. She performed with the Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble, the Bay View Orchestra, and the Rhode Island All-State Orchestra.She won the title of Miss Rhode Island USA 2012 on her first try when she was just 18 years old. She went on to compete at Miss USA was crowned the 61st Miss USA 2012 in her second pageant ever. Victoria Mendoza was born in El Paso, Texas but grew up in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona. She is a middle child of an older brother and a younger sister. Her fourth additional sibling growing up was her dog, Oliver. Victoria lived in a very loving family of Mexican descent. Her parents have been together for almost 30 years, now that is something to brag about!Her family was very close and enjoyed doing many activities together, including fishing, playing sports, and spending lots of time outdoors. From skiing in the winter to boating in the summer, Victoria grew up very humbly blessed with her family.One of Victoria’s passions includes her love of dance. She was a competitive dancer for 8 years, and loves ballet, jazz and hip hop. Not only that, but she also taught herself to play the piano.Victoria’s pageant and modelling career began at the tender age of 13 years old. She’s won the titles of Miss Jr. Teen Arizona in 2011 in National American Miss. Misha Grimes is a 21 year old fashion model and social media personality who was born and raised in England. Her YouTube channel has more than 225,000 followers and has racked up more than 33 million views. You probably remember Gazini Ganados as being the reigning Binibining Pilipinas 2019 queen. Gazini won the title and this allowed her to represent the Philippines at the 2019 Miss Universe Pageant.Gazini’s journey begins in Dapitan City in the Philippines. In sixth grade her family moved to Cebu where she spent most of her life. Growing up without a father figure allowed Gazini to hold a higher respect for her grandfather and grandmother. They stepped in to help raise her and taught her how precious life is. Gazini’s pageant journey took her to the Miss World Philippines 2014 pageant. In 2015, she represented Sinulog Festival in Cebu and finished as the second runner-up and the following year she was crowned Miss Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation INC. Corrin Stellakis grew up in a very small town called Bridgeport on a family owned horse farm. If you think having pets teaches children about responsibility at a young age, you can multiply that amount by 10 when it comes to taking care of animals on a farm.She grew up mucking stalls, cleaning water buckets, and riding horses daily. Her and her mother began an after-school horse program called “A Horse of Course”. There were lessons and programs for kids available, and Corrin loved sharing her passion for horses to other young souls. At the age of 12 she joined an interscholastic equestrian team and was able to compete all over the United States. Corrin also had a very unique experience when it came to siblings since her family was involved in a foster care program for about four years. Corrin Stellakis had two biological brothers and about 17 foster brothers and sisters growing up that her family opened up their home for. This was a great learning experience due to the responsibility it taught her and helped her grow up quickly through changing diapers to helping kids on heart monitors.She attended Chittenango Highschool where she played varsity volleyball. Something she learned through playing a team-based sport was how to win together, and how to lose together. Corrin also always felt that her team was winners because of the character they showed on the court. They would leave their blood, sweat, and tears just to ensure they gave it their all. High school was a pivotal moment in Corrin’s pageant career as well. Her school was home of L Frank Baum, the author of the ‘Wonderful Wizard of Oz’. Alyssa Klinzing is a seasoned pageant contestant and queen, and she is one of those girls you will always get excited to see on stage. Alyssa has competed in the Miss Teen USA pageant, Miss Kansas’s Outstanding Teen, Teen Miss Earth United States, Miss California USA, Miss Kansas USA, and at Miss USA 2019. In 1997, Alyssa was born and raised in Modesto California. She lived in Northern California, then Long Beach, and then Boston before moving to Kansas. She attended Olathe North High School in Kansas. Alyssa’s natural beauty queen abilities were evident in high school. She was crowned the Homecoming Princess representing the class of 2016. She began her pageant journey in 2012 and is still planning on competing in the near future! Alyssa is a professional model with a degree in political science. She wow-ed the audience at Miss USA 2019 with her beauty and brains. She emphasizes how important it is for women to be represented in politics. Like many of the best, Alyssa has a great deal of volunteer service under her sparkly rhinestone pageant belt. Riza Santos is one of the few contestants to ever go to Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Earth! She was born in a rural town in Alberta and grew up in Calgary, a larger city in the province of Alberta. She grew up in a culturally diverse family, and is a mix of Spanish, Chinese, and Filipino. This allowed her to look at her life and travels as an opportunity to live out her natural curiosity and drive for experience. Early in life, she was taught the value of critical thought and the pursuit of knowledge. Riza was well-influenced by her parents, who were immigrants, and her grandparents.Riza also lived in the Philippines for a while working alongside the Canadian International Development Agency through the PEARL Project. While residing in the Philippines, Riza Joined Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2 and was proclaimed as the second place in the show in 2007 after gardening half a million votes. Amanda Moreno has been in the pageant industry for over 19 years. She has made her way around the block through competing in pageant competitions and now she is using her years of experience to coach young princesses on how to become pageant queens.Some of her own crowning accomplishments include winning National All-American Miss 2011-2012 and Miss International 2016. Understandably she