Forensic psychologists Professor David Cooke & Dr Caroline Logan on assessments for courts

In this episode, leading consultant clinical forensic psychologists Professor Cooke and Dr Logan speak with Dr Supriya about the importance of the expert witness psychologist (who is being asked to look for personality disorders for the court)  being provided with evidence relevant to the case. They talk about how they triangulate evidence from different people, the importance of speaking with people who know the  suspected personality disordered person, and they discuss what sort of written evidence they need. They also talk about the importance of face-to-face assessments, and how it can be beneficial to see the person in their own home, as well as in other settings. Supriya drills down with them into what a lawyer's letter of instruction to the psychologist should contain, to make sure that the important questions are being answered by the expert. They also discuss the common problem of lawyers refusing to ask the court for specialist psychologist personality assessments, and the reasons for this.  Dr Supriya's new book, the second in the Narcissists in Divorce series, From Leaving to Liberty – The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing But The Truth is available now. An in depth, comprehensive, holistic guide, it exposes the inadequacies of worldwide family justice systems, and shows you how to stay afloat, how to take control of the narrative, and how to protect your mental health. You will also learn how to vet potential lawyers, how to minimize post-separation abuse and how to spot (and sack) a narcissistic lawyer. It includes sections on the practicalities of co-parenting with a narcissist, how to protect your children from the narcissistic parent and effective communication tactics with which to manage your narcissistic ex. This book also deals with harassment, cyberstalking and tech abuse, as well as how to instruct a suitable psychologist for the family court. It guides you through how to expose your ex's financial lies, how to manage their false allegations, and exactly how (and when) to make your own allegations against them. The first book of the series, Narcissists in Divorce: From Love-Locked to Leaving helps you determine whether you are dealing with a true narcissist, and if so, what you need to consider regarding leaving. Dr Elinor Greenberg talks about narcissism - Part 4

In the final episode of this mini series with Dr Elinor Greenburg, Dr Supriya McKenna and Karin Walker ask Elinor whether it is possible to 'cure' a narcissist. Elinor explains how previously therapy would take 5-10 years to have an effect on a minority of narcissists, but how she has recently been working on a new therapy, which has much faster effects. She explains which specific type of narcissist is able to respond to this type of therapy, and the strict boundaries and rules she enforces when working with them.  They discuss the concept of neuroplasticity and how treating narcissist involves breaking old autopilots and creating new ones. No Fault Divorce

In this episode Dr Supriya McKenna asks Karin Walker how she expects the new UK 'no fault divorce' to impact upon divorces where one of the spouses is a narcissist. Karin also clarifies why it is that in the eyes of the law it does not matter what ground is cited as a ground for divorce, as this will not affect the outcome of the financial or child arrangements. They discuss why it is not necessary to cite all narcissistic behaviours in full detail in an 'unreasonable behaviour' divorce petition as this will not affect any outcomes, because the financial proceedings, the child arrangements process and the divorce petition are all completely separate from each other. More resources for you: You can check out our Amazon number one bestseller, 'Divorcing a narcissist - the Lure, the Loss and the Law' here.
