Domestic Violence & Unhealthy Relationships
Domestic violence and getting into an unhealthy relationship is something that is unfortunately, common. Over one in three women, and one in four men, have experienced physical violence, rape or stalking victimization by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Domestic violence refers to physical, sexual, or psychological harm done to an individual by a current or former partner or spouse. There are so many different forms of DV and unhealthy relationships, it is very hard to be able to pin point red flags. Even if you can point them out, taking action in response is a lot easier said than done. Traumatic events associated with DV can lead to stress, fear, and isolation that can develop suicidal thoughts and behaviors. This is why DV is associated with various physical and mental health effects. Victims of DV have an increased risk of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and suicide. Join us on Season 2 Episode 5 to sit down with Joylynn Allard, a Therapist at the nonprofit organization CASA (Citizens Against Spouse Abuse). She will go through what domestic violence is, what unhealthy relationships look like, and how you can seek help to navigate through extremely difficult situations. Friendships and Mental Health
Friendships can be a very crucial aspect in maintaining our mental health. Friends put things in perspective for us, keep us grounded, while also helping us manage the problems that life can throw our way. In turn we develop some of the strongest relationships with people that have supported us through our most trying times. Talking to friends about mental health, or supporting a friend dealing with a mental health problem can be hard to do. So on Mental Mixology's episode, Friendships and Mental Health host Elex is joined by cohosts and best friends, Jessica Coble and Annie Guier to talk about how to have those hard conversations with your friends about mental health. Mental Health & Horse Racing
Horse racing is an extremely competitive sport that you can find all over the globe. A British study done on the mental health aspect of this sport deemed that the week to week workload required by the sport is potentially unsustainable. There is large concern for the extensive over time hours without pay, since it is now being normalized in the sport. This is and many other things are causing a great psychological strain on individuals involved. These findings are detailed around jockeys, trainers, stud and stable staff along with other stakeholders who are apart of this “relentless” industry. 87% of racing personnel interviewed said they were dealing with some type of depression, anxiety, and/or stress. 13% said it led them to substance abuse to help resolve the issues. The point is, there are not enough people talking about mental health within this sport. There is SO much room for improvement and new resources within mental health that can be incorporated into this sport, we just need the right people to hear and understand the magnitude of this issues.Join me in welcoming Julie and Shawn from the YouTube Shows “Horse Center” on Horse Racing Radar TV to get a closer look into this topic and what we can do to create solutions.Check out their show below…https://lnkd.in/gixQ_MptThe link for Talkspace, the fully online therapy platform is... https://www.talkspace.com/#howSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/mental-health-happy-hour/exclusive-content