has the perfect personal insight in these, and many other systems in the United States, to help women win these titles too. Some of these women include Ava Hill Miss International 2019 and Ashlee Nelson National American Miss 2019-2020.Amanda was born and raised in Atlanta Georgia, which is known for having a variety of pageants for girls of all ages. Growing up, Amanda described herself as being a tomboy. She loved playing soccer, softball and many sports. Her Colombian family roots instilled a love for soccer especially when she was young. Although she was a tomboy on the outside, her heart was filled with princess-like dreams. This probably stemmed from her family’s annual trips to Walt Disney ever since she was three years old. Christmas time was one of the best for the Moreno family since they were able to spend time in the most magical place in the world. Amanda’s love of Walt Disney inspired her to name her dog Walt Ray Moreno!One of the most characteristic things about Amanda when you see her is her bright and joyful smile. Unfortunately, there were people who took her smile away at a young age. She was bullied a lot when she was younger about her weight, her hair, and everything else a young girl should not have to be concerned about. This led her to having very low self esteem, and eventually developing an eating disorder for three years. The pain she experienced at this time would be the catalyst to energize her to empower thousands of young women around the world to develop the skills to not face the same hardships she did. Sarah Rose Summers is a Nebraskan beauty who has won the state titles of Miss Nebraska Teen USA and Miss Nebraska USA as well as the national title of National American Miss. But let’s be real, we all know her best for being the very first woman from Nebraska to win the title of Miss USA in 2018.Her work as a Child Life Specialist helps her to be compassionate and understanding to people she meets both inside and outside of work. With her unique and caring perspective, she has been able to travel across the United States inspiring many.Sarah Rose was born in Omaha, Nebraska and grew up in Papillion. Omaha doesn’t exactly scream ‘Miss USA’ pageant community, but it did breed a great support system for Sarah Rose to grow up in. However, when you think about it, we’ve had a Miss America in Teresa Scanlan and a Miss USA from Nebraska in the last decade, which not many states can say.Sarah grew up watching her mom try all of the diets, but then she joined a program where she learned to eat nutritious foods in healthy portions. She found a program that worked for her and lost 75 lbs. While Sarah was able to see her mom find success, this still impacted her mindset as a young girl when it came to eating and training when she joined the pageant world. Sarah Rose is extremely passionate about encouraging others to have a healthy relationship with food and fitness. Mia Jones is a triple threat state titleholder after winning the titles of Miss Delaware Teen USA 2014, Miss Delaware USA 2017, and Miss Delaware Earth USA 2019. A graduate from Delaware State University, Mia graduated with a major in art education and now works as a middle school teacher. She experienced racism and bullying at a young age which is when she turned to art for comfort. She has been able to turn this therapeutic coping technique into a platform and a career to help other children express their internal creativity.Mia’s life turned around when she realized she had talent, her education, and her story to share with others. No matter where you are in the world, you have heard about the Black Lives Matter movement reaching new heights in the United States. This is due to a largely politicized case of a man named George Floyd being killed at the hands of the police during an arrest on video. This shed a light on continued challenges with police brutality and the black community. You might be thinking, “why is Pageant Planet covering this, they should stick to pageants”. Though, this issue has started in America, where we are based, the ripple effect has been felt globally. Depending on your pageant you could be asked about this in pageant interview, so this will help. Vanessa Lachey was born in Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines almost 40 years ago. She has an older brother, who is adopted.Vanessa’s father was in the Air Force which meant they did not settle permanently into the places they travelled to. Vanessa calls her and her brother ‘Air Force brats’, which is a term used for military kids who travel constantly. Within her first nine years of schooling, Vanessa attended eight different schools. After over 10 years of military service, her family settled down in Charleston, South Carolina. Here, Vanessa was able to have a more stable school life. She was able to join cheerleading, compete in pageants and could enjoy living in one place. She went on to win the Miss Teen USA After her success in pageantry, she became a fashion-model for brands like BONGO Jeans and Flirt! Cosmetics. She appeared on magazine covers for SHAPE, Lucky and Maxim. Maxim also ranked Vanessa in its annual Hot 100 Issue several years in a row, ranking at #15 in 2006.It was around this time that Vanessa also began her career on television, working on MTV and Entertainment Tonight. There is no doubt that her success in pageantry and in modeling gave her a great resume to become a successful TV actress, correspondent and host. While hosting MTVs Total Request Live, Vanessa interviewed a very famous Hollywood couple at the time, Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, regarding their relationship and show ‘Newlyweds’. Over the years, Vanessa and Nick would see each other through the media, but remained as acquaintances. Sarah Bazey is identified as “One woman’s inspiring path from helicopter crash survivor to Mrs. International 2012.” She is a former pageant queen, a Harvard Business School graduate, and an accomplished business professional. You may have known this from her website www.sarahbazey.com, but we are going to learn more about her and how she became Mrs. International 2012 and the leader in manufacturing reinforced steel used in concrete paving throughout Canada and the United States.Sarah had been competing in pageants since 