Episode 41 : Matt Giordano on feeling better in your yoga practice
In this episode Matt and I chat over how years of using and abusing his body eventually led him to yoga where he explored his curiosity for understanding his unique path to feeling better.
About Matt
Yoga instructor Matt Giordano gives credit to an influential figure from his teenage years – his high school art teacher – for sparking within him the curiosity and tenacity that eventually led him to yoga. It was Eileen Walk who told Giordano, “You are not allowed to say ‘I can’t.’ You must rephrase to a question: ‘How?'”
That inquisitive and unrelenting spirit laid the foundation for Matt to begin a devoted yoga practice. When coupled with his passion to understand the physics and subtle alignment of the body, Matt’s dharma as a teacher came into focus.
Originally from Sea Cliff, Long Island, Giordano spent 7 years developing his teaching style while living in Manhattan, where he taught at local studios (Pure NYC, Equinox). Matt now travels internationally to teach his signature technique-based style of yoga, educating yoga students on how to use their bodies in a profound and life-changing way. Well known for his ability to guide students deeply into postures with his refined attention to detail and precise action cues, Giordano is an adept guide for students of all levels at festivals, workshops, and in his weekly studio classes. His study of biomechanics and integrative mind-body techniques informs his teaching, as he draws upon wisdom from traditions of yoga, martial arts (Aikido and Tae Kwon Do), acrobatics, AcroYoga, and Thai Yoga Massage. Matt is known to inspire humble confidence, allowing students to find ease while expanding the edge of their comfort zones.
In 2016, Matt created and founded an international school of yoga that focuses on community, growth and authentic teaching, and he hosts trainings each year out of his home in northwest Connecticut.

Episode 32 (part 1): Scoliosis, the Spine, and posture with Meredith Weiss
Welcome to part 1 of episode 32 on the “Love at First Science'' Podcast where Meredith Weiss speaks into misconceptions around scoliosis and loading the spine, as well as how you can address movement differences with Scoliosis.
Do you know what scoliosis can teach everyone? Meredith Weiss is a physio that specializes in this vast and intriguing topic. In the podcast Meredith gives us insight into the Schroth method and how it is connected to yoga. Although a huge fan of yoga to support those with spinal imbalances, she also shares things to be mindful of to not exacerbate the challenges this community comes up against. Meredith shares a wealth of knowledge from the foundation of breath and how important it is to stabilize the spine to the importance of the core, nasal breathing and working with the vestibular system. Whilst many like to knock the neutral S-curve alignment, she has found that using it as a foundation has been truly transformational for her clients. Her greatest gift is how she layers awareness about the spine, strategies for stability and the power of breathing.

Episode 29 (part 2): How To Slow The Aging Process with Jenna Leser
Welcome to part 2 of episode 29 on the “Love at First Science'' Podcast where Jenna Leser speaks to slowing the aging process through her research on bone density.
Do you know the importance of bone density for your overall health? Jenna Leser is a Pd.D. student in molecular medicine and she shares her findings related to bone density on the podcast. She explains the various functions the bones serve, how they adapt to the daily challenges and how to improve bone density. She points out what effects exercise and diet have on bone mass, what changes occur when becoming older and what it takes to grow bone mass when aging. She depicts how important gravity and using force within exercises is and details how important the homeostatic set point is. In addition she shares how to preserve bone density, the importance of progressively increasing the strength and load you are putting the body through, and how critical variety is. In sharing her journey and connecting her research to yoga and movement she stresses the importance of increasing bone density in a simple and understanding manner.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Learn More About Jenna Leser:
Originally from New York, I moved to Maryland to attend Johns Hopkins University where I graduated with a Bachelor's in Biology and a minor in Bioethics. My interest in biological sciences and how the body functions led me to become a research technician in neuro-gastroenterology at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institute upon graduation in 2015. In 2017 I enrolled in (and am now wrapping up soon!), a Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine, with a focus on Cellular and Molecular Physiology, at the University of Maryland Baltimore. I train in the Department of Orthopaedics under the mentorship of Dr. Joseph Stains, Ph.D. and my studies investigate the function of osteocytes, cells that reside inside the hard, calcified bone itself. We are continuing to expand our understanding of osteocytes as regulators of bone formation/resorption in response to hormonal, biochemical, and mechanical cues, with a special interest in the context of aging. As a former gymnast, dancer, pole vaulter, and field hockey player - I have had my fair share of exposure to orthopedics as a patient, so finding a research home in this department feels full circle. In an attempt to mitigate the stress of doctoral studies and get back to my roots as an athlete, I began my relationship with yoga. I completed my 200hr RYT in 2019 after 2 years of committed practice and started my yoga teaching journey. It brings me so much joy to weave my passion for physiology into each class I teach.

Learn More About Garrett Neill:
Hello my name is Garrett. I was born, raised, and have lived in beautiful Orange County of Southern California for over 30 years. Since elementary school I’ve known that I’ve wanted to be an educator. Almost every person in my family has worked in education as school teachers and administrators, so you can say that teaching is in my blood. At first I thought I would make a great History teacher, but my path quickly diverged into the realm of anatomy, biomechanics, & neuroscience.
For over the past 5 years I have been overjoyed to share my continuously growing knowledge of the human body. I have always had a passion for helping and inspiring others, which stemmed from my previous jobs as an ocean lifeguard and as a tutor. Today I work to helps others through lectures, personalized tutoring, & as a Doctor of Chiropractic.
A lot of my work and care come from the techniques and systems I have had the honor of studying. I am inspired and utilize Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS Part A & B), Functional Range Conditioning (FRC & FRA), I teach Yoga & Kinstretch, and am a senior writer for the online magazine Shut Up & Yoga.
I strongly believe that everyone has the capability to learn about and master their own anatomy, explore functional and fundamental movements that better both life & athletic performance, and continue to adapt & grow stronger to help manage what ever life throws at them.
I share a lot of free content and lead discussions on my Instagram & Facebook Page. I also post yoga classes on my Youtube.
Part of my mission is to deliver high quality & well informed information in what I post in an effort to help others have access to this easily.
I personally have benefited a lot from what others share and I plan to keep my content free for the foreseeable future.