1983. Sarah started her pageant journey with American Pageants when it was the Miss Teen of America organization. She purchased the program in 2014 and it was rebranded to American Pageants in 2017 when she expanded it to additional age divisions. Her first pageant was Miss Teen of Minnesota which she won. This opened up many opportunities for her when she learned the true beauty of pageantry is to better yourself, the people around you and to build lasting relationships. This allowed her to compete at Miss Teen of America in 1984 where she remained a finalist. After Sarah competed in Miss Teen of America, she went on to support the organization as a staff assistant and became close with the founder, Warren Alexander. He encouraged her to branch out and compete in the Miss America system. Her original talent was figure skating on plastic ice, however, when MAO established a time limit for set ups she had to find a different talent. Olivia Miller reigns from Delphos, Ohio and has been involved in the USA National Miss since 2015. It took Olivia four long and dedicated years to finally obtain the title. Each time coming back as a wiser and more experienced version of herself paid off! USA National Miss is an award winning national pageant organization that enriches the lives of young women just like Olivia. The national anti-bullying platform The Crown C.A.R.E.S. is very close to what Olivia has been advocating for in her personal life.Olivia created her own anti-bullying organization, called #BeTheOne, and has now become a platform to promote volunteer opportunities to students. Her message is simply to be a buddy, not a bully. She also created “Adopt a Grandparent” as a way for the youth to volunteer at nursing homes. They also collect donations for families experiencing crises related to a tornado and famine.Get this, Olivia is still only 22 years old and has her whole life ahead of her. She is majoring in business with a concentration in marketing and is looking forward to exploring exciting business opportunities!Winning the title of USA National Miss 2019 also allowed her to win a scholarship of five thousand dollars to achieve her academic goals. She’s an American journalist, model and beauty queen. She’s Alexandra LaForce, or Allie as she’s best known. Allie is a former Miss Ohio Teen USA 2005 and she also won the title Miss Teen USA 2005. Although this was fifteen years ago she is still making a name for herself!Allie was born and raised in Vermilion, Ohio. Allie’s parents were college athletes which trickled their talents into their three children. Her father played in two Stagg Bowls for the Wittenberg Tigers, and her mother was a tennis player and cheerleader.Allie is the oldest sibling. Growing up, Allie enjoyed being a role model to her younger brother, Jack, and sister, Aubree, and felt it was important to lead by example. Allie was able to do this by contributing to a number of charities including “Friends of Lorain Foundation”, “Day of Caring”, “Relay for Life" and “Spring Spruce Up.” Each of these organizations aim to make a difference by fundraising, bringing awareness to important issues, promoting literacy and assisting the elderly with yard duties.Allie excelled in volunteering, sports and academics. She received Outstanding Department Student for History and Mathematics, the Students Helping Students Community Volunteer Certificate and the ‘Archie Griffith Award’ for Best Scholar Athlete. Clearly, the things that Allie invested her time into, she succeeded in.She also began competing in pageants in her junior year at Vermilion High School. She described herself as a jock, but a jock who liked to wear pretty dresses. She played volleyball and Varsity basketball, and was a pitcher on her school’s varsity fast-pitch softball team. But if anything, these things helped her immensely in her pageant journey.When Allie wasn’t volunteering, maintaining her academics, or playing sports, she was the school’s on-camera interviewers at football games. Gracie Hunt was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Gracie was raised by her mother, Tavia Shackles, and father, Clark Hunt. Gracie has a younger sister named Ava and a younger brother who is 17. Her and her sister share a birthday. Just two weeks ago on March 29, 2020, Gracie turned 21 and Ava turned 14. Gracie grew up in a sports-loving family. Her grandfather, Lamar Hunt, is known for founding several sports leagues and teams, including the American Football League in 1960, which eventually became the NFL. He also founded the North American Soccer League, which eventually became the MLS - Major League Soccer. Her family is also involved in the NBA and is a minority owner in the NBA team, the Chicago Bulls.Gracie’s first pageant was Miss Texas Teen International in 2016. The pageant is based on platform and community service. Gracie’s experience in sports and working with the special olympics gave her a competitive edge amongst the competition. Today we are going to be taking a look at a contestant that will be competing for Miss USA 2020, Rachel Slawson, our Miss Utah USA 2020.Rachel has gained a lot of publicity since her win at Miss Utah USA. Not only because this is her fifth time competing for a state title in the USA system, but because she is the first openly bisexual contestant to compete at Miss USA.This time competing, Rachel chose to disclose onstage her sexual preference, and looks forward to carrying her genuine and authentic self all the way to the Miss USA stage. Pageants have evolved over the years, and so has society with the growing acceptance of individuals from LGBTQ. This year is another example of how we are seeing the two grow together.Rachel is also eager to share her platform of suicide prevention and mental health by travelling to schools and youth groups across Utah. Born in Sincelejo, Colombia, grew up in Barranquilla. Ariadna Gutierrez was born on Christmas Day, and is 26 years old. She grew up with her parents and four older siblings. An interesting fact is that she is a cousin of Miss Universe 2014 and Miss Colombia 2013, Paulina Vega. Family is very important to Ariadna. She has 10 nieces and nephews that she loves to spoil!Ariadna Gutierrez studied at the German School of Barranquilla, and she speaks Spanish, English, and German fluently. Ariadna described her childhood as being very good because her parents were able to give their family a great life. She is known as the cat lady because she has two cats she loves very much. She is currently living in Miami, Florida. She is working as a model for Elite Miami and has most recently modeled for the 2019 Sports Illustrated "Sweet 17."Ariadna now enjoys spending her days modeling, traveling and posting videos on her youtube channel which has over 150 thousand subscribers. Cara Mund was born and raised in Bismarck, North Dakota. At a young age, Cara showed interest in the arts and dance. She began dancing at the age of two. This allowed her to train for four summers with the Radio City Rockettes, an iconic American dance team. Cara became well versed in many extra-curricular activities in highschool. She attended Century High School and graduated as the class valedictorian. Cara was part of the school’s Speech Team, the cheerleading team, the National Honor Society president, and the girls state and girls nation programs, to name a few.She began pageantry as a child, capturing the titles of Little Miss North Dakota, Miss Pre-Teen North Dakota, and Miss Junior Teen North Dakota.In 2010, she was Miss Red River Valley’s Outstanding Teen. She then went on to compete at Miss North Dakota’s Outstanding Teen in 2010, where she won the state title. This allowed her to compete at Miss America's Outstanding Teen 2011. She also was the 4th runner-up at the Miss North Dakota Teen USA 2012 pageant.After graduating from Brown University, Cara’s heart was set on the Miss America pageant. In 2016, she was Miss Oil Country and placed as the first runner-up at Miss North Dakota 2016. Close, but not close enough for Cara. Only a year later, Cara competed at the Miss North Dakota 2017 pageant as Miss Northern Lights, and this time she did not fall short. Andreia Gibau is a first-generation immigrant to the United States. She was born in Cape Verde which is a group of 10 islands on the west coast of Africa, and her family moved to Brockton, Massachusetts when she was seven years old to have a future with better opportunities. Her family settled in Brockton, Massachusetts where Andreia grew up and experienced life. She speaks four languages with Portuguese being her first. Opportunities were abundant in Andreia’s life at a young age. She began modeling and acting at the age of 12. She has modeled for designers like Helen Castillo, Mori Lee and Mac Duggal.In high school, Andreia was part of the drama club. She was introduced to pageants in high school by a teacher, but held off on this opportunity for a few years. In 2013, Andreia moved to New York City to attend St. John’s University. Darcy Castro is a writer, creator, and an advocate. She is an experienced pageant queen with a heart of gold, and amongst her pageantry successes has won the Elite National American Woman of Service 2019. Darcy became quite the successful pageant competitor in her time competing as a Miss, winning several local titles. After taking time to focus on her career and her family, she returned to the pageant stage in her 40’s and won her first national title. She is a mother of four who devotes her time to her family, her work as a marketing communications consultant and professional writer, and to her community. Darcy has dedicated copious amounts of her time to serving her community in many different ways, and has received numerous awards for her efforts.Darcy is now an advocate for helping children with parents diagnosed with a brain tumour, as Darcy’s father suffered a brain tumour when she was younger. She has now written a detailed book about her experience to help children ages 7-13 years old who may be experiencing similar circumstances.Darcy’s other platform is focused on respecting ourselves and our community. Today we are going to be talking more about Kaliegh Garris, the current Miss Teen USA 2019. In April 2019, Kaliegh Garris brought the state of Connecticut its second Miss Teen USA title after Logan West’s win in 2012. The pageant was held in Reno, Nevada.18 year-old Kaliegh is now a national titleholder, competitive dancer, model and student. All of which are even more impressive considering she is still in high school.Kaliegh has set the bar high for other teen contestants competing in pageants across America. Kaliegh volunteers at children’s hospitals, travels to New York to model and is an excellent speaker. Her life experiences made her the perfect choice for Miss Teen USA 2019.In pageantry, it is important to have a platform to represent throughout your reign, even as a teen. Kaliegh is actively promoting ‘We Are People First’ which recognizes that people with disabilities should not be, and are not defined by their disability. This platform was inspired by her sister who has multiple disabilities. Throughout her year as Miss Teen USA 2019, Kaliegh has been seen with big sister Miss USA 2019, Cheslie Kryst, along with Miss America 2019 Nia Franklin. Alayah Benavidez was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Growing up, Alayah’s ambitions did not know any limits. Dreams of becoming a professional model, pageant queen, author and professor were never just dreams to her, they were something she could make a reality.We all know that most pageant queen success stories do not come without some sort of hardship along the way. In high school, Benavidez was diagnosed with dyslexia and was told she should switch her classes to get additional help, and that she should expect a change in her grades. While these professionals probably had good intentions with telling Alayah the reality of what her expectations should be, this simply did not fit into Alayah’s mindset.Dyslexia could have been the disability that held Alayah back, but instead to propelled her forward, stronger and more determined than ever. Her life motto then became, “work smarter and strive harder.” This helped her excel in AP and dual credit classes.Alayah knows how important reading and writing is to help children in their academic success. This is what inspired her to develop a literacy program for children called ‘Read The Way.’ A common saying that Alayah promotes is, “if you read today, you can lead tomorrow.”In August 2016, Alayah Benavidez captured the title of Miss United States 2016. Miss United States is a national pageant that celebrates women of all walks of life. It empowers its contestants and titleholders to be good and give back to those less fortunate. "Ava Hill” is a 22-year-old from Kindred, North Dakota. Ava is truly the ‘girl-next-door.’ She enjoys spending time with her family, watching Netflix, snuggling with her cat named Pringles and drinking coffee. She likes to start off each morning with a cup of coffee…. Or five.Although she has made her way to the top of the pageant world you won’t typically find her wearing heels, but you can always find her with a book or in the dance studio. She enjoys coaching her former dance team, the Kindred Vikettes. Dance is not the only thing that Ava is talented in though. At the age of 15, Ava auditioned for ‘The Voice.’ She is also a guitarist and a music writer. Ava’s artistic talents spill over into her professional life as a makeup artist. At the age of 19 she graduated from Faces etc. of Minnesota. She is now a business owner of Ava Hill Artistry. She has also won several awards as a makeup artist. Ava thinks that the most important piece of makeup is lipstick, and that a look is never complete without it!The business world of makeup is not always as glamorous as it may seem. Ava travels mostly within North Dakota, Minnesota and California for a variety of events. Many days are spent doing administration work including writing scripts, writing invoices, scheduling and spending time sending out emails.She got engaged to the love of her life, Grant Harner, on September 28, 2019.Ava’s pageant journey began in the beginning stages of her recovery. Her mother suggested that it may be a good idea to help her gain self-esteem and create purpose in her life. Ava’s mother is a former Miss North Dakota International as well. Ava did not see this for herself. At the time she had purple and grey hair, piercings and tattoos. Not the ‘typical look’ for a pageant girl in her mind. In just two years, to her surprise, she won the title of Miss North Dakota International 2019. Zozibini Tunzi was born in Tolso Eastern Cape located in South Africa. Here she grew up with her parents and three other sisters. She is the second oldest of her siblings. Zozi grew up close with her family and considered her parents her role models.“My mother taught me the importance of being kind and humble and always helpful to those around me and my father taught me the importance of education, hard work, and discipline.”Growing up some of Zozi’s hobbies included hiking, cooking, and watching her favourite television shows. If you’re doing these hobbies right now, maybe you can also be the next Miss Universe? Surely she didn’t know at those moments what she was destined to become.Zozi grew up truly just like any other woman might have. She loves watching Marvel movies and Game of Thrones. She attended Cape Peninsula University of Technology and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Image Management in 2018. Zozi worked as a graduate intern in the public relations department of Ogilvy Cape Town. She also went on to complete a Bachelor of TechnologyZozi’s love for education most likely came from her parent as her mother is a school principal and her father works at the Department of Higher Learning in Pretoria. Aside from getting her post-secondary education, Zozi also worked as a model in East London, Eastern Cape.In 2018, Zozi entered the reality TV show Presenter Search. Betty Cantrell Maxwell was born and raised in Warner Robins, Georgia. This 25 year old beauty queen was ironically named after her Greek Grandmother, Baciliky, which means ‘Royalty’. Growing up, Betty lived the true country girl life as her and her family lives on a 675-acre farm in rural Georgia. She knows how to drive a full-sized John Deere tractor, plow and seed fields, and she can even handle a shotgun. She grew up in a strong Greek Orthodox family and attended church all her life in Macon, Georgia. Betty finds strength in her faith and carried this with her throughout her life and pageant career.Betty started taking professional vocal and stage lessons at 14. She loved to write songs but would never show anyone. In eighth grade, she got the lead role in the school play. She was never an A-student, and didn’t enjoy the sciences or math. But when it came to the arts, Betty was first place in all the poetry contests and talent shows. She studied at Mount de Sales Academy for high school and then went on to study vocal performance at Mercer University. She holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal performance.Betty clearly had all of the roots to make a great national American titleholder, which lead her to join her first pageant in 2013. Her mother encouraged her to join for the scholarship opportunities, but clearly Betty was meant for much more!She held two first-runner up positions in preliminary pageants during her early years competing, and then won the Miss Presidential Pathways 2014 as a major title in the Miss Georgia 2014 pageant.That year she placed as the second runner-up at Miss Georgia with a vocal performance as her talent and representing the platform Healthy Georgia, Strong America. Won the title of Miss Warner Robins 2015 where she advanced to the Miss Georgia America 2015 pageant. Betty then went on to win the Miss Georgia 2015 pageant on June 20, 2015. Betty was awarded $15,000 in scholarship money, plus a Kia Sorento during her reign. Betty excelled in talent, evening wear, and on-stage question, making her an excellent, and well-prepared candidate for the upcoming Miss America competition.This is all very impressive for a country girl who never saw herself becoming a pageant queen! Jackie Watson is the woman we are going to be taking a look at today, which some of you may know as the Director of the system USA National Miss.Jackie Watson is a natural leader as she spent years directing a state pageant, which she founded. Now running for 9 years, the USA National Miss Systems is one of the highest regarded national pageant scholarship systems in America. Jackie prides her brand on advocating for positive pageantry who loves God.This national pageant director started her involvement in pageantry as a pageant mom.Jackie’s daughter, Kayla, started competing in pageants when she was 7 years old and this kick started the families pageant journey. In today’s podcast we are going to be talking about a woman well known in the Miss America, Miss USA, and Mrs America organizations, Mekayla Eppers.Mekayla began her pageant journey at 12 years old and has captured seven pageant titles in her life, including the titles of Miss Indiana USA 2016 and Mrs. America 2018.While some people know Mekayla for her success in the pageant industry, she is more than just a beauty queen. Mekayla is a model and has been featured in TV commercials, in movies, and in fashion magazines. From her experience in modeling and in pageants she knew she wanted to make a mindset shift in the industry from focusing on ‘size’ and ‘shape’ towards adapting a healthy lifestyle. Mekayla Diehl (her maiden name) was born in 1988 in Elkhart, Indiana. Now Mekayla describes herself as a ‘Michiana’ since the town is on the Michigan and Indiana state line.Mekayla is a descendent from the Ojibwe tribe, a member of the Ontario-based Zhiibaahaasing First Nation through her mother.For the most part, a child’s life is known as an innocent and youthful experience where the child can live, learn and play. This was not the case for Mekayla. She was sexually abused by a family friend which led to her grandmother adopting and raising her.However, what can be described as the unthinkable is not what Mekayla’s childhood is known for. She began her modeling career at just 5 years old, which gave her the opportunity to walk in various local and state fashion shows, model for swimsuit brands and clothing lines, and also appear on TV commercials. She has modeled from some pretty well-known brands including Toyota, Subway, Cadillac, Nissan, and Chevrolet.Aside from modeling, Mekayla is also a very talented dancer. She began dancing at the age of 12 up until her college years. She performed tap, jazz, ballet on pointe, hip hop, modern, and is currently dabbling in ballroom.Her talents do not stop there. Lorraine Schuck’s pageant career dates back to over 40 years ago. Lorraine won the title of Mutya ng Pilipinas 1979.Mutya ng Pilipinas began over 51 years ago in 1968, and it’s titleholders have gone on to win 15 of the largest international pageant titles in the world. The pageant is best known for promoting tourism in Asia, social responsibility, fashion, and beauty pageantry.Lorraine was chosen to compete at the international Miss Asia Quest 1979 pageant which was held in Manila, Philippines. 15 countries competed for the title, but Alya Altas from Turkey was the one who took home the title.Lorraine represented the Philippines and made her country proud by placing as the second runner-up to winner Alya Altas from Turkey, and first runner-up Maureen Lestourgeon from India. Lestourgeon was unable to fulfill the duties and Schuck was then moved into the position as the first runner-up.If the Miss Asia Quest pageant is an unfamiliar name, it is because the pageant has since rebranded itself in 2016 to be called the Miss Asia Pacific International pageant. Lorraine since became the Executive Vice President of the organization named Carousel Productions Inc, which owns the Miss Earth and Miss Earth Philippines pageants.Schuck is the executive vice president and co-founder, next to President/Businessman Ramon Mon-zon. Kendra Hale is an only child who grew up in a small town in rural southwestern Virginia called, Christiansburg. She graduated as valedictorian from Christiansburg High School and the Southwest Virginia Governor’s School.  Kendra recalls that in her hometown, pageants were not common and many people didn’t understand the different aspects of being involved in pageants such as going after scholarships, being goal-oriented, and being of service. She believes in “leading by example” so she worked hard to prove to everybody that pageants were filled with smart, accomplished girls that were working hard on achieving their dreams.Kendra says, “I wanted to be an inspiration to young girls everywhere by showing that your circumstances and surroundings don’t define who you are or who you will become.” Kendra’s pageant journey started when she was 13 or 14 and shortly thereafter became involved with the Princess America pageant system. She first won the title of Princess America’s District of Columbia Teen, and eventually she became Princess America’s District of Columbia Miss.Kendra demonstrated her pageant promise early on, and began earning titles and awards almost instantly. During her pageant experience with Princess America she won the “Princess America’s Difference Maker Award”, as well as the “Princess America’s Leadership and Academic Excellence Award”.Once this fresh faced Virginia girl got bitten by the pageant bug, there was no turning back and soon she had earned her 1st national title, “Outstanding Miss of America 2016-2017”.Kendra admits that her introduction to the world of pageantry was difficult because she really had no frame of reference for competing, nor did she know anyone who competed. But, she didn’t let her lack of knowledge intimidate her or make her feel inadequate. Today’s podcast features none other than Paula Shugart, who is the beloved president of the Miss Universe organization, as every fan of the pageant knows. With more than 30 years of experience in the television industry, Paula Shugart has been a driving force in entertainment television production for domestic and international audiences.As president of the Miss Universe Organization (MUO), and producer of the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants, Paula oversees all business transactions and is responsible for the production of the live, worldwide telecasts each year.Paula’s father was an Admiral in the US Navy, and she says her childhood really helped to prepare her for her current role as the president of an international organization. She believes that her global travels left her with a deep appreciation and understanding of the world’s cultural diversity as well as its commonality.But, as much as she loved being a “Navy Brat”, when it came time to attend college, Paula says that she just wanted to go someplace new…without a Navy base. She had grown tired of living in a coastal city like San Diego and just wanted to live in a location that was different and challenging.She found that new and different place in the Midwest. Paula chose Ohio University, which consistently ranks as one of the top schools in the country for television communication. Paula graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1981, with a BS in Communications, focusing on journalism and production, which was absolutely the right career path for her.In 1982, after finishing college, Paula packed her bags and headed from Ohio to the center of television production: Sunny California! After only five days in Los Angeles, she met Kevin Bright (who was the Executive Producer of the TV show “Friends”) and he gave Paula her first big break, and that meeting began her career in production. From 1982 to 2002 Paula was busy making quite a name for herself, and success seemed to come naturally to the Admiral’s personable daughter. She was based in Los Angeles and developed a specialty in live television production while working on some of the world’s largest productions: the “Academy Awards,” “American Music Awards,” “Golden Globes,” “International Rock Awards,” and “President Clinton’s 50th Birthday Celebration,” among many others.She also served as a producer on the original talent competition, “Star Search” for seven years, as well as a multitude of other programs including the Lifetime Special “The Age of the Female Icon,” which garnered a Cable Ace Award nominationPaula became so accomplished at handling the monumental task of producing major events that she got involved in the music industry. Paula was involved in producing two legendary artist’s television productions: Madonna on her “Blond Ambition Tour” and the Rolling Stones on their “Steel Wheels Tour.” And, if that wasn’t impressive enough, she even forayed into the world of daytime television as Supervising Producer for ABC’s talk show “Mike & Maty” and then went on to produce the pilot for the highly popular “Donny and Marie Show” for Columbia Television. Paula is an active member of the Director’s Guild of America and the Producers Guild of America and has served as a Commissioner to Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Latin Media and Entertainment Commission.She was also named a member of the Women's Leadership Board at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. Before he became known as, Mac Duggal, one of the most successful and well known fashion designers in the world, he was called, “Manmohan Singh Duggal”.He was born in New Delhi (Deli), India, in 1960 to a very spiritual family, where his grandfather, father and brother, were all the heads of an international spiritual organization that teaches a form of meditation and ethical living to millions of people, all around the world. The basics principles of their teachings are meditation, truthfulness, and vegetarianism.Mac Duggal has said that that all three of those men were significant mentors in his life and he believes they each played a significant role in the person that he is today.He practices a religion called Sikhism. Sikhism believes in one higher power and one higher consciousness and that everyone is equal. He says that these concepts were essentially the same as the American values he saw when he moved to the United States, and it was one of the reasons he was so attracted to the U.S.In Sikhism all men wear a turban, and the women keep their hair long and don’t ever cut it.For the Sikhs, the turban means responsibility and promotes equality. It also preserves their Sikh identity. When a boy becomes an adult, somebody respectable from the community ties the turban on their head for the first time. Mac Duggal says that he was really lucky and honored because his own father tied the turban on him for the first time.Education, music, and spirituality were constant values in the family’s home, and seemed to permeate everyday life.But, Mac Duggal says that even more important to him, was the love that came so effortlessly from his parents, not only towards his family members, but also to all the diverse people who came seeking spiritual guidance from all over the world.All throughout his childhood, Mac Duggal was introduced to incredible people from all cultures, and his horizons expanded greatly as a result. Hannah Brown grew up in Tuscaloosa Alabama and is a major Crimson Tide fan! She graduated magna cum laude from theUniversity of Alabama in 2017, the same college that her parents attended, where she earned her degree in communications and Information Sciences with a minor in public relations.She became a sister of Alpha Chi Omega sorority during her time in college and served as a consultant to the university, helping clients with public speaking. Then she worked as an interior designer after college.The Northport native began competing in pageants when she was 15 because of the opportunities for scholarships. The Miss America Pageant found its origins nearly 100 years ago, in the month of September. The pageant was first held on September 25, 1920. It was billed as the “Fall Frolic” and began simply as a marketing idea The event was so successful that the originators scheduled it to take place the week-end following Labor Day, to encourage summer visitors to stay in Atlantic City. Therefore, the first official, “Miss America” was held on September 8, 1921; 98 years ago!The competition has come a long way since then. Osmel Sousa had a dream that was born out of an obsession with beauty. He longed to create a world that was filled with beauty of every kind. Like many artists, his desire to be surrounded by beauty was to somehow erase the ugliness and pain that he witnessed and internalized as a child.As a boy, he remembers spending all of his time drawing. He would draw rows of women – always women – and then pick out the best and draw them again with all sorts of dresses that he would clip on and off. In essence, he was designing a fashion show. One day his mother saw him and forbade him from ever doing it again. She couldn’t stand the thought that he was making silly little "paper dolls".He suffered from learning disabilities that went undiagnosed until he was an adult, so he constantly struggled with his studies. But, instead of sitting in class and feeling frustrated, he would use that time to draw images of women, constantly trying to create what he viewed as the perfect, most angelic face.Tragically, Sousa’s parents did not share in his appreciation for beauty nor did they support their son’s remarkable artistic talents. In fact, they were so disturbed by his behavior and personal interests, that when he was still just a young child, they forced him to undergo hormonal treatments to try to deepen his voice, in order to make him more "masculine".Sousa’s parents did not stop there. Because they perceived his developing sexual orientation as such a threat, when he was just 13 years old, they sent him away from his home in Cuba to live with his grandmother in Venezuela.   After graduating from high school, in his newly adopted country of Venezuela, he studied acting, but quickly realized that he was not cut out to be an actor.He then briefly held jobs as an advertising draftsman and art designer for the two large television networks in Venezuela. Although, these jobs were a dead end for him artistically, fate stepped in while he was working for one of the television networks.It was there that Sousa would meet Lupita Ferrer, who eventually became a famous actress. Pia Wurtzbach, born September 24, 1989, is a Filipina-German model, actress and former beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Universe 2015.Pia was born in Stuttgart, Germany to a German father and Filipino mother. Her middle name "Alonzo" is her mother's maiden name, traditional to the naming practices of the Philippines. She and her family moved to Iligan, Philippines when she was a small child. They later moved to Cagayan de Oro in the country's Northern Mindanao region.At the age of nine, her parents separated. Wurtzbach then became the family’s main breadwinner through modeling and acting. She finished her secondary education at ABS-CBN Distance Learning Center in Quezon City, Metro Manila and studied culinary arts at the Center for Asian Culinary Studies in San Juan, Metro Manila.After being raised in the Philippines, she spent several years in England. She speaks fluent Cebuano, English and Tagalog. At the age of thirteen, Priyanka Chopra moved to the United States to study while living with her aunt. Chopra’s aunt’s family also moved frequently. She attended schools in Newton, Massachusetts, Queens, New York and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. While attending school in Massachusetts, Chopra participated in several theatre productions. She also studied Western classical music, choral singing and Kathak dance.After three years in the United States, Chopra returned to India to finish her senior year of high-school education at the Army Public School in Bareilly. During this period, she entered and won the local "May Queen" beauty pageant.After her win, she was pursued by admirers, leading her family to equip their home with bars for her protection. After Chopra’s win, her mother then entered her in the 2000 Femina Miss India contest.The pageant today selects India’s representatives to the Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Supranational, Miss Grand International, Miss United Continents and Miss Intercontinental pageants. Chopra was first runner-up at the pageant earning her the title of Miss World India 2000.Chopra then went on to compete in the 2000 Miss World pageant. It was the 50th edition of the Miss World pageant and the first since the death of pageant owner Eric Morley. His widow, Julia Morley, had assumed the role as chairwomen of the organization.The pageant had a total of 95 contestants, the highest number of Miss World participants ever at that point in time. Julia Evelyn Morley is a British businesswoman, charity worker and former model. She is the current chairwoman of the Miss World Organization which runs the annual Miss World and biennial Mister World competition.She was born Julia Evelyn Pritchard on October 2, 1939 in London. She was working as a model when she met her husband, Eric Morley. At the time, he was a director of Mecca Dancing, at a dance hall located in Leeds, England. In pageants, the first thing everyone sees before they meet you is your pageant headshot. A headshot gives the judges and audience a glimpse into who you are. Therefore, the message you convey with your headshot is the first thing you convey to everyone. The most important part of having a great headshot is to have a great photographer.No one knows this better than Fadil Berisha. He’s been in the industry for over 35 years and has been instrumental in bringing the glamour and fashion out in the pageant world. Berisha was born in Kosovo to Albanian parents in 1960 and even to this day, both countries remain close to his heart.At age 8, he moved to Italy for a year where he started to develop his passion for beauty and art.According to an interview with Kosovo Diaspora, faces were of great interest to Berisha growing up. He said in the interview: “As a kid, I loved faces, all faces, and I was genuinely curious about them.”One year later, he and his family then migrated to New York City, New York at the age of nine and his upbringing was similar to that of any average immigrant family. Every major decision, he recalls, revolved around personal finances.After graduating from high school, Berisha attended the Fashion Institute of Technology where he studied Men’s Fashion Design and Photography. When he chose to major in men’s fashion design, his family was not particularly thrilled.He was the first person in his family to study art, but the degree did very little to quench his thirst for art. Corrie Hayes is the first representative from Iowa to win the national Miss Teen of America title and at at the age of 17! If you’re not familiar with The Miss Teen of America Scholarship and Recognition Pageant it’s like no other pageant out there. This system prides itself on recognizing the academic and leadership accomplishments of young women across America. The Miss Teen of America Pageant is not a beauty pageant and here to tell us how you can become the next Miss Teen of America and what’s different about the system is Corrie Hayes. Interview Miss Teen of America has six distinct categories of judging.  The area the holds the most weight is interview (25%). What types of questions are asked? Chloe bested more than 30 other competitors at Miss Teen Globe to walk away with the crown.
